I'd been wanting to try this place out for a while before I finally had the chance to do it! We came on a Sunday night, it was pretty busy, there was about a 20 minute wait. We sat at the bar while waiting for a table and enjoyed some vino. Once our table was ready, we were so hungry that we devoured the delicious freshly baked italian bread that we were served and even asked for more while we were deciding what to order. I didn't realize that each add in to your pasta was an extra $2.50, seemed a bit much but I got 3 so my pasta ended up being really expensive (and I only got vegetables, seemed too pricey for the amount of veggies that were actually in my pasta). Other than that, I won't complain much. Everything else was great and the service was fine. Not sure if I'll go back again or not, but overall a decent experience. read more

The hype is still up, the wait is still long, but we finally got to eat here...and it was good. I'm somewhere between 4 & 5 stars. We arrived around 6pm on a Friday night, and it was going to be a 45-min wait. The place was already jumping, the bar was standing room only, and the atmosphere was dynamic. My husband ordered a Peroni beer, which came in a tall Peroni glass and looked a good value for the price. Talking about value, I LOVED my house white wine in a Litro for $15, which gave me 3 glasses = 1.5 glasses during my wait and 1.5 glasses during my meal...it was PER-FECT! You can also get the same thing with the house red wine. I would sooo get this again! And for a bonus, our bartender was attentive and super-sweet and friendly. And it's time to eat! The 4 of us are seated. With a packed house, tables were a little cramped with the diner behind me regularly bumping into me with his chair. Our server was nice and answered our many questions with a smile. Here's the breakdown: Crispy Risotto Balls $8 (waitress recommended, very tasty, came w/ 2 delicious sauces and we liked the white sauce best, 6 pieces/order) Strozzapretti $14 (freshmade pasta shaped similar to 6s - or 9s - in a tasty but not heavy meat sauce, generous portion). My last dinner in St Louis/Clayton and it did not disappoint. My supervisor ordered the risotto balls. Now, I'm a big fan an arancini; not all are created equal. These balls were good. Not my fav, but a solid appetizer to start with. I ordered the cacio e pepe. I'm such a lover of all things pasta and this dish right here is so simple to make, it tasted divine. Divine, I say. Seriously. I was speechless for a good chunk of my meal - and for someone who talks a lot, that's saying something. I took the advice of other reviewers and started off with the risotto balls. I don't know how to word this strongly enough: ORDER THE RISOTTO BALLS. I then ate a huge chunk of their literally steaming hot and delicious bread. My friend and I split the pasta pomodoro, which was superb. It is a simple dish that is done beautifully. The pasta is the best pasta I have ever had. Used the yelp app to hold my place in line. Met up with my party an hour later and only had to wait 30 minutes. It is a good idea to really plan ahead for this place. They do a really good job to move things along. The food is super tasty and a little pricy but TOTALLY worth it!! Second time coming as I write this review, looking forward to many more visits! Came in here for a late dinner last weekend. My friend and I were looking for some good Italian food, and she said this one would do the trick. Since we were coming in at around 9 pm on Sunday, the restaurant was pretty empty, which was nice, since we were starving. My friend mentioned that when she had come to restaurant at busier times, there was often a wait. First off, the service was really lovely. Our waitress was cheerful and accommodating even though it was later on Sunday evening. When my friend had an issue with her drink, the waitress was more than willing to replace it, and really nice about it. Food: - Lasagna: The lasagna was delicious. Even though I was hesitant about the kale and how spicy the sauce might be, it was perfect. All the flavors melded really well together and the chili tomato sauce wasn't too spicy. It added the perfect edge to what was normally a traditional dish. Afterwards, my friend and I wandered over to the gelato case, and our waitress was quick to hop over. Really great tomato-based sauces here, better than some restaurants at The Hill! We shared the mushroom pizza and added onions, and then ordered the eggs in purgatory with meat sauce, and the pistachio raviolis! All of it was sooo tasty and quality. I am usually not a huge fan of stone fired pizzas because of the excessive char, but this place