I came here primarily because I heard they had lots of vegan options on their food menu, not because of their drinks. So to get this quickly out of the way: Their drinks selection is great. Lots of good beer to choose from, good ciders, and great local breweries. Their food, unfortunately, was disappointing. It was pretty pricey given the portion sizes and honestly there was nothing special about it - I feel like it was all stuff I could have made at home (with my amateur cooking skills). I really liked the vegan Asian pancakes, though! That was probably my favorite thing on the menu. One thing I really like was that they had plenty of vegan options and they were all clearly labeled. Also, the service was super quick! Our food was out in like 5 minutes and this was during a time where they were pretty busy. I would come here for the casual, fun, dog friendly atmosphere and to split a few beers with some friends. But if you're coming purely for the vegan food you'll be disappointed. I was a little confused on where to order food from when I arrived at Motorco, but my friend explained that it is a music hall with an attached area to order food from. I'd like to come back again when they have live music! I liked that there are long wooden tables for outdoor seating and plenty of space to park our stroller and baby carseat. A few food trucks lined the street but you can walk up to the Parts & Labor counter to order food. My friend shared his canuck poutine ($6) with us and this was easily my favorite dish of the night---creamy gravy + squeaky curds =amazing. I would come back to order 2 of these again. My husband and I also tried the Moto-Banh (roasted pork loin, pickled veggies, jalapenos on a baguette, $8) and the chicken shawarma pita ($6). Given all the raving reviews, the food actually fell short of my expectations. The tuna slider was good but I wouldn't come back just for it. The brussel sprout salad was raw and not roasted, which I expected it to be. The poutine was also underwhelming and kind of bland. I would say the only redeeming factor is the ambiance - lots of outdoor seating (dog friendly too) and perfect for enjoying a meal outdoors. The server came over and just picked it up and put it away without saying anything. We would have been happy to move it or put it away if he had asked nicely. We enjoyed a Saturday afternoon in the wonderful transitional weather when outdoor eating makes a comeback in the Triangle. The patio is concrete like a car lot or service shop because that's what this place used to be when Durham was a baby. It's strung up with lights and fans if you can get covered seating and is very spacious. Not thrilled about being around smoking but when I'm eating though. #vapingsnyone? It's a great place for dogs to chill and there were several young kids there as well. It all started out extremely promising and a 4 star experience. I enjoyed my Rigsbee (named after the street it's on) with a tallboy of orange beer and tequila. That is probably my favorite drink now. I like the Asian fusion items. They remind me of the food from Lucha Tigre one of my favorite places in Chapel Hull. I had the crispy tofu bahn mi and the soba noodle salad and both were very good and generous. The portion sizes vary quite a bit from item to item and some items might be substantially bigger and others puny and you can't tell from the price what you're going to get because they are all similarly priced. If you are seriously hungry then go with what I had. I couldn't even finish it. My husband's lunch is where it all went wrong. He got a bulgogi taco which was good but tiny! He also ordered chicken wings but when he took a bite out of one, it was cold inside. Not cool and not safe though I imagine these are pre cooked anyway. That was just nasty. He took them back and informed the bartender but he just said okay and took them. No apologies at all. They brought out some more wings but it's hard to eat when you had the same thing served to you improperly cooked minutes before. The kitchen staff who brought it out also did not apologize. They didn't offer to take the price of the chicken off either. Just not cool. We threw away the second batch after being grossed out. P&L does an incredible job with a small kitchen, turning out a variety of great food that is consistently good. Highly recommend the tuna slider - perfectly prepared tuna and a heck of a bargain. The noodle salad was my favorite and the slider was great, but next time I'll probably try the chicken & waffle or the latkes. YUM. Great for sharing with a group so you can try everything, and it actually feels like healthy food. Sitting outside is always fantastic when the weather is balmy and beautiful at 7pm. The little