I know everyone says this all the time but believe me when I say, Park Place Market is a hidden gem. Yes, I am everyone. Seriously, Park Place Market has become a go-to location for my household during the pandemic. They have a nice selection of groceries and wine (you cannot forget the alcohol!) that has helped us reduce how many times we have to go to the larger grocery stores. Park Place Market has a lot of the staple items bread, milk, eggs, and ice cream (yes, ice cream is a staple item). Over the last few months they've been able to keep a constant stock of cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, and hand wipes. The staff at Park Place Market are friendly and extremely handful whenever you are looking for a particular item. This is the type of market that if there becomes a big enough demand for something they would make an effort to try to obtain that item. Time to address the elephant in the Yelp review, yes everything is more expensive than it would be at the grocery store. You are paying for the convenience of having a market right in your neighborhood. They also have a $10 minimum for debit or credit cards but you can easily get to that minimum if you are grabbing a few items. I am in the building twice a week and am a regular customer of the store. Here's by "good and "bad" review. The good: great selection of fresh foods, sandwiches, fruits and vegetables. Terrific for picking something up quick and you don't want to haul it up to Jewel. It's a clean store. The bad: extremely overpriced. Example - 10.00 for a case of water. $14.00 for cigarettes. The owner can be unpleasant at times. I'm giving somewhat of a pass because working behind the desk at a register all day long can't be easy. It's a good place but the prices just make it impossible to give it more than three stars. read more

This is the convenience store in my building. An indian man named 'Ken' runs it and he is always rocking out to lite fm aka madonna, disco, and seal, among other hits. If YMCA comes on, all hell breaks loose. Also, when the diet coke was out of order, a sign saying 'diet cock is out of order' was posted on it. See pic for reference. I live in the area and have been coming here for about 2 years. I am a black woman and every time I go there the owners blatantly follow me down every isle. This place makes me semi-violent. Even more so because I end up frequenting it since it is close and open until midnight. That, and that it is a good sized convenience store, are the only reasons I'll give it two stars. Almost everything is grossly overpriced, more-so than other convenience stores (they always seem to be a bit of a rip-off). The only exception I'll give is with the hummus (fairly standard price) and apparently the mac and cheese, though I know that only from the previous reviewer. Besides the prices, what makes me hate this store is the guy who is always behind the counter. He sees me ALL the time, yet is never friendly, often even curt. I've also witnessed him being really rude with other customers (banging on the counter and yelling at them to hurry up when they were getting money out). There is no excuse for that. I should really boycott. If it weren't for this part of Irving Park being so dead and dark at night, I definitely would. read more

The reason I use this convenience store is...because of its convenience. I live in this building and it's great to have this store if I need to make an emergency beer run and don't want to leave the building... ...however...due to its convenience, the prices are kinda ridiculous and if I had some sort of dire bread or cheese emergency, maybe I'd shell out $6 for a loaf or brick. The owner has always been nice to me and the store is always clean when I've been inside. This place puts the "convenience" in "convenience store", but that's about it. I have worked in Park Place for 6 years now and have not only appreciated this market, but have also grown awesome relationships with its workers! From delicious deli sandwiches to lint rollers, they have it all! Kenny has been someone who has always managed to keep the shelves stocked to perfection and a smile on my face! THE OWNER IS A JERK, AND PRICES ARE JACKED. You would think the owner of a store would have some appreciation for customers and realize that being a complete prick means they WON'T COME BACK. I've seen him be rude to other customers, and I finally decided to stop shopping here because he literally would not accept my money. I had 20 pennies-- yes, U.S. pennies, mixed with my money to purchase a low priced item. He threw my money on the counter and said I'd have to come back with a roll of pennies from the bank if I wanted to use them. YOU MUST BE KIDDING. In front of other people, I had to scrape my change off the counter and leave. My husband and I will not be shopping here again. Also, prices are absurdly inflated. He has a monopoly here because of the location, but I'd rather walk in 0 degree weather to another store than give him my money, and more money than the items are worth, at that. I think there are many more deserving small business owners who deserve to rent that space. I'll be sure to spread the word, buddy. read more

Owner is rude and hikes the prices like crazy. He seems to be too inconvenienced to give an extra bad. The guy behind the counter often seems as he just wants your money and doesn't care if customer satisfaction or needs. Also bought a apple juice from the store that of course was over priced and the juice was open and had some what looked like mold inside the glass floating around. Will not be providing him money any more since that's all he "seems to want" so he can buy his 1 cent bag he is too worried to give to me. read more

I will never set foot in there again. The man working behind the counter called me a terrible name accompanied by a swear word because I forgot to put an item back because my Uber driving was calling and i had to run. I live in the building and one reason I love living her is because of this store. In the city is so difficult to find a place with EVERYTHING! This is a one stop shop for me. They have liquor, beer, wine, soda, millions of juices, frozen foods, deli sandwiches, wrapping paper, medicines, atm machine, fresh produce, everything! And they are so good that when i ask for something they dont have, they get it for within 2 days. My parents come to visit me and they love my place for the same reason. They love to make meals and think its so convenient to just go downstairs and pick up spices and any veggie if they need it. I can host parties on the fly cuz on my way up I pick up everythign that I need for my party. The guy behind the counter knows me by name and is super friendly. I am nice to him so he is very sweet with me. Love this place dearly and love my place even more because of this amazing luxury! read more

While this store does have a great selection for a small convince store (and I do mean great, they have way more than all the other food & liquor stores in the area), the prices are too absurd to make this anything more than a place to pick up an item in a pinch.