did a great job and like I said the sauce was delicious! Also, the eggs in purgatory was soo good, I just asked for extra side of sauce because I like to dip the bread in it instead of the olive oil. Lastly, the pistachio raviolis was really refreshing and somewhat light. Interesting but super savory flavor combo! The service was excellent. I usually don't go to Clayton restaurants because of the parking availability. The parking garage is necessary for this trip. Upon arrival, the hostess was very nice and seated immediately. Our waiter, Adrian, from beginning of the meal to the end, was very attentive and helpful with the menu. I love that they have Aperol Spritz on the menu. I had two. And they were perfectly made. An appetizer of some Arricini, or Fried Risotto Balls and marinara to start. Perfectly crisp and fluffy inside. I would've love them even more if they had some prosciutto in them! I ordered the Tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce, and it was AMAZING. There was so much pasta and you can tell it was fresh! I had the Nutella cake for dessert and it was so rich. Yum! Wow, for the starters, the fresh bread that they provide you with is just so good and so fresh! My table ordered the cannelini bean bruschetta and it was divine! We went to Pastaria on a Friday evening around 6:45 pm. I got us in line on the nowait app and getting a table was a breeze. We just had to have all members of our party there and they seated us right away.. Service was good as all my previous experiences here.. We got an appetizer of crispy potatoes with a basil salsa verde which was absolutely delicious. I got my favorite dish here the chittara al pomodoro and the others got the pomodoro, a pizza and the papardelle smoked pork. Pasta here is cooked perfectly.. It's also made here and so are the sauces.. When you're in Pastaria you have to make room for gelato.. there are various flavors of gelato from the traditional vanilla bean to a tropical fruit sorbet. It was crowded even for a Wednesday evening. The wait wasn't bad, about 20 minutes. They will take down your name and phone number; and text you when your table is ready, very convenient. Menu was one simple page and our focus was the Pasta! Just two girls, so we didn't order a lot. Food was good, but service was bland. Complimentary Freshly Bake Bread, loved their special spicy oil for dipping Fried Risotto Balls - lightly fried, crispy on the outside, cheesy and creamy in the inside! I love their anchovy kale salad! The risotto balls are a great app and I loveeeee the bread they give you! It's dangerous... The 4 stars are really based on the salad and the bread. Otherwise it'd be a 3.5 Unfortunately, I've tried 3 different pasta dishes (pappardelle, beef garganelli, and chitarra pomodoro) and I'm not that blown away with any of them. The texture of the pasta has always been off for me. Their gelato flavors are very unique and changes daily, my favorite is the jasmine rice. We had a busy day with the D's'; Member Morning at the Art Museum, the Lafayette Square House Tour and dinner at Pastaria. All events were good, including dinner. This was our first visit to Pastaria and we did enjoy it. Even though a little windy and threatening rain, pretty much the only way to get a table was to eat outside, but it worked out well. Ms T and I kept it light. Sharing (unofficially) a Shaved Kale Salad and Chittara al Pomodoro. The salad had a creamy anchovy dressing, like Caesar. The chittara pasta was very good, the sauce was light and well flavored, clearly homemade. The D's split (officially, there is a splitting charge) a chopped salad with tons of ingredients and a red wine vinaigrette. They also split Garganelli pasta which had delicious braised, shredded beef in the sauce. Our one experience at Brassierie by the same owners was just OK, so we were pleased that we had a good experience here. Pastaria is fresh and trendy with a homemade touch. Have been here many times for lunch and for dinner (and for carryout). Went for lunch recently and tried the roasted-vegetable panini as a change of pace from the pasta and pizza, it was delicious. The mixed greens salad was amazing. Have had both pasta and pizza here in the past, the pasta has been great and the pizza good. There are limited options for vegetarians. What makes the pasta here great is the sauces are consistently top-notch and they make their own pasta right in the front of the restaurant. You can purchase it to carry out (along with a limited number of other items such as pasta sauces, olive oil and gelato). The place is always busy and the decor sparse but the interior dining experience (in one large room) is energetic and exciting. read more

