I'm almost afraid to post a positive review because I want to keep this vet all to myself. Take my word with a grain of salt because 1) I've only had one visit and 2) I'm coming from a nightmare situation from TLC in South Pasadena. The front worked diligently to get TLC records, albeit only receiving a couple of pages from them (no joke!!) with repeated requests. I met both doctors, including the owner. He is kind and considerate. Prices were reasonable - some half the cost that TLC charges AND with more sophisticated procedures/analysis. Once the vet at TLC walks out of the room, attempting to get info to her is like a rat running through a dead end maze. At Pas Pets, I mentioned to the front desk that I forgot to ask for an anti-flea prescription and special diet prescriptions (about 5 or so!). There were NO mishaps, no wasted time. I couldn't believe how frustration free this was. Can you imagine assuming that the opposite was the norm? I love that this doesn't feel like a chain (unlike TLC - can you just tell I'm so over that place?!?). And your eyeballs don't get gouged with walk-ins. THAT option alone is enough to keep me coming back. The only downside to that is you'll wait depending on the severity, which is completely appropriate. And did I mention the front desk carried my baby into the Uber vehicle AND fastened the seat belt through the carrier handle while I was on crutches? read more

When I brought my cat Cheetoh in, he was on the verge of death. Dr. Christina Fan immediately knew how to handle the situation and provided the proper treatment needed to give him the best chance of recovery. She sat down with me and went into detail on his situation and was very patient in answering all my questions.Throughout the day the hospital allowed me to call for updates and even speak to her directly as well. Because of Cheetoh's condition, he had to be transfered to a 24 hour specialized hospital and Dr. Fan continued to call the hospital and myself to follow up on his condition. I've very thankful for her because now Cheetoh is back to his normal and we know what to do to help him live his remaining 8 lives. read more

I'm sure that the veterinary care that my beloved cat received at Pasadena Pets was adequate, albeit definitely overpriced. But I was consistently shocked by the inefficiency, idiocy, and rudeness of this place, particularly from their front office staff, and when my cat passed, I was straight up appalled by the complete and total lack of sympathy that I received from the staff at Pasadena Pets, including from the veterinarians. My cat was on subcutaneous injections during the last months of her life, and it was next to impossible to get this costly prescription refilled in any convenient or reliable way from the staff at Pasadena Pets. Whenever I would call to get a refill, the front office staff would have no idea what I was talking about, would grow annoyed at the complexity of my prescription or my questions, or would put me on hold for long stretches of time and let the call drop. As a result, it would take days to get the prescription adequately refilled. Sometimes I would show up to pick up the prescription, and nothing would even be prepared, causing me to have to wait for another 30 mins in the office. It was no better when I would request a refill online (I didn't even know this was possible until one of the front office staff rudely told me that I would have better luck if I made my refill online). When I would request an online refill, aspects of the prescription would not be refilled or would be over-filled, and I'd have to make corrections in-office in order to avoid being overcharged. Other times, the syringes that I would need were not even in stock, and I would have to order them separately online. These injections were keeping my cat alive and improving her quality of life during her final days, so not being able to get this prescription filled in time was difference between life and death. Other times, the front office staff would give me totally inaccurate information about how to inject my cat and draw fluids from the bag, and I'd have to demand to speak with a technician in order to get a correct and clear answer. Keep in mind, I was injecting fluids beneath my cat's skin everyday; this was no easy task for me (I'm afraid of needles!), but I was desperate to help my cat in whatever way possible. The least they could've done was be helpful!!!! When she did finally pass (at home, thankfully), I sent an email to her veterinarian letting her know she had died, but I NEVER EVEN GOT A RESPONSE. Right before she died, I had also set up an appointment for later that week since her health was rapidly declining, so I also called to cancel this appointment. The staff person I spoke to at the time didn't express any condolences whatsoever. There wasn't even sorrow in her voice. She simply said, "Oh yeah, the appointment has already been canceled. That account has been classified as inactive."CLICK. "THAT ACCOUNT HAS BEEN CLASSIFIED AS INACTIVE." No, I'm never taking my pets here for care again. read more

This has to be the slowest most unprofessional vet I have ever come to and I will definitely never come back. First of all I came in to have the dogs nails trimmed and they end up telling me I need to make this a walk in appointment because the dogs nails were extra long. I tell them that's fine and end up waiting another hour before they even start doing anything,l. Another 30 minutes goes by and I've now seen about 4-5 other dogs come and go already. They continue to tell me the doctor will be out to talk to me in 5 minutes. The doctor didn't come out for another 35 minutes and at this point i'm furious as i've been here waiting for 2 hours with no update on my dogs condition. I will never be back here. read more

