I used to go to Pappy's a lot when they first opened, which was when I worked at a Non Profit on the Northside. Not much has changed about the place. I forgot about them, so my gf wanting to stop by to get some fried catfish, reignited my memory for when I too crave fried fish or wings. Now they're back on my radar. Ambiance: Similar to many other restaurants in the neighborhood.. deep fried fish and chicken, etc, they also have sandwiches/subs. Located on Washington and Broadway, adjacent to 94W, there is street parking and a lot... that I honestly don't know how to get to, if you're coming from West heading East. I think you can get in easily if you're comign from NE, if you slow up before reaching Washington. There are about 8 tables (booths) to sit at. Service: The girl who took my order was nice. The food came out fairly fast. Food; My wings were jammin and the fries were good. I'll have to go back and try their fish and Italian beef.

I was craving a Chicago style Italian beef sandwich at 9pm on a Sunday evening. The spot closer to where I live was of course closed by this time, so I decided to go on Yelp to see if any other places were still open. Pappy's showed up at the top of the list, and although I had driven past this place many times in the past, I never really knew what they had to offer. I'm glad I got to check this place out because now I have a go-to for those evening cravings. I got the Italian beef sandwich combo (comes with a drink and fries) with the hot peppers on the side and dipped. Was great! We also got the Chicago dog as well, and all of the food split between two of us was the perfect amount to satisfy our hunger. Will come back again soon to try the other items... maybe stop by for breakfast too!

It was literally a bun with a skinny Aldi hot dog full of gardenia peppers and other things.

So I am very aware that this place is Chicago style and I was not expecting to have actual Chicago food. However, the word Chicago should be completely removed from the name period. There are certain things that you can not skimp on when it come to the Chicago dog. Such as the hot dog itself, the pickle spear, the peppers, and if you like fresh tomatoes. Why this was super wrong: The hot dog itself was wrong. It was one of those skinny little hot dogs you get from Aldi :( The tomatoes were mush. Like almost ketchup. which we know is all wrong lol. The pickle had absolutely no "meat" on it. This killed it for me and I will not order from here again.

As a person who was born and raised in Chicago, I can attest that Pappy's is the real thing. I have had their Maxwell Street Polish and it was as if I was back in the Windy City. The Chicago Dogs are also true to form. They even have the Chicago staple of "Pizza Puff". It is hard to try new things because these old standards are just so good. The only downside is the parking. I would suggest you skip the lot, as you may never get back out on Broadway and park on Washington and walk around.

Pappys is the place to go when you want your fill of greasy goodness. Their menu consists of gyros, fried chicken/wings, cheese curds, cheese steaks, and chicago-style dogs. Seriously delicious. My coworker and I came here yesterday after months of driving by here, and I'm awfully glad we did. The interior is very clean, but small. They have a pretty large menu, but we ended up both ordering the #5, which is two Chicago dogs, fries, and a pop for $5.99. The hot dogs were plump and juicy, and I loved their fries. They were obviously right out of the fryer and had some seasoning salt on them, and were made more delicious by the mysterious hot sauce on the table. This made for a very quick and tasty lunch spot...they had something called a gyro burger that I made a note to try next time, as well as these cheese wedges that the guy at the counter said were wedges of fried mac n' cheese. What a treat. Note: When we went, they had a board outside announcing a special that said 'Any omelet w/ hash browns $2.99.' They have gyro omelet that sounds really tasty, so I definitely want to hit that during breakfast. Actually, I peeked at their breakfast menu and the whole thing sounds like an excellent value. They also have other specials that seem to rotate, so I think it just depends on the day.

Char broiled burger 2.99. Can't beat that (:

Luckily, there were only two people ahead of us, and we waited about 6-10 minutes. If you visit during peak hours, I'd definitely expect a longer wait. The menu is refreshingly simple Jucy Lucys, chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, fries, and not much else. I ordered the original Jucy Lucy with pickles and onions, and we shared a basket of fries. It was a true no frills experience, and I can appreciate the significance of keeping things simple. Matt's embraces that hometown diner feel: burgers wrapped in paper instead of plates, drinks served cold & bottled instead of over ice, cash only (there's an ATM inside with a $2 fee), and a nostalgic atmosphere that feels uniquely Minnesota. The staff deserves recognition. Our waitress was friendly and patient, and it was clear everyone, from the bartender to the cook, was working incredibly hard to keep things moving. Their teamwork definitely didn't go unnoticed. As for the burger, I personally didn't think it was the best Jucy Lucy I've had, but taste is subjective, and I completely understand why it's considered a Minnesota staple. More than anything, I'm glad I finally crossed Matt's off my Minnesota foodie bucket list. As a proud Minnesotan, it's one of those iconic spots that's worth experiencing at least once.

It would've made the experience a lot more fun, especially for everyone who came to watch the match. The highlight of our visit was definitely our server, Hailey. She was so friendly, personable, and attentive from start to finish. She consistently checked in on us and really made us feel welcome. We started with the cheese curds and the guacamole, and both were really good. I also ordered the frosé, which was refreshing, although the lemon flavor with the lemon slice was a little overpowering for my taste. For my entrée, I had a 60/40 burger that was cooked perfectly with the bacon and was full of flavor. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience thanks to the great food and even better service. I'd definitely come back, especially if Hailey is our server again!

Paired it with their crispy tower onion rings and truffle aioli. We went on a Tuesday night which was half off a bottle so that was a win. Our server highly recommended the creme brulee and as a creme brulee snob it was one of the best I've had. Being downtown the restaurant was packed but the service stayed consistent. This makes the burger really chewy and you really can't taste the beef anymore like you used to when it was thicker. I would take this as it's not as good as it used to be. It is not as good as the original hype from the beginning. In conclusion, I do not think it's worth the $19. I rather get a cheesesteak for $16 at Tono's which comes with fresh not burnt fries rather than come back here and get a burger here. It's highly unlikely I will be back here. I honestly feel like the burgers have gone way WAY downhill. The fries here have gotten terrible so I stopped getting the fries a long time ago. They are not soft crisp like they used to be. They are too golden brown color, almost like burnt hard fries. I never like to eat down here. I normally would order the Parlour burger upstairs. The basement part which is Parlour has a weird smell like a locker room smell so that's why I don't like to eat down here.

PARKING: always hard in Linden Hill. Street parking in neighborhood nearby is the best. Plan for a 5 min walk. AMBIANCE: far better than a typical counter service restaurant but not quite a dine in restaurant feel. You get west coast mid century modern that feels cozy and hip. The band played from 3-5 which I admit I originally thought was weird. But quickly realized why. This place was created for three reasons: good food, vibes, and family fun. You look around the room and EVERYONE is having a great time.
