3.8/5 I am from an immigrant family who had to work for the family business at a very young age. Their daughter took our order and it was a very humbling moment. Children are not meant to be perfect so I won't critique the ordering process. I asked for a few menu items but they weren't available at that time (we came one hour before closing) so we just stuck with ordering a whole chicken with 3 sides. For our sides, we ordered 2x yucca and 1x fried rice. The fried rice was DELICIOUS!! A teeensy but salty but I'd prefer that over having bland fried rice. The yucca was a bit too over cooked and dry. The chicken itself was also a bit dry. This place isn't near our neighborhood and we just happened to be around when we ordered. I don't think we would go back again just to order but I encourage you all to still try this place! Maybe come during prime time to see if the quality is better? read more

Found them through IG from local foodies and I had to come back for more. The chicken was very juicy and flavorful both inside and out. The yuca is amazing! it was the right amount of crispness and it wasn't dry! I would say this is a hidden gem and more people should try it out! read more

Chicken is very good. I liked the green sauce and the white sauce was a little inconsistent. One was thick and other was watery but it still tasted good. The sides are not that great, it a bit better would be 5 stars. We actually spruced up the black beans and I recooked fries. Fried yucca was just ok and fried rice also just ok. I think I have found my new go to place for Peruvian chicken in the area! A Peruvian coworker recommended this place so fiancé and I decided to check it out for dinner. We typically get 1/4 dark meat chicken for ourselves but we decided to get the whole chicken deal that they have for $25. With the whole chicken, you get 3 large sides and a 2L soda bottle. We ate half in the restaurant and saved the rest for lunch the next day. Not many places do white meat chicken well but Max's knocked it out of the park! The white meat was so juicy and flavorful and did not taste dry or overcooked! The fries, yucca, and plantains that we got were equally as good! Also, if you dine in, they give you the big condiment sauce bottles instead of the small containers! The parking lot is a little hard to get into but definitely take yourself here! read more

So first let me say that my go to place for rotisserie chicken is all the way in Arlington from POLLO RICO... yes OG place ... Let's just say that I may no longer need to do it ever again .... Yup Max's is so much better in so many ways ... Let's just say, you no longer need to feel bad for asking for more sauces because they bring out a bottle of each sauce for you to use to your hearts content. So that is a major plus for me :-) Another thing that makes this place better is that you have more options for sides than from PR. And another plus is the price .... the price is a bit lower than other places. And last but not least ... the star of the meal ... the chicken, it's so damn good !!! So moist and so flavorful and cooked just right and not overly done. The flavor on this chicken isnt just on the skin but goes deep into the meat itself so every bite is enjoyable and full of flavor . Great little gem of a place! Very clean & food is great. I ordered 1/4 of a chicken with double fried yuca for $7.99. Prices are hard to beat & portions are pretty generous. Chicken is very well cooked. Skin & the meat is flavorful & moist. Only setback is that it is very salty. Yucas were delicious. Crispy on the outside & fluffy on the inside. I LOVE the sauces! I got double chicken with yucca to go with salchipapas. The salchipapas were nothing special and pretty uneventful over all. The chicken on the other hand was flavorful and juicy. So good for the money. And everything is really well prepared. Went there at 7:00 just as fresh chicken was coming out of the oven, it makes the whole place smell great. The quarter chicken with dark meat is super flavorful, it doesn't really need any help from the aji and green sauce, but those are really tasty too. I had a few different sides, the beans are pretty standard but the rice is basically Chinese style fried rice and completely delicious on its own. I also really like the thick steak fries. The service is friendly and pretty quick, though I managed to arrive between batches of chicken and had to wait 15 minutes. But it was so good that it was totally worth it. The only thing this place needs is a little help with the decor. Pretty much just an open room, not much decoration, and kind of harsh light and repetitive salsa music. I wanted to love this place because it's super close by but it's just okay. I got a whole chicken with steamed veggies, fried rice and yucca fries. Everything's cooked in the back where you can't see, so I couldn't tell if the food was just reheated. The veggies looked like those bagged frozen veggies and yucca fries were a bit hard. The place could use an upgrade. My go to is Super Chicken in Tyson's and I can see why it's a local favorite when compared. I prefer places that spin the chicken where you can see it and the sides served in front of you. It was Saturday evening during dinner time and the place was quiet. I have called ahead and asked for two piece dark meat as half a chicken. And they confirmed it. When I got there, they gave me two 1/4 dark in two different boxes, trying to charge me that. How can I finish two boxes? Of course not. I asked them to change it the way I ordered it. They gave me one white and one dark, said that they can't give me two dark. I have been to so many places and they would never say no to my requests. Giving 2 stars is because the food is good. Price has gone up so I won't come back again, it used to cost me less than $11. Max's is a quick-ready Counter service restaurant serving no-frills Peruvian rotisserie chicken with a family takeout special where $23.99 gets you a succulent whole rotisserie chicken, three sides, and a 2 L of soda. I'm not sure what it is about Peruvian chicken that makes me a fan, but whatever that quality is --Max's chicken has it in spades. I usually prefer the succulent dark meat of thigh and drumstick and avoid the infamously dryer white meat. However I have recently changed my tune. I have become a huge fan of the family special whole chicken (what a bargain!) and find that Max' s roasts the bird in a special way to preserve the moisture in the chicken breast. It was so juicy and delicious, I didn't even fight my husband over the second chicken leg quarter! The restaurant offers some other options such as breaded fried chicken (Suprema de Pollo), Steak cooked with onions and tomatoes served over linguine pasta (Tallarin Salgado) and aguadito soup--- maybe one day I will try them. But for now I skip past these options every time in favor of the delicious rotisserie chicken with the green sauce, rice and black beans!! read more

