The ambiance of the restaurant, Pasara, was excellent: quiet, impressive, well decorated, and clean place. The service was good and quickly served us. The food was excellent and the reason why I gave this place 4 stars. We stopped here for a brief & small dinner of appetizers before going to the movies. We ordered summer rolls and calamari. The food was well prepared. The calamari was the best I ever had. The summer rolls were good but not the best I ever had. These were the highlights. The downside: Glasses & dishwater looked old. Scratch or wear marks on rims of glasses. The ice water they gave us tasted like it came from a faucet or unfiltered. There were no happy hour drink specials or dining specials. Service was quick to seat us yet slow in taking our orders. Even though the calamari was the best I ever had and the highlights of this restaurant, I was not compelled to re-visit this place as soon as possible like other restaurants in the past. There are other Thai places in the area that offer excellent prices for excellent & larger quantities of food with dining specials. Used to like this place a while back when I lived nearby. Passing through the area and decided to stop in again. I had been craving Thai and was excited to eat in one of my former go-to's but I was shockingly surprised and disappointed at how bad this place has gone downhill. Ordered the YUM woon sen and the noodles were so dry they were stiff. There was NO sauce as you would expect, and barely any flavor at all. Total waste of money and didn't even eat it. I was hoping this was a mistake and that the PAD woon sen would be better. The noodles weren't dried out but again there was very little flavor at all. You could barely tell it was even pad woon sen. Not to mention that all of the portions seem to have shrunk while prices have gone up, some insanely so! Biggest shock was when the bill came. $25.45 for the smallest portion you've ever seen. Most other Thai places charge $16-$18 for this dish and a much bigger size with better flavor. Insulting. Waste of time, waste of money. It's a shame how they have read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough that I feel people should know what to EXPECT. The service was very poor from start to finish. WE MADE A RESERVATION as we came in to celebrate a birthday, yet we were told that we had no reservation and then later in the system found our time slot. Our waitress repeatedly gave us incorrect information and then tried to argue about it later. For example, we asked how many skewers came with the chicken satay because we were a party of five. She confidently told us 5-6 skewers. When the dish arrived, there were only four. The Thai tea was also the worst I've ever had. It was unbelievably sweet, almost like drinking syrup rather than tea. The biggest issue was the "special of the day," which was a pampano fish priced at $35. We ordered it and then waited...and waited...and waited. We asked the waitress multiple times about it and received no clear update. After a long time, we finally decided to just get the check because the dish still had not arrived. At that point she suddenly told us the fish could not be canceled because it was already cooked. This was the first time anyone mentioned anything about a long wait. The dish had still not even been brought to our table while we were having this conversation. Instead of acknowledging the delay, she insisted that she had already warned us about the wait time, which simply was not true. What made the situation worse was the attitude. Once we politely pointed out how long we had been waiting, the waitress became visibly annoyed and started speaking to us with a tone. At one point she said, "This must be the first time you are here." I'm still not sure what that was supposed to mean, but she's correct about one thing. It was our first time there and it will definitely be our last. To make matters worse, the bill was shockingly high for what we ordered. For a table of five we had three appetizers, two entrees, and the fish special. The total came out to about $200 before tip, and around $225 after tipping. For the quality of food and the level of service we received, the price felt completely unjustified. Between the poor service, confusing information about orders, and very high prices for what you get, the entire experience was disappointing. There are far better Thai restaurants in the area with better food, better service, and much better value. read more

I haven't visited Pasara since prior to Covid and I always got the pineapple fried rice. This was the first thing I ordered and its still just as great! We also ordered the crispy salmon which was amazing and I would definitely recommend. The spring rolls were just ok and I ordered ginger tea which was good but a little lukewarm. There was only one table of people in the restaurant and we were seated quickly. One of us ordered a chicken dish in garlic sauce and one chicken fried rice. The price point is on the higher side for the portions. The chicken with garlic sauce was 90% half cooked vegetables and a tiny amount of boiled chicken, did not taste good. My friend took one bite and spit it out. We pushed it aside. My chicken friend rice was unbelievably bland. It was very light in color and the chicken looked boiled. The time between placing our order and it being ready was 15 minutes. We ordered the following: wonton soup, tom yum soup, stuffed chicken wings, pineapple fried rice, and massaman curry. The food was decent, but not a hit out of the park. It was an eye-popping $70 for this order. The Thai wonton soup was educational for me. Previously, when I thought of wonton soup, I pictured the Chinese version: a simple broth with stuffed wontons. The Thai version, at least at Pasara, was, yes, a broth with wontons, but also cluttered with various vegetables and five spiced pork. The five spice pork flavor clashed with the rest of the soup. I would not order again. The tom yum soup was okay, but very spicy. The stuffed chicken wings were not stuffed chicken wings, but instead, a chicken bone inserted into a fried ball of smooshed-together ingredients. They looked like big lollipops. Flavor was actually pretty good, including a nice sweet chili dipping sauce. The massaman curry with pork was good but plenty spicy. Unfortunately, it was runny like a soup. We ordered our food but the waitress misunderstood and failed to check with us. She brought the wrong appetizer and then tried to insist she was right. After 4 years of seeing this across the street from the movie theater and our most visited restaurant Bonefish we decided to venture in and take a seat. The indoor lighting, seating and setup was a good check