This place was great! It's a little small but cozy and quiet inside. Definitely get an order of hummus because their bread is SO GOOD!! Also a fan of baba ganoush and theirs is excellent here. Portion size is decent, I honestly could've just shared an entree with someone because the bread filled us up so much to start. I got the Doner Sandwich and it was great! A tad bit dry, but the flavor was incredible and that bread..again, SO GOOD! The service was excellent as well. Such a friendly server and always made sure we had bread (did I mention I loved their bread??), water glasses were full, and that everything came out alright. The one downside is the parking. The website and Google listing says the restaurant closes at 9:30pm. Our party of 2 walk in at 8:45pm. There are about 5 tables with customers waiting and/or eating. The owner who is at the front lets us know that they close at 9:30pm. I reply "that's fine, table for 2." He rudely says "No you cant. We don't take dine in after 8:30pm. There's no time for us to make the food and serve you at the table. But you can order to go." This makes no sense to me because if you have the time to prepare the food to go, you can prepare the food for dine in. I was embarrassed because I was taking someone to dinner and had raved about Pasha's. I am appalled and although I love the food but I doubt if I would come back because of this incident. You should list that time restriction on your website or menu. read more

Good turkish food. The Super Secret Tuesday Night Happy Fun Time Dinner Club converged upon Pasha on 3/25/08 for an evening of yummy food. SSTNHFTDC members in attendance included LBTrippin', Missy Sweet Tea, Staul Wall, and Rossdaboss. We ordered Musakka (baked eggplant dish... yum), Iskander Kebob (yum), Doner Durem (yum), Babaganush, and the feta cheese egg rolls... all very yum yum. The restaurant is in a very cute house on University Dr approximately in between Rice Univ and the Rice Village. Came here for dinner a few weeks back with my workmates and had a great time! We were seated in the upstairs dining area and it was quite intimate (I think there was only one other group nearby) and it had a good, rustic feel. I didn't pay too much attention to the downstairs eating area because I was just passing through. Throughout the meal, the service was good and attentive. The food was very tasty as well, although I did feel like our platters were pretty meat-centric (I wouldn't want to eat so much meat every day!). That being said, I'm sure the restaurant has more veggie-friendly options as well. The beer selection was OK but not amazing - not a whole ton of choices. We enjoyed some wine as well and it was quite tasty. Overall, I can see myself coming back here with my workmates for another dinner out. read more

I have order catering and lunch from Pasha. I have ordered the Pasha Meze Platter which has a combination for 7 different plates. it's a great options to try a sample a few of their appetizers. My favorite from that platter are Lebni, tabuli, and Ezme salad. Of course, their humus is wonderful. I have ordered their falafel. It was filling and not too dry. I have also ordered chicken Adana. Chicken is very tender and goes great with their rice. My absolutely favorite thing about this restaurant, is their bread!! Omg!! The best tasting bread that is out there. Their dessert is something to have if you have a sweet tooth. Their flan is amazing and so is their baklava!! They are also a kosher friendly place. Hidden in a converted residential home, this little restaurant doesn't seem like much. However, Pasha won me over with its homey ambience and the charm that only a small family-owned business could bring. I had the stuffed eggplant, which was excellent! It was simple nutritious food that tasted very good. There was enough spice to make it flavorful, but not too much that the spice overpowered the natural flavors in the dish. The one problem I had was that I couldn't exactly tell what had tree nuts (walnuts, almonds, Pine nuts, etc) in it. I expect this when going to Mediterranean restaurants, but it can make ordering very nerve wracking when ingredients aren't clearly labeled. When I asked the server about the presence or absence of nuts in a dish, she graciously asked the chef and assured me there were no nuts in my entree. My mom brought me home some Turkish ravioli with lamb and yogurt sauce and some bread. I loved it. I could honestly eat like 30 of the raviolis. The lamb was minced up and the ravioli wrapper was perfect. There was a green colored dipping sauce with sesame that was very flavorful and not like one I've ever tried before. The bread is so airy and soft you could easily devour a whole basket before your meal arrives. That also tasted good with the green sauce. read more

