I loved the whole experience at Pastaria. It's a unique, modern Italian restaurant that absolutely nails their pastas and pizzas. We had a little group here and the service was great -- timely and with great recommendations. I punted the pasta decision to her and she said try the Pistachio Ravioli (pistachio, mint, lemon brown butter, Grana Padano) and it was very good, and unique. I'd say if you like pistachios at all, jump on this but if not, you're taking a gamble as it's has some strong, particular flavors. The pizzas here were fan-freaking-tastic. The classic Italian style pizzas cooked in a 900 degree oven with perfect bubbles in the crust, a perfectly slight chew, an an excellent flavor. The quality was equally evident with the Italian bread they brought out, I could've gorged on that fresh-baked bread for my entree to be honest. I have been to Pastaria for breakfast, lunch and dinner and each meal has been fantastic. The food is always delicious and the service is wonderful. To make it even better, they are extremely kid friendly as well. If you go for dinner on the weekend, be prepared to wait. It's definitely worth it though. Ok so the wait is absurd, but every time I go, I understand why people put up with it. You really can't go wrong here. Tonight I went for Chitarra al Pomodoro - aka spaghetti with marinara, only better. Very tasty and a generous portion size. We also split the bruchetta appetizer... probably tasted so good because I was starving from our 1.5 hr wait but hey... its Friday night. At least I knew to expect it thanks to the no wait app. Of course we had to round out the meal with gelato -- also a win. After generously letting me try four different flavors (ok I know... but I love ice cream and they all sounded so good!) I settled on a seasonal/rotating one. YUM. I do have to say I think the menu is a little overpriced, which keeps me from coming frequently but every once and a while I'll splurge. I've never had a bad meal at Pastaria. I don't think it's possible to. They're good for every meal of the day! Their lunch specials of a pasta and a salad are a great deal. I recommend getting the shaved kale and the bolognese. But again, you really can't go wrong! The first time I went I got the risotto balls and now they're a must each visit. How could you not like risotto and cheese fried into balls? Try them...you won't regret it! For brunch I recommend the baked eggs. The flavor is delicious and they serve it in a mini skillet! If you've somehow managed to save room for dessert, try the gelato or the tiramisu. On January 9th a friend of mine and I had lunch at this wonderful restaurant. Pastaria is one of the most beautiful restaurant I have been in lately and all the photos on the walls are awesome! The restaurant was not very busy most likely because of it being around 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon. My friend ordered a salad and a half sandwich which was on the lunch special. He loved it and actually finished the entire portion. I had the Italiano Cubano! It was so big! If they hadn't cut it in half it would have been hanging off the plate! It was very good but I could only eat about a quarter of it because of the size. (It was a great lunch the next day!) Overall it was a amazing experience and I can't wait to come back for Dinner and this time I'll bring a big appetite! 10/10 will be back again for sure! P.S. Came here for my fiancé's birthday dinner and everything was amazing! I ordered the broccolini, risotto balls, and the pistachio ravioli. Bread came before the entrees-which was hot and fresh. It was served with two different olive oils (one was spicy, the other was regular) and grated parm. Everything from the vibe to the food was 10/10. After the meal I was expecting to be super bloated and heavy feeling but surprisingly I wasn't at all. Next time I go back I want to try their gelato, I believe it's homemade. Really enjoyed my time at Pastaria, we went on a Wednesday night and it was extremely busy and did not seem loud at all. I am a big white sauce or cream sauce over red and we both ordered the Ciceo E Pepe. The bread was also fresh and warm which was a wonderful touch. We came here the day after Thanksgiving for a family dinner, celebrating my niece's 11th birthday. We were a large party, about 15. My sister called ahead and was assured that if we arrived at five we would be seated without a problem (they had been before and knew the place often had a wait). We showed up early and the place was already full (which I took as a good sign- gotta be good food, right?) and we were told a 45-1hr wait. Despite the 5 children we had with us, we decided to stick it out and wait- my niece had her heart set on the bread and pasta. After 45 minutes, we returned. That 45 minute wait turned into an hour and a half wait. They made plenty of cash off the drinks we ordered at the bar while waiting and waiting and waiting. After being sat at an overcrowded table we waited again. At this point the kids are "sooooo hungry!!". We are each given one slice of bread. The dipping sauce and parm were very good- but we were all very hungry. What happened to a basket of bread for a table of 15? The bread here is so special- only one slice per person. I ordered the minestrone soup- FYI NOT SOUP. There were maybe two beans in it (which they name much fancier on the menu, everything on the menu sounds oh so very fancy). Honestly this soup tasted like canned diced tomatoes with Italian seasoning and a splash of olive oil. I was really hungry at this point but it was just spiced tomatoes. There was no broth to speak of. To our server's