The check in woman said I was the 2nd person the scheduler told the wrong month to. Check in woman felt really bad and said she would talk to Voelker and see if she could move up the appointment and do a zoom since I already had tests done elsewhere and I was heading out of state at the end of the month because, again, our house burned down. The office is an absolute mess. Was called so many times about rescheduling - never spoke to the same person twice. After they said Voelker would do zoom, then a new person called me said she would not. Around and around I went. Ultimately, Voelker would NOT move up the appointment. Not a nice person. Cannot recommend with a white hot passion.

Since 2001, I had visited multitude of Doctors and Surgeons and had multiple procedures to my Neck and throat to treat my condition, all of which had some temporary relief. I had visited 6 or 7 sleep disorder specialist up and down the West coast. I was fortunate enough to finally meet Dr. Eric Kezirian, early 2015. From the get go, it was all about what was right for my specific condition, all kinds of tests and findings. Dr. Kezirian always explained the procedures, and the office staff the associated costs. No surprises. Dr. Kezirian and his staff (even though they didn't have to ) went through a grueling 18 months battle with my insurance company to try and get me approved for the Inspire device and even worked harder to help me find sources that would offset some of the costs associated with my surgery. (Not quite sure how but at some point I received a letter from the Congress in Washington, ordering my Insurance Company to approve the Inspire Device for me. I imagine Dr. Kezirian and his team had a lot to do with that !) I have now had the device for over a year, and my sleep apnea is well under control. The Good Doctor and his team have been a life saver, and I cannot say enough about his exceptional approach to patient care. I came to this appointment hoping for a thoughtful rhinology evaluation, a careful review of my imaging, and an evidence-based discussion about what recovery might realistically look like. I scored 7/40 on the UPSIT, which was already difficult enough to process. What upset me far more was the way the prognosis was communicated. I was told that recovery from traumatic smell loss is "very, very, very, very rare," that smell training is primarily helpful for viral smell loss, and that my cribriform plate had essentially "razored" my olfactory nerves. Those are extraordinarily frightening things to tell someone who is only seven weeks into recovery, particularly before my actual imaging had been meaningfully reviewed with me. I am a clinical scientist. I do not expect physicians to give false reassurance, and I am fully capable of hearing difficult medical information. What I do expect is precision, context, and acknowledgment of uncertainty when the underlying injury cannot actually be seen or confirmed from the information available. There is a tremendous difference between discussing possible mechanisms of traumatic anosmia and speaking as though irreversible nerve destruction has already been established. I came in looking for medical guidance. I left feeling as though a permanent outcome had been pronounced over me. Patients with brain injuries are already dealing with an enormous amount physically and emotionally. The language used in these appointments matters. You can be scientifically honest without removing every ounce of hope from someone who is still very early in recovery. I'm seeking another opinion.

I was 30 with 2 new babies , exhausted and extremely overwhelmed with what was going on . And with a lack of diagnosis ! I just needed to get well for my family! And I knew I was a more difficult case to deal with . He's used to patients that are elderly , I know because I take my 88 year old grandfather to the same Office! Anyways , I do not recommend him! I found the perfect neurologist and neurosurgeon for myself . I had many teeth extracted because Dr. Patel said it all needed to be handled with my dentist , then I did and the Pain And symptoms I had were worse. I went back to Dr. Patel and heard Yet Again that it is all in my head! But it was Not! I switched and went to a Hoag and found the perfect doctors for Myself. I had asked Dr. Patel on my last appointment if he thought it was Trigeminal Neuralgia since all the mouth surgery did not relieve my pain and made it worse and he disregarded me and always spoke To me like I was ignorant . But I DO have Trigeminal Neuralgia and I just went through a brain surgery a couple weeks ago! And with all the very kind specialists at Hoag they even Showed me the artery compressing the nerve and I broke down crying because I finally felt like I had credibility and I was being taken seriously unlike with my year of torture with Dr. Patel. I'm convinced that those were special cases that may not have worked out specifically for that person. I found Dr. Mani to be so charming, lovely, kind and caring. He listened to my issue with zero judgement, genuine concern and yes, there is a fee but he's a medical doctor who needs to be paid for his time and service. Any bonehead should know that. I am just waiting for one personal matter to be done in my life before I go back to him for help at the end of this month but as of right now, I am fully convinced that he will be able to help. He and his team provided me with step by step instructions and even a number where I can text for assistance at any time. I'm unsure what anyone else is looking for in a doctor but so far, I feel Dr. Mani has met every need that I was seeking in my ear, nose and throat doctor.

My Mom who can't walk well tried to look but got back in the car. I was still looking for the suite when I was told the doctor would not see her. When I got o the office I asked to speak to a manager which NEVER happened. After that I lost my temper. Rules are rules however when you are dealing with humans there should always be exceptions. This is NOT how you treat seniors who don't really understand what's going on. Not once did they address mother and ask if she was OK or needed anything or to assist in rescheduling. I had a comprehensive hearing test before meeting with Dr Shohet to discuss my condition. I cannot praise this practice enough from the initial checking in to checkout. The whole process was extremely professional and the staff were very polite and courteous. Regarding my appointment with Dr Shohet he diagnosed fluid in my middle ear and drained it before inserting a new tube. We both agreed I needed to review my current hearing aids (which I had obtained from a major retailer) as I have moderate to severe hearing loss. I am looking to schedule an appointment with the audiology department and feel very confident they will address my issues going forward.