I think this was my second time to ever eat Turkish food. And both times were at Pasha! It's a little tiny place in Rice Village. There are probably less than 10 tables in there so it's very quaint. I went here for lunch with 4 of my colleagues. I ordered the lunch special with Tabouli as my first course and the Chicken Kebabs as the second course. The Tabouli was fresh and delish! I love that stuff but I hate how the tiny pieces of chopped herbs get in my teeth! The Chicken Kebabs were AMAZING! Yummy, chunk pieces of marinated, juicy chicken. It was served with white rice, pickled cabbage, onions and a grilled tomato piece. I ate the chicken and the rice and some of the onions. I tried the pickled cabbage but wasn't a fan. They also serve bread and an olive oil dipping sauce. And at the end of the meal, they served hot tea with a sugar cube. I'm not much of a hot tea drinker but I thought that was a nice touch. My lunch including tax was only $11.90. Not too bad for Rice Village. Turkish. (a) Your favorite character from the film Snatch. (b) It is also deliciously seasoned cultural food that is presented in greatly fulfilling portion size. Full disclosure: since I moved to Houston I knew about this place but had always avoided it in favor of Istanbul Grill a block away because this place was perceived to be less casual. Poppycock. Balderdash. Claptrap even. I meow feel like that was a silly position to take seeing as there was no problem with me wearing baggy jeans and a hoodie (if any of the elite crowd remember Anna before she left us for New York, this was the hoodie she claimed made me look underdressed and "like a boxer" at the elite event at Flora & Muse.) Yes, I really dress to the nines on a date. There are two small (two person) tables outside. And the inside is more spacious than you would assume based on the four spot parking lot out front (with additional parking in the back.) If the weather is nice you would be a fool not to grab one of the two tables out there so you could enjoy the runners, bikers, and automocar drivers honking, slamming on their brakes, and pumping out awful music at levels that are entirely too loud. But no seriously, sitting outside in nice weather is good. Following up on my review for Pondicheri I am starting to feel like less and less of a peasant when I take my food and drink outside. No longer feeling like a stable boy, meow I feel like the world is my restaurant, almost like in NYC when my pretzel and churros follow me everywhere I go with a steady supply of delicious in my hand. Another benefit of eating outside is that it is definitely more casual. Everyone else walking inside was much older and officious looking. Therefore a conversation chiefly centering around the videogame Grand Theft Auto was much better suited for outside rather than the monocle-busting affair it might have caused were we eating inside. The manager and the waitress both gave great service even though we were the only ones outside. She refilled the water quickly, brought out the appetizer quickly, the bread appeared instantly and she even offered bread refills. And the entrees were not far behind. Then we had the bill and were free to move on. Good service. A review of their food in three acts. The complimentary bread: ohmyglob says the Lumpy Space Princess. This is so soft and squishy and delicious it is the best thing ever. It completely trumps the bread at a Carrabba's or the tortillas at a Chuy's or any other breadlike concoctions that first popped into your mind when you realized we are talking about bread as an entire meal. Because like at Red Lobster you could make a meal out of those biscuits just as much as you could make an entire meal out of this bread. The dolmas appetizer: this does compute says BMO. It was a bit juicier and had different fillings than I have come across, but overall I quite enjoyed it and would definitely get it again. $6 gets you 4 of them. They are normally sized, drippy, salty, and wet. The rice is packed in there, so much so it was doing a Chipotle-burrito-bust on one of the four. But that is a good thing. Definitely a strong appetizer choice if you like rice. Do not order if you do not like rice. Ali Nazik entree (sauteed tender small baby lamb cubes, served on a bed of roasted eggplant puree with rice on the side) could best be summed up in internets-speak as amazeballs, or more properly stated by Finn the Human (or Frank the Human Boy if you have approximate knowledge of many things) then this dish is ALGEBRAIC! Everything works so well on this plate it is impossible to know where to start. The lamb is the most tender, well-seasoned, and delicious I have had at any place Turkish or otherwise. And I like eating Mary's little friends. The eggplant not only looks and smells delicious but it integrates so well into the dish, just as good as the hummus with shawarma meat buried in there at Tarboosh. And it is a huge portion. I could not finish it all and they offered to wrap it up to go. The food here is just better than Istanbul Grill. I wish I had given it a try in the long long ago. read more

