    41. Massaman Curry Dinner
    Stephanie S.

The experience was 2 stars, but the food was 4 stars, so I'll balance it out at 3 overall. The service was SLOW. Waters came out right away, but we had to wait a while for our order to be taken. Then the food took a while, but the wait after we finished eating was really frustrating. It appeared to just be two people serving - one at the bar & one on the floor - but it wasn't busy at all. The server on the floor stopped at all the other tables multiple times & just seemed to forget about us. We couldn't even make eye contact to get her attention. My husband had to get up and go to the bar to ask for the check after we waited about 15min. I had wanted dessert, but we decided it wasn't worth the wait. My husband & I got chicken massaman curry & chicken ka prow fried rice to share. I really enjoyed the massaman curry, but it was a little to sweet for his liking. Depending on your preferred flavor profile, you may or may not like it. The fried rice was really good, but he ordered it medium. Usually that's fine for me, but this one was a bit too spicy. The few bites I had were yummy though. In summary, the food was pretty good, but I recommend getting takeout if you're going to eat here. The in person experience left much to be desired. We won't be back.

Service isn't great, but the food and restaurant is great. Pay to park on the street is convenient and not a lot of issues. Always like the shimai.

Thai food is already the best option. And this restaurant lives up to that moto. Tasty amazing dishes, quick service, friendly staff. The decor is pretty nice too and restaurant is always clean.

Ordered DoorDash from this place numerous times but this is my first time eating inside the establishment. Overall it's a good looking place. Went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't packed at all. Ordered the drunken noodles without peppers. Was very satisfied with the way everything tasted and service. Will most likely revisit if I'm in the mood for Thai.

Me my Wife and one of my daughters were in town for a min and we definitely had to drop in at one of my wife's favorite Thai restaurant. The food was amazing I must say. They didn't let us down.. I stepped out a little outta my comfort zone this time and tried the Duck Curry with a little spice. It was actually pretty good. It had sweet spicy tangyness to it. The atmosphere was nice smooth and relaxing. The music was at the right level and lighting was set for close intimate vibe! Good job, Pasara Thai! We will be back..

This is a street parking location although there are parking garages in the area too, so beware. Service here is great and it's a very comfortable place. Unfortunately the food left nothing to be desired. Of everything I tried, the only one I found worth going back for was the curry puffs, which were amazing. The crispy spring rolls were fine, not standout but as good as any other Asian restaurant. Where I hoped for good taste was in the main dishes. Unfortunately it wasn't there. My chili paste fried rice was clumpy and lacked any appreciable flavor. My daughter's basil fried rice had a smoky flavor (which was nice) but I could not taste the basil. My son't wild boar curry was probably the best meal and was actually pretty decent. My wife's panang curry was so so. Overall, service was good but food wasn't enough to bring me back.

We stopped by Pasara Thai for dinner and the restaurant was mostly empty. After skimming some reviews, it seems like a more popular lunch spot. We ordered a few dishes and thought they were pretty mid. Hoy Jor: Similar flavors to a Vietnamese spring roll. Tom Kha Gai: Extremely salty with a kick of lime and fish sauce. Roasted Duck Curry: My favorite item - tender duck paired with yummy curry. Pad Thai Beef: Too sweet, minimal sour and salty flavors.

Really sad to leave this review because we loved this place originally but ever since Alexandria restaurant week the quality of the food has declined. We've had a lot of mango sticky rice and this is the first time we've ever had rotten mango.

Those who read my reviews knows im a pad thai kind of guy. Pad thai is my kind of comfort food. So naturally I looked up some Thaibplaces near the place I was staying. I came to this cool place tucked between some business buildings. They were surprisingly not busy for a weekday night. Probably suggests most of their customers comes during the lunch rush. I ordered the sampler appetizer plate and chicken pad thai (spicy 9). The sampler plate was definitely meant for 2 people. Each item on thebplated tasted really good including the stuffed drumstick. It had vermicelli noodle stuffed between chicken and fried. Tasted great with the sauce. The pad thai came out and I was excited. Took the first bite and had instant regrets on my spice choice. This place gives you a true legit spicy 8. Well, a little bit of spice never stopped me. At first I couldn't tell if I classify this pad thai dish as savory or sweet, or maybe just spicy. I think thisbpad thai dish leans more on sweet than savory in my opinion. It was done well and zibreally enjoyed the taste. It was definitely a healthy serving. I enjoyed eating at this place and recommend it for a lunch kind of thing. I recommend you give this place a try. Be sure to watch your spice level.

