Stopped by here to grab dinner with a group of 3, made reservations at 6:30, and when we got in, it was already a bit packed. The ambiance felt pretty nice, it gave off that traditional home vibe that felt like the family and extended family have come over, and everyone enjoyed great food and drinks, which I found nice. We started with a large IPA, and wooahh was it huge. It definitely worked out for my partner and me, so we shared the large IPA. Also started off with the gourmet sausage w. Saurkraut, pickles, and local bread, and went with Polish Kielbasa, which was delicious! I enjoyed the flavors of the Polish sausage, and the sauerkraut tasted refreshing, combined with the pickles and soft bread. We also ended up getting Szeged Goulash, ohhhhh my, that was delicioussssss!!! The cream soaked into the Gnocchi so well, and I could've drank a glass of that by itself! The pork goulash was delicious and extremely tender. When I bit into all 3, wow, my mouth was in flavor heaven. I'll definitely be coming back here again. This evening we decided to take a stroll down 24th and found this gem. We had two glasses of cab and the Paprika Appetizer (prosciutto, salami, cheese, olives, pickles and bread). We also received an extra basket of bread free of charge. Perfect way to unwind after a long day at work. We sat outside and the evening air was cool, but not cold; it was perfect. I was worried about the smells and high traffic from 24th and mission being in such close proximity, but it was very quiet where we sat. The establishment was very clean and the service was friendly and attentive. Would recommend! Next time I think we will try dinner! read more

Really great restaurant - it's a bit hidden and small, but provides a wonderful and intimate vide. Food is fantastic and for sure try the Czechvar (Budvar) beer - it is similar to Pilsner Urquell, only better! And it is on tap from the Czech Republic. Yum! My fav is drinking in the 32oz boot. Fun and feels like you're in a German beer hall (but of course Czech). Service was great and speedy, but not rushed. Soups are fantastic, and if in the mood, have a desert. So tasty. We started out with the soup of the day which was split pea excellent 8/10 . So before I wrap up this year with the coming of the yearly holiday season, I wanted to show you the food selections I couldn't wait to try. Paprika in Mission District has never disappointed me with its vegan options. So I chose what's good for my dinner night. My best appetizer was the vegan German sausage platter. Aside from sauerkraut, mini pickles, and a piece of bread, the beyond sausage was as solid as it looks when I sank my teeth for a bite. Its flavor profile was less than the real meat sausage, but very neat and clean. My main course was the Hungarian veggie goulash with gnocchi. I first flipped all the gnocchi pieces upside down to soak up the warm tomato soup for the better tasting experience. Veggies aside, the herbs and spices of the tomato soup made Chef Boy-R-D less worthy. Keep in mind, this goulash is an excellent choice for when the weather starts to get even colder. For dessert, dark chocolate shortcake with whipped cream on the side. For almost everyday, I couldn't stop having dark chocolate since it's rich in flavonoids. Less craving for the shortcake, but more guilt for the whipped cream. A perfect balance of sweet and bitter. Paprika was one of a kind, but it still needs more customers. I am Hungarian, so probably overly critical of Hungarian food (sorry, not sorry). Yet Paprika was really really good: we had the Paprika Sampler as an appetizer. Then the Szeged Gulyas and the 2 Sausage Dinner Plate. Everything was yummy, service was attentive, ambiance was chill/romantic-y. This place is such a gem! The waiter was super friendly and the food was comforting and delicious! I've been here a couple times and love trying the different beers and sausages, they're amazing and all very different. If you want a bit of a heartier meal, the goulash is amazing! The gnocchi was nice and chewy and goes perfectly with the creamy sauce. Even the bread they serve it with was warm and perfect to sop up everything on the plate. We made reservations on OpenTable w/ Eastern European food in mind. Paprika has been around for 11 years and received Yelp/Michelin Recommended accolades and we wanted to see for ourselves what we were in for. 24th has been feeling kinda rough these days and searching for street parking proved more difficult, but we arrived on time for our reservation, got some sf tap water, ordered and awaiting for our meal. Paprika is most-def a dive and more a tavern that serves