I hadn't eaten here in years and when I did I usually came for their giant breakfast tacos. The inlaws were in town and they asked for the best BBQ in the area so I ordered their value pack #2 with 2 lbs of brisket, 1 lb of sausage, 3 sides, bread, sauce and I added a slab of ribs for a total of about $145. Everything tasted great!!! The brisket was peppery and delicious and the inlaws really liked the ribs. Everything was so good that about 2 weeks later my wife and I ordered the family board with 1/2 lb of brisket, pulled pork, sausage and 4 ribs. We decided to buy turkey dinner along with some sausage and brisket from pappas for Christmas Eve. Went to the south gessner one but they did not want to serve to go orders for Thanksgiving dinner so we left and came to this location after I called in and they said they do to go orders. My parents have been to this location several times in the past for Thanksgiving when we used to live in Alief years ago. Since living in Richmond, there hasn't been a location near us and it's been a few years since we last went to one. Decided to come by and buy some food for Christmas this time. First of all, the customer service was great unlike the south gessner location where the counter person was rude and refused to take to go orders. We were greeted by an employee when we came into this location. We decided to do take out instead of the usual dine in experience - order took around 10-15 min in total - we decided to grab some condiments since it was pretty busy with all the customers in the shop. The place had nice lighting, clean floors/tables and decent amount of space for dine in. Plenty of employees to cook and serve - and like I mentioned having a greeter at the door enhances first impressions. First time having turkey from pappas, as a fan of turkey I enjoyed it. The beans and stuffing were good too. The yams/sweet potatoes were actually really good compared to the ones I had in other places in the past for the holidays. Brisket and sausage were pretty good. Sauce was okay but decided to have my own sauce (sweet baby ray) which made the eating experience better due to it being a bit sweeter and colder. Overall it was a great experience and my household loved it that I can see us coming back again for next holiday season whether that may be jul 4, Thanksgiving or Christmas. This has got to be a new construction building, given its location on the Frontage Road of I-59, but they did a great job of making it look vintage, using 100 year old bricks, vintage railings and wood. So the vibe is relaxed and old school texan in an urban location. Papas is Houston tradition, bur only 2 of the 20+ locations are BBQ -- they are mainly famous for the Pappaduex seafood franchise. This BBQ pkace runs traditional, order at counter pour your own drinks so they dont even ask for a tip. However, more importantly the employees assisting were very nice, quick serving, and generous with consistent portions. The traditional bbq flavor was strongly present. Their brisket slowly smoked over mesquite and hickory is a family favorite. Order by the 1/2, 3/4 or pound. Add bar-b-q sauce and classic sides. Cole slaw. Potato salad. Ranch beans. Sweet yams. A basket of fries. Grab a Texas sized baked potato. Served with chopped brisket, turkey or chicken with butter, cheese, sour cream and chives, it is so delicious. Drizzle some bar-b-q sauce on top for a true taste of Texas. I usually get a special chef salad with sliced turkey and honey mustard dressing. I don't know any other good Texas style BBQ restaurants around me. But since many organizations that I belong to have meetings here, I began to eat here more often. The location is kind of tricky coming from the Southwest Freeway town bound. Because the freeway exit is right before the parking lot entrance, getting here requires lots of navigating. I usually order pulled pork sandwich. I can easily spent less than $10 for a quick meal. While the fixing bar is free, I always cut up those fresh onions and mix in some BBQ sauce to serve as vegetable. Adding more value, I can change my iced tea to be packed into a takeout cup with a refill. I also like the counter service. I don't have to worry about the tips or dealing with the waitstaff. Came on a weekday evening. Not crowded... was able to sit where we wanted. Service is friendly and depending what you order it can be slow. I ordered the beef sausage sandwich (tasty with good snap, the bread was toasted to perfection) with fries (crisp on the outside and soft on the inside) and coleslaw (crisp and creamy). Had my buddy pick me up some food the other day because I was going to meet him for work and wasn't gonna make it in time at 5pm driving from Porter. I've heard people rave about all Papas restaurants. So far I've tried Papas hamburger and it was ok mehh very over priced for a mid