This restaurant was amazing. We went around 5 o'clock on a week day and it wasn't very busy. The food was phenomenal. I got the pork job and it was juicy, flavorful, and well cooked. My girlfriend got the shrimp and grits and it was the best shrimp and grits I've ever eaten. There were like five different flavors in each bite. Service-We were seated upstairs in a lovely room, patio was closed because of the heat/humidity. After leaving our car at the free valet parking, we walked 10 steps into the restaurant. The bar was busy and somewhat loud as it was Friday evening 5:45 but everyone seemed to be having a great time. We were greeted by a pleasant hostess who took us upstairs, there we were greeted by Amanda, our server. I can't say enough positive things about her, she was perfect-gave recommendations when asked without being intrusive. we settled on splitting a wedge salad-it had a light sweet, hot sauce that was great and accompanied by their complimentary homemade focaccia bread. Started off really strong, then we had the salmon with rice and green beans and the pork chop with green chili mac and cheese-again didn't disappoint. Finished with the Napoleon crème brûlée. The entire dinner was fabulous and we can't wait to go back-it's definitely on the list to take out of town guests. Unfortunately, we did not have a great stop here. There was good service and the setup was charming, being in a converted house. However, the food was not cooked well. Specifically the steak and pork chop were VERY undercooked-- which for pork, is dangerous. All the sides were pretty tasty and the one redeeming part of the dinner. It makes me think they may have new kitchen staff as restaurants are getting back to full house. I'll try to give it another chance later. read more

We dined at park cafe with a party of 6. Our drinks took 40 minutes to get (we had finished our appetizers before even getting our drinks) and every time the waitress came by she avoided eye contact and was too fast for us to complain. Eventually, someone at the restaurant apologized to us and comped our first round. Then the entrees. The entree sides were cold and the main dish as hot. I had a steak and the potatoes and asparagus were cold but the steak was warm. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone...disappointing because the food was actually really yummy but the service was terrible. read more

If Yelp reviews were solely based on food, this place would definitely receive a slightly higher rating. We started with barbecue nachos and baked oysters (Yes, I already know what you're thinking, but diversity!) and both were really great. The oysters had bacon, which just is the icing on the cake for baked oysters. HINT: they are served on what appears to be something edible, but fair warning, they are just rocks. DO NOT EAT THEM. The bbq nachos were served in a giant pot with beans, cheese and chicken. they were pretty good, but I would say the topics were lacking for the size of the dish. I personally ordered the crab cakes which, for some strange reason comes with corn on top. Not a fan of corn, but the sauce for the crab cakes was amazing!!!! NOW TO THE WEIRD STUFF. To mimic what others have said, the service here is...strange. Our server asked us a question, then just walked away. He also kept putting his hand on my shoulder, which I felt was a little invasive as I don't like to be touched by anyone. When I thought he had walked away, my boyfriend said something about the corn on the crab cakes knowing I did not like it, and our other friends later told us our waiter was standing and eaves dropping on the conversation. He later made a joke about the corn, which was playful, but still, I felt a bit uncomfortable. I would return for the food, but not the service. TIP: I'd suggest sitting in the back room. As far as I am concerned, this is one of the best restaurants in Nashville. I've taken my parents and friends here and they have all loved it. Definitely something for everyone on the menu with great salads and fish dishes (which is what I'm usually looking for). And, of course, there's the green chile macaroni and cheese. The interior seating is a little different. Definitely not your staid dining room. Lots of little warrens and corners to sit, and great outdoor seating as well which is always a plus. The place is always hopping when I drive by. There's valet parking in the front or plenty of street parking in the neighborhood. I'm definitely glad it's in my neighborhood, and it is one of the highlights of Sylvan Park. I've heard both Dolly Parton and Reese Witherspoon have dined here, and I can see why. It can be a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it. read more

Park Cafe was nothing short of excellent! My husband and I came for happy hour, and we didn't leave disappointed. We practically tried everything on the happy hour menu. The Boudin Balls were so delish that I'm salivating as I think about them while typing this review. We also got fried pickles, which I thought were good but my husband thought were the best creation since sliced bread! The buffalo chicken egg rolls with a side of cole slaw were seriously thebomb dot com. The burger was also A-OK (probably our least favorite but solid). To top off our excellent food experience, the head chef made a special visit to our table and had us try a new recipe he was experimenting for cheese biscuits! He made us feel so special!! Their drinks were also made just right. Not too strong, but not too weak. Tip: The only snafu of the night was that their website said happy hour started at 4:30 (which is when we got there), but that is only when the happy hour drinks start. The kitchen doesn't actually open until 5. Overall, we had a great experience here. The atmosphere was cool. Our server was very sweet. We can't wait to go back! read more