I was super impressed and dare I say blown away by just about everything! From the Tom Ka soup right through to the Drunken Noodles - each dish we had was packed with flavours that were bold, authentic, and beautifully balanced. The service was great! Despite it being super busy - our sever was very attentive (especially on a holiday evening), and even came to let us know the kitchen was closing and if we wanted desserts, we had 10-15 mins to place the order/s. The venue itself is really unique/trendy - I would describe it as a fun, unexpected blend of a cozy French bistro aesthetic with a Thai twist--warm, stylish, and welcoming. A total gem in Old Town & I can't wait to go back!

Very good. Normal spicy is probably too mild for me. Good flavors. I like to get a side of broccoli to add more veggies to the dish. It comes with broccoli already but I like a little more. For us, we were talking to an artist in the Torpedo Art Studio in Old Town Alexandria, admiring the work he did. It got then we started talking about lunch as he was from Hong Kong. He mentioned we go across the street and try something he liked as it was something he would have back home. So, taking his advice we walked across the street and went to Mai Thai. It was a good suggestion. We went in and had a seat. Our waitress (a wonderful woman from Guam) gave some advice and we to some time to think. In the end we decided to start with Spring Rolls. This is the freshest sliced roll of crispy veggie combinations of lettuce, celery, mixed veggies wrapped in a thin wrap and served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. It was truly fresh and tasty. The dipping sauce was unique and made this worth a meal by itself. Then, being a cold day outside, soup seemed to be a good thing for lunch. We selected some traditional bowls of soup. First was TOM KA. It was a combination of vegetables and tofu in a coconut broth with mushrooms and fresh herbs. The soup had a tint of white. It was light and tasty. It was at a room temperature which is the way you have soup in Thailand. It was refreshing and light. Next we had TOM YUM. This is a combination made from slices of chicken in a lemongrass soup with fresh mushrooms, cilantro, scallions, galangal, kaffir-lime leaves, and Thai spices. The broth was light and traditional. If you wanted more spice our hostess brought it to you. Again, this was the way I had it when I was working in the rural areas of Thailand. Nothing fancy. Nothing simple. It was true home cooking that was served to you in a method truly Thai. The lunch was simple, but the way you would eat in Thailand. The taste and flavor was what to expect. The team is wonderful and friendly. The price was fine. It was good to find Mai Thai. And maybe being told about it from an artists does make it true to say that "Art is in the eye (and mouth) of the beholder."

Was seated by a delightful young lady, and found the decor and layout to be quite pleasing; modest by elegant. As for the fare, it was indeed quite worth the walk. Ordered a bowl of Tom Yum and the Pad Thai Mun Goong. The Tom Yum was solid and quite flavorful, a flux of tangy lemongrass with the oniony sweetness of steeped scallions, and enoki mushrooms to provide some heartiness. The Pad Thai Mun Goong was a chef specialty pad Thai made with stir fried rice noodle, prawns shrimp tomalley oil (a crucial element for this version), egg and bean sprouts, naturally topped with green onions, peanuts and a lime for squeezing, and this also was quite phenomenal. Savory, sweet, a little tingle of sourness from the citrus in the mid-palate, and the juicy, briny shrimp balancing the dense carbs and rich flavorful sauce. All-in-all, I was well pleased this visit. As this is Padaek's second location, I hope they don't expand too much further/quickly and compromise on quality.

We were the first dine-in customers when we arrived yesterday evening. We were promptly seated and provided menus and water. Service overall was excellent. I like that you can select your choice of meat for your entrée: chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, combo, duck, seafood or salmon. I ordered the khao soi (my current go-to Thai dish) and JP ordered the Galae noodles. For an appetizer we ordered the Crispy Wontons. I picked pork for my khao soi and the khao soi was delicious. I liked the size of the pork and noodle portions as well as the slight sweetness and moderate spiciness of my dish. One of the best khao sois I've had in the DMV. JP picked seafood for his Galae noodles which contains an assortment of vegetable including carrot, green bean and bamboo shoot. The Galae noodles were spicy and excellent. Much less stellar were the crispy wontons. The menu bills these as deep fried chicken and shrimp wontons. I didn't observe or taste any chicken or shrimp. All we got were circular hollow burnt crackers. The dipping sauce was good though. Parking after about 5:30pm can be problematic in the tiny parking lot up front.
