My first impression of the dealership was that it was well maintained, neat, and friendly staff. Came here to get a few recalls fixed on my current vehicle but it was my first time ever coming to the dealership. I've had to visit twice within the past month, so I think I can give fair feedback at this point. Both times the service took longer than expected, but I was provided with loaner cars each time. A definite plus. I've been stuck without another vehicle before while waiting for car repairs and it is not fun so I really appreciated that. CJ, Jennifer, and Marcus have helped me. All friendly and pro active staff, who worked to get things done. They were very helpful and helped everything get squared away. A mechanic (I didn't get his name) spotted a major concern on my first visit and I am also very grateful to him for being thorough. I also love the video inspections, and would encourage all dealerships to adapt this. This last visit I had the loaner for 11 days due to them waiting for a replacement part. When I received the loaner it had 3/4 a tank of gas. I returned it with slightly less than 3/4 tank as I put gas in just before leaving my side of town. Yes, the gas was brought back with slightly less gas than received but not much. I was charged $39 for this. I am aware of the tank size and the current cost of gas, no argument there. But let this be a warning to anyone returning a loaner to make sure you know exactly how much gas was in before you left and return it with the exact amount or you will be charged. read more

Update: it definitely was passport Mazda. Of course I'm not in the system because the sales person did not give us a chance. I'm sure passport Mazda dealership is great, but our experience was not good. We entered the dealership just for 10 minutes and the sales guy just looked us up and down, not giving us a chance to even look at cars. He never took our names or ID. He was not interested in selling us a car and even questioned why we were looking for a vehicle that day. We really were in the market to buy this particular day. We did go to Honda in Fairfax and bought an SUV there. Nothing against Mazda. We'd like both Mazda and Honda we just chose Mazda first, but the sales guy was not interested in selling us the vehicle or taking our information at all. That's why we're not in the system. read more

I made an appointment in advance and spoke to a scheduler at length about what was wrong with my vehicle. That person said they spoke to a mechanic who was able to give me an estimate of how long the service would take. I made the appointment at a time that matched that estimate. I had been at the dealership for FOUR HOURS when it came out that the technicians HAD NO IDEA what my appointment was for - even thought I gave a detailed description of the issues when I made the appointment. Instead of finding out why I was there, the technicians had done a 3 hour long warranty-covered computer update and a general check of the car - while I sat in the waiting room thinking they were fixing the problem I was there about. Eventually I was informed that I had actually spoken to someone at a call center and they probably just didn't send over the information I had provided and no one bothered to ask why I brought my car in - in fact I was told they knew. They were very flippant and casual about all of the time I had wasted. They said this communication breakdown between call center and dealership was a common problem. I would suggest that rather than outsourcing jobs to save money, you have the people who customers speak to be local and onsite, so customers, mechanics and other staff are all on the same page. This was a very disappointing experience. 4 hours after arriving, when I told them why I was there because I realized they did not know - the update I came for took about 10 minutes. However, in the end they told me they simply did not know why my engine light was on and that my 2016 Mazda, that has NEVER had problems, is only worth $1,500 and that to figure out why the light was on would cost me $800 plus parts and they were SURE that it would need further diagnostic tests because they already knew the $800 "recommended" work was not really the problem. I was told that my car with less than 100,000 miles on it was basically value-less with the engine light on ($1,500, but they would give me $2,000 towards a trade-in), so I should consider a $30k new car or, even a $22k-$25k used car. It was a grotesque display of what a company can do when they hold all the cards - they are the only ones who can make the light go off and they basically told me it wasn't worth doing, because they were definitely going to charge me THOUSANDS of dollars to diagnose and fix it, so I might as well, just trade it in. I LOVED my Mazda. I had planned to drive it for another 10 years and then some day, when that one was done, I would buy another Mazda because I LOVED MY CAR- and the service Mazda provided - so much. Now, I will drive my car until it dies and then I will invest my money in a company that doesn't prey on people at desperate moments ... a company that will make an honest effort to help its customers and do the right thing. Mazda, in my opinion, is no longer that company. J.J. - the customer service representative who was in charge of delivering all of this news - treated me with respect and kindness. After being at the dealership for FIVE HOURS, she finally offered me a loaner car, which I used for 2 days. I have nothing positive to say about the "appraiser" who called me within 20 minutes of leaving the dealership and the salespeople who have been calling me continually since then. If a Mazda with less than 100,000 miles - that has never had mechanical problems - is worth $1,500, why in the world would I ever buy another Mazda?? read more

