as far as food courts go, UH Manoa students have it good. when I attend training or workshops here, I usually eat here once or twice a week. Dunkin Donuts and Holoholo Grill alone make this place pretty sweet for foodies. DUNKIN DONUTS Dunkin Donuts craze is still pretty real in Hawaii. Love their coffee. I hate how confusing Starbucks menu is anyway. their roasted hash browns are pretty legit. UH Manoa students (and guests) get to stand in a much shorter line for the same great drinks and donuts. lucky HOLOHOLO GRILL Holoholo Grill makes me always spend more than I want. lol. it's not that their prices are too high for what you're getting. I just walk in with the intention of trying to save money and being budget conscious. then Holoholo Grill puts out a spicy ahi bento and I just lose my shit. goddammit take my money!!!! $9 ain't bad to be honest. taniokas charges the same I think and it's every bit as good in my mind. but I can see those poor students getting fat and poor from eating these sexy delicious food. how's anybody supposed to resist. I had their poached salmon sandwich with a balsamic vinegar sauce too I think. it was pretty awesome. salmon was nice, moist and flaky. again take my money!!! INDIA CAFE I just had some sort of spinach chicken (apparently their special of the day) mini plate from India cafe. sort of reminded me squid luau. picture is not appealing but flavors are there for the most part. I got their curry cauliflower as my side. curry flavor could have been stronger but meh... not complaining too much. cauliflower is usually boring. I do like the saffron rice though. that's always a nice change from regular white / brown rice from regular plate lunches their mini portions was generous. could easily pass as a regular plate. for those trying to get best value, this might be the way to go. L&L, DOMINO'S, PANDA EXPRESS still got those three places. What an unlikely review. Haven't been to this eating location on campus for many a year. It has been re-purposed more into a food court type of option when on this side of campus. Back in the day, we would go here if we went to a meeting at east/west center. As things open up, this will be a welcome option when running around campus. There's a Dunkin Donuts here- wish it were Donut King or another local business. If you are at Hamilton Library, there is no better option if you don't want to walk. Right outside the entrance to the library. So if you find yourself on campus and are looking for a place for grinds,, check it out- you may be surprised. read more

Wow. Paradise Palms is under new management and you can definitely tell. Honestly, the old Paradise Palms kind of sucked! They always had the same food, which wasn't really good. The "new" Paradise Palms now has Super Gyros, The Curb (once a coffee lunch wagon), Domino's Pizza Express, L&L (more of an express style L&L with limited menu), Honolulu Gourmet, India Cafe, and Panda Express! Honolulu Gourmet has a frozen yogurt bar. ;) I'm really happy for the new lineup. When Paradise Palms was closed, it was such a hassle for me to get food because Campus Center is farther away AND so busy all the time. It's about time that this place had a makeover. Hopefully time will tell if the new management is doing a good job, but I'm definitely excited for the change since my workplace is nearby. Suggestions for improvement: one of the vendors needs to start selling Pepsi Max bottles (or cans--whatever). Wish they accepted the meal plan/points as well. read more

The newly renovated Paradise Palms is awesome. What an improvement to UH's culinary scene (if you can call it that). So far I've tried the chicken pasta salad and fro-yo from Honolulu Gourmet Company. Both were excellent. It's nice to see UH step it up a notch as far as the dining options go. Since I've recently veered completely away from soda, the curb has really quenched my thirst with their variety of tea selection. I used to always stick to what I knew (iced peach green tea) but one of the baristas recently introduced me to the passion pineapple and I am so happy that she did. It was just the right amount of pineapple juice and you even have the option of having black or green tea. Today I decided to try the black and it was just absolutely splendid. On top of that, the large was only $3.66 with tax! WHAT A DEAL! I gave this cute little cafe a 5 out of 5 because they have overall friendly customer service, delicious and thirst quenching drinks, and the best part is that is so cheap! read more

