Probably this restaurant snagged me by having a special called, immodestly, "Tofu Lover" (which I am). Between that and the more by rote panang, I found this place yielded large takeout portions of passable, but unexceptional food. At least the spicy was spicy, and I got a solid two and a half meals out of it. This is not the standard bearer for fresh, healthy, or people with special dietary needs. I tend to think of Chinese places as cheap takeout and Thai as being fancy sit down restaurants for whatever culturally driven reasons, but I'd look at this one decidedly as the latter. If you want a nice restaurant, Beau Thai is not that far (geographically anyway), and even Siam House across the street may be worth trying. But as a quick bite, it'll do. read more

Absolutely disgusting, we stopped in on 4/7/23 and ordered two small soups for $20 , one Wonton soup and Tom Yum with shrimp that were un edible. The wonton soup had few cabbage or salad leaves and just one wonton piece and the Tom Yum had 3 shrimps and tasted horrid at a price of $20. I spooned some out of the container and noticed what I thought was a black string , as it looked too thick to be a hair .... as I forked through the rest of the dish I found another LONG thick black hair ... I also could tell the rice was way over cooked ... it was very gooey and clumped together Tom kha soup was disgusting ,cold and tasted sour ... nothing like any Tom Ka soup I have ever eaten at the many Thai food places all over the country. We came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was empty, so we were promptly seated and our service was great. I ordered the chicken pad thai, my girlfriend had the vegetable pad thai, and we got the vegetable gyoza to start. We both enjoyed our meals. The response is go to Target yes it's next door but for their restrooms you have to walk down the escalator and kinda deep into the store. I was extremely disappointed with my lunch I ordered today. I used DoorDash and the timeliness of the delivery was incredibly fast; however, the food was very "meh". I ordered the basil fried rice with shrimp and it was nothing more than a large bowl of overly fried rice, dried egg, basil and grape tomatoes. It is supposed to be cooked in a sauce but this dish was drier than the Sahara desert on its hottest day. In addition to the dried rice, egg and basil, the shrimp was not deveined and it was under cooked. Alright, let me start this review by saying that I moved here recently from Sydney, where Thai restaurants are crazy plentiful; akin to Starbucks, there is basically one on every corner. So I have had a lot of Thai food in the last few years (I honestly had a pad thai place on speed dial for Friday nights when I hated my job), and I know what I'm looking for. This is not it. My husband and dad were here recently during our move-in process, and hubs and I came back for a follow up visit about a week later when moving was taking forever and we just needed food as fuel. Fuel we got, tasty food we did not. I had the chicken pad thai and it just tasted...off. Not spicy, not flavorful, almost like someone had used the wrong spice on accident. Husband had the spicy green curry, which was so spicy he was sweating...I say yum, but he says yikes! As a way of countering the spice, he asked for a second serving of rice, the first one having been a bit stingy--think of an ice cream scoop when your mom is watching how much dessert you're allowed to have. So he gets the second serving, but we're told it's going to be $1 extra. Seriously? I fully respect that every restaurant has to watch their bottom line, but we were already paying for two full meals...it really just felt like penny pinching on their part. Which might be necessary if the rest of the menu is as "meh" as the pad thai. So, I'm super bummed to report that you should probably give this place a pass. I've heard good things about a Thai place in Dupont, and the next time I need some Tom Yum Gai, I'm going to head there instead. Don't worry though; I'll review it when I get there! read more

My boyfriend and I order from/eat here all the time, it's amazing! I always get chicken pad thai, but he likes to mix it up and has liked everything he's gotten. Yay no long black hairs! Given the frequency of that complaint in these reviews, we were all on the lookout and are happy to report a hairless dinner of many many plates. As I write this I am frustrated with the value many restaurants provide and Paragon Thai is included. I recently placed a carry out order of Shrimp Mai pha and Vegetable Druken Noodle. While the food was average the value was below average. My dish included 5 medium shrimp for a $16.95 dish. I think they should call this Gentlemans Mai Pha because it provides the opportunity to be a gentleman with a date by offering her the odd shrimp of the five, unfortunately it will leave you with little energy after dinner to be "less that a gentleman"! I understand that most Asian dishes if truly prepared the way they'd be served to Asians would include very little meat because of scarcity but Americans are accustomed to larger servings and if you charge prices like this I feel there could be, what, 6 shrimp ?! I also asked for extra chili and fish sauce and I was given 2 reason sized cups after a tab of $35 plus I tipped on a carry out. I've been going to Paragon Thai for a while now, it is a good restaurant - not the best Thai place I've ever been to, but it definitely satisfies ones Thai food craving and is delicious while being affordable. I really like that there is parking outside the restaurant and that they validate parking, it's another reason why I like Paragon - it's not a hassle to get to and its feet away from the Cleveland Park metro. The decor is ok, it's a bit dark in there but the seats are comfortable and there's usually no waiting time to get in the restaurant (at least from the few times I've gone). I wouldn't recommend sitting near the entrance of the restaurant during winter time because all the cold air comes rushing in whenever someone enters/leaves the restaurant. On my last visit I ordered the green curry with chicken and it was very tasty - I usually go with the yellow curry, which is probably my fav but I was feeling a bit more adventurous this time. The curry was very good, it had chicken, eggplant, lemongrass, bell peppers, and the green curry sauce was perfect, it was served with white rice on the side. All in all, this is a really good restaurant, and it's convenience, price, parking, and location make it our go-to Thai restaurant in the area. read more

Excellent! I recently ate at Paragon Thai Restaurant again (well, not ate at, but we ordered delivery through a third-party delivery service from there) and absolutely loved it! We both got pad thai, our usual. I ordered the beef Pad Thai this time and was not at all disappointed. The pad thai was perfectly fresh (some places have crusted over noodles and you can tell they're old, but this place had saucy and fresh noodles), they were generous with the toppings, and the sauce was wonderfully tasty.
