Overall, the food is great! My husband and son love the 7-layer cake that is, recently, not on display with the dessert tray. I had to ask if they have it. Apparently, according to the server, they do have it in the kitchen, but is on some kind of "secret menu". You have to ask for it. The service may be spotty. There are times you get a very attentive server who is meticulous and helpful. Other times, you get minimal service. You still get served, but there is a feeling of inadequate attention. Given that service is never outright rude, I'd say this Pappadeux's is worth it. read more

I was unsure how to rate the review. Because we had good and very bad. We came in last Sunday, Dec 30th. Very busy, talked to staff later and they themselves were not prepared for the volume. No problem, got a drink in the bar (which took a while just getting their attention after no acknowledgment) and waited for a seat. About 20ish minute later we were seated right by the bathroom. I mean, I had people brushing against me on their way in and out. My dad wasn't happy and asked to be moved. Obviously that wasn't gonna happen so my mother and I asked to stay seated. At this point you can brush my dad off as being the Impatient Retiree Type. I get that. Problem is, we were completely ignored. I manage a restaurant in the PNW and asked my parents to be patient when a table seated after us, right next to us, was waited upon immediately. I observed the waitress and food runners make their rounds in our section three times touching every table but ours. I knew then we were being ignored and went to get my Dad in the bar (again, was impatient and ordering drinks for us again --this was the first time they had ever used Lyft so they came explicitly for cocktails and dinner)-- and was going to leave. This is where Adrian came in. I do hope I remember the name correctly. We sat in a booth in the bar while my dad finished up ordering drinks --caught him too late to leave. Adrian came over and I asked if it was okay to sit there --my dad relayed what happened on the restaurant floor and he told us he would take care of us. And he did. My dad was appeased immediately, my mother ended up having a good time (she was embarrassed to leave) and I had a great dinner. Through the dinner the manager in the bar also helped us who was also very lovely (he was actually the one who got us drinks in the bar in the first place after we couldn't get the bartender's attentions) --but Adrian saved the day. I'm your easiest customer to wait on since I'm in the business and very patient, and I understand my Dad is that impatient old man sometimes but he's very easy going when happy and that's how Adrian transformed our experience. I wanted a good place to relax after a few long days of work and simply get some drinks. I got to say Pappadeaux did not disappoint and sure made for a great place to conclude my night. I had the "Frenchman Street Spritz" which wasn't to sweet but was just perfect and as I like to say "it hit the spot". They also have live music every night which makes the environment that much more relaxing. I simply laid back and just took it all in as I zipped on my drink. They have the best seafood by far! I had the "Redfih Pontchartrain" with a side of linguine that is a delicious combination. The only complain I would have is that the service was not very good since it was late and no one seemed to have my table. It took a long time for my order to be taken and when I requested bread it took over 10 minuets for them to bring it to me. I'm sure that if you go before 8pm the service should be much better and aside of this issue I totally recommend this place. read more

Best in the Valley. Hands down. I'm really surprised that negative reviewers' main qualms are about the service. Trust me, the service is out of this world. And definitely leagues away than anything else you'll find in the Valley. Food is top of the line, and a surprising notch above any of the other Pappadeauxs I've tried in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. Everything is on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Best picks: fried alligator appetizer, fillet mignon, fried whole snow crabs or lobster salad as an entree, and you gotta have the bread pudding for dessert. read more