My rating will still stay the same because I rarely go there these days. It's been six years since my last review and almost all of the vendors have been replaced with the exception of popular eateries like Panda Express and L&L. Here is what Paradise Palms offers now and what I think of the changes. Dunkin Donuts I've been here a couple of times and enjoyed their cheaper coffee and snack options. Sometimes I would buy half a dozen donuts just for my family for the weekend. One thing that is a bit disappointing is how he school's food services website mentioned lunch sandwiches but all I saw was breakfast served all day. Boo. I want a chicken salad sandwich, but the closest location is at the airport. -_-. Holoholo Grill I have yet to try anything from here but they take up the most space in the building. They have a ramen bar along with something else which I'm not sure what it is. Lasoon ?????? I can't remember the exact name for this but supposedly they are a new vendor for Indian curry. I have been there a few times and enjoyed this place more than the previous vendor. The chicken is boneless which means I don't have to deal with cooked chicken veins or getting my hands messy. For $10.68 ( that's for a can soda and a chicken curry plate + tax) they give a lot of food. Le Crepe Cafe (2nd location. The original location at the law school is still there.) In my honest opinion, this replacement has been long overdue because Domino's wasn't doing too good throughout my undergraduate studies. They've been struggling so much and I wonder how they stayed in business for so long with barely anyone buying their products. When I was in Law School my wife and I would have breakfast here. It was okay. recently we went to a wedding reception here (I know! A wedding reception in Paradise Palms?!?!) and the food was actually pretty good. It wasn't catered out, paradise palms did the food, too! They had the usual wedding reception food, but also had items like grilled steak, baked salmon, beef brisket, korean chicken. Surprisingly good for paradise cafe. So, for breakfast, nothing special, in fact, go to the student building, it's cheaper. Paradise Palms is one of the few cafeteria-like eateries on campus. This is my favorite spot on campus to chill and grab a bite between classes. Paradise Palms does breakfast, pastries, lunch, Chinese, Local, and a lot more. Plus, toast your own bagels! They even have a pseudo-cafe that serves up various types of specialty coffees and blended beverages. I appreciate the fact that I can get my coffee relatively fast without having to wait in the ridiculous We-Proudly-Serve-Starbucks line at Campus Center. Unbelievable! How long have I been going to school at UH Manoa and never knew about this place?!?! Partly because I don't have any classes anywhere near this area to have even known about Paradise Palms. A place that houses at least 5-6 different restauarants all under one roof! Famous L&L Barbecue, Panda Express, a couple Cafes as well as an Indian Restaurant famous for their Curry. Also, a microwave flushed against one of the walls for your convenience to heat your own food brought from home. When I first transferred to UH 3 years ago, I quickly took a liking to this place because I felt the food was 10x better than anything else being sold on campus. And although I continued to feel that way as time went on, I slowly got tired of eating here because it was always so crowded and the service (lack for a better word) pretty much sucked. Since the renovation however, I am pleasantly surprised. At the same time though, I still think they could have done a little more cleaning up (& I'm talking about getting rid of the old registers that were in the middle) instead of just covering it with green tarp. The food options have greatly improved. When I found out that they were re-opening Paradise Palms this Fall semester, I was most excited to hear that The Curb was given a permanent contract, especially considering I (as well as a few other students) urged dining services via email(s) to keep their truck on campus as a vendor. Little did we know they were going to let them go brick & mortar. In addition to The Curb...There is also L&L Hawaiian BBQ, India Cafe & Super Gyros (yes, they moved from their previous location in front of Webster Hall), Panda Express, Dominos Pizza, & Honolulu Gourmet Foods. All of which are great by the way. Other than The Curb, the other vendor I especially like here is Honolulu Gourmet. They have a ton of healthy organic options! I really like their focaccia sandwiches, they're good to grab & go. They also have some really good salads & not to mention, FROZEN YOGURT! Who doesn't love frozen yogurt? Especially after a long, hot day of classes. The only downfall is (& I know pretty much every college student can relate) that it can get pretty pricey. Yelp 365: 005/365 I thought that this place deserves a bit more credit. The selection of food here may not be great, but sufficient; especially when you are in a rush or do not have much time to dine. So far, all I know about this place is that it houses a Chinese place, Leo's Taverna, and a coffeeshop. I admit that I haven't really explored this place as well as I would like to; yet. I have only tried the coffeeshop so far and the coffee it serves are from Starbucks. They also make lattes and other coffee creations. That's....okay. However, they sell salads and sandwiches among many other things at this place at an affordable price. They open really early and I love hanging out here. It's a good, quiet place to study and relax; watching the news. It's also has great outdoor seats if you want to sit outside and relax; enjoying the sun. Well, they have really spiffed this place up since I last attended UH Manoa! They have way better options, so that is a lucky thing for the present students and staff! While I am temping at UH, I have tried The Curb, India Cafe, Panda's, L&L, the place in the middle (I can't recall their name), and Dominos. The Panda's is on par with all other Panda Expresses on the island. I'm sad they only offer chow mein and fried rice with no option for chow fun (which is my favorite). However, I ordered the eggplant tofu and while there were a generous amount of eggplant (8 pieces?), I had ONE piece of tofu. Seriously, people? The Domino's is fine and on par with standards, but they didn't have the chicken alfredo pasta when I last went and it was at 12:30, the middle of lunch rush. Seriously?? India Cafe is not memorable at all, as agreed by my friend, but I like their prices and it's different than my normal fare. It's just not quite flavorful enough - it's too bland in order to fit the tastes of the audience. L&L is also good and I have nothing to complain about. Their barbeque chicken is one of my preferred items to order! I usually get coffee of some sort at The Curb, and I LOVE their sandwiches. However, I'm not big on eating sandwiches for lunch so I only rarely enjoy their items. They do take a little while, they're not the most efficient of workers. There are a good amount of seating inside and outside, which I like. Lighting is good. I would study here if I were a student. I also enjoy that there is a microwave available, although I wish they'd add an additional one so there are two. read more