This has been consistently one of our go to restaurant since we moved here 10 years ago. The food preparation and variety is excellent. The peach salad with arugula and goat cheese was very well done. We enjoyed a few appetizers for the table that also were quite tasty. A new twist on a pizza, fig! Excellent. Our service was good ---attentive but not overbearing. That being said, the noise level was crazy. We thought it was one specific table near us who were a bit boisterous; however when they left it did not let up. We had two other parties of six surrounding us. Our table was located in the far back corner with a low ceiling. I don't know what the solution would be to make it quieter in this area. The bar also seemed quite noisy as well. The best thing about Park Cafe is the bar. It has a great atmosphere and the drinks are really good! They have an impressive wine list, something for everyone. The service in the bar is excellent and you can eat in there. If I go back I'll opt for that. Our service was not good. The server just didn't pay us much attention! The food was fine, but after it took forever for us to order, then a long time for our food to get out to us, I was pretty much over it. My sea bass was tasty, I guess I can't complain about that. But, my garlic mashed potatoes were barely warm. The guy I was with got the yellowtail sashimi and said it was really good. Park Cafe does have a good menu. I'll give 'em that. Fish, steaks, pastas, good salads, shrimp, and a wide variety of sides. I hear the mac and cheese is to die for! I've heard so many good things about this place that I'll give it a whirl again. She had the best attitude ever, gave top shelf service, but wasn't too busy to converse or joke around with guests. All of the staff there are professional, but she is more. Our company held a dinner at Park Cafe for 24 people. I had never eaten there before. It was a beautiful evening so they let our group gather on the patio for appetizers and beverages. The fire pits provided a nice ambience. Dinner was in the private space on the second floor. Everything from the appetizers to the dessert was DELICIOUS! Everyone raved over the food! Yvette was a huge help choosing the menu selections. She made great suggestions. Our server, Doug, was also amazing. He made sure everyone was happy and did not want for anything. This just became our favorite restaurant! With all of the overpriced, mediocre restaurants with mediocre food and mediocre service that it seems like we get in Nashville these days, this was a refreshing change! The service we got from Jordan was excellent and the food was outstanding. Worth every penny. I had the hoisin marinated BBQ pork chop with the green chile mac 'n cheese and it was to die for! I also shared some of my husband's wedge salad with fried green tomatoes. It was very fresh and the red pepper jelly was the perfect touch. For appetizers we had the chicken spinach dumplings which I loved, and the fig & pig pizza which I didn't eat because I don't like figs but everyone else loved. My only complaint is it was WAY TOO LOUD! We couldn't hear each other even though we were seated at a small 4 top. I even had to ask our waitress to repeat herself multiple times and finally gave up. This is our favorite upscale restaurant to go to in Nashville. That's saying a lot since we've been locals for several years! Everything we've had here is fresh and delicious. Some of our favorites are the seared tuna for a starter, trout for entree and red velvet shortcake for dessert. The pricing is very fair considering the good portion sizes. The specialty drinks are also tasty. We haven't gone for happy hour but I know they do offer reduced prices during it. The service is attentive and they have followed any special requests when booking through Open Table. The restaurant is in an updated older home and the inside feels welcoming. There is a big bar and plenty of nooks for more private occasions. There is not much self parking but they offer complimentary valet. If we are looking for a fancy dinner, we come here! read more

Three of us had the pleasure of eating dinner at Park Cafe. It was a wonderful experience, start to finish. The stuffed meatball and stuffed date appetizers were "over the top" good. Their use of interesting ingredients and beautiful presentation made it so enjoyable. We had the crab cake special as well as the salmon. They were very good that night and even better the next day. Nashville Yelpers, I know y'all don't know me, but I swear I'm a nice person. I give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, chalking up slow service to understaffing, or gross food to an abrupt kitchen change or a bad shipment. Then there's always the "off night" argument. But this, this was just straight up bad. Based on the reviews, my cohort and I chose Park Cafe as our dinner selection for our one night in Nashville. We pulled right up to the valet, asked him if we needed reservations, and he assured us that the place was typically packed, but tonight we'd be okay. We then walked in to an empty restaurant. Curious. The place feels more suited to those paying with Social Security than our young hip selves, but we decided to give it a fair shake and settled in with the menu. A lot caught my eye, but seriously, could this place have less of an identity? The menu was ALL over the place, from bread with chimichurri to chili mac and cheese to crabcakes to caesar salad. Pick something and run with it, people. We decided on an assortment of appetizers: crab cakes, shaved brussel sprout salad, szechuan green beans, and the cheese souffle. What we got were "crab cakes" that tasted exactly like chicken, overdone and underseasoned green beans, a brussel sprout salad that tasted nothing like the sprouts I love, and a four-cheese souffle that reminded me of sweaty cooked brie. Needless to say, we left most of it behind, and nothing was even remotely good. Our server started off quite friendly and attentive, but after being assigned an admittedly high maintenance table of regulars, we were completely ignored. There was no mention of the amount of food left on our plates, and while we dined a seasoned waitress came through the restaurant to train a newbie, all the while loudly pointing out where the liquor was stored, how the owner likes the tables set, etc. If this is great stuff for Nashville, I'm seriously concerned for y'all's sanity. read more