They used to be a very good veterinarian but the past couple years their availability and customer service has gone downhill. They are basically by appointment only so if you just want vaccines and checkups, they can accommodate you. But even with an appointment your wait can be up to an hour before you see anybody. If you have an urgent issues, they usually say "no walk ins". As far as customer service goes, they are friendlier when you are there in persom but dismissive and short (boarding on rude) when you call on the phone. read more

The husband and I recently moved from the Bay Area and were very lucky to be guided here via Yelp! Reviews. We came back from traveling and found that our Puggle had a hematoma in his ear from playing to rough with his Husky buddy. We called in at 9:00 am and Andrea instructed as to come in and quickly got us set up for an appointment with Dr. Michelle. We are extremely impressed by this Veterinary Hospital everyone is extremely friendly here and they have a large amount of staff. Andrea, Jesse, Melissa and Dr. Michelle have truly made this experience a very smooth one. It is very difficult to find a trusted Vet and we are so lucky that the front office staff are very capable as well. I feel often you either get a good Doctor and a terrible front office or vice versa (maybe we have just been unlucky with vets). He was taken care of immediately. Dr. Michelle has wonderful bedside manner. Very attentive to our Puggle and informative to the worrying parents. She also did warn us that there is sometime a need to go in again due to the blood not fully draining. Before the procedure the the estimate was laid out and we were given the possibly range of cost. There was a low and a high amount. He was in around 11:00 am and out around 3:00 pm. The next day Dr. Michelle followed up with us with a call and even asked us to send photos of his ear if we had any issues. We brought him in for his follow up and everything is going smoothly. I've had a pretty good experience here at the Pasadena Vet. Staff here is helpful and courteous, and I feel like they care about my dog. This event is located off of Foothill Boulevard, it's inside a plaza so you can barely see the sign from the road. There is some parking out front, but not a lot. The lobby is a reception desk on the left side of the room and two benches on the right. There, I usually check in at the desk, wait for about 20 minutes, until someone checks on my dogs weight, and then has he's seen in another room. The first person to come in checks my dogs vitals, and then the doctor comes in to assess what is wrong with my dog. Pretty routine. Prices are not cheap, but they never really are for animals. The last check up I had included flea medication and medicine for his paw came out to 200+ dollars. read more

Our dear Wally cat started feeling ill after we returned from a weekend trip. He was in and out of his litter box over 10 times in a row and nothing was happening. We immediately took him in when the vet first opened without an appointment and they were able to accommodate us right away. We saw Dr. Christina Fan and she was so kind (Wally loved her!!) and put us at ease while giving us all the information we needed. She prescribed a medicine for Wally and he seemed to progressively get better over 2 days. After 2 days, the symptoms came back and we (as first time pet owners) freaked out and took him back to the vet. Again as a walk in, they were able to accommodate us even though it was a super busy Saturday. This time we saw Dr. Michelle and she was so great with Wally. She sat and explained the possibilities of what it could be and was able to prescribe a new food for him to decrease stress. It worked!!! Though we ended up spending around $300 total for both visits, the second time around, they only charged us a "follow up brief check up" fee instead of full price. I appreciated that. A few days later we received a call from Dr. Wu and she was just calling to check up on Wally. I thought that was so nice of her! I really love how much the doctors here care about animals and I feel so much better knowing my pet is in good hands. :) Thank you! read more

My response to Dr. Stan: It is not only the customer service that was not up to par. It was the information or lack of information that you gave me TWICE. Regarding the corticosteroid (Temaril) you gave Tiki, it was a one time medication, that I would never give Tiki again. You didn't ask me about side effects on Tiki. Why should I just tell you that Tiki reacted like any other dog, since it is a common side effect, which you failed to tell us about. Also, even if I called your office, to tell you of the side effect Tiki was experiencing, I can't just stop a steroid medication. I knew I had to slowly take TIki off Temaril, so what use would calling you have been? Like I told you in my email, if it was only that, which happened a year and a half ago, I would never have written my review. When your office said I can just pick up Triflexis, and I couldn't, that is when I decided to warn other pet users about your office's failure to give pet owners information. Tiki has been to your office for a teeth cleaning after his first office visit (where I stayed the entire time in your office waiting for Tiki - since he would be put under) and he has had a fecal and thyroid re-test less than a year ago (March 2013). That is when I picked up a year supply of Triflexis. This was without a heartworm re-test. If you cared so much about Tiki why would your office have given me a year's supply? Technically, I should have only been able to take another 6 months only. Tiki has an appointment with another office today so he can get a heartworm test and Triflexis. I am doing what is best for Tiki and it is insulting that you imply I am not just because I am not going into your office. Especially since I already told you I was doing so in my email to you. Also, your office had two chances to schedule Tiki for a heartworm test, they failed. It seems to me you are only sorry about my bad review and not that you failed me and Tiki twice. Please take some personal responsibility for your office and don't blame it all on me. read more