credit she comped us the 8$ soup when she saw I barely ate it. The kids meals arrived about 10 minutes before any of the adult meals(spread out arrival there, poor planning for such pricey place). We were glad the kids finally had food but then they just had to wait around till the kitchen gradually caught up to the rest of the table. I am not exaggerating when I say it took 20 minutes for the entire table to be served their entrees. No one was really impressed with their meal- good, sure, but not great. They all knew I "yelped" and asked me to express how poor our experience was here. Our server was very nice. Unfortunately, a nice server doesn't make up for such an overpriced, poorly executed establishment. If I had to sum this place up- if there's a wait it's not worth it. Also despite the kindness of the server I expect A LOT more for the price. We left disappointed and annoyed- exactly how you should feel after a nice indulgent night out, right? Go for date night- perhaps they can handle a party of two. I'm a pretty positive yelper... But I stand by 1 star. What a fun great place for couples (or families!) They have outdoor seating where noise travels freely above your head if you want to avoid children's screams and have a more quiet dining experience. Great waiters, great staff! Lots of parking including garage. It has a very casual ambiance. We got there fairly early, and lucked out with no wait time!Now to our drinks and food. They have good beer choices, wine, and bar drinks. My Italian beer was just perfect. They have a tri-bowl with olive oil, parmesan type of cheese, and a chili oil (I think) where you can prepare your own dipping oil for the bread. So that was a cute start, play with that and nibble before the meal. That cheese is real, and real good. We ordered some starters and they were really good! Brussel sprouts and they were phenomenal, and the cauliflower had a delicious lemony taste with pine nuts; it was one of the best we have had! I looked this restaurant on Yelp & i found amazing reviews, so we decided to check it out. Upon coming into the restaurant, you see the kitchen & chefs hard at work. The entire decor is very inviting & bright. We got sat down very close to others, which wasn't very comfortable but it worked. The menu itself has many delicious choices from pizza made with homemade pepperoni(pictured), pasta(also pictured), soup and salads & various freshly juiced drinks. I was so impressed with the way the menu was setup & how easy it was to decide what to pick. We ordered the Italian ramen, & the white noodles which i don't remember the name of, and pepperoni pizza with mushrooms. My friend got the fresh squeezed grapefruit juice & i got tomato juice. The grapefruit juice was SO delicious. My rating on the pizza is 5 stars ++++. The pepperonis had so much flavor & the crust was perfectly crispy. The noodles get a 3 star for me because the cheese overpowered the taste & the kitchen forgot to include chicken in it. From what i saw, the Italian ramen was very delicious but there was not much difference from what other ramen tastes like. The reason why I'm giving Pastaria a four star rating is because service wasn't the best. The waitresses and waiters seemed very out of it & rushed. I have way too many amazing things to say about Pastaria, so if you know you won't make it to the end of this review, just know that this place is absolutely phenomenal and you should go there at this very moment. For those of you who would like to hear of Pastaria's wonder, where do I even start!? The food. Service and ambiance are good things (and both are top notch at Pastaria) but the food is everything. We started with the crispy risotto balls, and I wish I could eat them daily. Imagine the best mozzarella stick you've had times a million in deliciousness. Then they give you a huge piece of crusty on the outside, fluffy on the inside bread with oil, parm & chili oil. SO. GOOD. Then I faced the dilemma of pizza or pasta, so my husband and I got both: The pizza of the day and the toasted spaghetti and clams. The pizza was really good- the crust was the best part! But we were fighting over that pasta, oh my Lord it was so good. You can tell it's fresh, made in house pasta and the toasted flour in it brings a unique, nutty flavor. This place is basically perfect- killer atmosphere, great for families or a date night, upscale, but not stuffy, and amazing service. Oh Pastaria. I wanted to like you more... I've been hearing this restaurant's praises for a good little minute over the last couple of years and couldn't wait to see what the fuss was about. I finally made my way there this past Friday for lunch. The place was packed but there were still some empty tables sprinkled throughout the dining room. I waited a while for the host to greet me, but he was nowhere to be found. So I just stood there waiting, and waiting. Then he finally showed up and took me to my table. The restaurant is very loud.The tables are very close together. At one point, I found myself in the splash zone as my waiter spilled some water on my foot while refilling the glasses of my neighboring table. He didn't notice, didn't apologize, and I didn't confront him about it. The people at his table did notice however and looked down at my foot and the small puddle on the floor left behind. Le sigh... I ordered the lunch special of the Puttanesca with green salad. I failed to read on the menu what was in the salad, otherwise I would not have ordered it. It had apples and nuts, which I'm not a fan of either in my salad really. However, I'm sure for someone who likes a salad with that