lights twinkle above you, there are puppies to pet and people to watch. You can always go play ping pong across the street afterward for a perfect low-key date night or chill evening with your roommates. It's located in the bar adjacent to Motorco Music Hall. The bar is really spacious with high ceilings. It definitely looks like it was renovated from a former auto shop. The food is very food truck-style. It's like tapas with reasonable serving sizes and served in disposable containers. Much better than typical bar food! I tried the cucumber salad for some greenery. It's pre-made so they couldn't remove the cilantro. I love ginger and liked the rice vinegar vinaigrette. I also ordered the chicken in a waffle. Yeah, you read that right. It's like chicken nuggets in a Sriracha-honey sauce served in a waffle cone. Very tasty! Would totally order that again. There is lots of seating from benches to high tables to booths. There are a few different levels, too. The patio was huge and shady on an early summer afternoon. There are some cornhole boards on the side; the bean bags are in a plastic bin on the edge of the patio. It's a great place for groups and has a good beer selection. Accepts credit cards. I love Parts & Labor. It's like the owners & managers actually read customer comments and acts to correct any shortcomings. This place is definitely a 5 star place in my books for the quality of food you get for the price. The kitchen staff are good, I highly recommend checking out their specials. One time I had the fried NC drum with cheddar cheese grits special and it was out of the park good at a wallet-friendly $7. Their portion sizes have toned down a bit. Their banh mi used to be stuffed with a generous serving of pate and pork. Now it's more bun than filling. Flavor is still there (according to my husband, I've never had it). After eagerly reading through all the yelp reviews for Parts & Labor, I finally made it out here! And it was so worth the wait! I love the open concept of Parts & Labor (part of Motorco) particularly on days when it's beautiful outside but you don't necessarily want to sit out in the sun. It's nice that they have a large outdoor area, but I sat inside since it was a bit chillier when I was there. You really just need to look over the menu/drink list, walk up to the bar and order. They'll cash you out and give you a number to bring to wherever you sit. It's really just that simple. I was very impressed with the variety and selection of the menu and that its all small plates style. i like ordering a bit of everything to really get a feel for a place and so this just worked out perfectly! Now, I am always skeptical when it comes to Korean fusion foods because I've grown up with Korean food and believe it's best at just that--no need to change a thing! But I thought I'd go ahead and step out of my comfort zone and try their bulgogi taco... and it left me wanting actual Korean food.. so not the best. I think the meat was marinated well but it reminded me more of a galbi flavor as opposed to bulgogi; but I'm not complaining in this department because galbi is awesome! So the meat was good, yay! I think where the huge disconnect was the kimchi slaw they attempted to put together. Maybe I read it wrong? Maybe I just wanted some of my mom's kimchi? But it just was not working for me, but again, that's me. I also ordered the artichoke beignets and was surprised to find that they were more like artichoke hushpuppies as they were more dense rather than light and airy. But still, they were awesome! My friend ordered the hipster poutine (again another Korean fusion dish) and I tried it and was not a fan. If cheese and bulgogi beef sound good to you, then by all means order it! That was really my only complaint as I find that flavor combination to not really mesh well together (especially cheddar cheese...) The service was great and with a convenient location with lots of parking, I'll definitely be back. Although I wasn't a huge fan of what I ordered, I still saw a lot of other dishes I'd like to check out AND have heard that they're delicious as well. Definitely a cool place to have a drink. While waiting for my car inspection, my wife and I stopped at Parts & Labor to have a drink and some tapas. Although I'm not a huge fan of tequila, I ordered The Rigsbee. It's basically a grapefruit hefeweizen with a shot of tequila mixed in. Your served the drink in a glass, and they give you the beer to mix in as you drink. The drink was really good, but I could taste the tequila. My wife, who is a huge fan of tequila, loved the drink! Next time we go, she'll definitely be ordering The Rigsbee. My wife's Motonica was a gin and tonic with their homemade tonic. It was really light