I had such a great experience here at Pasadena Pets this week. Granted, they were really busy for a Wednesday, but they were able to squeeze Kiki in for a (non-anesthetic) teeth cleaning, a physical, provided a courtesy nail trim and got all her shots in. Above it all though, Dr. Michelle Wu is genuinely amazing. She was very gentle with Kiki, our maltipoo, who was in absolute terror and trembling like a leaf. Dr. Wu was kind, professional, and went above and beyond to make me feel like Kiki was in good hands. She was super knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions and make me feel at ease with some of Kiki's slight abnormalities. She even called the next day to discuss her lab results with me! It's not everyday you meet someone who genuinely cares about your pet as much as you do. This will definitely be my primary place for any future pet needs. read more

Called, got an appointment right away no prob. And they take Care Credit. Score! Front desk- First time I walked in everybody was super friendly and kind. Now that I'm there a few times a week (subcutaneous fluid injections, awesome!) (not) (lol) I feel like Norm from Cheers everytime I walk in. They are FANTASTIC. Doctor- Doctor Michelle was super super sweet with Pablo, and really took the time to get to know him by touch talk and energy. Plus she listened to my crazy behind go on and on about P's eccentricities. She took them all into account. Test recommendations- she laid it out, found ways to save while still addressing what was necessary, and put no pressure on me. I found it easy to digest, and her energy never wavered from calm and kind. Doctor Michelle = #crushingdagame First round of treatments- all I gotta is the techs are beasts. Love beasts, skill beasts, just, rad. ----- Epilogue - Found out my little homie's CRF (Chronic Renal Failure) had worsened. Doctor Michelle followed up when she said she would, broke the news in a compassionate and direct way, and answered my 1,000 plus questions patiently. When I asked for different options for treatment, I didn't detect an ounce of judgement, just told me what I could do. I was going to learn how to do the IV he needs every other day on my own, but I just haven't gotten the hang of it. We had originally planned for me to go in and do it with them a couple of times. But... it's just me. And he hates it at home. And, he LOVES the attention and energy he gets from the lovely ladies and gents at PPV. PS MY CAT HATES THIS KIND OF **** NORMALLY. PPS they are totally cool with you being in the back with your pet, which will help your pet alot. SO GET YOUR SIMPLE BEHIND BACK THERE AND BE WITH YOUR FAMILY LOL! To conclude - I'm there three times a week for 15 minutes, they help me with the injection, sometimes they don't even charge me and when they do it's $8, and they are freaking super supportive and awesome the whole time. CONSUMERS BEWARE!!! I found PPVH through Groupon for my two dogs, one partially blind and traumatized. Services were good thus far until Dr. Stan Avez showed an ambivalent attitude towards the fact that the Third Party Company he hired that month charged my accounts multiple times in early October 2013. I canceled the services due to his ambivalent attitude toward the Protection of my Personal Financial Information and how he stated to either pay the contract in full or cancel services. Despite me providing him documentation/evidence that his company charged my accounts multiple times. In early October, at my request, Dr. Stan stated he canceled all of my personal financial information. I was relieved that I would not have to deal with him and his company again and I was OK with losing the $ that was not refunded to me from each of my credit cards. However, on November 1, 2013, the Third Party Company he hired to represent his business charged my account again. I had to re-issue my credit card and my debit card so that PPVH would not charge on my accounts again. There are two over all concerns that I have with PPVH and Dr. Stan Avez: 1) BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE: Dr. Stan was not concerned about his customer's personal financial information rather he responded with giving me a choice to pay the contract in full or cancel services despite his company charging me multiple times on my debit and credit card in October & after he said he deleted my information was charged again in November. The Veterinary Services were beneficial to the health of my dogs. But rather he was concerned about receiving the money and not concerned about the Protection of my Personal Financial Information or the time it took to correct it. 2) FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY & BAD FISCAL MANAGEMENT: I did Not authorized the multiple charges in early October 2013 and I requested all services to be canceled and all of my personal financial information to be deleted. Dr. Stan Avez said all of my information was deleted. However, his company charged me again on November 1, 2013 which was an Unauthorized charge. Dr. Stan's negligence for his customer's personal financial information has consumed a lot of time just to ensure that my financial information is protected. I work in Government and monitor and audit activities of non-profits and small businesses. I am also an advocate for the community and for consumers. Please be careful with this merchant as he neither was apologetic nor displayed any good business practices with regards to my personal financial information. I can say that his staff was excellent in the delivery of care for my two animals however PPVH is a small business with a top down management approach. I wouldn't entrust my personal financial information (i.e CREDIT CARDS) with him or his company or the Third Party Business he hired. read more

