Pappy's is a well established breakfast cafe with what I would call a dive bar attached. While I have heard rave reviews about the cafe side of things and the breakfast fare, this particular visit and review was in the tavern side. A no thrills, low lit space with your typical cheap seating, pull tabs, and regulars belly up. The bartender was attentive, greatly me as soon as I walked in, immediately asking my drink order. She bantered with the regulars during my entire visit (or was on her phone) but that didn't seem to interrupt her service. I ordered the "Sunrise Burger" which was highlighted on the menu as though it was a specialty. It was just okay. Burger wasn't seasoned but was cooked well. I enjoyed the hash browns on the burger with the charring around the edges adding some crunch. Bacon was cooked perfect as was the egg. Cheese could have been more melty. All and all a pretty standard bar burger. Probably won't be back for a burger anytime soon but definitely want to get back for breakfast. read more

Good food, good service, and good prices for a small time café. We stopped in after we got a coupon in the mail. The chicken alfredo was really tasty, although the garlic toast that came with it was just regular buttered toast. My husband had the ham steak dinner and he enjoyed everything but his roll. He stated it was too hard to even eat, like day old or something. Our server, Jennifer, was trying to run around the entire restaurant by herself, which is great that they're that busy midweek but she seemed a little overwhelmed. We drive by this place all the time and noticed it's always busy so when we had a day we wanted to get breakfast out we stopped by. We were lucky to be seated pretty quickly and our waitress came over immediately to get our drink order. Since it was our first time there we needed a few minutes to look over the menu. Our waitress was very efficient covering the whole area. The food was fast and well cooked. I had an omelette my husband had eggs over easy. The hash browns and toast were both good. People were coming and going the whole time we were there around 8:30 am on a Friday. There are old pictures of the area and people on the walls. Tables were cleaned as people left. A very solid little breakfast spot that is reminiscent of a traditional old-school diner. They had an expansive menu and some of the standouts were the gyros skillet and sausage patties. Both were excellent, and the skillet even a bit unique. The portions are very good for the price, especially on the children's options! To top it all off, service was definitely above average. Decided to take the kids out for breakfast on Saturday morning. The cafe was packed, so we sat in the bar area. Wife and I had a couple bloody mary's, which tasted great. Ordered 3 breakfast meals (the kids split an adult meal) with a total of 7 beverages, 5 bloodies and 2 drinks for the kids, and the meal total was in the sixties, which included 5 bloodies, (on the small side for a bloody.) prices are actually reasonable for what you get. We all left full, and the kids had extra pancakes left over that we took home. Service was great, with the waitress very friendly and responsive, even though she was taking care of the entire bar area herself, with a little help from the bartender. Saw they offered a prime rib dinner on saturdays for 18.99, probably going to go back today for dinner to check it out. The food was actually good for the price. This isn't a flashy sports bar, and the atmosphere is that of a neighborhood hole in the wall bar. Didn't have any issues taking my kids in the bar area for breakfast, not sure what the feel is at night, but it was a great meal for the price. Just getting fast food for 5 costs 60 bucks these days, so finding a homemade breakfast and a some bloodies on a nice saturday morning for 60 is a w in my book. read more