It had been over a year since I had dinner at Park Cafe and I was pleased to join a group of neighbors for a happy hour get-together. Happy hour runs from 4:30 to 6:30 every day. I got there right on the money, but the valet parkers weren't there yet so I parked on a nearby side street. I had never been to their happy hour and found it enjoyable with great service, good small plates, and tasty drinks. I had a couple of my usual Manhattans ($6), a small bowl of excellent gumbo ($6), and a plate of four one-half deviled eggs. I don't remember the price on them; maybe the second Manhattan had fuzzed my brain. The restrooms are clean and the whole place has a good feel to it. Park Cafe has now been around long enough to become a tradition and I think it is continuing to keep up its standards. It just might become my new 'Cheers' read more

I have been going to Park Cafe for years. Then, I just stopped going. No reason. But after a couple year hiatus, I have been back twice in the last few weeks. Ah-mazing. On my first trip, we had the Chorizo-stuffed dates wrapped in Benton Farms bacon. YUM. Nothing more to say. We also shared the Hot Chicken and Waffles, and the Goat Cheese flat-bread. All great. For an entree, I had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly to order. A nice crisp exterior and medium rare inside. The Szechuan green beans were delicious and cooked perfectly. I also had to order the Green Chile Mac N Cheese. I love J. Alexanders, but there is a dispute in my family about their Mac N Cheese. Many in my family say that J's Mac is the best around. I say it is too oniony. Well, Park Cafe's Green Chile Mac clearly edges out J Alexanders Mac as best, both in flavor and for the really superior breadcrumb topping. On my second visit, I brought my niece and her fiance for her birthday. For Drinks, two stand out. Try the Sangria. It's really good. My niece ordered something with champagne and pomegranate juice that was also quite wonderful. My niece and I got the braised lamb shanks, while her fiance got a rack of lamb on greens special. Wow. WOW! The braised lamb was fork tender and served with crispy, delicious polenta (and I am not a polenta fan). It also came with some colorful and delicious, multi-colored, roasted baby carrots. We loved it. The lamb had such great flavor. The flavor of goat cheese crumble accented the lamb in such a wonderful way. Everything came together into a wonderful plate. I highly recommend this dish. Oh, yeah, when confronted over the Mac N Cheese wars, we achieved peace. Both conceded that Park Cafe's Green Chile Mac is superior. Finally, we were too stuffed for dessert, but since it was my niece's birthday, we had to have something sweet, at least to share. Now, I was eyeing the flourless chocolate torte, but my niece went for the Creme Brulee. Creme Brulee? Meh! Oh well, it was her birthday... BOING! -- Eye-bulging Double-take! -- (insert cartoon noises for surprise here) OMG! The Creme Brulee. THE CREME BRULEE! This is not creme brulee. It is some dessert that has the creme and the brulee, but it is vastly superior to any creme brulee you might have had. Layers of custard between crisp phyllo dough squares, dusted with powdered sugar, with burnt sugar caramel drizzled on top and around the plate, with dollops of something I think was dulce de leche as well. The complimentary contrasts just delight your palate. It's cool and warm, creamy and crispy, sweet and toasty, and out of this world! Go. Go now. There could be an earthquake. A nuclear war. Go to Park Cafe and get the Creme Brulee before it is too late. This is a bucket list item, folks. As you ascend to heaven, you do not want to look down and think, "Damn, I never had the Creme Brulee at Park Cafe." It's that good. Finally, service was excellent. Our wrapped pigtailed server was elegant, funny, attentive, and very professional. We never had to look for her. She was just magically there when we wanted something. The menu won't scare anyone. But yet this place has real flair. Everything is good: salads, desserts, even the coffee rocks. Pooling meals is highly encouraged. I don't care for the converted-house layout and grandmotherly feel to the dining room but some may find this charming. It's not cheap but reasonable for the outstanding quality. I've eaten here a number of times over the past few years and I have never had a bad meal or bad service. Usually when I look at a menu at a fine dining restaurant, I have a pretty easy time making a decision. You have your fowl, fish, and beef dishes, plus the obligatory high profit margin pork dish. Naturally Park Cafe has these standard, but it also always has a few things on there that are truly special that have to tried, like duck, scallops, lamb - and that doesn't even include if they have a nice dinner special. The last time I was there, I had a veal dish that I didn't know whether to eat or rub on my body. They also seem to have the same depth of selection on starters, I've really enjoyed their crab cakes and the cheese soufflé. They have a great wine selection as well and offer many wines by the glass. And as a reminder, you can order a half-glass, a secret at fine restaurants that most people don't realize so you can pair your courses with wine and not break the bank (or be too smashed to remember what you ate). The service has been excellent, I also like the venue, a converted house that has many rooms and reminds me of a rabbit's warren. They have a good bar as well, with a happy hour that features $5 plates. I've never gotten any specialty cocktails, but they do know how to make a good gin martini with bleu cheese-stuffed olives, and that's pretty much all you would ever need. read more