When they finally answer the person was unpleasantly , rude and short even after I explained that I had just adopted a new dog from the shelter and he is not eating! And she said to be booked until Tuesday !!! What who can wait that long when you have an issue with your animal!!! I love and trust this place! My dog came in for surgery after being diagnosed with a mass tumor cell! Dr.Michelle was so accommodating and informative about my Pit-Bull's situation that I really appreciate the fact that she got down on all four to meet my dog at eye level without even having to use a muzzle like the last vet I went to. I understand that it's policy and for their safety but it's a touching feeling when my dog is being treated for his health rather than being judged by his breed. She treated him with kindness and care that it shows how much compassion this place really has towards our pets! I love Pasadena Pets! Although it's a bit far from me, it's always worth the drive. I had my dog on a puppy plan here, and since she's long outgrown the plan, I still bring her back here for any other treatments she needs. Besides the puppy plan (Dr. Christina was awesome, by the way), I've needed the service of Pasadena Pets for a couple of situations. Firstly, I must say that they have great customer service. I've called in before asking for an email of a vaccination record, and they delivered immediately without any complications. Every time I come, the front desk workers are always very positive and welcoming toward me and my dog. They also have dog treats at the front desk, and the place is very clean! I once needed an X-ray for my dog as well, thinking that she might have swallowed a battery, and I called multiple vets to get quotes. Pasadena Pets ended up being the best and most cost-efficient option. I appreciate that! Dr. Stan was very helpful in telling me all the possibilities prior to the X-ray and was very transparent about costs for each possibility. Thankfully, my pup was fine! Most recently, I needed to update my dog's vaccinations. I again called multiple vets for quotes on vaccinations and found my way back to Pasadena Pets. I called first, and the staff member affirmed that I could walk in. I did, and I didn't wait at all (since I didn't need to wait for a doctor for the vaccinations). Perfect! $80 for three vaccinations (rabies, DHPP, Bordetella). They gave me the vaccination report on the spot. I've been very pleased with my experiences here and will probably keep finding my way back here for annual exams, vaccinations, emergencies, etc. Tip: Check in for a free nail trim! read more

While caring for a sick puppy (not mine). I noticed the pooch was unresponsive and the owner was not doing anything to help. I decided that it would be better to ask forgiveness than permission (from the owner) so I made the decision to seek medical attention for the pup. I have not owned an animal for a few years so I did not know where to turn. I call a local emergency pet clinic and believe it or not they referred me to Pasadena Pets VH. I called and the receptionist was great. They were taking walk-ins for another hour so I made it up there. Let me tell you the dog was really ill and I did not know what to do. I think owner's plan was to see if the dog would recover. I could not allow that to happen. Anyway, the staff was fantastic, the doctor was fantastic and even the patrons were fantastic! As I write this note I do not know if the puppy will survive, but they provided medications and offered suggestions for food that are actually working. I am thankful for this facility and know "when" I do get another pet exactly where I will take him or her... If Pasadena Pets actually reads these reviews, I hope they know that I appreciate what they do and how they cared for the pup and in some respects...me. read more

