Great to see this place back to its original vibe--another solid save by Dickie Brennan. The menu is extensive, but the real draw is the oyster station. We went late on the final Sunday of Jazz Fest, so it was a bit quieter than expected, which made for a relaxed experience. The standout of the night was the raw oysters--big, classic Louisiana oysters at a very reasonable $2.33 each. We've come to prefer the flavor of smaller New England oysters, but at $3-$3.50 each, these were a great value. For entrées, we had three fish dishes and a veal piccata--the latter was the only miss. Overall, we had a very enjoyable evening. Total for four, including tip, came to about $310. Definitely worth a visit--this is a true New Orleans institution. read more

We come to Pascal's every Mardi Gras for lunch after loading our Krewe float. We used to get very good service, but this year was abhorrent. We arrived for our reservation and they said they were waiting for other guests to leave to seat us. We waited for 45 minutes before they sat us in a room that had only two other tables being used and a room full of empty tables otherwise. A server eventually showed up and we tried to order right away and she stopped us and said she would be back. This happened 3 times over the next 20 minutes. Meanwhile, all of those empty tables were slowly being set up by 4 other employees, all otherwise ignoring us. At this point we were very short on time and complained to the manager, who did not apologize but sent the server our way, who also did not only not apologize, but said "It's Mardi Gras what do you expect?" Again, there were only two other tables in the entire restaurant and a large handful of employees seemingly doing nothing at all. The food that did arrive was uncharacteristically bad and we did not even bother to finish, and it makes me wonder if it wasn't on purpose because of us complaining about waiting in an empty restaurant for an hour to actually be spoken to. We have been coming to Pascals for years because it is close to the Tucks' den and it was a nice tradition, but this was one of the most insulting experiences we've had, so we will be moving forward and making a new tradition next year. read more

This place is in need of a massive overhaul if it wants to stay afloat. There is so much potential and history here, but alas, its days have to be numbered. I had high hopes after it was sold to the D. Brennan group, hoping that they could right the ship. I was wrong. Indeed, the other D. Brennan restaurants have been slipping of late, with Palace Cafe (now closed) as exhibit A. Meanwhile, the other Brennan restaurants (Mr. B's, Commander, etc) are crushing it. Pascal's invented bbq shrimp. It should be spectacular. It isn't. In fact, it's downright disgusting, with the sauce being a bowl of oil and grease rather than the rich flavorful bbq shrimp sauce you get at Mr. B's. I got the redfish special, which was virtually inedible. It tasted "fishy" and was swimming in a sea of grease. Worse, the Italian dishes--a hard thing to mess up--are not at all good. Just very salty, lukewarm, and no flavor. The restaurant itself feels tired and worn out. This is in a primo location and could be awesome. The fact that it was only half full on a Saturday night should have told me everything. Please fix this before it goes the way of the Palace Cafe. All you need to do is spruce up the interior and start serving the Mr. B's bbq shrimp and grilled fish. read more

We came on a Friday night for celebrate an early Mother's Day dinner. We started with happy hour at the bar which was delightful and had good deals. We moved over to the oyster counter and enjoyed raw oysters and the accroutrements as well as conversation with the shucker. For dinner the veal Marsala was delicious and the pasta perfectly cooked. I also tried the turtle soup and meal parm which were also great. The whole experience felt extended which I enjoyed getting to really explore the whole restaurant. Went to dinner here last night and had a great time. The vibe is so old school, you feel like you stepped back in time when you walk through the doors. The bar and oyster area are so unique and cool. The happy hour (see picture for schedule and menu) is actually very impressive. I got a fantastic sazerac for $5! The oysters were some of the freshest I've had in the city. But I will say the actual entrees were okay. I got the special of the day, grilled red fish with shrimp and their famous bbq sauce. The portion was small and it does not come with a side. The fish was over salted, the shrimp were small, and the bbq sauce tasted almost burnt and had an odd plastic looking sheen on it. I'd give the dish a 6/10, but the service was 10/10, and the drinks and oysters were solid 8/10. I would maybe return but just for drinks during happy hour at the bar. read more