off for the list. Wood carved tables with details and dining room feel. The bartender/hostess attempted to sit us right in front of the window although the restaurant wasn't crowded maybe 15 people total. We declined and sat across from the bar. She removed the plating and silverware from our table (didn't make sense if this is where we are going to be eating). Eight minutes pass and the waiter comes over to give us the menus. While we are going over it, a new party of 3 walk in and sit next to us. We're signaling we are ready but the server goes to make drinks behind the bar. Additional time passes and he returns to their table to request their orders before ours. Confused and annoyed we flag him over. He proceeds to take the order after 15 more minutes (while we place an order from Smashburger mobile) if the customer service is any indication we should have politely declined to eat there we should have listened. We ordered Thai tea, Long Island Ice Tea and spring rolls to start. Thai tea was overly heavy on sweet cream and not enough tea. Long Island Ice Tea had no alcohol contents but what appeared to be Simply Lemonade. Not worth the money. Lad Na and Pad See Ew (chicken) neither would wow us and have us revisit this location. Pad See Ew was extremely sweet and veggies unedible. Lad Na broth was pasty and not the same as other restaurants. Chicken for both dishes had been cooked separately from the noodles and veggies so all the temperatures were ranging from cold to extremely hot. The bill was higher than other Thai restaurants we visit around the DMV and unfortunately not to the standards. A great place for a casual lunch or dinner. The restaurant has a ton of interesting and cultural decor on the walls and around the restaurant. Definitely great to go as a group and eat family style. The portions are really big and great for sharing. We ordered the chicken pad thai, beef pad see ew, chicken ka prao, and yellow curry. The pad thai had a bit more of the vinegar taste than other pad thais I've had but it was still very tasty! The pad see ew was delicious except a few beef pieces were tough/overcooked. I hate writing this review as for years this was our favorite Thai restaurant in the area. It used to be a solid 4 star establishment. We've eaten dozens of meals from here over the years and have always enjoyed the food but now it's a 2 star restaurant. Service is slow and dismissive. Our friends wanted a Panang with Veggies and Shrimp. Sure no problem they said. We then ordered the fried whole flounder for two. We asked how much and our server said that a "medium sized fish" that would feed two would be $40 and that a large fish would be closer to $60. Our fish came out and was delicious but it barely had 2-4 oz of meat on the bones. My wife and I were starving. The panang was very good and a good portion size. When the bill came we were shocked! Our fish was $56!!! And our friends panang was ring up as "Panang $16 + Shrimp $4 + Veggies $4. There is a veggie Panang for $16 that they could have just added the $4 shrimp upcharge. We went here at 1pm on a Saturday and the place was empty. The decor is nice, but note some art does contain illustrations of topless women if you have children in your group. The staff was very slow and sadly did not get our drinks or food orders correct. It was hard to ask them to correct the mistake as once they dropped off the drinks or food they were nowhere to be seen until the next iteration would finally come out. The chicken pad thai was very oily, but did have good flavor. The crispy spring rolls were freshly fried and were tasty. They do not have drinks listed on their menu and I was shocked to find out they charge $5.95 for a small size of fountain soda when I received my bill. I was also dissapointed to see that they are still charging a $1.50 surcharge fee to any order that contains eggs, even though the egg shortage is over. We ordered a large (dinner) green curry for carry out and was given a 9oz (max) container. I specified dinner 2-3 times when ordering. We were surprised because it's definitely a lunch portion. The lunch portion is the smaller size and both my receipts say "lunch" but I was charged a dinner price. I called and they told me the reason my receipt says lunch was because the order was taken at the bar. They also said it's just a normal small serving The amount of food was so small that we had to order another curry from a restaurant closer to my home. Pasara was divine!!! Everything was delicious. My group chose a few selections and shared. It was plenty for 4 people and every loved the food. My co worker go the Pad Thai medium Spice.... Let's just say they don't play when it comes to spice. I took some of her pad Thai and my stomach is still burning 2 days later. She no longer gets to choose the spice settings. All I can tell y'all is Pasará has been my best dining experience for 2025. No lie, no pretense. I love Thai food, but have gone to a few places and felt disappointed. Authentic Thai food. High quality meat. We had the chicken red & green curry (level 8 spicy) which was perfectly seasoned & balanced in regards to the spice level, flavor, & coconut portion. Many Thai restaurants usually overpower their curries with coconut milk and this was not the case. We also ordered: Drunken noodle, kra pao, Nam Tok, & the coconut sticky rice with mango. The 5 large thinly breaded shrimp came in a very thin deep fried edible basket, along with lettuce and spiralized carrots, and a homemade sweet and sour dipping sauce. I decided on the Panang chicken curry as my main entree. The dish came with white rice. I found the spiciness to be catered to american tastes. I requested a Thai condiment tray to add some spiciness to the curry. I found that the sliced white meat chicken to be a bit overcooked. The staff were somewhat attentive but did not follow up much after delivering my entree. Other patrons came in while I was there. I believe that some diners were regulars to the restaurant. Great Thai spot in Alexandria. Located in the Kingstowne center next to the new sweet frog. I originally wanted to go to my favorite Thai place but wasn't feeling up to the drive. I found a new great spot in the process to feed my Thai addiction! I liked the sizes here, I left very full and happy. I got my favorite plate the pad see ew with shrimp. The shrimps were large and enough to balance out the bounty of noodles. The sauce was delicious and the noodles were not dry which is a problem I sometimes run into with this plate. I also got the Thai iced coffee. I'm a huge fan of Vietnamese iced coffee and the biggest different I could note is the spice (of cardamom perhaps) It's much sweeter but equally as strong.