The vets here are so genuine and caring! Dr. Christina is my puppy's (and my) first vet, and while I was initially nervous because I was (am still) a pet noob, Dr. Christina was reassuring and instructive during every visit. She is extremely thorough and makes sure that Avery gets the treatment she needs, and always offers alternatives and suggestions that might better fit her. Dr. Christina is also extremely responsive and communicative--when she says she will send us results, she actually calls AND emails us with updates. Aside from great vets, this facility is also extremely clean and welcoming. For all of the dogs and cats that come in, the linoleum is surprisingly clean and shiny, and the waiting room is devoid of pee odor! I don't know how they do it, but I'd like to know their secret(s) someday. The receptionists are always nice with the pets, and have treats and water available for waiting patients. If you are bringing your baby pets in for the first time, definitely consider the care plans. I bought the puppy care package, which includes all the series shots and a number of tests and follow-up visits, and it was easy to schedule and handle everything because each step is planned out for you--extremely helpful for a first-time pet owner. Believe it. This place truly deserves its 5-star rating on Yelp. My previous vet's office (where I have brought all my dogs in the past 20 years) has become too far and inconvenient to drive to. I am glad I found Pasadena Pets Vet Hospital and Dr. Stan Avezov on Yelp. Dr. Stan is an extremely knowledgeable vet with an AMAZING bedside manner. He is thorough in explaining diagnosis, options, next steps, etc. Dr. Stan always calls back as soon as he is able and replies to all e-mails in a timely manner. Dr. Stan also follows up by calling to check-in and to deliver lab results. THANK YOU Dr. Stan and staff. Fees are reasonable for a "top notch" vet. (I have paid more at other facilities in the past but as all responsible dog owners know, pet ownership is never "cheap" which will include major vet expenses during the life of the pet.) Pros: + Short wait for appointments, and short wait in the lobby when the appointment time rolls around. + Treatment rooms are clean and bright, and have no discernible smell like some vets. + Staff are caring and gentle from what I've seen. + The vet has told me when he recommends using another specialist (i.e. a dog dental specialist) rather than himself. I used to find myself numbed by the bewildering array of veterinary choices. I was very disappointed about the vets that I took my pets to over the years. I honestly began feeling as though finding a vet that is honest, compassionate, skilled, and affordable is like looking for a needle in a haystack. It was such a blessing that I found Dr. Stan Avezov. He is everything I have been looking for in a veterinarian....professional, honest, compassionate, thorough, skilled, and pleasant. He never looked at me as just a client or my dog as just a patient--he took personal responsibility for my pet's well being and personally followed-up with me to make sure my dog is doing better and to find out if I have any additional questions. Aside from finding a really skilled veterinarian, I was so amazed by the fact that I actually found someone who is also really genuine and ethical--and won't run any unnecessary tests that would rack up my bill just to make some extra money. Dr. Avezov kindly explained all of my options and the treatment plan/course of action. He took excellent care of an emergency situation with my precious senior dog. This was the first time I encountered a situation where I really believed the life of my "baby" was truly in danger. Fortunately, Dr. Avezov made a quick and accurate diagnosis...gave my dog a series of two injections in the office as well as a prescription for several days, told me to keep her hydrated, and watch her closely. After Dr. Avezov's interventions, my dog was feeling better and wagging her tail a few hours later... I thank Dr. Avezov for my dog's full and rapid recovery. I will be forever grateful for all he has done for my pet. I have recommended Dr. Avezov to all my friends, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone I know looking for a top notch vet. I am confident that anyone that gives Dr. Avezov the opportunity to take care of their pet will be a faithful patron for life. We took our dog to a different vet at first because we got a free vet check with them (rhymes with Manfield). We didn't like the service there so we started the quest for a new vet. One day I knew I was going to be very busy and out of the house, so I wanted to drop my dog off at Doggy Day Camp, but she needed one more shot first. I called the old vet and they said that each time she comes in she has to have a full vet check (despite having just gone to that vet a few weeks ago). I turned to PPVH for help instead. They had a deal for new patients and their shot cost was much lower. Now I wish Yelp had like a comment section because I feel that there is a review that gives this place 1 star for a silly reason. No DOCTOR (vet or human) would ever do any procedure on you without having you go through a routine check up. That goes for this vet as well. My dog had just had a check up recently, but I understood that this is a new vet and they have to have a file on her to give her a shot. Had I just wanted to do shots there are plenty of clinics that will do just that. This is a vet though, so if you are a new patient they are going to check you out (just like every other doctor). Once they have you on file you can have a tech do the shots (unlike at the rhymes with Manfield which wants a full vet check each time). Day and night experience here with this vet compared to the other place. Here the vet was kind, not pushing expensive plans and tests, and she really put my dog at ease. She took the time to answer all my questions and made it feel like it was about the dog, not the money. I really appreciated that, especially that my dog seemed so relaxed. The service here beyond the vet is also super friendly. Everyone was polite, all loved animals, and took care of everything quickly for me. The space is also large and clean, which is amazing given that it is a vet's office. It feels very professional and well taken care of. Doing odds and ends for the dog between check ups is also a breeze. No need to see the vet for shots (tech can do that), just have to swing by to pick up more meds, and call if her shots have changed (we generally go to the SPCA low cost clinic for those). EASY! I found this vet through Yelp and decided to give them a try since they had the highest rating of any vet local to me. I definitely wasn't disappointed! This is actually one of the few places that live up to it's 5-star rating. As a pet owner and someone with a crazy schedule, it's not always easy to find a vet that's willing to make an appointment with little notice but it always seems like Dr Stan and his staff are able to work with me and fit me in. They've provided EXCELLENT service to my animals, they always seem to be concerned with what's best for my pets, and their prices are great. One example of the great service I got from Dr Stan was a week ago when one of my foster kittens was having uncontrollable bowel movements and lost almost all his weight over the course of a few days. He became extremely lethargic and was a shade of his former self. I was seriously scared this guy was going to die but Dr Stan and his staff took care of him for the day while I was at work, gave him fluids, bathed him, made sure his butt had warm compresses, and pretty much stabilized him. When I came to get him later that evening, the doctor gave me a few meds to give him, some meds to reduce the symptoms he was experiencing and some vitamins to keep him stable. He even followed up the next day by shooting me an e-mail and asking if the kitty was doing well. It's now a week later and the kitten has gained weight, no longer lethargic, and back to acting like a normal kitten! As someone who's had more than her fair share of different vets, I can honestly say that I don't think I'll ever need to search for another vet as long as I'm in the Pasadena area. read more