1.15.13 It's late & I almost forgot to write a post for today so this one will probably be short... (although if you haven't noticed I tend to get carried away and usually write novels). I have to say that Paradise Palms has come a long way since I first became a UH student a couple years ago. In hindsight, I didn't really like going to PP because it didn't really offer much food selection before; the only benefit of the place was that it offered a lot of tables/chairs and a place to meet or get some work done without having to sneak eating food. During it's renovation I loved how UH brought some food truck vendors on board to service Upper Campus students' food needs. It was slightly inconvenient though since they closed all of PP's indoor seating area. Now that it's reopened, the seating area is still the same (UH why couldn't you upgrade the tables and chairs?! Note of caution, make sure you check your table before you sit down, there's a lot of wobblers!). However, food selection is better; there's The Curb if you're in need of a coffee fix, L&L, India Cafe (beware: the mild is STILL hot! and they also serve gyros!), Panda Express, Domino's, a yogurt bar and an area that sells various sandwiches/wraps/pizza breads. My go to's are usually The Curb and Domino's (yet another guilty pleasure--their crust is SO good!!). I love coming here since I can eat and get work done at the same time. I feel like the lighting in there could be brighter/more natural and the temperature is pretty chilly, but sometimes thats nice on those hot days. Another thing to take note of, it can get pretty crowded so try to get there before peak hours (i.e. before lunch around 11:00) to grab a seat or come with friends to save yourself a table! Nothing really special about this place. I mean it has a lot of food options. But that's about it. It's essentially a hub. I'll need to give individual reviews for each vender that's inside. So this place it not a restaurant, it hosts them though. It is however, spacious. It has a lot of indoor and out door seating. They also have a few televisions for people to watch. But the place is a bit messy. It's not terrible, it's essentially like a mall food court, with some trash around, birds sneaking in, and a greasy atmosphere. The restrooms are okay... I say it should be cleaner, but it has soap, water, and paper towels, so at least it has the basics. So what's in here? They have a coffee shop, an indian food vendor, L&L vender, Panda Express vendor, gyro vendor, Domino's vender, and another vender that has an assortment of stuff in the middle of all the vendors. That vendor has yogurt, poke bowls, sandwiches, and other small kind of items. Anyway, restrooms play a big part on how I rate a place. So if the restrooms were maintained with better cleanliness, I'd give 4 stars. Another down side is that the A/C doesn't always work so it feels more hot a greasy sometimes. But for students, with home lunch, and a laptop, it's perfect for some shelter from the elements and outlets for power. read more

Alright so this isn't exactly one of those glamorous dining halls or anything but there are a lot of seats. It fills up during the middle of the day between classes but it's air conditioned. I don't care for most of the food places there but they have The Curb coffee and L&L express definitely places that are a must for lunch if you visit. They have gone through some rennovations in the past few years hopefully it's done changing for now. Oh! Before I forget there are pigeons walking around INSIDE... =[ that's the main reasons for the low marks. I've only noticed this recently so hopefully it will be taken care of and soon. **Bring a Jacket.BRRR** With classes at Moore Hall & Watanabe Hall, I'm constantly on the far side of the campus. With student campus being on the other side this place is a safe haven with better amenities than its sister campus center. Having a couple of well known restaurants like India Cafe, Domino's Pizza, and Panda Express are better choices that I know the food will not disappoint. Also for breakfast, I recommend you go to the L&L in paradise palms because its alot cheaper than Campus Center just beware L&L tends to have long lines. The coffee joint there is pretty good too, just watch the labels they tend to mix them up, like for instance I thought the fruit bowls was $3 ,but really came out to $6. Seating is abundant and well spread out. Without the cathedral ceilings you can actually laugh and sing with echoing to the whole room and getting stared at. My only concern is the layout for the entrance and exit. There are so many doors that when I want to exit I find myself in the little patio area outside but no connection to exit the structure. Hence that awkward moment when you retrace you steps, hope know one saw your "fail" moment, and smoothly act like you know where your going. Yeah, I've done that several times now. Bah-humbug. Overall this place has established itself as a good study hall, nice restaurants, pretty quiet, very clean with no funky smell. Food is not disappointing either. I'm pretty happy with this new paradise palms. I haven't been here since I was a Freshman, but from what I can remember, I didn't fancy it. When I did go to PP, I would just use the microwave (which they still have ). The new PP has the same layout in regards to seating. The vendors are different. There is a coffee shop, L&L, India Cafe, Gyro place, Panda Express, this other place with sandwiches, froyo, & salad (which I forgot the name to right now) and Dominos. I've eaten at the Gyro place a few times. I would recommend the gyro if you're in the mood for something different. They have Greek salad options, but I wouldn't bother. $8 for a salad that has less than the gyro is a rip. I have yet to try the India Cafe. Panda Express is pretty good. I've eaten the frozen yogurt a couple times. The Dole Pineapple flavor is good. The bummer is that they don't have too many fruit topping options. A lot of the toppings are for the dairy flavored yogurts. If you buy something there, remember to ask for a punch card! I really like Paradise Palms. I don't know if these workers had education but the way they treat the customers is just terribly bad! They say like 'what do u want' (with a grumpy look). SHAME on these workers!