Unfortunately, we just weren't wowed as we thought we would be. Parking at lunchtime was not terrible, which was fantastic news for us. The bread was brought out in a bag and was not warm in the slightest. It was good but very flaky. We had an order of cheese sticks, a bbq shrimp sandwich and the lunch special of redfish pascal grilled. The sandwich was more bread than anything. The redfish was good, but not very hot. VERY disappointing. It has been thirty years since I lived in NOLA, 30 years since my last meal at Pascal's. Our barbeque shrimp was mushy to the point of being inedible; the sauce lacked the decadent character that made it famous, and the bread was just a cold grocery-store hoagie roll. The roux in our gumbo was burned, giving the classic dish an offensive undertone. Even the creamed spinach was underwhelming. Came here for a birthday dinner as recommend by a client and was not disappointed. We were one of the last reservations and one of the last diners in the restaurant and they still welcomed us warmly and treated us like valued guests. Our waiter was very sweet and knowledgeable about the menu and gave many recommendations. He even put the bibs on for the whole birthday party which was adorable. We started with oysters, bbq shrimp, and an eggplant app. All were great, the bbq shrimp are a must and the baked oysters were incredible. We shared a wedge salad which was also great and I split a steak and the Fra Diavola dish with a friend. Both were amazing, everyone enjoyed their dishes as well, so much so we didn't even get pics of the entrees except one haha. They gave us a complimentary bread pudding for the birthday and we also got the mousse which was incredible and has a great touch of sea salt in it. I brought my out-of-town guests here so they could experience a classic New Orleans restaurant, and Pascal's delivered beautifully. I've always liked this place for many reasons. First, parking is easy and free--a rarity in the city. They even have security who walks you to your car, keeps an eye out, and tells a few jokes along the way. That alone is priceless. The ambiance is warm, classic, and charming. It's often very busy, and for good reason. The service is consistently impressive--pleasant, knowledgeable, efficient, and genuinely focused on making guests feel welcome. Five stars for the staff. The menu is extensive and full of traditional favorites. Their turtle soup was divine--I ordered a cup but will absolutely get a bowl next time. And of course, P.M. is famous for the Barbecued Shrimp, which lives up to its reputation. At $28, it's an excellent choice, especially with the delicious French bread to soak up the sauce. My guests ordered the fish specials and were very happy with them. This is a classic New Orleans Italian restaurant, so one thing I would strongly recommend not ordering is the filet. It was very disappointing, especially at that price point. There are many other lovely options on the menu--steak simply isn't what they're best at. Finally came here to try their famous bbq shrimp. Got the lunch special of it that comes with grits. Big jumbo shrimp that were already shelled and heads off. They were alright... apparently the classic is shells on so maybe it retains more of the flavor. Grits are decadent. Other dishes were the grilled catfish which was nicely done and the fried oyster penne pasta which was very good and flavorful. I've been coming to Pascal's Manale for the last few years, and it's been overall a great experience. The staff is attentive and welcoming, the dining room is always buzzing with laughter and people enjoying their experience and the BBQ Shrimp has always been a favorite. My least few visits though, I've noticed the food quality wane a bit, and after last night, I may have to adjust my approach in the future. First off, Braden was our server, and despite his being super busy, he was on it, and we enjoyed his service. My partner LOVES their bread and butter, and Braden kept it coming. The bread and butter service is yummy, so proceed with caution so you don't eat too much before the apps and dinner arrive. For appetizers, we had the BBQ shrimp, crab cake and combination pan roast. All were excellent, but the crab cake had a different taste to it that I couldn't identify, but overall everything was great! Now, on to the entree...I often get the chicken Parmesan, and it's amazing!! Note - they have three Italian veal dishes (Marsala, Picatta and Parmesan) that you can opt for chicken instead. You get two pieces of veal per order, and when I've gotten the chicken Parmesan, there are two big pieces of chicken breast. Today, I changed it up and got the chicken Picatta. When the dish arrived, it looked a bit sad - one small piece of chicken and a poorly executed lemon butter caper sauce. Honestly, when I saw the dish, I thought they've just majorly downsized, and I was a bit disappointed because I hate seeing restaurants do that... maintain or raise prices, but decrease quality and quantity. For that reason, I didn't say anything immediately, but then the table next to me got my usual dish, chicken Parmesan, and they had two big pieces of chicken on their dish. It just made me wonder why would that dish get two pieces of chicken, the veal piccata would've been two pieces of veal, but why did I only get one small piece chicken with my dish? I pose the question to Braden upon paying the bill, and he said he would ask but it doesn't seem like he was able to connect with the Chef and ultimately told me that it was above his pay grade and apologized that he couldn't offer anything more. I wasn't expecting any type of financial compensation, but it would've been great for the Chef to answer to that or even the manager on duty, which he was around. I was quite tired and didn't want to make a big deal, but in the future, I would either never order that again or ask ahead of time to ensure I'm going to get the proper quantity. I just can't contend with getting one little piece of chicken when the the dish normally comes with two pieces of veal, which by all accounts costs more than chicken! I felt a little cheated. I didn't snap any pictures, but my husband brought me here for our 5th wedding anniversary, and it was such a delightful experience I wanted to share. They do a bread service but I wasn't impressed. Our mini loaf wasn't warm, and the butter pats were still fridge cold. We started with the crab cake appetizer. It's a single crab cake, but it's hefty enough to split. Besides being a chonky little thing, it was well-seasoned with tender, flaky crab bits. It was topped with a delicate drizzle of tangy sauce. Perfect to whet the appetite. Hubby got the gumbo, which was okra and shrimp. He felt it was a little spicy for his liking. I tasted it and it wasn't too much heat, but there was a spice flavor that was a little out of place for me. Also, at least one grain of the rice was a little hard. Nothing major but I'd probably pass on this in the future. They did kindly substitute the gumbo for the side dish on the entree, which I appreciated. He went with the small (6oz) filet for his entree; ordered mid-rare, arrived mid-rare. Although the cook temp was perfect, he noticed it was a little cool outside at service. My entree was the special of the night; redfish filet stuffed with crab and shrimp. Tender filet, and the stuffing was more crab and shrimp than filler. That's always a plus. My entree was also just warm. They also allowed me to substitute the veggie side for the creamed spinach. The creamed spinach came out steaming hot (maybe waiting on this is why our proteins were cooler). Topped with crumbs and steaming, I'd definitely recommend this side. I had the chocolate mousse for dessert. Giant portion of thick custard and topped with fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate crumbs. I couldn't get close to finishing it but the bites I had were the perfect end to a lovely meal. The dining room here is loud, but that's just the nature of it. Lots of folks come for celebration. During our service alone they had 3 birthday songs. Waitstaff is excellent. They keep your water full and the timing of service is perfect. read more