Everything has surpassed my expectations. I'm ultra-stingy with the 5-Star Rating, but this spot deserves it. This was almost close to a 5 star but they'll only get 4 from me. The food was mostly great, salmon done well, shrimp was good, but the deep fried stuff was 50/50. The dessert on the other hand was amaze-balls. And I made sure to go thru everything. I had the pudding, the cheesecake and the key lime pie. Loved em all. So here is the deal. You will get a very good meal here. You are going to pay for it though. So if you don't have the money to spend or if you are cheap this is not the place for you to eat. That being said here is the review. We had the a bottle of wine (Moscato) calamari appetizer, the stuffed shrimp, and Parmesan crusted flounder. The meal was excellent. The children had mini corn dogs and Mac and cheese. They were very happy with the food. A word to the wise though, we were charged $2.25 for a soda cause my son wanted it in a big glass instead of a kids cup. All total the meal before tip was $135. This restaurant is one of my favorite places to have dinner. Sea food always tastes fresh and great taste always consistent. The atmosphere is fantastic and the patio reception a great place to relax. I had the Grilled Tilapia and Jumbo Shrimp. The Tilapia hah that great grilled flavor. Not overcooked, causeway dryness, but just right. It has a delicious dirty rice with green beans, small tomatoes with hazel nuts. I can, truthfully, say that my first time eating at Pappadeaux was fantastic!! Our server was wonderful!! She was very attentive and incredibly friendly. I have been going to Pappadeaux for years usually about every two weeks or so and I sit at the bar and enjoy having a few drinks, appetizers, main course and always order the same main course, the Redfish, and the last few times before the last time I was there my redfish plate would come with lemon butter sauce. I like lemon butter sauce but I like the sauce the menu says comes with that dish, the brown butter sauce, even better, so twice I told the bartender to please make sure my dish came with the brown butter sauce and twice it came with the lemon butter sauce. So I did not complain and ate the dish anyway both times. Then the last time I was there, I told the bartender about the past two times being served lemon butter sauce instead of brown butter sauce and she told me she would let the kitchen know. When I got my dish there was no sauce at all on my fish and then I was brought sauce on the side and it was the lemon butter sauce and the fish did not look like redfish at all and was a very small portion like a child's plate. Then a female manager arrived and began arguing with me and being defensive even though I told her my story and told her the lemon butter sauce was not the sauce the dish is supposed to come with and the fish was not redfish that it looked like tilapia but very small portion. She kept telling me the lemon butter sauce was the sauce the dish comes with and that the fish was indeed redfish. I told her I have been ordering that dish forever and I know what sauce it is supposed to come with, it even describes the sauce as a brown butter sauce on the menu, and I also know what redfish fillets look like because I always order it, have fished and caught redfish all my life, and have cleaned and filleted redfish all my life, and the manager kept arguing with me, so I told her I did not want to argue any more and that I did not want the food or any other food. I love pappadeaux food and can only count two times that I have been disappointed in the food and service and this was the second time. Such a shame that customers are charged sky high prices $40 for redfish, and other plates as well, and customers get served shitty plates. Totally Unacceptable! read more

A group from work are in McAllen for a few days and this was our first meal. Good luck to the other restaurants we dine at this week cause Pappadeaux was amazing!!!! I had scallops with grits. I never really like grits but these were creamy, with andouille sausage minced in it and corn. The scallops were perfectly cooked as well. We went yesterday for lunch and we've been here 5 times in the past month. I have to say it was disappointing, all the food came out cool/not hot and everything tasted bland no flavors. Normally I get crab cakes and it tasted stale and cold again no flavor. The sautéed crab claws I got was not as pictured, all the fried food had no flavors fries were not crispy. For the price we pay it's just overall very disappointing, we had everything to go! It'll be awhile for another visit, what a shame. read more

I had Mississippi Opelousas and Oyster on the Half Shell with a Hatden Salad. I would be remissed if I didn't mention the outstanding server I had " Erik" spelling of his name is probably incorrect but his service was impeccable and his overall demeanor was great he didn't hover around but was constantly checking to see if he could get me anything, and his recommendation on sauces for my Oyster was spot on. I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened and love it every time. The food is outstanding from apps to salads to main entrees including seafood and steaks. The drinks from the bar are always great as well. My wife and I usually sit at a table near the bar as it feels like we are more engaged with the restaurant. The service is always great and very attentive. This is my absolute favorite place in the RGV to eat and the quality and service are the reason we keep coming back. I have been to other Pappas restaurants throughout Texas and most are good to great but this one is exceptional. Only one thing I can attribute that to as he is the one thing that hasn't changed in all this time. That would be the general manager. I met him many years ago when he first started working here at this location and have seen him through the years.