Let me preface this by saying that my family has jumped around from vet to vet for my entire life, never landing an honest or excellent facility...until now. For the past 6 years I had been taking my dogs to Foothill Veterinary Hospital. Begrudgingly so. They had all our dog history and I felt like it was a familiar place. After a long run of disappointments (mostly running tests and performing procedures without my permission and then charging me for it), a friend of mine recommended Pasadena Pets. We lost our dog Nora. Her brother fell ill immediately after losing his sister, so I took him to see Dr. Fan at Pasadena Pets. Let me just say that, as a consumer, you can tell a great deal about an establishment from the folks who run the front desk. In this case, the ladies/techs/nurses at the front desk of Pas Pets take the cake. They are incredibly kind and know every single person/pet walking through the door. As for the checkup with Dr. Fan: For the first time in 20 years, I had an actual conversation with my vet that didn't come across as a pitch for me to invest in some elusive product or procedure. And for the first time, no one tried to push the Kennel Cough vaccine on me (seriously, stop it), or a Wellness Package that I don't need. This isn't sales, this is life. For the first time, my love for my animal wasn't preyed upon in order to squeeze out an additional 100 bucks. Dr. Fan wrote up a list of options to discuss and we talked them through. She had to contact our previous vet because she needed to find out what was in a "mystery medication" that my dog was prescribed. She showed me how to clean my dog's ears on a regular basis--something my previous vet felt was unnecessary, and ultimately contributed to the ear infection becoming chronic no doubt. She sent me follow up emails and even called me to check-in after the appointment. I felt pampered, and more than anything, I felt like I had finally found a place that gave a damn. I would not recommend Pasadena Pets for cat owners. I brought my two cats to this hospital for about a year after reading the great Yelp reviews, back when I was still quite naive about feline health. I regularly came in to see Dr. Fan, and it seemed that each time there was a new product or procedure to pay for. For example, I was told my cat was too skinny and so was prescribed a lysine protein gel and lysine treats (a bit redundant to recommend both...), "healthy" dry foods (cats should not eat dry food), constantly charged for antibiotics that were issued without much explanation, and more. I should have been more wary and done my own research, but I trusted the vet so I paid for it all (plus, I'm sure all you pet owners know the guilt that comes with questioning the costliness of vet visits). However, the kicker was when I was told that my cat was in dire need of dental surgery that required anesthesia and extraction of some teeth. I was hesitant, but agreed to pay for the surgery--a total of a little over $500. Throughout all of these payments, especially the last, I felt very confused and never quite assured about the necessity of their recommendations, so I decided to look for a new veterinary hospital. While Dr. Fan is very sweet and, by the sound of the other reviews, a good vet for dogs, she wasn't a very good vet for me and my cats. She seemed less concerned with deeply evaluating my cats' overall health, and more concerned with finding possibly nonexistent problems to charge me for with generic solutions, without thoroughly explaining to me. So while I can't speak for bringing your dog to this center, I have to recommend that any cat owners look elsewhere for a cat specialist--it may sound over-the-top, but the cost is usually the same (and even lower in the long run), and you will learn so much about your cat! read more