I prepared this dish on my own before coming to New Orleans, hoping to perfect my technique after seeing the masters produce it. But it was really disappointing. In fact, all of the dishes were. Disappointed on a Night That Was Meant to Be Special We were really looking forward to this evening--we all dressed up, especially my stepdaughter, who had been so excited for a nice dinner out. She looked beautiful and had been anticipating this night, which made the whole experience even more disappointing. Things started off okay. The atmosphere was nice, and our server seemed friendly at first. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer, and when it came out completely burnt, we had to send it back. Thankfully, the second round was much better. But everything went downhill from there. My husband ordered the fish and shrimp special, which was cooked well, but it came with no sides--and the server never mentioned that when we ordered. If he had, my husband would've definitely added something to round out the meal. My stepdaughter ordered pasta with chicken, which she said was fine. I originally wanted to try the turtle soup listed on the menu, but I had a feeling they wouldn't have it--and I was right. When I asked, the server said, "We might be out," and soon confirmed they were. I settled for the gumbo, which turned out to be bland and disappointing. I didn't say much at first, but when my husband tried it, he immediately said it was awful. To make matters worse, the server openly admitted that their gumbo is brought in from somewhere else and that the kitchen struggles with consistency. While I can appreciate honesty, that's not something a guest should hear during an already frustrating meal. We had planned to order a bottle of wine and enjoy the night, but everything went so poorly that we didn't even bother. At that point, we just wanted to finish our meal and leave as quickly as possible. Being a lifelong resident of New Orleans, it's surprising that I had never been to Pascal's Manale. I'd always heard it was one of those must-visit spots. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype. That said, I really appreciated the fresh French bread brought to the table--it was warm, and delicious. We came here to celebrate my Mom and Dad's birthday where they had their first date! They said it was just as delicious as they remembered! The restaurant is undergoing renovations right now, so there was a bit of an off putting smell when we first walked in, but thankfully moved quickly past that and the service and food more than made up for it. Our waiter was so sweet and he was very fun and helpful! The manager came over and chatted with us for about 15 minutes, he is a native and they are trying to update the restaurant. Very much hope it retains its old school charm though because I loved the look of the restaurant. We got the crab cakes, fried eggplant, combination pan roast, chicken parmigiana, shrimp fra diavolo, bbq shrimp, and veal piccata. We had not visited this restaurant in at least two decades. We pass it on the way to Magazine St., but just noticing it. Big mistake. Pascal Manale's is old New Orleans charm. The old beautiful bar, the oyster bar, and all the old memorabilia on the wall were great. While some recent reviews mentioned bad service, we experienced none of that. The bartender was fantastic and very friendly. The oyster man was also had a pleasant personality, as did our waitress. We ordered BBQ Shrimp as an appetizer so that all of our diners could taste the dish made famous by this restaurant. Their offering is milder than other versions found in the city. The fried Calamari was one of the best of that dish we have found... cayenne pepper in the batter. Veal Marsala and Veal Picatta were very enjoyable. I went to Pascal's for a celebratory lunch. My guest and I were really looking forward to this dining experience. This very popular New Orleans restaurant is full of Nostalgia from the many photos on the wall to the somewhat dated but charming decor. We were greeted immediately but it took a while for our order to be taken and for our food to actually come out. Our server was kind but maybe just a little overwhelmed even though it wasn't that busy. In any case, all was forgiven when the food finally came out because it was sooo yummy. I ordered the Frutta Del Mare, a