bigger. Anyway I asked him to pick up 1/3 pound of moist brisket and half a sausage. He called and told me they only sold the sausage by the pound so I told him ok. When I got the food about 10min later. Was I disappointed is an understatement it was 2 small pieces which was fine but it wasn't even moist. O fat on it. It was tough and dry! The sausage was ok but tasted like it was store bought. My buddy told me ribs were real good but I can't trust him cause he'd eat shoe leather and say it was 5 star. Maybe the experience is better eating there next time I'll try to eat in the restaurant. Pappas is always a classic. They're good for a chain and better than Rudy's. Their brisket is tender, has the right amount of fat, and they give you a decent portion. Their bbq sauce is mild but does the job, I actually don't use much of it. Their jalapeño bread is dry in my opinion but my brother loves it. Health Concerns I have been getting breakfast taco here for many years. If you've never had them you're missing out. Anyway, they've had the same lady working the window in the morning for a very long time. Very sweet woman who always gets the orders correct and keeps the line moving - no issues here. Well. this morning I noticed that she not only takes the orders and handles payment but she appears to also be making the tacos (without gloves) herself and that's a huge problem for me. Taking money, credit cards and tapping in orders on the touchscreen and THEN going back on the line to assemble the tacos without gloves is unsanitary and I cant believe that Pappas is letting this happen. Have we not learned anything from the pandemic?! There is a 10% chance that she only wraps the tacos. I say that because I could not see the entire line from my vehicle. Only the end of it where she wrapped and bagged my order. So, there is a small chance the taco is being made by someone else out of view and then handed off to her to wrap and bag (this I saw her do with my own two eyes) but even that is too much to be done without a glove especially after handling money. This needs to be addressed. Honestly, it kind of turns me off all together because if they're letting this go on in plain view what other kinds of unsanitary happenings are going on that I can't see? read more

New to Houston and I have been to a sister restaurant and thought the service and food would reflect. Unfortunately this was a disaster. I ordered the pulled pork plate with two sides. Beans and yams, those were served first, they were at the bare bottom and received mostly bean water, the yams were ice cold. I didn't eat them in fear of time/temperature control, al little fearful of getting sick. Now to the main entree, pulled pork which was served literally floating in an orange grease. I understand this is a fatty meat but seriously? Ive had this entree numerous times throughout my life and this was absolutely disgusting. I approached the staff and asked if this is the way they serve it and was told yes??? Because it's a fatty meat there will be oil. I showed the plate to the employee where the pork was shiny and floating? She assured me this was how they serve it. Unfortunately that location was closed but was really craving BBQ. 40 minute wait in the drive thru, once I pulled up to the window to ordered I was already being rushed which was frustrating. Had to wait again and went to a drive up parking spot and a worker was confused as to why I was parked there even though the worker told me to go to the parking spot, so the energy was already getting worse. Though it's become rather pricy, the meats and sides are excellent! We visit the one off 59, and it's become our go to place for bbq. Their chicken and brisket plate is wonderful, as is their rib trio. This is also one of the few bbq places that have beef ribs 7 days a week. Sunday 8/13/23 11:20AM Terrible. Our order; beef trio $26.+ pulled pork po-boy $13.00 with fries $3.25, 2 drinks, bottled coke $3.95 and fountain Coke $3.25. We were charged extra for the sides which are included with the beef trio $6.50 + tax. The beef trio had 2.5 thin slices of dry brisket, 3 small slices of dry beef sausage with skin so tough you couldn't bite through it. The beef rib had very little actual meat and what was there was also dry. The side of green beans was overcooked and oily with no flavor. The cucumbers were less than fresh in the cucumber salad. The po-boy bread was good however the pulled pork was dry and too salty. I called the restaurant and the manager did say they would reimburse the over charge. I didn't complain about the food since our connection was poor. I don't recommend this place nor will we ever go back. read more

Amazing chop beef sandwich w/ the potato wedge fries. They could use some season but they where ok. I normally stop here before work if I got time through the drive through.