Before going here I had been to carmax and Honda to check trade in offers and I must tell you all the prices were similar. If you do not want to go through the hassle of updating ownership of your old car then I recommend trading in with the dealership where you plan to buy your car. Also ask them if they match a better price if you received a better price from other dealers. Everything went smoothly. They met the expectations. 3 stars because they did not give a good discount offer when compared with Rockville dealership and also they did not give free first service. My friend got a better deal at the Rockville location. Service has been decent. Free washing they offered is alright. Nothing special. I was told that my mats would be vacuumed but when I checked my car it wasn't vacuumed. Also there was a small scratch on my door. No Pressure! I was online and I saw a certified preowned Mazda CX-5 2023. I was in love and I sent over my information. Rafael called me and next thing I know I'm looking at a 2024 Mazda Cx-5 CE. Requested a price on a specific vehicle, all I got was a run around and a lot of boiler plate emails from about a dozen people which not only didn't give me the info I requested but didn't add any value at all to my car shopping experience just wasting my time. Trying to buy a new car in August of 2022 is a shit show. There are 3 types of car dealerships these days: The good: No markups, just MSRP The bad: No markups, BUT, mandatory useless underbody coating which costs $1500 or more. The ugly: Markups! (serious charging $4000 markup on a $25,000 car is insane) Passport Mazda is the good dealership. Actually, I think all Password dealerships do not charge any kind of markups (as told by the people working at the dealership). I worked with Tonya and she's been the most patient and helpful. We bought a used CX-5 from Passport in November. A few weeks later we noticed a cigarette smell. They played dumb and promised to get it out...the cleaning didn't work. They had also promised to change the cabin filter. On a hunch I checked and they had not. When changing it I found an old registration card stuck behind the glove box. The car had been a rental before we purchased it. So they hadn't disclosed the smoking or the rental status at the time of sale. Worse, we needed new brakes and rotors within 5 months of buying it, which somehow passed their inspection. Passport is not a trustworthy dealership. read more

I bought a 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring with 38k in November of 2022 from Passport Mazda. Within a week I noticed the smell of cigarette smoke in the car, particularly on warm days. I reached out to Adrian the salesman from Passport Mazda who assured me the car had not been smoked in but offered to professionally clean it and replace the cabin filter. That helped some, but it still comes back. Fast forward to April of 2023. I got the car serviced for its normal 45k (it was only 43,300, but I was going out of town) cycle at another dealership. They find that the cabin filter is filthy and the rear brake rotors are so rusted and pitted they need to be replaced. I'm shocked. I check the filter myself...it was dark grey and filthy. It was clear that the Passport service had never changed it as promised by Adrian. I reached out to the salesman who sold me the car. He assured me the brake issue is just a sales job by the 2nd dealer to drum up business. So, I bring it into Passport to inspect. Yep, the rear rotors needed to be replaced immediately. Plus, the rear pads and all 4 tires were so low they needed to be replaced immediately. Furthermore, the tire walls were dry rotten and had not be rotated correctly so there was a wobble. How did all of this make it through Passport's sales group and through the state inspection by Passport of Alexandria!?!? Four tires, cabin and engine filters, a brake flush, rear rotors and pads...within six months of purchase. Not to mention the smell of cigarette smoke. This should never happen to anyone. Kudos to the service department who found the problems, tried to help me with current deals/discounts, and for their excellent hospitality. I clearly got hosed on this Passport purchase by $1.5-2.5k in repairs plus the inflated purchase price due to the car having been smoked it. I would never buy a car from Passport Mazda again. read more