pasta dish with red sauce and a ton of seafood. It was delicious and I had leftovers to enjoy for later. My guest had a lighter appetite and had a dozen of the charbroiled oysters and a ton of bread. The oysters were perfect. My father really encouraged us to come here. He had lived here for many years and advised us this was the place. In the maze of rooms we were seated in a smaller room in front, which was nice. It never felt crowded or noisy. Our server Susie eventually came around and was prompt to ask us if we wanted drinks and appetizers and the promise of warm bread. Ultimately their warm bread is bread in a white paper bag. It wasn't warm enough to melt butter. Each table was delivered the same white bag of bread. It really is wasteful to use so many bags when a traditional presentation of warm bread in. basket is more effective. We decided on cocktails and the Combination Remoulade, advertised as crab meat and shrimp topped with golden remoulade sauce and a ring of spicy cocktail sauce. For dinner I gave into the calling for Original Pascal's Barbeque Shrimp, the specialty of the house prepared in a spicy and tangy sauce. My wife had the special, red fish stuffed with crab and shrimp with a spicy cream sauce. It came with steamed veggies. The Combination Remoulade wasn't as promised. It was shrimp and crabmeat on lettuce with their version of remoulade. On the side a plastic dressing container with seafood sauce that wasn't spicy but rather tasted like they had opened a jar and poured it in. My wife liked the remoulade a lot. I thought it was pickle forward and tasted a lot like tartar sauce, which she likes as well. The biggest detractor for this was that the shrimp were not cleaned, the telltale black line down the back of each was still obvious. My wife's fish was nice, and a nice mix of flavors. The spicy element was jalapeño that appeared in small chunks in the cream sauce. Easy for her to avoid, but that telltale grassy taste was evident. On the side she had plain, unseasoned steamed vegetables. Clearly an afterthought since the literally like came out of the steamer and on to the plate without any thought to flavor. For my entree, the flavor of the shrimp sauce was delicious, but tangy is not a word I would use, and absolutely not spicy. Even my wife, a verified spice wimp, would not use the word spicy. The huge bummer here is that they charge you $28 for a plate of shrimp, offer you a bib and a pile of napkins, and bring you a bowl/plate of unprepared shrimp in liquid. Yeah, I knew what I was signing up for and ordered it anyway. I have peeled a lot of shrimp and crawfish in my life and none were this soupy or difficult. Peeling and deveining them all made my meal unappetizing and not worth it. It was tempting to sop up the sauce with bread, but there were so many legs and antenna and, like the remoulade, bits of shell. The thought of carrying that to my mouth on the bread made that much less tempting So, we have done it. We can check it off the list. We had bbq shrimp at Pascal's Menale. Happy to say I will leave tables for others in the future, I don't need to go back. read more

The food and choices on the menu were great. What we enjoyed most of all was the waiter named Eric. He was very attentive to our needs. But most of all, he was truly a pleasure and humorous to have as our waiter. When we return in October we will be requesting him. Excellent job. read more

A New Orleans institution, old school classic place. Theres a parking lot and easy to find. On the outside doesn't look like much but inside the place is huge. Gives old school vibes and good classic service from the staff. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Came for the barbecue shrimp, its a bit of work to eat but very tasty and unique flavor to new orleans. My favorite thing was actually the gumbo which was so rich in flavor. Management overbooked for Father's Day. They allowed walk ins for lunch /dinner and when we arrived for our 6:30 pm RESERVATION, we were informed that all of the veal dishes were unavailable. Veal is the largest part of their menu. We ordered filets that were so overcooked, they were inedible. We received our food 1 hour after being seated. The waiters did their best, but we had to wait for drinks, bread etc, Such a shame that we've lost another great New Orleans restaurant. read more