I REALLY REALLY wanted to love this place.. but they muzzled my dogs while taking blood! My pups are ragdolls at the vet so I asked why and they say it's standard procedure for them. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it does make my dogs fear going to the vet even more, so I'll probably find another hospital. Updated due to nice response from business. I have vets in my immediate family in Washington, DC who are very against muzzling when they feel it's unnecessary but I do see that it's much more common a practice here in CA. read more

I was very pleased with Dr. Michelle. She listened well to my concerns for my generally healthy and very loved 12 yr old cat. She asked good questions and gave sensible advice. She was also gentle in handling my cat, letting me assist by petting and holding him on the exam table in such a way that we could keep him relaxed during the exam. An assistant presented me with the tentative bill in the exam room after Dr. Michelle did cytology on my cat's ears. I was able to choose what I would and would not pay for based on the vet's observations, my own finances and what I've observed of my cat's health. Dr. Michelle came back and we discussed follow-up for a potential next visit. I picked 4 of 5 stars because of front desk staff/vet staff. Admin staff had to erase and correct my bill three times. They caught the errors, not me, still I found it odd and inconvenient. Never had that happen before, even in retail. Also, I didn't care for how the vet (NOT Dr. Michelle) at the desk answered my question about medication. Her attitude was that she wanted me go away. An appropriate, professional response would have been to answer politely, ask me to wait a moment or hand me Dr. Michelle's card and suggest I call her any time. Anyone can do that, whether you're having a bad day or not. Maybe Dr. Michelle could open her own practice. I bet she'd hire people as professional, kind and skilled as she is. read more

I still bring my cats here regularly but if I had to make one suggestion it would be to the front desk people. If you have a customer in front of you who took the time to make an appointment and drive there, he/she ought to take priority over those who call. As it is, people who call get to virtually cut in line. Forcing the customer standing right in front of you to wait. I realize from the reviews here that people complain about hold times. A better practice if you're busy is to let calls go to voicemail with the intention of returning those messages when you're slow. People would much rather leave a message than be placed on hold for 10 minutes. read more

My wife and I bring our cats and our fosters here whenever they have problems and I can honestly say that I've never been as comfortable bringing my pets to a vet as I have here. The whole staff is nice and friendly and you can see that they're really after the most important thing: your pet's health! Other places tend to make you wait forever and give you vague results with borderline questionable and astronomical rates but we've never run into that kind of problem here. Dr. Stan is the best vet and an exceptional person! 3 years ago my dog had a severe back injury, and could not use her back legs. I was fortunate that Dr. Stan was the vet that was assigned her case in the next morning , and he called to give me an update on her status. He was took the time to explain all the options available, so I could understand them, and helped me make several decision during a difficult time, when my dog was seriously injured. Dr. Stan was professional, knowledgeable, kind and compassionate to my dog, and myself during this crisis. I was ready to call it quits and convinced me that he could keep her comfortable and give her some time to see if the medication would work. It did. He has also suggested that I try pet acupunture and recommneded me to another facility that specialized in non traditional pet treatments. It worked. I am happy to say that Sweetpea is fully recovered and can play! Thanks to Dr. Stan! Since then, Dr. Stan has remained her vet, and has helped her through many non emergency medical issues, has always provided consistent care, excellent customer service, and practical homeopathic suggestions as needed. Dr. Stan has always provided me with options in her care, and has taken the time to show me how to better care of my pet. I am so sad to see him leave the local Pet Hospital, but know that he will be a great asset to the pets in Pasadena, they are lucky to have him! I have sent several of my friends to see him and they have always been satisfied with his service and suggestions! So, I would highly recommend people to stop by the Pasadena Pet Hospital and meet Dr. Stan! read more