and fresh, almost like drinking a lemonade. We also ordered Veggie samosas, which were Indian pastries filled with potatoes, onions, peas, and cilantro with a tomato chutney. They were great! The tomato chutney was especially good, and complimented the samosas well. We had a falafel as well, which was equally delicious. I'm a sucker for anything Mediterranean, and it did not disappoint. My new favorite restaurant in Durham, which says something given its vibrant dining scenes. The place is probably best described as a cross between a gastro-pub and small plates, though I like to use the phrase American Dim Sum. Been there twice in the last week and love it, this review combines both meals. The highlights -- Chorizo Hash (only available on weekends). A nice size portion, very tasty. Lots of chorizo but not too spicy. -- Churrasco slider. Probably my favorite dish. A very substantial and tender piece of steak perfectly complimented by the sauce. -- Pint of mussels. Some of the best mussels I ever had. In itself, a reason to go. -- Fries. The fires are very crisp and not greasy. -- German pretzels. My kids won't let me have any but it looked great and really want to try the cheese dipping sauce. -- Chicken Wings. Nice size wings and really liked the "motor oil" sauce that came on it -- Fried oyster salad. I don't like fried oysters but my wife loved them and felt they worked perfectly with the granny smith based salad Good but not super incredible -- Ahi slider. Normally love tuna and it was good but a little lost with all the sauce and bun. -- Potato latkes. Good but not the best I had, really liked the apple sauce that came with it. -- Chicken in waffle, Chicken was tasty, spicier than I expected, It was not listed as highlights as it was in a waffle cone (like an ice cream cone) and I was expecting more of a breakfast waffle Ones I would pass on -- Moto-banh. Biggest disappointment to me. It didn't have much flavor (granted I took off the jalapenos). Nice piece of pork but nothing interesting. Last thing is that for a pub atmosphere, you will probably end up spending more than you anticipate. Parts & Labor was a genius addition to the DIY district, a food truck heavy spot that houses Durham's infamous Fullsteam Brewery and is on many locals "MUST DO" list when visit Durham! Most people are used to the tapas idea when coming to the DIY district already since most meals come from Food Trucks, so Part & Labor joined that band wagon and they've been going strong since. Now, I know we all love food trucks, but we can also probably all agree that while delicious, the prices are a little high for getting food out of a truck. Parts & Labor has been able to lower their prices that one or two extra dollars you'll pay at the food truck and still produce mouth watering treats. Parts & Labor went into Motorco's back bar and since then they have totally transformed the space. Adding additional seating, fancy lighting and many more tables in general. The atmosphere is very casual as you order at the bar (or restaurant window) and food is brought to your table (it's quick too!) Motorco provides the libations (not my favorite beer selection) while Parts & Labor provides the food (do note, you can always get food to go and bring it next door to FullSteam). I highly recommend the artichoke beignets (they are so fluffy, fried and are a huge portion, easily split between 3-4 people). I loved that the lettuce wraps had a subtle coconut flavor (cooked with coconut oil I believe) but even better were the falafels (two per serving), GOD, they are a MUST! The flavors are subtle at first and then explode in your mouth, ma ma mia, they're great! The best component of Parts & Labor is its location and makeup. It used to be a garage and it's plain to see that. It's as reminiscent as it can be of it. The location is great because it's a part of old downtown Durham. Anything old is excellent and to my liking. The bar is typical. The bartenders are ok; they're not rude but they're not joyous to see you either. The food is street which I love. Another great component is the "patio." There are plenty of high tables & long bench tables along the street. If I lived in the dirty D (Durham is the locale of my stomping grounds, so I may call it that), I'd definitely frequent this place. It's hip. Located in the old Motorco concert space, they've turned what used to be a garage into a hangout space with a bar and a few booths and tables, with stools that become exquisitely uncomfortable after a couple of hours. It's a cool vibe with a really distinctive small bites menu that ranges from Southern soul (baked beans with chipotle and bourbon--add pork belly for $2 more) to Asian (lettuce wraps with shredded chicken, lemongrass