Decent enough spot and the salesperson was OK, though the spot wasn't very welcoming overall. One thing that stood out - apparently due to "recent thefts" I couldn't even test drive the Mazda with the key even though they had a copy of my drivers license and had much of my other personal information. (Test drove the car by myself without the key.) Didn't seem like the best way to sell a car - ended up buying the same car with another dealer (Brown's Alexandria Mazda in Alexandra, VA) the next day who was much more welcoming (and actually let me take the key with me on my test drive)! The prices there weren't bad but will be hesitant to go back there in the future given the lack of trust for a simple 10 minute test drive. read more

I just had the worst experience at Passport Mazda. I went there to address an open recall on my car, which was purely a software update. I was told that it would take 1.5-2 hours so I intentionally made an early appointment in hopes of getting in and out. Morning of, I was running late and called to make sure they could still fit me in for my appointment. I was told that they could. I arrived, handed my keys / car over, and waited patiently for 2 hours. At the 2 hour mark, I inquired about my car. It took approx. 30 minutes to get an answer / see my car, and it turned out they hadn't started the update. In fact, they hadn't even looked at my car!! I waited 2.5 hours for the worst service possible (aka NO service) and they didn't even have the decency to tell me that there was a delay. If I hadn't inquired, I probably would have been there all day. This was unacceptable and a huge waste of my time. I was hoping that Passport Madza would become my place for service going forward but I can't imagine myself returning there after this terrible service. read more

OK, so as a long-time DC resident, I did the unthinkable: I bought a car. Yup! I felt like such a real adult. (I'm on the far side of 30.) The buying was a dance. I expected that. We waited. And waited. And waited until we could settle on the offer we needed. And hey, it doesn't hurt that they have terrific coffee (who knew?) and have really lovely salespeople and staff in general. It's a nice dealership, so it's not the worst place to play the waiting game if you're looking to negotiate. Carlos, my sales rep, was fantastic and is an all-around great guy. He's been quick and accessible post-buy when I have questions (and I have--like I said, I'm new at this!). And when I went to get my first maintenance inspection/treatment, he made a point to say hello and ask how I've been and how the car is doing. From the service side for maintenance, the team couldn't have been kinder. Matthew, who coordinates the service with the crew, was incredibly kind and transparent about costs, services to be performed, status, etc. (The crew also has an auto-text to keep you updated on your status.) My routine service (at the 10K mile mark) was about 1.25 hours all told. If you prefer not to wait in the dealership, they will pay for your Lyft to and fro. I can't believe I'm writing a review for a car dealership, but here you have it: Passport Mazda is the place to be if you're in the market for a zippy Mazda, new or used. I had to stop by for service today and while waiting in the customer lounge and looking at vehicles, Tanya approached me and asked if I had any questions or if I'd like to take a test drive, to let her know. Even though she knew I was here for service, she took the initiative to be proactive, but most importantly had a positive and outgoing attitude. The other sales representatives didn't even inquire as they assumed I was just here for service (as I overheard them). I'm not sure about others when they visit car dealerships, but when buying my next Mazda, it would definitely be with Tanya based off of the short interaction I had with her. I purchased a used car. I learned the hard way my experience was horrible. I had my financing before I looked. The dealership was insistent they could provide better rates. They couldn't. I was told they could do a "soft credit check" that would not affect my credit. They lied. They did a hard check four times, impacting my credit report for two years. I didn't find this out until later that evening when I got a notice from the credit bureau. Next, as while I was signing transaction documents, I was shown a quick review of the CARFAX. I was told the car was in a minor accident and they held onto to the papers and said I would have a full copy with all the papers combine. They didn't. When I got home, I pulled the report myself and it reflected the car was in a moderate accident and buyer should have inspected. Also, the report showed there were two major recalls on the vehicle and now I have to get it service to determine if it was corrected or not. Worst experience ever! The car is a LEMON! I was sold a 2017 Hyundai Sonata less than 60 days ago. The manager acted like he was giving me a deal. Fast forward to today and I've had to dish out money for new brakes, rotors, and now wheel bearings AND THE ISSUE STILL ISN'T FIXED (constant thumping/clunking sound when I drive)! I've tried to get the manager on the phone and I never receive a call back. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had with a dealership and I urge anyone considering this place to tread carefully. $800 PLUS later I've had to come out of my pocket with and I don't have hard tags on the car yet.