A cute little place! It looks kind of shabby from the outside, but it's actually really nice and fancy inside (my definition of fancy = tablecloths + wine glasses + candle, haha). I think we were greeted by the manager, who was very welcoming and courteous. Best part of dinner? Free pita bread! It's thicker than other ones I've had, but still good! Especially when it comes out hot and fresh. The bf and I devoured the bread with the small meze platter of appetizers which included hummus, ezme, baba ganoush, tabouli, eggplant salad, a dolma and lebni. For $11, it was pretty pricy, but everything was really good. I especially loved the baba ganoush-- it was so creamy and not too garlicky. I think it's my favorite baba ganoush I've had ever! All the dips were pretty mild in terms of the garlic (which I appreciated) but still flavorful. Sooo delicious. I just wish they gave more :(. We also got the doner kebab entree, and it was okay. The meat seemed kind of dry to me so I wasn't a huge fan. Dipping it in the tzatziki sauce helped though. I would come back just for the baba ganoush... Gluten-Free Review Excellent Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant, however they do not offer a gluten-free menu but the waitress was very informative of what options are gluten-free and the shish ka bobs are, and not marinated in soy sauce. The entrance and parking is very small and the inside is decorated sort of like your actually in Turkey, but clean and smells pleasant. We got an appetizer of hummus which was excellent and some of the best I've ever had and I used some lettuce to nom it down since they do not offer gluten-free bread or chips. Had some Turkish coffee to drink and that stuff will give you that BAM you need and it's very excellent. For entree got the mixed kabob plate with chicken and beef medium rare. The chicken was okay but the beef is what had all the flavor and stood out to me, especially when you take that perfect bite mixed with pickled lettuce, rice and some hummus. Dessert was another Turkish coffee and a pistachio rice pudding which was gluten-free and let me tell you excellent! I had it at like midnight in my fridge and it was so tasty and deliciouso! Valentine's Day dinner here (yeah I'm perpetually playing catch-up!) was a nice and quiet experience, which is exactly the way I wanted it. I actually intended to do absolutely nothing for Valentine's because the crowds, oh the massive herds of couples, being all gross and couple-y. Then boyfriend suggested that we should at least attempt to make reservations somewhere peaceful. Pasha showed up during a brief search, so he implored me to research further. I called and made 6:30-ish reservations, after thoroughly inquiring about the level of busy-ness. Once we walked into Pasha, I was a tad surprised to find it mostly barren. This would seemingly be a perfect spot for a Valentine's dinner as it's a nicely intimate venue. The interior kind of imparted a dimly lit cozy sort of feel. I immediately begin to feel apprehensive that perhaps the food would be terrible . . . We bravely proceeded, ordered ourselves a bottle of wine (I swear the upcharge on mediocre wines at restaurants is a little out of control, but what can you do?) and the babaganush, which competent, although nothing out of the ordinary. I opted for the Stuffed Eggplant, which I was assured was suitably vegan. I think the boyfriend had the special, some omnivore dish, maybe fish? The food arrived within a reasonable amount of time and it was quite good. The eggplant sauce did look suspiciously slightly creamy, but I bit my tongue and convinced myself to just enjoy it because it was Valentine's Day. I'm considerate like that! The portion sizes were perfect for one sitting, but the presentation wasn't the prettiest. Service did lag every so often, despite the restaurant being pretty low volume. All in all we did enjoy dinner and remarked that Pasha had been a wise Valentine's choice. We have driven by Pasha numerous times since then and haven't felt compelled to re-visit, so although it was decent, I can't say it's something we would have sought out had it not been for the fear of overcrowding elsewhere. read more

