Visited SLO and this was our first stop after a few-hours drive. Really great staff, a nice large patio, and numerous TVs -- sounds like a great place to catch a game! We weren't super hungry and mostly wanted beer, but tried the currywurst fries. I'd rate them (4/5) just because I wish there were more sausage in it, but otherwise a very LARGE portion to share! We were in the mood for pretzels and schnitzel so headed over to Beda's Biergarten. We were very disappointed to find out that they were sold out of pretzels. When we arrived we settled for a chicken schnitzel sandwich on a pretzel bun, which was not quite the same, but it did scratch the itch The servers are all very friendly and accommodating. You see yourself and they bring you menus and take your order and it is table service. The setting is informal and a little rustic. They have a protected patio and some tables outside and a variety of options inside including bar seating. The french fries were delicious as was the cabbage. The pretzel was as expected, and is not normally a very flavorful item, but was very authentic. The chicken schnitzel sandwich was rather bland. The breading didn't have any spice and it looked to be more of a Panko style then the traditional crumb I would come back to Beda's when they have their pretzels back in stock. read more

Came here for the World Cup game and they had the whole set up with extra TVs!! Seems like the local place to be for sporting events! STAFF was so friendly and ACCOMMODATING it felt like a true community! They made room for everyone ! Range of things on the menu with some good looking food as well! read more

Spectacular. Not just a good German restaurant, but just a good restaurant! Service was tops. We sat outside in the coveted Biergarten out front. The World Cup was playing at it was very lively. We had a party of 8 and could make a reservation by phone call. The Herman beer list is off the chart and offered in 0.3 liter, 0.5 liter, 1 liter, and 2 liters (! Is that like a pitcher?). There's a reason other than Costco or the airport to go to SLO. When I crave German food, which is often, I come here. I thought I'd write y'all an update with additional details. Go! First, the place is kinda smallish: =========================== A small bar with 20 or so tables inside, and 2 places to sit outside: a covered area with about 8 tables and another 4 just outside the entrance door. Second, it's got 3 experiences (at least): ================================= * Lunch: not my preference, it's got no vibe. Food is good, service is good, vibe not since it's not busy * Dinner: great in all categories. Place is busting at the seams from 530p-on. Love. * Events: wonderful and loud especially during an event like World Cup. TV's are small, but it makes it more intimate and fun to gather close to yellers. Third, the food: ============== * The beer: OMG, love...love...love. All German bier all-the-time in various sizes from normal to HUGE, over a dozen types to choose from. * Schnitzel: had it once and it wasn't crispy, so now I ask for it "to be" when I place an order. So so good. They offer both chicken and pork, and have various ones from plain to/with sauces. * Sausages: awesome. I get the Wurst sampler plate with 3 sausages and 2 sides, and not problem, to take some home and heat up the next day. * Frikadellen: German meatballs with a creamy mustard sauce. First time here. Good variety of food options within the realm of sausages and schnitzels. At least 6 different types of sausages and various meat choices and breaded/sauté options for the schnitzels different sauce options too. I had the Wurst Breakfast, which was very good. Everyone enjoyed their food here, and they had outdoor seatings so we could bring our pup. Service was friendly and efficient. It looked cozy inside, so that's a plus, but we did eat outside ourselves. They looked to have a great beer selection too - with flights of smaller glasses to allow you to have a variety. Walked by Beda's because it is in the same plaza as my favorite Thai place in SLO (Thai Boat) and it looked fun so decided to stop in for lunch. They have outdoor seating and ordered a bunch of beer tasters (my favorite was the kölsch). We downloaded the SLO eats app and were able to get a HUGE discount. We both tried the wienerschnitzel with pork (don't get chicken) and they were so nice about my dairy allergy. Very clicky and unwelcoming if you aren't a regular, or not routing for the "right" World Cup team. Staff, including Brad, were rude and intimidating to me and to some other customers. My Experience there (3 different times during World Cup games) in no way met the vibe, or advertised values of community, warmth, relaxing and welcoming, as advertised. Too bad, because the sports viewing is excellent, the beer, cider, non alcoholic beverages and the food are delicious. What a wonderful surprise to find this gem buried on the otherside of SLO. After a week of hanging out at a hotel off the 101, it was time for a non-chain restaurant. Usually one for Obadtza and sauerkraut, I ventured and tried a version of a sheppard's pie. A surprisingly good dish with sauerkraut as the base, I couldn't have asked for more. Their beer selection seems plentiful, though I was not in the mood. I came here for dinner, but will definately return for their lunch specials. Coming here on a week night the place was just filling up as we were leaving making our service quick and personable. Table near us created an unsafe environment, yelling obsceneties and slurs like it was the mid 2000s. Wasn't a fan when they started using homophobic slurs. I was relived when the owner came out to talk to them. I ordered the breaded pork Jaegerschnitzel with coleslaw and potato salad sides. The coleslaw is definitely home made and it was outstanding! Loved the potato salad as well. My schnitzel was just ok-the breading was somewhat tasteless and the cutlet itself was very dry. The brown mushroom gravy didn't give it anything extra like I had hoped. My husband had the Beda Burger with coleslaw and fries. He liked it but thought he should have ordered a sausage plate with sauerkraut instead since our neighbors at the next table ordered it and it looked and smelled delicious . Beers were tasty. We ate rather early before a local punk rock show so it wasn't too crowded-got seated quickly, easy ordering, food came out hot and rather promptly. There's not a lot of options for authentic German food and beer in the area and Beda's Biergarten fits the bill! The menu is German comfort food, from schnitzel to stroganoff and, of course various wursts and giant warm pretzels with yummy mustards. Awful awful service! They were too full today and allowed us to come into the bar. Not only were the other customers rude and disrespectful but they put us into a corner to get us out of the way AFTER ordering and spending money but they got mad for us then being in the corner and knocking one painting off. We hopped in for lunch on a rainy day and grabbed a table inside near the beer cooler. Lots of fun commercial brews are on offer here, as well as many specialty beers on tap. I chose the onion soup with a spinach salad, and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc to accompany it. My pal got a bratwurst to partner with a large pretzel with mustard and cheese. The servers were friendly and it was fun to watch the European soccer game in progress on the tv over the bar. We split an apple strudel for desert, and lingered over our beverages chatting and remembering a trip we took to Germany. A taste of Bavaria in our own back yard. The food here is so reminiscent of the dishes that we enjoyed in Salzburg. It's a small little, out-of-the-way restaurant, but with plenty of seating. The staff is friendly and very helpful in pronouncing the menu items and the beers. My husband loved the beer that he had. We both ordered different variations of pork schnitzel & loved them both (I had enough for leftovers the next day, and it actually tasted even better the second time.). One dreams of making a discovery during one's travels, a place that is unexpectedly authentic and delicious; a place worth returning to the next time one is in town. Beda's Biergarten, with its large menu of German beers, schnitzels, and wursts was not one of those places. It was a tired looking college town joint in a strip mall and not a bustling Biergarten on a Friday night. The bar stools were occupied by enormous beer-drinking Germanic guests who spoke quietly among themselves and none were speaking in German. Our waiter was slow to take orders and corrected the German menu items we ordered into English. At that point we got it that the place was German in name only but hoped that the food was authentic. The wiener schnitzel was thin and tough, like a piece of cardboard coated in breading and fried in butter. The three sausages in the wurst platter were overcooked and sat on a bed of sauerkraut, which tasted acceptable but did not need the added bacon flavor. The side dish of cucumber salad was too cumin-forward and the potato salad was too wet. The best side dish was the potato dumplings, which were cut up and fried in butter. The beers were good and earns this place three stars. read more

