I was doing some last-minute holiday shopping in the area and happened to spot this shop at a glance while passing by and decided to drop by and take a look after finishing up my shopping. We were warmly greeted right away and given ample time to browse over their selection before deciding on which items to get. We did come around midday, so a lot of their baked goods were sold out. In the end, we decided to get a berry fruit tart and a quiche Lorraine to take home. Berry fruit tarts are one of my favorites, and theirs was simply superb. The crust wasn't too hard, the berries were well balanced in quantity and the consistency of the custard was just right. As we were going to check out, I saw that they had a menu for savory and sweet crepes and couldn't resist ordering one to eat there. After looking over the options, I decided to go with a strawberry sweet crepe. It came out freshly warm with a good amount of strawberries and strawberry sauce drizzled on top. Not overly sweet, and very filling. Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of the items we bought.

Decided to purchase some goodies for a friend and popped in only to see all the lovely pastries and crepes - beautiful place and amazing treats. Must go!

Second time in. Ordered the day prior for a staff birthday. They did a phenomenal job. Everyone was impressed and the desserts tasted top notch!

We love walking our dog here for a morning cup of coffee and crepe! You will not be disappointed by the food or the service, and it is perfect for a relaxing start to your Saturday. My favorite food is their macaroon and their sweet crepes! 10/10 recommend This is also the perfect place to pick up desserts for a special occasions such as Mother's Day and Easter!

A hidden French gem! Friendly service going out of their way to accommodate the customers. They made me a dessert called tarte tropezienne for one of my French theme dinners and it was delicious . The croissants and pain au chocolat are scrumptious. I didn't try the crepes it is on my to do list. I have also tried in the past their buche de Noel or French Yule logs and they were quite delicious. You can order them ahead of time for the holidays. Merci Paris Rendez Vous!

From soft, warm French Crepes to absolutely flavorful cakes, to an amazing variety of macarons - there were so many macarons that I wish I could have all of them. This place has it all. How about the customer service? Well let's just say that the guy working there was very nice and had amazing hospitality. Let's not forget about the ambiance which was top tier. I literally felt like I was in France.

My recent experiences have been for breakfast and I am grazing through the menu finding plate after plate to be up to what Mark Tarbell would call "elevated". (I did not. I ordered a full breakfast and a waffle like an adult with priorities.) I went around 9:15am on a Wednesday--only a few tables were occupied, and the staff was super friendly, gave great recommendations, and the food came out fast. Inside is dialed in with chandeliers, French-y posters and photos everywhere, and a pastry case with tarts, pastries, and cheesecake that basically dares you to behave. The croissant was the star... fresh, flaky, light, buttery... exactly what you want. The egg was cooked perfectly and the cheese was melted into it almost like a mini omelette (loved that). My only hiccup was the "bacon." It leaned more limp pork belly than crispy bacon and had a distinct smoke flavor that wasn't the traditional hardwood/hickory vibe I'm used to. Also... because the cheese and egg are fused together, it's basically impossible to pick the bacon out once it's in there. Next time I'd order it without bacon or ask for it on the side and make it crispy. It came with a side salad, which is not what I expected with breakfast, but it was actually great, fresh spring mix and a delicious dressing with a subtle sweet undertone. There were also hash browns with a crispy exterior and soft, warm interior, exactly the texture you hope for I just wish there were more of them! Because I have no self-control around French cafes, I also ordered the Belgian waffle with fruit and whipped cream. The waffle was warm and tasty, more tender/soft than crispy, and I ended up preferring it to the 'scrape the roof of your mouth' style that most restaurants serve up. The whipped cream tasted freshly whipped and the fruit selection was generous. My only critique: I'd skip the granulated sugar on top. The waffle is sweet enough already, and biting into sugar crystals isn't my favorite texture. For a drink I tried the blueberry lavender matcha. It had crushed blueberries in it, but the matcha flavor was pretty mild and the lavender got lost. I also would've liked a touch more sweetness from the syrup but overall it drank a bit "soft" and subtle. Bottom line... really cool little spot with friendly service, quick food, and a pastry case that will absolutely ruin any plan you had to "just eat light." I'll be back but next time I'm customizing that croissant sandwich and letting the pastries talk me into bad decisions.

I was scrolling TikTok (yep, I still do that sometimes) when one of their videos popped up and I immediately thought, "Okay... it's time." I decided on a Sunday morning and showed up around 6:45 AM (they open at 7). The parking lot was already pretty full, and I got in line behind about 40 people. Ohhh boy. Once the doors opened the line moved surprisingly fast. Walking inside, the smell of fresh baked goods literally punched me in the face in the best way possible. Since it was my first visit, I went full sample mode: two chocolate chip cookies, a carrot cake truffle bite, a cinnamon roll, a ham & cheese croissant, a pecan sticky bun, and a morning bun. Quite the spread for a little over $50. How was everything? Let me tell you... My wife and I split the cinnamon roll. Ten seconds in the microwave and it was pure magic...soft, gooey, and just melts in your mouth. The balance of sweet and slightly savory was incredible. Then came the ham & cheese croissant... equally outstanding. It was so good that one of our dogs just sat there staring at us like, "Uhh... any chance some of that could fall on the floor?" Fine. He got a little too. We saved a cookie for later and it was just as delicious. I held onto the carrot cake truffle for my wife since she loves anything carrot cake related and she was not disappointed. Damn, what a great find. So glad I live down the street. We will definitely be back!

The ube cheesecake cruffin was such a fun surprise flavor and the carrot cake truffle bite was personally my favorite. And that's a big statement considering I have lived in NYC, LA, and DC, all with far larger French communities than here. Best thing about them....there was not an overly high dependence on butter. The chocolate from the chocolate croissant was as good as it gets. I will come by to try some other things as well, the eggs looked great. Service was impeccable but I'm completely blown away. The food is consistently excellent, and the pastries are every bit as good as those I enjoyed while visiting Paris. As a locally owned business, Essence is an important part of the community. It's the kind of place where I almost always run into someone I know, which adds to its charm. My favorites are the seasonal omelets--they're so light and fluffy they're like little clouds on a plate. The specials are always worth considering, too. And no visit is complete without a croissant. Whether it's a savory cheese croissant or a sweet passion fruit and chocolate creation, they're all fantastic. My personal favorite is the pistachio croissant. Their French Macaroons are a decadent treat to take with you. Service can occasionally take a little longer than expected, but quality takes time, and the results are always worth the wait. If you're looking for a neighborhood bakery and café that combines exceptional food, world-class pastries, and a welcoming community atmosphere, Essence is one of Phoenix's gems.