Bucatini All' Amatriciana ($16.50) -- the pasta is perfectly al dente, and the tomato sauce taste very fresh. However, there was barely any guanciale(cured pork) in the meat sauce, I second-guessed if I had accidentally ordered a vegetarian dish. Pistachio Ravioli ($16.95) -- While I like the texture of the ravioli and the copious amounts of pistachio, I could barely taste the filling since the dish is overwhelmed by a sour flavor. I later found out that it is the lemon brown butter, but for some reason it tasted like a mixture of vinegar and oil. Overall, I have to give credit to Pastaria for making great pasta, but it is very pricey for its ingredients and crowded seating. read more

I used the Nowait app, and it worked well: reserved when 26 people were ahead of me. Got to the restaurant with 3 ahead, and was seated within 5 minutes. Would have had a drink at the bar, but after waiting a few minutes for the bartender to look at me, I gave up. Fresh hot bread came to the table, after we ordered rather than before. On the table was a serving tray with a spicy oil and an olive oil and other add ins for dipping. Everything going by the table looked delicious. Water refills were few and far between. The four cheese pizza was the best thing we had. The fried stuffed rice balls also were good, although the size of each was much smaller than I have had elsewhere. My toasted linguini with clams was in an oily garlic sauce, too garlicky and salty for my taste, and the toasted pasta and garlic overpowered the delicate clams. I would not order it again. The pistachio ravioli was swimming in oil on the plate, which made it less appetizing, and it also was a bit too salty. The pappardelle was served with a pork BBQ sauce. Sigh, also a bit too salty. The pasta all looked great when served, and the aroma was amazing. But that salt and oil resulted in partially eaten meals. read more

Great place for pasta and pizza in Clayton. It took me awhile to find something on the menu I really enjoyed though (the lasagna is what ended the search). The homemade pasta is delicious but many of the items on the menu are rather plain to me. I feel the wood fired pizzas are overlooked but they are also very good. If you are looking for authentic family Italian I would check out the Hill, but if you like something more modern and hip, this is the place. Pastaria is an excellent Italian restaurant all-around. Their outside seating is nice and they've cleared out space in their usually packed interior for COVID. All the staff were very friendly as well. The food was delicious. We started with the Little Gem Chopped Salad which had a great variety of ingredients that all complimented each other perfectly. For the main course we had the Chitarra al Pomodoro and Tagliatelle Bolognese. Both were full of flavor and phenomenal. For desert we had the Carmalized Pinenut and Panna cotta gelato. So good! The best I have ever had was in Miami so if you aren't able to travel somewhere for lunch then this is the best in the area. They have several pastas that are amazing that I have tried. Had an incredible experience. Great table right next to the kitchen. Started with the bread along with a standard olive oil and a chili-infused olive oil, before moving along to the incredible risotto balls. For the entree, I went with a dish that consisted of noodles together with pulled pork and apples that was beyond words. Closed out with a scoop of salted caramel gelato. Every item came out of the kitchen with amazing presentation and taste. I really liked the modern decor, and found the service to be impeccable. I got to meet the owner, Gerard Craft, at the end of the meal, which was a pleasure as well. From this one visit alone, Pastaria pretty much became my favorite restaurant in Clayton/St. Louis. I've been to Pastaria many times for dine-in, and it's always been good -- brunch, lunch, and dinner. The pistachio ravioli and the Brussels sprouts are highlights for me. We saw that they're doing curbside food during the COVID-19 pandemic and decided to give it a try. Since I've been to a few places that didn't inspire confidence, I thought I should take the time to commend Pastaria for really having their act together and making the experience work. Not only did they seem to be taking smart precautions, but they were also careful enough with preparation and labeling of the gluten free meal that my son with Celiac Disease was able to enjoy it with confidence. Ultimately, curbside was just about as pricy as taking the family to the restaurant, but eating the meal in our dining room was almost as good as being there.
