This was very good BBQ. The only knock I have is that the meat was not temperature hot. It was barely warm. I know you have to keep BBQ in a hot-well and it takes REALLY long to make if it is done right and this beef was done right :) the side were all very good and the sweet tea some of the best I've had! I had beef ribs with Mac n cheese and ranch beans. My son had brisket, fries and Mac n cheese. It close to where I live and it will be one of our go to places for a quick but good dinner. I'm not sure why this place only has the rating it does. They have some of the best beef ribs I've ever had. The place is always clean, service pretty fast. I'm not sure what else you could ask for. Wait I do have something else. Go through the drive thru for breakfast. No need to thank me, you'll be too busy stuffing your face with a brisket taco that weighs a pound. Pulled pork taco the same. Well, I want to approach this thoughtfully because I love most of the Pappas franchises. If I were rating this against other Pappas franchises I would give it a 1.5. Now the sides were ordinary at best, but you never go for barbeque for the sides, so that being said, let's get to the que: I had the rib combo. Super tender, beautiful cuts for the beef and the baby back ribs. The pork ribs were a little dry on the outside, but tender close to the bone. As a pit master myself I must say I am hard on barbecue. I thought the level of smoke was great and the rub was above average. The barbecue sauce was so bad, we got our dine in order and bagged it all up to take it home and add our own Bone Suckin' BBQ sauce (the best BBQ sauce on the planet). So, if you just want ribs, you will probably be good. Personally, there's an A+ 5 star joint just north of 1960 off of Kuykendahl. read more

I joined a group of friends for a 6:30 dinner date here on a Saturday night. The place is set up like an assembly line or cafeteria, where you queue up and wait your turn to order over the food counter. Portions are very substantial and the prices are quite modest. Service is mostly prompt, although for some reason they dropped down to one counter server when it was my turn to order. I had to shuffle my feet waiting for the disorganized customer ahead of me to stop changing her mind and get it done. There is also a variety of condiments and free sides such as jalapeno peppers to adorn your food. Anyway, I ordered a loaded potato with pulled pork barbecue. I also had potato salad and baked beans to go with my meal. I drank water. The food was ample but pretty average. It was warm but rather tasteless. T He potato salad must have been sitting there for a while. The beans were tasteless compared to those in Memphis. My wife and I went to Papa's barbecue on 1960 close to 45. Unfortunately our order wasn't quite right. We didn't check it till we got home and discovered the error. I called and explain the situation that we weren't happy and the manager their name Rafael was kind enough to replace the order and offer me a free drink he had a great disposition and was very professional. Today, ordered two baked potatoes and 2 salads curbside at 5:30 pm; app said it would be ready in 15 minutes or less. You can see on the receipt they printed out the order at 5:31 and it states 5:45 on the receipt for pickup. I called the restaurant at 6:04 and asked to speak to the manager about the order, inquiring where it might be. He said he would bring it out. The final bill was printed out at 6:08. When he came out he stated that his guy was working alone and didn't see me. As you can see, I was in a red Chevy Silverado right in front of the building. I rode the park and ride today to work. I' stopped at Pappa's barbecue on 1960 and Cali Drive. The drive-through light said they were Open. The first door that I went to was locked. I was Able to get into the restaurant from the side door. When I entered I observed At least seven people working, all of whom looked up at me but did not acknowledge me. Finally a Caucasian older gentleman asked me if I had been helped and I responded no. He came over to tell me that the restaurant was not open that I needed to go to the drive-through. I told him that I was not in a car. He called over a Hispanic female manager and they told me they could not help me if I was not in a car. I walked around to the drive-through and demanded that she take my order. The female manager said no and I told her that because they ignored me initially she was going to take my order or I would call the corporate office. She took my order but she had an attitude! It cost NOTHING to be nice and to provide great customer service. It cost NOTHING to provide great customer service with a smile. The service that I received today was not up to Pappa's standards. I got off the bus specifically to stop here for breakfast because I missed the stop for Chick Fil A. How was I supposed to know that you could not walk in to place an order for breakfast?! Do better! You could learn a thing or two from the Downtown location. I ate there yesterday and received great service with a smile and the food was yummy!