I am torn on my rating as it varies based on the night and purpose for my visit; Christmas party, girls night out, impromptu happy hour to dinner with friends. Overall this is a great local place, food is good and the drinks are good. I personally don't think this is a great date spot if you intend to have a private conversation. It is very small and the tables are very close; if your not careful you will be listening to their conversation and totally forget about the people you are with! The "Better than Sex Chocolate Cake" is the bomb! Now I don't know if it would go down as better than sex with the right person but if they were just okay; I would choose the cake! Just saying! Crab cakes, Mac & Cheese, flatbreads, cheese plates, you name it and it has been great. They have a wonderful selection of wines and good prices for Happy Hour. A couple of tips; not a lot of seating at the bar so if you are coming for HH; get there early. Parking is horrible but they offer valet - use them! read more

This restaurant is truly as good as it gets. If you're looking to drop a little more coin than average on a top notch meal, this is THE place to go. It has been my go-to special occasion place ever since I moved to Nashville 5 years ago. I like both inventive flavor combinations as well as well-executed classics, and the menu at the Park always includes the best of both worlds. The chef's line-up changes with the seasons, and makes excellent of use of local produce and fresh fish, etc. The last time I was there I ordered a dish that included roast duck with sweet potato gnocchi and a beet paste garnish...very interesting and very delicious. DO NOT MISS the green chili mac and cheese. Even if you have totally stuffed yourself, do yourself a favor and get some to go. The bread and chimichurri they bring out at the beginning of the night is also outstanding. 2 entrees and a glass of wine each will set you back around $75, which is totally reasonable for a great dining experience in such a cozy setting. read more

Park Cafe was chosen as my first Nashville establishment to visit with a lady friend. I have to say, I was not disappointed. We were seated in the front window, pretty cozy, nice and quiet, very nice. We split a crab cake app, and it was very good. For meals I had their special salad that day, along with a mahi special they were running, and my lady friend ordered the lamb, The salad was absolutely fantastic. I mean, really good. The Mahi, honestly, I was not impressed by. It was not bad or anything, it just wasn't spectacular. The lamb that my lady friend had, however, was quite delicious. My favorite part of the whole meal though, were her brusell sprouts. I brought my own wine, and really did not pay much attention to the wine list, but we did order a second bottle from the "off the menu specials"(code for, shit they couldn't sell, for whatever reason, and want to move) It was a tasty Sicilian Nero, I absolutely love Southern Italian wines. We could not decide on dessert, not because none of it sounded good, but because we had some other things to do that night. Our service was absolutely fantastic, and the lady friend was extraordinarily happy. That means I was happy, and Park Cafe will get a return visit. read more