and chilis) to South American (churrasco sliders with chimichurri sauce) to vegetarian (some tofu crap I wouldn't even consider). Everything I've tried was really good with lots of flavor--don't miss out on the pint of mussels either. All the food items are priced $3 - $8. Two would actually make a decent meal--the sliders are smallish, but the fries and baked beans are a good size for a side. The mussels are a pretty good-sized dish as well. Went for my second time last night with a group and the biggest hit was the churrasco sliders--everyone ordered more of those. The beer on tap is a bit limited, but they have plenty of horse whizz American garbage beer in bottles if that's your thing. They also have a pretty good selection of top-shelf liquors. I really like this place, but when it gets busy the bar staff can get a little overwhelmed (they aren't quite up to the crowd management level of, say, Bull McCabe's yet) and service/close out slows down so be aware and plan accordingly. read more

I love this place. It's going to be so hard to try other places all the way in Durham because now I feel like if I am in Durham I have to eat at P&L! I usually am not a fan of places that do global, but these folks have somehow mastered it! I have tried the sesame udon salad, tofu banh, veggie samosas, and french fries. I have no complaints about any of these dishes, I especially loved the sesame udon salad. I thought the samosas would be awkward tasting but even they were good, and the tomato chutney was delicious! They managed to get the potatoes really soft which I loved. If you go for the tofu banh, I would recommend adding sriracha mayo because it was kind of dry (and the sriracha mayo was delicious). They had a good selection of beers on tap and they have an AMAZING patio. Even though it was crowded, you will definitely find a place to sit. Since discovering Parts & Labor about 2/3 months ago, I've probably been here 10 times. I haven't had a bad or less than great experience once and a big part of that is the company I've been with. It is the kind of place you want to go to with friends (or family if they're cool) and I think that plays a big part in why I enjoy it. The service at the bar has always been great for me. I have ordered food every time I've been here so I never actually order at the bar, but at the side register instead. I've never had an issue with my orders or paying and the staff has always been prompt and friendly. Now the real reason this place gets the coveted 5th star is because of the food. Really because of the Seared Tuna Slider which I continue to rank as one of the best sandwiches in the triangle. I don't care that it's $7 from a single slider, if you know food, you know this is worth the price. Other items I've really enjoyed include the cheeseburger slider, duck confit spring rolls, canuck poutine and the fries. The menu is really unique and well executed for any bar establishment. The atmosphere here is also great. I love the open communal seating outside and in. This is one of the few places that actually pulls it off and gets different groups of people to interact with each other. This is also a very dog friendly joint, evident by the number of dogs you'll see here on any given night. The food comes out in a paper dish-but don't let that turn you off because the taste overpowers the presentation! The banh Mi is made with pate (it's a little stinky) but tastes like heaven! The flavor of the burger was amazing but we didn't care for the bread. It was too thick for a slider and kind of took away from the bite. We also had another sandwich, I think it was the bahn mi, and it had good flavor as well. Still didn't care for the bread and the sandwich tasted much better when we added siriacha. Service: the line was ridiculously slow even though inky 2 people were ahead of me but once I placed my order the service was quick! Within 3 minutes of me sitting at an indoor table - my food arrived Environment: it was a nice warm evening. I set N side to watch the Playoffs on the large queen but it was equally comfortable outside. Food: the costs are so affordable ... I'm just thinking of how expensive the food would be back home (SF Bay Area). I bought a cheeseburger slider ($3) and the pork slider ($5) and fries (3). I could do without the fried pork slider . Great food and an even better location. Don't let a line to order scare you off - the food came out very fast so it was worth a short wait. Lots of tasty small plate options - our favorites were the samosa and sliders. read more

Absolutely delicious!!! I don't know why I haven't eaten here before! Came here for lunch during the week. Quick drive from RTP. Food came out so fast it will make your head spin!
