I was very disappointed with the food during my recent visit. This place used to be really good, which is why this experience was so surprising. I'm not sure if there are new owners or if something has changed, but the quality has definitely gone downhill. My husband and I ordered the ribs, and they were extremely hard and dry. They didn't taste fresh at all--it honestly seemed like they may have been from the day before. For something that should be tender and flavorful, this was a big letdown. When I brought this to their attention, the staff offered to bring more ribs, but I didn't feel comfortable accepting the same item again given the quality. I would have appreciated a different solution, such as offering an alternative dish or adjusting the bill. We ended up paying $42.54, which feels far too expensive for the quality of food we received. Overall, this experience was very disappointing, especially compared to how good this place used to be. Overall, this is pretty decent BBQ. Definitely good enough to get your fix. But not the best, drop dead, run-over-people-in-the-streets good. Potato salad is a bit loose (not quite runny) with a nice mustard flavor (not overpowering). Coleslaw is very good (mayo dressing, but not too much - just enough to moisten the cabbage without being soupy - doesn't leave a puddle on the plate). The sliced brisket has good flavor, but needs a little more time in the pit for just a bit more tenderness. The ribs are great - perfectly tender (nice bite without falling off the bone) and a slightly sweet rub. Skip the sauce. The meat is good and doesn't need it. The sauce is sweet and smoky and will overpower the meat. Or - be weird like me and mix a little in your potato salad. It's good for that. Maybe get a few pickles, onions, or jalapeños from the condiment bar to eat with your brisket, but don't ruin it with the sauce. Just enjoy good, slightly smoky meat. read more

This is based on one random visit that was really good. I had the pork spare ribs and they were amazing. I will come back for these. The cheesy potatoes and collards were really good too. Stop by for lunch after a doctors appointment and it was delicious. Ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with sauce , onion ,pickles and a side of baked beans with a large unsweetened tea and everything was delicious. The bread was soft and the turkey was amazing. Half of the selection on the menu was unavailable, Sliced Brisket is very bland, not bad per say, just dry and unremarkable. No bark and the smoke ring is very faint and probably fake. Unfortunately, No Name switched owners recently. While the new owners are extremely nice, the quality of food has decreased. One of the best things about no name was their ribs. They would melt off the bond and were so full of flavor. They switched over to a pork rib and it isn't anywhere close to the quality or taste they use to be. I've been wanting to hit this place for years, but never had the chance until fate intervened and gave me an extra 20 minutes in the "Dena." This place looks the right kind of shady, perched on a small asphalt triangle between the municipal court and Hwy 225. There is little doubt w/ 20 story high retention pits and cooling towers in near sight, that you are in the heart of Urban Cowboy country. I had high hopes for "No Name" especially w/ the recent failure of Texas Bar-B-Que still lingering on my palate. Got a three meat plate and a Dr. Pepper for $11 and change. The plate comes w/ beans and your choice of slaw or tater salad, couple slices of bread, and before I could say anything, sauce all over the damn place. It looked promising, but promises went unfulfilled. I took a seat in this very small trailer and began to chow. The brisket had hints of pink, but was trimmed neat of fat and char. This pissed me off a bit, because I specifically asked for brisket from the fatty end. The difference between here and the shit @ Texas BBQ was at least it tasted somewhat smokey and not reminiscent of pot roast. The sausage was well seasoned and properly cooked, but it was the common finely ground and dense sausage I don't really seek out. The ribs were a fuckin catastrophe. Looked like shit. Grey, limp, and falling apart; you couldn't grab any piece of one w/out it falling apart in your hand. But the edges still managed to be chewy and tough. Easily, w/ no close second, the worst ribs I've ever had. My dog ate more of the ribs than I did. The sides were aight. Typical mustard tater salad. The beans were....odd. They started great, but a flavor started to develop that was similar to Totino's pizza sauce. Weird, I know. The sauce was mediocre. If anything, it probably helped the overall flavor w/out being all that good on its own. So where does that leave us? Hungry, and a little bit lighter in the wallet in Pasadena. read more

I will probably go back, simply due to the dearth of non-fast-food options in the "around 225" part of Stankadena. I was on the phone when I walked in, and I remarked to my brother (on the other line) that I instantly liked a place callled "No Name Bar-B-Q" that looked like a hole in the wall. It had great potential. I played it safe and got the chop sandwich and fries w/ a sweet tea. My 1st disappointment was in the price. $6.99 was fine for a medium sized sandwich and fries, but then you had to pay $2 for a drink. If it was 7 bucks for all of it, I'd make it part of the regular lunch rotation. My 2nd disappointment was the sweet-tea. Barely sweet. A sweet-N-Low salvaged it, but they might as well only serve unsweetened and offer the packets. The sandwich, topped with a healthy portion of pretty decent sauce (and my own favorite jalapenos) was solid. Fries were homemade, which was the nicest part of this whole trip. No Name is a very good, no frills BBQ Place in Pasadena. The Bar-B-Que is very good, the sides are good, and the baked potatoes are awesome. The shack that it is in is tiny and looks like a storm picked it up from its usual location and randomly dropped it in its location next to 225. All of this adds up to a pretty good eating experience. As far the Bar-B-Que, the brisket is good, not the best I've ever had, but still really good. The sausage is awesome and it is my favorite. Very quick and efficient lunch spot if you are near the red bluff and hwy 225 area. This place does tend to get a crowd for lunch, but the service is friendly and gets you your order very quickly. I opted for the sliced brisket poboy which is better size than the sandwich in my opinion. Brisket is good here, not overly moist but does have a good smokey flavor. I'd definitely prefer No Name over Grand Prize, which just seems blah to me. Their sauce is very good in my opinion and their bread is like a soft potato bun. We had "No Name" cater a party for us and couldn't be happier. They are very professional and had everything that we needed. The party was the night before Easter, so they brought smoked ham with pineapple slices on top, pork ribs, and smoked turkey. Everybody loved it and we had plenty to feed 60+ people. We also had Mac & cheese, potato salad, and baked beans. The Mac & cheese is amazing. They also brought fresh baked bread from a local bakery. The presentation was very nice and they even made signs to tell our guests what was inside each serving tray. We will definitely use them to cater for us again. We travel over 30 miles just to eat No Name BBQ. We've been customers for probably 30 years and it's my favorite barbecue I've ever eaten. Unfortunately they sold out and the new owners started changing recipes for classics such as the potato salad, now tastes like water, and beans, taste like canned bbq beans. This is unfortunate, these were amazing side items and were essential! So now I fear they will change their barbecue, they're changing everything else. Why though? Why buy a place just to change it? I can't see us going back until they return to the No Name taste we enjoyed for multiple decades... And I fear that's not going to happen. read more

I grew up on No Name Bbq! I loved that place but for whatever reason I had not eaten there In years. I decided to stop in and have a sliced beef sandwich. I recognized the owner and placed my order. My first time there was about 2 weeks about I got the 3 meat dinner, I told the two men working there it was my first time so they gave me to try a little both types of brisket and both types of sausage and I got ribs.