a limited menu, some sausages and Goulash, dessert... loved that it had veggie options for sure! Maybe 2 ppl cooking in the kitchen and 2 servers out in front - so possibly why service was spotty and our meals came 45-50mins after ordering. Since we didn't order beer or wine, we sipped a lot on tap water and waited and waited...but I will say mine was worth the wait. I ordered the veggie goulash which was so flavorful and scrumptious. It came w/ al dente gnocchi, also ordered the vegan sausage as an appetizer... that was just ok, nothing to write home about. My dinner companions ordered sausage and said it was good as well, standard star... Was it homemade? prob pre-ordered at another butcher place, but decent. The two tall men serving were very chill and kind, and managed to refill our water glasses about 10xs. All & all a good visit, but I'm sure it would've been great had we had a some of their beer on tape, but non of us drank. Finally had a chance to enjoy this little spot in the Mission with my wife the other day. I had put it on my radar for sometime as I had experienced Goulash in Budapest some years ago when I traveled Europe. To the uninitiated, goulash is a delicious beef, or pork stew with a rich paprika seasoned broth. Perfect type of dish for a cold day (which there are many in Budapest!). When you walk in you get a really humble vibe. There aren't a lot of tables, but the aesthetic is one of a nice little cafe, less a fine dining restaurant. The gentlemen behind the tiny bar sat us and we looked over the menu. Fairly straight-forward and simple menu, the star of the show is the goulash, and they do a potato Gnocchi with it. We were extra hungry so we ordered a paprika platter to get our appetite going with a bottle of what turned out to be really delicious Georgian red wine. The platter was gorgeous, nothing over the top, but everything was good, especially the side of mustard. I loved the sprinkle of (was that paprika?) over the cheese, it actually added a unique flavor I enjoyed and fully intend to copy at home. We both had the Szeged Goulash (Pork) for main courses and when they came out, oh man did they smell good. The meat was melt-in-your mouth tender, and the gravy/broth was absolutely delicious. Many times he brought us out some delicious bread and I definitely used that to full effect in sopping up the sauce. As we were leaving they began to set up some live music, I'm truly disappointed we missed it as had I known we might of came later to check it out. The bill came out to be a little over $100, which for 2 people, with a full appetizer platter and bottle of red wine, that is about as good as it gets. Extreme value here people, easy 5 stars. TL;DR, while the menu is a little on the small size, you don't need a lot of choices if what you make is right and made with love. Such a little gem of a place, we stumbled on it because it's one of the few places open midday before peak dinner and after lunch, I have a soft spot for restaurants that serve on offbeat hours. An unobtrusive place right smack in the mission, surrounded by taquerias and the like. We started with their Swiss Bockwurst, which came with sauerkraut, cornichons mustard and fresh baked warm baguette--oh man oh man, that sausage is everything you'd want in stuffed meat, and then some! Wow wow-it's crispy on the outside and yielding inside, with a hearty mildly spiced flavor; my husband and I shared it but I could've easily eaten the entire thing. I adore sauerkraut, and this was up there ranking high of all the versions I've had, and the perfect tangy complement to the rich meat. We got their chicken paprikash (though all of their other menu stuff looked incredible). It's an absolute marvel of dish--beautifully balanced in spices with a creamy sauce and chinks of sautéed chicken, the sauce tasting as if simmered for hours and hours, epic taste. Loved it so much, we polished off the entire plate which also came with mashed potatoes, so damn good--it's comfort in a plate. The prices are more than reasonable, especially for their grand portions and quality of cooking. The service was fantastic, prompt and friendly. I'm not sure how loud this gets at a peak time, but when we went in the middle of the day, it was hushed and exactly my kinda thing. Paprika was a fun experience. Other than my homemade chicken paprikash, I haven't really had Hungarian food. The environment felt like a restaurant in Europe. And with a lot of different languages spoken around me, it could have easily been Central Europe. I did enjoy the food and the meat was very high quality, but the dishes were simple comfort food.