Pappy's was OK - best part was the price for the quantity of food. Breakfast was pretty greasy, the dish I ordered was supposed to have bacon (it did not). Service was very good and friendly and parking was plentiful. It's worth a shot if you're in Andover but don't go out of your way to get there, not to mention it's busy, or at least was on Good Friday when I went. This place is only a few minutes away from home which is dangerous. Hubby and I went here for brunch on labor day. We got seated right away. They were slammed so had to wait about an hour for food. Wait was so worth it. Food was delicious. Our waitress was great, very friendly, kept our coffee coming and checked on us from time to time. All in all we had a great experience. We typically don't go out for breakfast, but I had been wanting to try Pappy's for a while so we got up and headed over. It is a typical 'greasy spoon' type place. They had 2 sides - the cafe and the bar/pub - we sat on the cafe side. I was SO HAPPY to see a greek/gyro scramble on the menu - my favorite!! The only thing that could make it better is the addition of feta cheese. I understand it's a pretty 'niche' cheese, but it really elevates the flavors and is well worth it. I was here on January 8 eating breakfast with my family like I have been many times in the past. We come here probably once a month for a family breakfast. i usually drop anywhere from $80-$100 per trip. After we got done eating breakfast my family decided to run to Best Buy and I decided to stay behind and finish watching the Vikings game. they were going to pick me up after Best Buy. I was on the bar side and The place was only half full, nobody was waiting to get in so no big deal I thought. After about 30 minutes I had one of the waitresses walk up to me and tell me if I don't order something I have to leave. I explain to her I literally just spent $90 on breakfast 30 minutes ago. She said she doesn't care I'm loitering so order some thing or leave. Again I told her Not only did we just finish our breakfast 30 minutes ago but I'm also here every month with my family. She said there's a sign on the door that says no loitering and I am loitering she again told me order or leave. Now the place was less than half full, there was nobody waiting to come in the door I see no issue with me watching a Vikings game after my breakfast. So my family was at Best Buy I am forced out of Pappys because I am loitering after I paid them for my breakfast. I go outside and call my wife and ask her to come get me because Pappys kicked me out. I then Stood out in the cold January weather for 10 minutes before my wife came and got me. I explain to my wife what took place and she was blown away. We've spent a lot of money here over the years, we've brought our family here, I have referred this place to many family and friends as well. I Couldn't believe the disrespect of that waitress. Didn't catch her name but she's an older lady with short gray hair, she's about 5'1 roughly 200+ pounds. and wearing a what looked like a tie-dyed Vikings jersey. She looked angry in general, assuming she doesn't like her job. Anyway, Unbelievably disrespectful. Needless to say I will never step foot in this establishment nor give any kind of referrals to Pappys Ever again. Not to mention the last four times I've been here my food has been over cooked twice. On two consecutive Sat. mornings we waited well over 20 min. for our food to arrive, and that's a conservative estimate. After driving by hundreds of times, I finally stopped in the tried out Pappy's for lunch. The other Yelp reviews are spot-on. This isn't fancy. It's a basic, no frills, unpretentious place. The food was very good and the service was great. The prices were also super reasonable. I stopped in at 2:00. This falls exactly between the usual lunch and dinner rush. By all rights, the joint should have been empty. Much to my surprise, every table and booth was packed! This speaks volumes. Follow the crowds, right? You can definitely tell this is a neighborhood joint. The servers are very friendly with the patrons. A lot of them were greeted by name. It was bustling when we arrived. There aren't any signs that tell you whether you're supposed to wait to be seated or seat yourself. We got seated by a hostess/server. Took our drink orders (regular and decaf) and I said with cream (whipped cream showed up). I got the pancakes that come with eggs and sausage for $4.99 and my partner got pappy's special. Both meals were definitely made well. It is true to their 'homemade' feel. The waitress was incredibly busy and for that reason, service was lacking. She forgot about our drinks then mixed up by topping my decaf with regular and my partner's regular with decaf. She was also a bit short with us when I had some questions for her about the menu. Overall, I would likely return here when I don't want to make my breakfast but want it to taste like I did. I'll just have to ignore the leaves-a-lot-to-be-desired service. read more

I have to share this example of exceptional customer service. First, I should tell you that my parents (and I) are huge fans of Pappy's because their homestyle cooking. However, my parents can't get out and travel without assistance. I called (from my home in FL) to see if Pappy's worked with Uber or DoorDash or any other food delivery service, he said no they did not. I explained that I was trying to send dinner to my parents for my dad's birthday and that they live in a retirement apartment in Anoka. Richard said that he would personally deliver it. I was floored and proceeded to order my dad's favorite dinner of liver and onions and Pot Roast for mom, and he agreed to deliver it along with a slice of double chocolate cake. When I tried to offer some additional tip for his services he refused. Great job Richard and Pappy's staff for making dad's 89th birthday dinner a memorable one. read more
