Great Food....& Ambiance to match! I am slightly obsessed with visiting Thai restaurants around the DMV and this one does not disappoint. Set in Alexandria, off the 495 corridor, is Pasara Thai restaurant featuring a casual dining experience and vibe with interesting tables with wood carvings and artwork throughout. The lighting is nice and you can find intimate settings for a date night or tables large enough for friends and family. The food menu is crazy big, extensive and seems to have something for everyone. The food is usually quite spicy, so if it isn't your thing, as for mild flavoring! Everything I have ordered from the pad Thai, curry Thai dishes and roasted duck have been delicious....full of flavor and of great portions for the price point. This time around, I placed an order to go for dinner later, and the staff was so nice. I ordered Roasted Duck Basil & Fried Crab-Shrimp Balls. The duck dish was one of the best I have ever had. It had the right amount of spice, heat and flavor. Not to mention, loaded with stir-fry vegetable and a sauce that was finger-licking good.....simply, delicious!! My favorite dishes thus far, is the Pad Thai....very popular here and the Spicy Seafood Pad See Ew. I went here for lunch with two friends and we ordered family style. I got a veggie tofu green curry, my friends got Penang tofu and a pepper beef. I liked them all, but the Penang tofu was the bomb!! The green curry was spicier than expected and very flavorful. I really enjoyed it. Service was very friendly and quick. They were great about water refills. I am looking forward to trying their pad Thai... the defining dish for a Thai place as far as I am concerned. read more

Stopped by with a group attending a conference and the restaurant is nicely appointed and the staff was friendly. Although the restaurant was pretty empty, service was a bit slow. I definitely chalked that up to the size of our group. We started with spring rolls which were nice and I followed that with the drunken beef noodles. Honestly, I eat drunken noodles all the time, usually shrimp or seafood, and these were just ok. The beef was a bit chewy and surprisingly, there were not a lot of noodles in the dish. The experience was 2 stars, but the food was 4 stars, so I'll balance it out at 3 overall. The service was SLOW. Waters came out right away, but we had to wait a while for our order to be taken. Then the food took a while, but the wait after we finished eating was really frustrating. It appeared to just be two people serving - one at the bar & one on the floor - but it wasn't busy at all. The server on the floor stopped at all the other tables multiple times & just seemed to forget about us. We couldn't even make eye contact to get her attention. My husband had to get up and go to the bar to ask for the check after we waited about 15min. I had wanted dessert, but we decided it wasn't worth the wait. My husband & I got chicken massaman curry & chicken ka prow fried rice to share. I really enjoyed the massaman curry, but it was a little to sweet for his liking. Depending on your preferred flavor profile, you may or may not like it. The fried rice was really good, but he ordered it medium. Usually that's fine for me, but this one was a bit too spicy. The few bites I had were yummy though. In summary, the food was pretty good, but I recommend getting takeout if you're going to eat here. The in person experience left much to be desired. A HIDDEN GEM. I never knew Pasara Thai was tucked into the heart of Alexandria. It wasn't packed, but it's quiet and intimate. The menu was quite extensive and it's hard to pick between so many choices, but I opted for the pork belly and broccoli special and I wasn't disappointed. I can't wait to come back and try more things on the menu. read more

This is a street parking location although there are parking garages in the area too, so beware. Service here is great and it's a very comfortable place. Unfortunately the food left nothing to be desired. Of everything I tried, the only one I found worth going back for was the curry puffs, which were amazing. The crispy spring rolls were fine, not standout but as good as any other Asian restaurant. Where I hoped for good taste was in the main dishes. Unfortunately it wasn't there. My chili paste fried rice was clumpy and lacked any appreciable flavor. My daughter's basil fried rice had a smoky flavor (which was nice) but I could not taste the basil. My son't wild boar curry was probably the best meal and was actually pretty decent. My wife's panang curry was so so. Overall, service was good but food wasn't enough to bring me back. read more

Me my Wife and one of my daughters were in town for a min and we definitely had to drop in at one of my wife's favorite Thai restaurant. The food was amazing I must say. They didn't let us down.. I stepped out a little outta my comfort zone this time and tried the Duck Curry with a little spice. It was actually pretty good. It had sweet spicy tangyness to it. Those who read my reviews knows im a pad thai kind of guy. Pad thai is my kind of comfort food. So naturally I looked up some Thaibplaces near the place I was staying. I came to this cool place tucked between some business buildings. They were surprisingly not busy for a weekday night. Probably suggests most of their customers comes during the lunch rush. I ordered the sampler appetizer plate and chicken pad thai (spicy 9). The sampler plate was definitely meant for 2 people. Each item on thebplated tasted really good including the stuffed drumstick. It had vermicelli noodle stuffed between chicken and fried. Tasted great with the sauce. The pad thai came out and I was excited. Took the first bite and had instant regrets on my spice choice. This place gives you a true legit spicy 8. Well, a little bit of spice never stopped me. At first I couldn't tell if I classify this pad thai dish as savory or sweet, or maybe just spicy. I think thisbpad thai dish leans more on sweet than savory in my opinion. It was done well and zibreally enjoyed the taste. It was definitely a healthy serving. Pasara Thai is not the best Thai restaurant in the DMV but it's a pretty good spot to go to if you're in the Carlyle area of Old Town Alexandria. I used to work right down the street. So, of course, this became one of my regular spots mostly for dinner after working late, and occasionally for lunch as well. I think my favorite menu item would have to be their Roasted Duck with Basil. Very flavorful and a healthy portion of duck is given. The only thing that prevented them from getting a Five out of Five Star review from me was inconsistency when it comes to their customer service. I've had great experiences at times and then not so great experiences other times. Also, the cleanliness of the restaurant could be just a tad bit better and more consistent as well. read more