Places with free bread and olive oil dip always gets me because I'm kind of a carb-o-holic. You name it, I'm there - Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, Orpoto, Theos, and the list goes on. Pasha makes no exception. Their bread isn't by far the best, but it's still spectacular and addicting. It arrives to the table warm and with a side of olive oil infused with herbs. The bread has a slightly crispy texture on the outside, and soft chewy form on the inside. Dip that into the olive oil or hummus and you got yourself a winner winner hummus dinner. From their $10.99 combination lunch special menu, I ordered the eggplant hummus plate with chicken kabob as the main course. The eggplant hummus was surprisingly delicious (for a cold dish). It had a good amount of eggplant flavor but without the natural blandness of eggplant by itself. It's mixed with other goodness and is topped with a single olive to let you know it's Mediterranean (and it means business). The chicken kabob plate came with rice, onions, and sliced pickled red cabbage. The chicken wasn't dry, the rice was cooked properly, and the pickled cabbage was a nice touch to restart the palate with a sour kick. The dish as a whole was great, but one downfall was that it really lacked enough protein since there were only four measly little chicken bites. Overall though, the bread, rice, and hummus dip still made up for the lack of protein and turned it into a satisfying and delicious meal. Service was very nice and attentive. Our orders were picked up and served quickly. Each interaction was friendly and polite. There's not much more to ask other than that. Good job guys. Interior (and parking lot) is very cozy. It reminds me of a house that was converted into a restaurant where the living room was expanded to add tables. Despite the size, I can still imagine large parties coming here for a nice meal. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Each table has a small flower that adds a pleasant touch. Overall, the good food, service, and cozy ambiance earns my rating of four stars. I live very close to this restaurant and I wish I had tried it sooner. I am obsessed with the appetizer platter, Pasha Meze Platter. It includes Humus, Ezme, Babaganush, Tabuli, Eggplant Salad, Dolma and Lebni. I often just eat this for dinner in the small size. Small is good for two or three people (or let's be real - one) and large is good for four or more. I like the red Turkish wine and the complimentary warm bread and dipping sauce they serve when you arrive. I also just tried the sigara borek hot appetizer. It is basically fried cheese rolls with feta and they are warm and melty and amazing and I dipped them in honey. I could have eaten hundreds of these for appetizer or dessert or literally alone with nothing else. Wow. Other info: Nice atmosphere for a date night but doesn't feel too fancy to go for a casual meal either and it's quiet. I always get the lunch special chicken kabobs that comes with either a choice of lentil soup or salad, I also will ask for a side of the yogurt sauce to dip my chicken in...I prefer the soup because the salad is a little too sour for me. I also always get a small turkish tea and will at least get 3 of 4 refills throughout the whole meal. The location obviously is nice, but parking really, really sucks! The front has about four spaces, and the back lot is super tight, so I suggest find parking around the street and just walk to the restaurant. Went here for a friend's birthday this past weekend, and the place looked small from outside and I was wondering how we were all going to fit in this place, but the hostess brought us to the second floor, and who knew that it was spacious up there. Nice atmosphere for a party. Service can be A LOT better. I get that we were a big group, but there were also 2 waitresses but they still regrouped after taking all our orders, and then went by to each of us to confirm our orders, what a waste time, and I was already super hungry, and the bread basket wasn't even out yet. I must say the food was pretty good though, and so were the prices for this kind of food. I had the combination platter of lamb and beef kabobs and it was delicious, I highly recommend that if you don't know what to order or are not feeling daring. I ordered the lunch special of red lentil soup, rice and lamb with a side of pickled cabbage, for about $9.50 total. They also provided complimentary pita bread and olive oil dip--a nice touch! The lentil soup had a good flavor, but wasn't the best I've ever had. My lamb was my favorite part of the meal and cooked just right. I had asked for well-done but it didn't come out all tough and chewy---it was tender, a little smokey in flavor, and cooked all the way through just the way I like it! My friend ordered the yogurt drink and didn't really like it---it was like drinking plain yogurt blended with water....but I'm sure it's very healthy? My other friend ordered fried cheese wrapped in phyllo dough and it was absolutely divine--crunch, chewy, and CHEESY! Other people ordered the pizza and enjoyed it, which I thought was interesting since I've never tried Turkish pizza. We came here on Sunday for brunch around 11:30 and we were the first customers of the day. We browsed through the menu and, lucky us, their lunch