So, many don't know but I lived in Germany for a while. But many of you know that I love food. Probably didn't know that includes German cuisine. Just to clarify. I love food. All food. So, when my friend suggested Beda's for dinner, she didn't have to twist my arm. Lots of parking. At least there was for an early Saturday dinner. Most everyone was seated in what looked to be an outdoor covered area. We sat indoors. I think there was one other party. Needless to say, service was excellent. Can't help the others without passing by our table. No names. Not because I didn't ask. I just don't remember. But they were awesome. Attentive. Friendly. Funny too. Then there's the food. It was explained that the food would be similar, but not exactly the same as it's prepared in the region in Germany where I lived. The staff was also informative. Forgot to mention that. The Rahm Schnitzel - we ordered pork and both garlic spinach and Spatzle was reminiscent of my time in Germany. The mushroom gravy was a nice touch and not overpowering. And the pork wasn't dry. We also shared a Currywurst Pommes Frites. I liked but didn't love. I might have if not for the overpowering curry taste. At least it was the case for both my friend and I. If I were ordering it again, I'd ask for it on the side so I could control the concentration by dipping as opposed to it coming dropped as part of the dish (see pics). I pass thru SLO a few times a year. I'd definitely stop in again for some great German food. Maybe next time some German beer! read more

This was our very first time going to Beda's. Our server, Jake E. really made our visit very enjoyable. He was great! Jake was very professional, friendly and helpful when we asked about dinner suggestions. I ordered the Rahm Schnitzel (breaded pork) with mushroom gravy, with sides of Spaetzle and Spinach. My husband ordered the Zigeuner Schnitzel (breaded pork) with slightly spicy red gravy that wasn't too spicy but flavorful, and Knodel (potato dumplings) and Red Cabbage. We also decided to order their bread pudding with ice cream. All our dishes were very delicious and generous! The ambiance was quite nice too. We chose to sit inside. But they do have an outdoor seating area, which is enclosed with glass windows and heaters. I think you'll enjoy Beda's. Nice to have German food here in SLO!