combo, they'd be in hog heaven at seeing it offered as an included side salad. I wish that the menu gave more descriptions of some of these "basic" pasta dishes. Not all of us are Italian or have eaten the "finest" varieties of pastas ever to know what some of the dishes were, so having descriptions in the menu would have been a great idea.Luckily between my waiter and Google, I figured out what was being served on the lunch menu. I know that the restaurant is going for more of a stream-lined, simple, and elegant menu, but please inform me what you're serving me. Thanks. The Puttanesca seemed to true to the recipe, and all of the necessary elements were present in the dish. Pastaria offers fresh complimentary bread, which is kept and carved at a table in the middle of the dining room. After finishing my first piece of bread, I wanted to ask for more. I took a phone call while waiting and before I could stop her, a busser came through and took my plate without a second thought. I flagged my waiter down shortly after to bring me more bread and another plate. I didn't like that. I know it might have seemed a certain way because I was on the phone, but I was by myself, she still could've asked. The restaurant is very light and open as both the pasta kitchen and main kitchen of the restaurant are exposed. For a casual, yet higher quality Italian pasta restaurant, I'd say look no further than Pastaria, but I wasn't as blown away by my experience as most people are by their's, I guess. read more

I was visiting my fiancé who just moved to Saint Louis from Miami. I was really craving Italian so based on a recommendation made by Chef Simon (Revel Kitchen) we decided to try Pastaria. We did not have a reservation but we had to wait about an hour to be seated (it was well worth it). However, I later found out that you can get on a waitlist through Yelp (do it). When were seated, we met our wonderful server by the name of Jason (I am sure everyone that serves there is great but ask for Jason; he's amazing!) He recommended some wonderful appetizers and entrees and all of his recommendations were on point! We started off with Started off with a Local Pepper Jam Bruschetta as our appetizer. For our entrees we shared a Bucattini All' Amatriciana with tomato red onion guanciale, chili, and grana padano and the Pappardelle with smoked pork, apples, mascarpone. It was soo delicious amazing!! All the pasta and bread is made in house! Highly highly recommend this Italian gem! It literally has become our new favorite Italian spot. We love this place, and it has been our go-to for birthday/anniversary/kids-are-home celebrations. We have been going here for years; it is consistently good. Our favorites are the simplest items: margherita pizza, kale salad, pomodora pasta. The pizza is wood-fired, and with their own red sauce, dollops of mozzarella and fresh basil, it is, to me, the best in town. It's the kind of pizza that you can fold if you like. The crust has enough "tooth" to it, and is definitely better hot than cold. When I reheat leftovers at home, I do them in the oven to get that crisp edge back, but my kids just like it cold. The kale salad...I guess when it was put on the menu it was the trendy item. I vote they never get rid of it! No one anywhere has a kale salad as good! The kale is broken into small bites, with a dressing that is "just right", to the prefect amount of bread crumbs...yummm! The Chitarra al Pomodoro is simply their red sauce made with San Marzano tomatoes, garlic and basil, drizzled with some extra virgin olive oil. The best part is the pasta...definitely hand-made, fresh...NOT dried pasta, so the texture and flavor is SO PREFECT! I can't get enough of it! And their BREAD! It's from Companion, but I think this type in particular is just for Pastaria (don't quote me). You can use any combination of the 2 oils (one regular evoo, and one with a little kick), plus the freshly grated parmesan, or grana padano. My husband also adds black pepper, not to mention asking for an extra chunk of bread! There are also delicious appetizers and desserts, and other pastas...too much to name. I've just given you our favs. We've tried the other pizzas, but in my book, nothing tops the margherita. If you have kids, or like a craft draft pint of beer for $4, come before 6 on weeknights to take advantage of their happy hour, and discounted kid's menu (now everyone is happy!) not to mention the smaller crowd. Even their takeout is glacial. Last time I ordered, they bounced me between different pickup spots. Then, after waiting 5 minutes for someone to even talk to me again, I found out that they hadn't put in the Postmates order into their system, so then I had to wait another 20 minutes for them to make the food, and they didn't even offer me anything while I waited. Friday night after school and work with the kids. The place was Hopi' and we sat at the first time. The pizza maker was super friendly inviting any questions we might have. The staff was certainly hustling which always makes me feel good about the place... We love bed the risotto balls. I especially love the lemon/creamy dipping sauce that goes with it. What a wonderful experience at Pastaria! I am from out of town and starving! However, I have celiac disease (no gluten) and food allergies. I called ahead to speak to someone about their gluten free options. David, the manager, answered all of my questions before I had even asked them! Thank you David! I brought my family here and we all had a wonderful meal. Pizza, pasta aglio and my gluten free pasta with sauce. They even had minestrone for my niece!! She was craving soup.
