Let me start out by saying that I truly do like pappas bar-b-q. I usually order it to go, but my family and I decided to eat in the restaurant this time. The restaurant is quite nice, and the staff was very attentive when we first walked in. Per usual the food was ready quickly (except for two things), and it was quite good, if not a little salty (except for the Mac and cheese, which was bland and cold). There was a few things missing from the condiment bar, it it wasn't a huge deal. The biggest issue however, was that the place was utterly disgusting for a while. There were many table that were messy, and the food on them looked like they hadn't been touched in a while. There was even a table that was flipped (not pictured). They tables we're only cleaned when more people started to walk in, and they were cleaned very slowly... Again, I love pappas, but this is unacceptable. We've been to Pappas BBQ (2336 Oleander Drive, Pasadena, TX) several times now, and most of which have been disappointing . Three times now they have been out of major menu items .. twice --no brisket. Today--no baby back ribs. For a BBQ restaurant, that's pretty unacceptable. These are core items people come for. It's frustrating to make the trip and not be able to order what you actually want. They really need to get a better handle on their inventory. read more

Went this evening and ordered the two meat(chopped beef and pulled pork) po boy combos with fries. Service was good. Hardly anyone in the restaurant around 6pm. It is cafeteria style, so the only service you get is when you're going down the line for food. The food was really good, the sides were massive and the staff was friendly. The food was absolutely dry. Not homemade at all. Got up to get pickles and jalapeños by the time I got to sit and enjoy my food it was cold. Mind you it was like 2 mins. I should have seen the red flag when it was empty on holiday. The price is outrageous for 1/3 of the serving size you can get at a REAL bbq place. Don't even get me started on the beef ribs. I got a TRIO! All I got what 3 slices of brisket thinly sliced, sausage, and 1 side of bone! For sides I chose potatoa salad and creamy corn; honestly it might have been from the Walmart Deli! Rude service and super small portions! I specifically asked if the beef ribs had alot of meat on them or was it mostly bone. Girl looked bothered that I asked and said they are really big. Ao I ordered a beef trio plate for $27. They hand me my plate with 3 thin small slices of brisket, 6 thin slices of sausage and a beef rib that's mostly bone. My colleagues talked up BBQ today and we had 3 choices, but after choosing Pappas, there really was only 1 choice. I ordered the Ribs & sausage plate (dirty rice & mac) with a side of potato salad. I also ordered a 1/4 pound of brisket. I wanna say that Pappas was on point. A 9.5/10. Smokiness & flavor of the brisket (I got lean and moist). The center cut ribs were succulent and flavorful. The sausage wad a hint of spice & juicy. The potato salad gave my wife's a run for it's money. The dirty rice was okay, but not like it used to be but the mac was really good and creamy(6/10). Overall I was totally satisfied and Pappas lived up to reputation I've known them for. As to the quality of their food, I heard disappointing rumors that the quality fell off. Not today though! My wife and I were in Pasadena tonight and my wife decided that she wanted to get a half chicken combo meal. About 20 minutes after she started eating it, she got violently ill and asked me to pull over. Upon pulling over, she puked out her guts on the side of the road. I always order extra BBQ sauce and never receive. Instead for 2 meals we always get 1 BBQ sauce for each that are halfway filled. I frequent this place a lot you would think they would be a little more generous with their very expensive. Update: We are done with this place. It's pretty much a guarantee that every online order is walking out the door screwed up in some way. They are constantly forgetting meat for the baked potato's, no bbq sauce, and then running out of sides but not informing you until 15 min after your order was supposed to be picked up. Yea I wait out there for 15 minutes and called twice before they walked out to tell me they didn't have fries. Tell her ok Mac and cheese. 5 min later they are out of mac and cheese so I had to ask ok what do yall have, which was basically the sides no one ever wants. Stay clear of this place. Inconsistent service... Earlier this year, they had a gift card promotion with a reward card. I used the reward card before the expiration date, and the manager also said to let anyone else with a reward card know that he's extending the redemption time for a week in case they can't make it on time. It was a nice gesture. For Labor Day, I bought another gift card with a reward card. I missed the redemption by one day. This time, the manager on duty first said she would try to redeem the reward card but then decided against it. She apologized but wouldn't take the card. So I just went to another Pappa's location and redeemed it there. It was a missed opportunity to show good customer service read more