Very satisfying meal. Ordered 2 chickens and 4 sides. Chicken was very juicy and delicious. As the sides we got yuca, black beans, fried rice and fried plantains. All the portions were very generous in size and they gave us plenty of sauces. Staff wears masks and gloves. We took take out our order was right on time, I even saw the pack the freshly cooked chicken. There are a few tables inside and out very spaced out for social distancing.. Not a lot of Peruvian chicken places in Fairfax so when I saw this one pop up I was excited to try it. Straight to the point, this place is good. I would say one of the best places in Fairfax, but not one of the best in northern Virginia. The chicken is seasoned well, the yuca was flaky and fried well, and the plantains were not too sweet. It's been a hot minute since I've reviewed another Peruvian Chicken place. Fact, peruvian chicken places have been the most reviewed "type" of restaurant of my Yelp career. To say that I know my Peruvian Chicken is arrogant, but true. Forgive me, humility is not my forte. Now Max, oh Max. Several things that Max does right by me: 1) Hot and juicy chicken right off the press. It is always a little concerning when you show up at 12pm and there's no one else in there (many people came through after I ordered) and you order some chicken - you fear that it'll be overcooked and dry to the bones because of the lack of traffic. Fear not, I got a hot and juicy chicken. 2) Yucca that is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. However, there were a few pieces that seemed to have gotten recycled back into the fryer. Most were perfect, but a few tasted like they had gone through the ringer a few times and were stiff as eff on the inside. No bueno. 3) Okay, who is the genius at Max's that decided to give bottles of white and green sauce for table-side use. No other Peruvian chicken place does this. If Max's wants to blow up, they can certainly do so just based on the fact that eating in gets you unlimited* (I'm sure they will balk if you use a whole bottle and ask for more, unless you're eating two whole chicken) white and green sauce. There's not much bad to say about Max. Max knows what he's doing (or is Max a female? Unisex name!). Anyways, Max's Chicken should be on your radar if you're looking for Peruvian Chicken in the Fairfax area. The only place that comes close is "Super _____" in the Tyson's area. Okay, now here's your Yelp Elite tip. Because you get unlimited* white and green sauce, you can throw it on your salad, black beans, or whatever other side you want with no shame. I'm all about healthy black beans for the extra protein (need them gainz), but adding some white sauce to the black beans made for some extra tasty beans. TL;DR: Unlimited white and green sauce is the real kicker here. But don't let that fact alone make you think their chicken and yucca sucks, because it doesn't! Wait a few months and there will be a new Taiwanese gem of a dessert place opening up a couple doors down. A combo-breaker that you won't regret - peruvian chicken lunch/dinner followed by a Taiwanese dessert. read more

One of my old go-to spots was actually El Pollo Rico in Arlington. Unfortunately, I no longer live or work nearby so I don't visit that area often. Max's Chicken is closer and more convenient compared to El Pollo Rico. The level of quality is just as great so this is my new go-to spot for Peruvian chicken. Their yuca here is also one of my favorites in the NoVa area. Not a lot of seating inside but perfect for small groups between 2-4. We were still curious about 2 other items on the menu and their prices so to avoid further annoying the cashier we asked her if there was a menu with all the prices. A great find! Stopped by for lunch and wasn't expecting to find this little restaurant in the corner of a small complex. Not easily seen from the street, but definitely worth a stop if you're hungry. Max's has one of the best authentic braised chicken I've had. perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. Sides aren't bad either. A quarter chicken and hefty two sides for about $7. Not bad! This place is by far the best and most authentic Peruvian spot I have ever been to. The pollo is always so juicy, fresh and tender. They are so generous and give you big bottles of green and yellow sauce (instead of most places who give you two little cups and charge $0.25 for every additional), this place actually lets you enjoy your food that you pay for to the fullest. Also, everyday they have a special menu where you have options like causa, lomo saltado, arroz chaufa etc... and it is so authentic. Nothing beats this place I kid you not.
