So I have been here several times and can say with certainty it's not a great place. The food is ok but not great. Serving size is ok but not great. Service is spotty at best. Yesterday as a party of 4 we ordered 2 cinnamon rolls, split breakfast and a burger. Took over an HOUR to get our food!!!! AND while waiting my friends coffee cup handle broke off spilling coffee all down the front of him. Luckily it was cold from waiting so long. After this happened it took 5 minutes and waving our hands to get noticed by the staff. Then just set a fresh cup down after a snarky comment "this handle is good" not much of an apology. After all the waiting and coffee incident we first get our cinnamon rolls at 45 minutes in. Which were ok, no frosting just powered sugar & butter. They were soft & fresh. Then comes the split order at 55 minutes in. They were happy with their food (and super hungry at this point). I waited another 10 minutes for my food. When it came it looked good & hot. The wolf burger was ok, nice slice of ham and egg with a little cheese, big slice of tomato and not much else. Tasted decent but not great. Then I went for the curly fries which I was pretty excited about. Boy what a let down, they were greasy and soggy. I could not eat them. So after all that you'd figure a comp right?? NOPE!! Not one thing!!! Just flopped the check down and moved on. No apologies, nothing!!! WTF??!!!!! Luckily my friend insisted on paying or I would have caused a scene. As much as I love the atmosphere of Pappy's Greasy Spoon, our experience was only A-OK. The checkerboard floor, bar counter seating, and all the Coke decor is cool, and the place has a great vibe and good service; but the food was not on par with several other restaurants serving the same genre of food (within a 20 minute driving radius). I ordered the Bob's Best breakfast, and I really enjoyed the thick cut ham, the well-cooked fried eggs, and the fluffy biscuit; but found the breakfast potatoes to have excessive char on them -- so much so that I didn't enjoy them. My wife enjoyed her biscuits and gravy, but my daughter's pancake was very dense and tough -- not fluffy at all. Better pancakes can easily be made with a bag of Krusteaz. My son liked his burger alright, but said the fries had a strange texture to them -- again, not fluffy on the inside, but very dense. The ham and eggs hit the spot after my 8 mile run this morning, and the decor was cool; but I think next time I would choose to go elsewhere. read more

We came for an early morning breakfast and main room was close to full by 8:45am on a Saturday. Food rundown: - Full Order of Biscuits and Gravy: Four large half biscuits smothered with gravy, large enough to cover the entire plate. The biscuits were wonderful and super fresh, by far my favorite part of our meal. The gravy was super smooth and creamy and has a little bit of sourness to it that we weren't expecting. Very filling. - Corned Beef Hash: Two slices of buttered toast on top of two eggs and a bit of corned beef mixed with potatoes, onions, peppers mixed. I really wanted to like this place. I mean, come on, a greasy spoon? What's not to like about a greasy spoon? Some days, that's exactly what you want: greasy, home-cooked, down-to-earth food. So that's where we headed - five of us who've driven by this place many times but have never been inside. I don't know about the other four of us, but this one of us will not be going back. First of all, the service was horrid: haphazard, mish-mashed, servers interrupting other servers, trying to get answers to questions about the menu, you name it. Then once we finally got our order taken and the food began to arrive, it came at different times for each one of us. The biscuits and gravy came out first, then came a sandwich, then came the kids' food, and last and definitely least, came my fish and chips. As you can see from my photo, the plate has grease splattered all over it, no doubt from the whimpy, wilty, not-even-hot french fries and from the tiniest two little pieces of over-fried fish that I've ever seen on a plate. Yes, it's a greasy spoon, but I truthfully don't think I was expecting real grease to be splattered all over my plate. Even so, that wouldn't have been so bad if the french fries had been anything other than what they were and if there had been more than 3 bites of fish. A tiny cup of cole slaw completed my lunch plate, along with another tiny cup of tartar sauce, although I suppose any more than that little bit of tartar sauce would have been irrelevant since there were only two very small pieces of fish (from the photo I took, it's difficult to tell exactly how big these pieces of fish are, but trust me when I say they are each roughly the same size as my thumb). The cole slaw and tartar sauce were served in what's called a paper souffle cup and are probably the 4-ounce size; each cup was about half full, making it about 2 ounces each of slaw and sauce, or the equivalent of 1/4 cup. We walk in the waiter a young girl doesn't even acknowledge that we're standing there so I just assumed that you just take a seat so we did. She already has an attitude on her face when she comes over to the table and asked what to you want to drink we tell her... she doesn't come back for 15 min. She comes over we order our food and she steps away . 25 min out order is up she brings us our food doesn't say a word and slides it across the table.. at that point I knew there was a issue.. my friends child ordered a chocolate shake the waiter young girl the niece of the owner forgets about the shake. Oh well right she will come around again and ask how we're doing if we need more water. NO 35 min went by without her even acknowledging that we're sitting at the table by that time, I was just waiting to see how long it would take for her to acknowledge us ask us if we need to go boxes etc. nothing I had to walk up to the counter and pay and tell her I'm still waiting on the shake and to just make it to go... she said "fuck" I'm sorry... and took 10 min to make a shake while texting on her phone while making the shake!! Then I walk to the table and ask for a to go box and she doesn't even look at me from across the room and says "there right there" at that point I was highly upset we did nothing but want to try a mom and pop shop but I would highly recommend never coming to the place ever again. You have this young girl running the front that is a reputation of your restaurant the people up front show the customers what the restaurant is all about. Yelp led us to here for breakfast. Upon approach of the building it looks closed. Good thing they have have 5 signs out front flipped to OPEN. Once you enter you see they LOVE Cola cola products. It's decorated in