We have been here several times and each time the food is yummy. I am a creature of habit so I went with the chicken potato. Delicious! I think my family and I have given the Pasadena location many chances but the service and the quality of the food hasn't gotten better. We placed an online order this evening around 8 pm, my Son in law went to pick it up and they rushed him out and forgot one of our meals. And when we called they put my daughter on hold for at least 15 minutes so at this point it was almost 9pm. Then the manager said that they couldn't make the order of turkey topped fries that we had already paid for. So the manager agreed to make the order and when we got it it was barely 6 or 7 burnt bottom of the fry basket fries with less than 1/2 cup of diced turkey. So once again the service or the food wasn't good at all. I don't recommend this location at all. read more

Ordered at drive thru Saturday 6/22 and the girl was very pleasant and explained everything and even offered me jalapeños and onions on the side ! I would have never asked , lol. I ordered the cheese burger which was a double meat all the way and it was very fresh and juicey! Went on Sunday evening, it was busy and there was a bit of wait in the line. The lady in a black shirt w the name Jennifer was multitasking in every station, (believe she was the manager). Everyone was hustling and the drive thru was packed w several cars waiting when we parked. First time to this location, we usually eat at the Woodlands or downtown Houston location that is now permanently closed. Liked the way this one was designed/lay out much better. Down side was no ice cream, but not sure we've been in person since COViD so either they all eliminated the free ice cream or this location just doesn't do it. There were several people cleaning tables, I was surprised that one even pulled out the table to clean it, you rarely see that anymore unless it closing or the table had a lot of high chairs w food all over. Shout out to that guy Also loved that this one had self service drinks! First Pappas BBQ that I've been to where you don't have to go back to the cashier for refills. This place really does not deserve any stars. The first time I cam to this location, the breakfast tacos were pretty good. The next time I can here it was on an early Monday morning. OMG the breakfast tacos tasted like they were made the night before but I don't know how that was possible because they don't offer them on Sundays. Bottom line it just SUCKED!!! How do you offer "Curbside Pick-up" and when a customer calls and you tell the customer; "Oh we don't offer it today because it's raining." Does this restaurant not own any umbrellas or raincoats? This is a huge Pappas just off the beltway and on the service road. This is a stand in line and order place, so the line can take time, but what a selection of food and choices from small meals to meals I'm not sure how people eat. I opted for just a pulled port sandwich and fries which were perfect, while my colleagues all got plates of brisket, pulled pork or other with several vegetables to choose from and a "fixings" bar with add on items and salad. Staff was friendly, handled lunch hour crowd with ease, food was to the standards I expect from Pappas. I'm sure when going by will stop often. Very pleased. read more

We spent just under $70 for 4 loaded potatoes (3 with chopped beef, 1 with sliced beef). I guess the potatoes don't come with butter because there wasn't any on any of them. Only 1 of the potatoes had sour cream. All 4 of the potatoes had a tiny amount of cheese on the tin foil, but only 1 had some cheese in the potato. So a few weeks ago I was outvoted by friends and this vegan went to Pappas Bar-B-Q. I was happily surprised at the fact that they had a pretty good looking salad and a number of sides that had no meat. I got a HUGE salad, the girls behind the counter figured since I wasn't getting any meat that more salad would be better....and they were correct. I also got a side that was pretty tasty. Their French fries were tasty too (thanks daughter who doesn't eat all her food) I had so much salad that I took it home for left overs. I appreciate restaurants that are not vegan providing options for people who are. It wasn't much, but I figure in any city I'm a minority with my eating habits. I was asked to fill out a form for my complaints and recommendations. Form did not even work. If you want more details, we ordered loaded potatoes that were obviously tuff reheated trash, brisket was cold fatty and gross, ribs completely inedible with zero meat on them (just some bones with foul taste) I forget what else we got as its been over a month but it was all horrible. The rub or seasoning is no good, meat quality bad, bbq sauce gross, reheated and cold leftovers is unacceptable. No wonder the place was empty of people.