ARF! We love Pasadena Pets Veterinary Hospital! Our goldendoodle, Rooney, has been under Dr. Stan's exclusive care since we got him this past summer and we could not be happier with the quality of care and the facility itself (it's the cleanest vet's office I've ever been to). Dr. Stan is exceedingly kind and, most importantly, knowledgeable about issues affecting dogs (local hazards, GI issues, hygiene, etc.) He goes the extra mile and follows up on procedures and issues via phone or email and he spends a generous amount of time with us at each visit. If animals have any sense of good people, then Rooney can vouch for him too - he loves Dr. Stan! The front office staff is equally awesome; it's clear they love animals and their work. I completely trust PPVH with the care of our precious pup and recommend them to anyone seeking a vet for their animal. I must vehemently disagree with the review reporting mediocrity of this facility. PPVH goes above and beyond to care for their clients (both animal and human). We recently started taking our new puppy here for her shots, and Dr Stan and his staff were so sweet and polite that we started taking our old geezer, our cat Earl, here as well. The Dr and staff treat both our animals really well, particularly our cat. He's an old man now but him and the doc totally dig each other. Earl got his teeth cleaned recently because we knew our cat had some dental issues prior to meeting the Dr. and the staff and doctor called multiple times to update us, making sure to let us know our little guy was a champ through the process. With our puppy, the doctor was great. She's a tiny girl, and she really enjoyed her visit. She even got a cookie. He's very gentle with the animals. The staff and doctor are friendly. They don't try to sell you on anything, I really truly believe this is the first vet we've been to where they care more about the animals than anything! I wish they treated people, I'd come here too! He sat with us for about 15 min post X-rays to show and explain everything we were seeing, it just really is reassuring because they educate you as well! He sends results via email in a detailed manner, even calls too. He called on a Saturday to let us know our cats blood results, totally impressed. On November 9th, I had to bring my beloved yorkie Kobe in to be put down. His body was deteriorating and he was having so much trouble breathing because of his collapsing trachea, it was the right thing for me to do for my fur child. I had been with him for 10 years and losing a pet is truly one of the most difficult experiences in life; they are family and their loss is signficant and profound. As soon as I came in, the receptionist took us into a room and explained to me the process and was so calming and you could tell how sad she felt for us. I won't go into full detail here because my eyes are welling up with tears just thinking about this day again, but I was so pleased by how kind, comforting and professional their entire team was. Dr. Stan let me know I could stay with Kobe for as long as I wanted afterwards and I did not feel rushed at all to vacat the room for the next patient. I was visibly upset leaving and mulitple staff members bid me farewell with hugs. Dr. Stan told me that he was so sorry for my loss but he would take good care of Kobe until the crematory I had made arrangements with would come pick him up. I hope I don't have to live through this again for another 10 years, but when the time comes, I will no doubt come back here. In this time of sadness and distress, the team at Pasadena Pets help comfort you and make this process easier. 4 or 5 weeks later, I received a sympathy card from Dr. Stan and his entire team. Just reading their words made me start crying again, but I realized then how much they all truly care about the pets they care for. I made an appointment over the phone and was pleasantly surprised to learn that new patients were offered a free exam. My dog was overdue for an exam--he has been itching nonstop and topical flea medications were futile. I didn't know what to do with my poodle mix's skin. I didn't have to wait long to be seen by the vet. The office was spacious and clean. The receptionist was really kind as well. She led me and my dog into an exam room and the vet came in shortly to meet my dog. He kneeled down most of the time and just let my dog get used to him. I let him know that my dog isn't normally the nicest when he goes to the vet/groomers. He observed my dog's behavior and discussed with me the possible issues that my dog could be experiencing. Since most dogs, including mine--are normally very protective of their owners, the vet suggested giving him his exam in the back and his shots as well. I waited maybe about 10 minutes and my dog was brought back a lot less frazzled than he normally is at his vet visits. I'm glad my dog wasn't terrified after his exam, that was actually one of the great aspects. The vet suggested several medications to put my dog on to help with his skin and then left the rest to the receptionist to finish up. Overall, I thought the vet was professional, understanding, and kind to my dog. I'll definitely be back for my dog's health care needs. read more

Wonderful veterinarians and staff. I brought 2 of my older cats here, one who was diagnosed with diabetes and the other who was showing signs of cancer. The vets were very caring and treated my cats as if they were theirs. Prices were very good and they provided thorough testing. When it came time for my cats to go to the Rainbow Bridge, the procedure was done in the most loving and caring way. I couldn't recommend this clinic more. read more

I moved to Pasadena in October, having two senior cats that needed vet attention. I love that the vet takes photos of your animals and adds that to the file (likely to make sure mistakes don't happen?) We just adopted a dog from LA Animal Control and took him for his "free Shelter exam", a service almost every vet in LA county offers, but not only were we able to get our new pup in to see the vet the next day, but Dr. Stan immediately noted that his neuter had been done strangely (which causes extra pain), a fact I confirmed with my mom (a super-volunteer at one of the best shelters in Michigan). Dr. Stan called me the next day after business hours to let us know that the fecal test he suggested we run for the dog had come up whipworm positive. After I said I'd make sure to pick up the medication on Monday (when they were back), he asked me "how far away do you live..." and proceeded to wait for me to drive there to pick up the already-prepared whipworm meds. It is exceptionally clear that this vet does this for the love of animals. He is straight to the point, honest, dedicated and very knowledgable. I would recommend Dr. Stan and Pasadena Pets to anyone who needs a veterinarian in the Pasadena area. read more