Stopped by Pasara Thai on a Tuesday night to grab a quick bite by myself. Sat at the bar and ordered the Wonton Soup ad Massaman Curry. Both were lovely. The soup light and tasty. Contained a few veggies nicely cooked and sliced. 4-5 homemade wontons and fresh herbs. The Massaman curry was delicious. Good portion of chicken in a peanut/coconut milk sauce that wasn't too thick. A few whole peanuts and some bite sized cut potatoes rounded out the dish. Since all curries are really about the sauce, this one was perfectly balanced with savory, heat and even a slight sweetness. Really satisfying. I found the service attentive and polite. About 2-3rds full on a cold, windy March night. Good for them. read more

The veggie spring rolls were crispy and hot, tasted fine. The service was fine, and the ambiance is neutral oriental to me is good. Pretty plates and silverware. We were staying at the Westin and wanted to grab dinner somewhere within walking distance. Pasara is right around the corner and this was my mom and her cousins first time having Thai. We kept it simple with drunkin noodles and a beef with chili sauce. Both were really good. We got medium spicy which might have been too spicy for 1/2 the group LOL. They went through about 3 cups of water. Everything was flavorful and great. Only recommendations would be a little more white rice, and ice cold water. The water they gave was very warm. read more

Worked in the area and tried this place twice, honestly not a hit and would give this more of a 2.5. Tried the Pad See Ew and Pla Plamuk. I had no big issues with the Pla Plamuk but the Pad See Ew was unpleasant, so maybe it's just that one dish. Side note, rice is extra and also not on the menu! But costs $2.00 as a general tip. Don't want to be too negative, the staff is great and working very hard, this is just a very average experience. read more

Honestly this was some of the bland, unflavorful, tasteless Thai food I've ever had. I really wanted it to be good because I ADORE Thai food and I live nearby. But it was just NOT good. Like "I can't go back" not good! I ordered the Drunken Noodle with Shrimp and the Ka Prao Jae. The noodles were soggy and completely flavorless. The Ka Prao Jao was also lacking in flavor and just extremely bland. And it's expensive! Both items came to $43 not including tax. At my usual Thai place in Arlington, it would be about $30-32 before tax. I'm so so so disappointed. On the bright side, I suppose it's better that I can't go back. I'll save money and calories. I was staying at the Residence Inn in Alexandria's Carlyle "neighborhood" and needed a quick dinner closeby.  I considered getting delivery but needed some fresh air and decided to see what was nearby.  I made the short walk up Jamieson to Pasara and stumbled into a lovely haven of a space, very crisp and clean.  Even at 8pm on a weekday, the dining room was 2/3 full with diners in all phases of their meal.  Carlyle can be lonely in the evenings and my expectations were low but, really, the food was delicious!  I arrived knowing that I wanted Pad See Ew.  Pasara's version of the noodles is cooked in a wonderful sauce along with tons of broccoli, Chinese broccoli, and, my choice of meat: sliced pork.  Ask for the tray of spicy peppers and sprinkle over the dry chilis and one of the hot sauces for an extra kick.  An order of noodles was plenty of food for one person but I got sucked in by some of the interesting appetizers that I wasn't familiar with and so opted to also order the Hoy Jor.  A great choice!  Hoy Jor reminded me of the siu mai dumplings served at dim sum restaurants but this version is made with ground chicken and crab and wrapped in a skin of yuba tofu - and deep fried!  Served with a lovely thai sweet and sour chili sauce for dipping, this was a delicious treat.  I took home half of the six pieces served for yummy leftovers.  This place was wonderful.  If I lived nearby, I'd eat here often.  Next time I'm in town for NSF, I'll be back! read more

I went here for the first time for lunch. I ordered for carry-out. It was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area. I ordered some pad thai. I was disappointed that there is no tofu option. The location is good and I was able to find parking but I don't think it would be as easy if I went in the evening. This is right in downtown Alexandria. Overall, the food is delicious and I would visit again but it would be great if they add tofu as an option. read more

I really enjoyed my Eggplant Pad Phed - spiced just right - with pork. My husband wasn't thrilled with his pad Thai with pork. He thought it was bland.