traditional diner fashion where there are chotchkies and Knick knacks all over the place. For the food its cheap dinner foods. My boyfriend had a special which was biscuits and gravy with a choice of two sausage, two bacon, or two eggs. He opted for the two sausage. I ordered the pork chop with hash browns and gave my two eggs to by boyfriend. The biscuits and gravy portion was HUGE! He got biscuits, and I ended up stealing some of his gravy because my pork chop was well over cooked and I didn't want to send it back. The food is basic at best but the service is spot on! I can see why people come back since the food is priced fairly and the service is spot on. I just wish the food had another level to it. Let me begin by saying this restaurant was definitely one-of-a-kind. There atmosphere and Decour that they provide is one to remember it's almost like you walking back in time when you enter this restaurant. The customer service is not of one you would remember, they treat you as if you were just at their house eating their food which is awesome saying that there's no other way that I would like to be treated. Their menu had a wide variety of different types of food one that would suffice for anybody's appetite. We specifically went there for breakfast and expecting not much how over they had a good selection for breakfast one of my favorite things that I enjoyed was they had this very large order for reckless or $25 that we were able to split between three people it was fantastic food great service something that I would definitely recommend to anybody in the area or if your willing to make the drive! read more

Canby's best kept secret! Hands down the best breakfast we've had in a long time. The food is just like grandma use to make on a Saturday morning. Corned Beef used for hash and the Reuben made in-house as well as the delicious sausage patties. The wait staff is super friendly with just the right amount of sass. If your unsure what you want to eat they're willing to make you a half and half. My husband had 1/2 eggs benedict with 1/2 chicken fried steak with the eggs, toast and home fried potatoes. Their pancakes truly are the size of the plate including the Mickey Mouse one I ordered for our 2 yr old. But they're the BEST pancakes you'll ever eat. We only ate here for breakfast but based on previous reviews we will definitely be back for lunch in the very near future. Some things to consider before you go.... It's not fast food it's good food. We went to Pappy's on our trek for greater Portlands best diner a few weeks ago. It looked very promising, especially with the diner atmosphere inside, which is so strange considering where it is actually located. We seated ourself after standing there awkwardly for a few minutes and having waitresses run around us. Then it took another 10 minutes to have anyone bring us drinks. I never got a refill for my coke the entire time, and they kept forgetting the coffee refills too. The food was decent, albeit a little pricey. It was like 5 bucks for the homemade sausage which I was very excited to try. I was disappointed though - was not as flavorful as I thought it would be and was a little burnt. I got the philly cheese steak and it was pretty good, but my main complaint would be that they really need to cut the steak thinner. I dont want to have to rip off half a t-bone every time I take a bite. Great flavor though. Husband and friends pancakes and french toast were eaten with delight. My 1st trip to Pappy's since moving to Canby, since Covid has finally subsided. Had wanted to try it for a classic breakfast and was not disappointed. Had a late morning breakfast with a friend. I had Railey's Breakfast with eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns, and a biscuit. The eggs were perfect, the bacon was wonderful, the biscuit was good, the hash browns were well... next time I'll get the home fries. My friend had the Eggs Benedict. He was very pleased, a good English muffin, nicely poached eggs, a delicious thick piece of ham, and smooth rich hollandaise sauce, and those good home fires. They were busy but service was fast and friendly. A couple notes: 1) I like strong coffee and this wasn't strong, but it's typical of this type of place. 2) As of January 2023 they are adding a surcharge of $2/egg. Egg prices have gone through the roof due to Bird Flu. They hope to drop the surcharge when egg prices drop. Well, I first came here w my moms husband. He lives the place. Upon entering, you feel taken back in time to an old diner. The place gets 3 stars for the people. Super nice and accommodating. But the food is pretty average. I know it is only breakfast, but zero flare or special flavor to food. It is simply a decent breakfast joint. Solid breakfast, total retro atmosphere! The front door was a bit of a challenge to find, but once inside it was like a trip back into the 50's. I had the LaMont's Breakfast, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage links, fried red potatoes and sourdough toast. The bacon was cooked nicely. The sausages were a surprise. Typically you encounter those sausage links that are hard and small....they often resemble something you would find in a cat box. You know what I am talking about here. The sausages here at Pappy's were large and juicy. I really liked them! The casing snapped when you stabbed it with your fork and juices were flowing forth! A nice surprise from the typical sausage links you encounter. Potatoes were good, maybe needed a bit more seasoning. I added salt and pepper as well as a a few shots of Chipotle Tabasco sauce. Fried nice and crispy on the edges, soft potato on the inside of the crisp outer crust. My other half had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. When his plate arrived all I could see was the toast on the outer edges of the plate, and a vast lake of country gravy! The gravy was tasty, but not the best I have ever had. The nice surprise was that the chicken fried steak was super crispy under its gravy blanket. Cooked perfectly and not soggy. The owner and staff are very friendly and it makes you feel like you are at a family members house. They are hidden away in the Holly Mall but worth the trip. The name says it all. This is not a place for the calorie conscious. Very retro diner style. They stay true to their name in both atmosphere and cuisine. The Chicken Fried Steak had great breading and flavor, though it was somewhat tough. The gravy was not my favorite, though that may just be my taste. They do not serve hash browns, but they do serve roasted potatoes, I only wish they hadn't come coated in gravy. They serve good pancakes and great coffee. While the service is a bit "fly by the seat of your pants" the staff is very friendly.