When I'm in the mood for some fine dining in Nashville, Park Cafe is the place! The ambiance is cozy and romantic but it's definitely not the fanciest. The restaurant is a renovated house so it does feel like you're eating at someone's house. The menu changes often, as the chef uses fresh ingredients that he gets. I tend to enjoy the appetizers more than the entrees and often order 2 appetizers as a meal. One entree that I thoroughly enjoyed was the Lamb Shank: it literally fell off the bone and melted in my mouth. I usually cringe at the taste of fennel but the chef incorporated it into the sauce so well that I actually enjoyed the combination of flavors. The food is usually plated artistically. For dessert, I suggest trying their take on Creme Brulee. It's a little different, doesn't have the torched sugar, but it's still very tasty. To address people who have had a less than satisfactory experience, I'd say that a restaurant experience greatly depends upon the selections you make. You have the realize that the chef has to add in items for the less adventurous, vegetarians, bland eaters, or those with allergies. You can't go to foodie-type restaurant and order the chicken or a house salad and expect to be blown away. I'm going to Park Cafe next week for a friend's birthday. The first time I went to Park Cafe I was not all that impressed, but we had a gift card so we decided to give it another try and had a wonderful experience! We were able to sit on the back patio (which in my opinion reminded me of a scaled-down Tavern on the Green) and had perfect weather, so that didn't hurt!! We started with the cheese plate and each had a salad. It was all wonderful. I got the scallops and my husband got the lamb. It was delicious! For dessert we got the seasonal bread pudding (I believe it was peach) with a cinnamon ice cream. Having lived in Nashville only a few months, I was invited by a friend to a business dinner at the restaurant. I will not be back. We had reservations, but apparently there would have been no wait for the party of 6 on a Wednesday night. The service was pleasant and efficient. We ordered the local cheese plate and goat cheese brulee for the table. Both were very good. I ordered the Cafe Salad and was immediately disappointed with the portion size. The BROWN PAPER TOWEL hidden within the lettuce, however, was the kicker. When I tried to cut the lettuce with a knife, it became apparent that there was something inside. The waitress was also appalled as were my fellow diners. She took the salad back to the kitchen and later apologized that the towel was used to dry the lettuce and was accidently left in the salad. How this could happen on such a small salad is beyond me. No manager visited to apologize for the mistake. The rest of the meal was okay, the portions small for the price. The green chili mac and cheese was very good. Whether or not the restaurant comped any part of the meal, I do not know since I was not paying. I really would like to recommend the cheese plate to start (and also the crab cakes, if you like them). Park Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville. They have been around for years with good reason. The space is an old house with a few separate dining areas and the back patio is fabulous! It's one of those places you can go for a special occasion, dinner with a group or just a casual happy hour. Speaking of happy hour, they have awesome happy hour specials! The small plates are very creative and there is enough variety to suit any palate. We sometimes prefer ordering several small plates instead of full entrees. The macaroni and cheese is to die for...I think it's been on their menu since the beginning and should NEVER be removed! In fact, you could make a meal of the mac 'n cheese alone. They also have a private dining area upstairs. It seats 50 or so people and they will design a special menu for your party. I've attended a couple of corporate events there and both were great. The location is a little off the beaten path so it is sometimes overlooked but you should definitely add this to your list of must try restaurants in Nashville. read more

There are literally no words to describe how much I love this place. I've only visited four or five times now, but not once have I had anything to complain about whatsoever. The green chile mac and cheese is something that you cannot pass up when/if you do decide to pay a visit. Valet is always free here, which is a great when you come to realize how sparse Sylvan Park's parking is. The service isn't necessarily anything to write home about, but the waiters I have had so far here were all quite attentive and knowledgeable of the food and drink menu. Now, yes, it is a very small restaurant so if you're planning on going out to have a private conversation don't expect for it to be quiet. Overall, Park Cafe holds a spot in my top five Nashville restaurants and I don't see them slipping out of the ranks anytime soon. read more

I had had an wonderful meal at Park Cafe sometime before I officially moved to Nashville a little over two years ago and then yesterday, my husband (then boyfriend) and I decided to celebrate the happy occasion of Monday by going back for a nice meal. Being that it was a Monday, reservations were definitely not needed. We sat outdoors next to the stone fountain in their new(?) patio area and although it was a little chilly and a little difficult to imagine that you are not sitting in a former parking lot, it was for lack of better descriptive terms, nice. Pros: The side of green chili mac 'n' cheese was hands-down dope. I would almost recommend ordering two of these and calling it an entree. But then you'd have to order a side of two other entrees because the scallops and the duck that we ordered were also done quite well. The gnocchi that the duck sits on melts in your mouth. We also ordered the special appetizer, mussels. What was remarkable was that each mussel was served with its own sprinkling of ground up chorizo, tomato, and some thick, but delicate green sauce (sorry, don't remember the details of this one). Service was warm and pleasant. And at the end of the night, my husband asked, "How is it that I lived across the street for a year and never came here to drink alone?"