special runs through Sunday! The lunch special is $10.99 and includes two courses - an app and an entree. My brunch date got the eggplant salad (yum!) and the chicken shish kabobs. Both were delicious. The eggplant salad was refreshing and flavorful and the chicken had just enough seasoning and wasn't dry. The chicken came with rice, pickled cabbage, and a grilled tomato. I got the hummus and the kofte kabob, which is ground up lamb. The hummus came with the yummiest bread (I could've just eaten this as a meal) and the lamb kabobs came with the same sides as the chicken kabobs. Although we were too full for desserts, I would have definitely given their sweets a try after the great meal we had. The place was quite cosy but with limited parking, so I would probably recommend parking by the shopping center in Rice Village and walking over unless you have crazy good luck with getting great parking spots. Compared with Istanbul Grill, this place seems a little less authentic, but I only came here once, so don't take my word for it. Plus, there aren't as many evil eyes talismans at this restaurant. I'm not Turkish but I know some Turkish people who stated this in regards to their food and not my comment on their choice of decorations so take it up with them, and looking through their menu, I am inclined to agree. I'm vegetarian (no onion, garlic, leeks, or chives) so when I go to a Turkish restaurant, I'm usually limited to a pide. It was the same here. I got their veggie pide. Not very traditional (at Istanbul Grill, I would be having their cheese pide), or so I've been told, but good to have something more substantial and to give the impression of a healthy-ish meal. The pide was pretty good, but then again, all you have is dough (not thin though - I prefer my dough on the thin/crispy side, but I only ever got this thin, crispy dough pide at a Turkish restaurant up in Indiana) topped with cheese and veggies. As one that was born in Turkey I was looking forward to eat lunch with a friend in this restaurant. I haven't been in Turkey for over 45 years and this food always reminds me my childhood. I was somewhat disappointed though. We ordered several traditional Turkish dishes and these were all a miss The Cacik which is a traditional first was tasteless with way too much dill in it. The Lahmacun, which according to the menu is made fresh on spot, was clearly made from frozen. The most disappointing was the Iskender entree, which is traditionally made whole from lamb. The menu states it is made from beef and lamb, but there was no lamb in it at all. Lamb has a very distinctive taste and aroma, and the dish had no lamb at all, despite te waiters' effort to convince us there is. I was disappointed and probably will not return. read more

I had super high hopes for Pasha after reading numerous amazing reviews from the beloved Yelp Community. I think I may have either order something terrible or perhaps the chef was having a bad day - not sure, but I'm willing to try this place again. I met up with a friend since we we were both craving Turkish food. We were newbies to Pasha, and so we went for it. When seated, we were brought delicious warm bread - a literal warm welcome. We both commented that we had never tried Turkish wine, and there were 2 on the wine menu from Turkey. We both received our white wines, and mine, frankly, tasted like Chardonnay and hers like a Riesling. No complaints, we were ready to order. I ordered the Iskender Kebab, which is supposed to be grilled, marinated lamb and beef with tomato sauce over toasted pita bread and side of yogurt, but what came out was a bit different. I basically got a LARGE dish with pieces of pita bread cut up into my Iskender kebab and yogurt on the side. It looked beautiful. However, my first bite was more fat than meat, so, I chewed as much as possible and inconspicuously spit it out into my cloth napkin. Gross, I know, but I had nowhere else to place it! My second bite was delicious - tender meat and a piece of pita bread that I didn't expect. Third bite just like the first. As I tried to trek through my meal, almost every other bite was more fat than meat. I inquired with my friend on her meal, and noticed she had nearly cleaned her plate of Yogurt Kebab dish, which was similar in ingredients to mine. She loved her meal and had a great time. I was sad. I wanted to enjoy this place, but I'll scour the reviews again and perhaps order something else next time I visit. Just a word to the wise: if you're like me and cannot tolerate overly fatty meat, then stay away from the Iskender Kebab and let me know what you ordered that you enjoyed. read more

Amazing spot. Great food, welcoming environment, and friendly staff. Have been multiple times and am always impressed. Baba ganoush was amazing and the lamb chops were perfect. Highly, highly recommend. read more
