The carrot cake was nice and moist, had shredded carrots, nuts and great frosting to cake ratio. They truly do have Fine desserts. So fine and fancy -the best in the area in IMHO. I love everything about this small business. The customer service is personal and excellent and expedient. The location is quaint but great things come in small packages. If there is a wait out the door, it is worth the wait, be patient and be kind. You can call ahead to place special orders and I recommend you do if you have someone and something special in mind. We have loved everything we have tried. By 5p in the afternoon, all the fruit tarts were sold out (unsurprisingly). However, there was still a sizeable crowd inside! I opted for a tiramisu cake slice and took that to go. We had it in the evening after dinner and the cake was sooo light and fluffy. The mascarpone almost tasted like whipped air and there were at least 1-2 cake layers soaked in that signature rum+espresso combo. It was also notably not too sweet. Damn this place is good! Their carrot cake is moist and full of carrot and spices. The frosting doesn't feel sickening sweet, yet it's still satisfied the sweet tooth. Their cannoli has a great custard felling, as well as a pie dough like crust on the outside. It wasn't as magical as I would have hoped. The fruit tart itself deserves 5 stars. I've been a customer for over 30 years. This shop has always been wonderful. But I guess this place has new management now. I never had fruit tart made with oranges instead of mangos. It has kiwi, blueberries etc but they also used oranges. The taste and texture is just not right. Tasted bitter and ruined the flavor and texture of tart. Even if the taste of oranges was great, it still doesn't go well. If mango is not available in Oct, used more kiwis or add other berries. The cheese cake was amazing as were the eclairs. The Cannoli's were very good but not quite as good as the cheesecake and eclairs. The only real negative is the lack of seating. The tiramisu was very pretty, but it was made from cake instead of ladyfingers. I could barely taste the espresso since everything just tasted like sponge cake and cream. For some reason the cream/frosting on the edge of the cake was hard. Not sure if it was supposed to be this way, but it took me by surprise and I did not enjoy it very much. The custard underneath is not too sweet and the crust reminds me of a shortbread. I've gotten other pastries and drinks from the bakery and they're all good, but if you were to get anything - definitely get the fruit tart. If you go early enough, there should be slices that you can purchase, but if you want a a whole tart - it's best to call the day before and put your name down. It's also not that expensive either. One of the best cakes I've had. Came here for cake twice this year and it was twice for a birthday dinner far from Providence. It was well worth it. The raspberry almond cake was amazing. I highly recommend it. Very light and not crazy sweet. The right moistness and airiness inside. Presents very well. The artists did a great job. It was the right dessert for after a big dinner. We also got the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake, which is one of the best cheesecakes I've had. The density of the cheesecake is just right. Also presents very well. But, if I must decide between this cheesecake and the raspberry almond cake, I will go with the raspberry almond any day. The fruit tart is also a work of art. Fresh fruits arranged in a nice presentable way. Paired with how they made the custard and the tart shell, it was great. The tart shell was not hard at all and we ate the cake half a day after purchased. We use to get fruit tarts at Whole Foods and the shell is rock hard but not here! This is a great go to for some fine pastries in federal hill area for suree. The prices are $$, but all of the pastries are always so moist and made to perfection! The staff is always very kind and the service is always very quick. It is a small little hole in the wall place, but the sign outside is huge lol so you will not miss it.. parking is usually easy during the week but on the weekends lol you may be fighting for a parking spot. My daughter introduced me to Pastiche last April when we went to a show at PPAC for her birthday. This upscale pastry shop reminds me of the shops I've gone to all over Europe. The people working there are friendly and patient as customers evaluate the best way to use their daily calorie intake. My daughter's favorite is the chocolate tart that come with homemade raspberry sauce and fresh whipped cream. I'm a fan of everything, but do love the carrot cake. Basically, everything is carefully prepared with attention to detail so that the customer enjoys the entire experience. We stopped into Pastiche because our favorite coffee place (Vanuatu's) across the street closed and possibly moved to a totally different state. I wasn't particularly taken by any of the desserts there, looking more for something breakfasty rather than a large slice of cake or tiramisu. The slices were enormous and they would definitely be shareable if that was something you wanted for brunch. My disappointment was that we did have to order coffee and sit on the little bench near the window hoping that we would not be forced to sit in our car off the street. Now we know! The coffee was OK, with options of oat or almond milk. When you drink coffee in so many different travels like I do, it really distinguishes a dessert place from a coffee place and this is definitely a dessert place. The cannolis had a tasty crunch contrasted with a beautiful creamy and smooth filling that I never had before. It was divine. I also loved their london fog tea. I have tried many of its great selection of desserts, but besides the pecan pumpkin pie (which seems to be a special around Thanksgiving time), nothing else truly stands out -- and I've had the often-lauded fruit tart at least 6 distinct times (which I personally think is too fruit heavy, and could benefit from a bit more of its delicious cream that gets obscured by the fruit and biscuit shell).
