They have great gear. Because my lifestyle has made me and my husband avid outdoors people we always look for technical gear to keep us warm and dry in the Northwest snow. The lay out of this store flows very well. The big windows give the store a lot of great natural light. I haven't been a fan out their outerwear, mainly just get base layers, but that was because it didn't seem to keep up with style trends. I felt like it just made people all look the same on the hill. I needed color, style AND function. However they have brought in new fresh colors and styles that make the clothing more trendy. Maybe that's not for you but it's a plus for me. 4 stars is due to the difficulty of parking. You spend a lot in the store and they don't have free parking. If you're going hiking, have some cash, and don't want to look like a complete dork, go to Patagonia. I'm not saying that REI doesn't provide us all with fully functional gear! Of course not! REI's shorts are completely technologically sound, with water-repelling features, and also have all of those handy pockets. But, for that type of person who doesn't want to wear shorts that go above his/her belly button, I think that Patagonia provides him or her with a breath of fresh air. They have nice, warm flannels and fleece which are also fully functional and come in colors other than ones you'd wear on a safari. Yes, it is pricey, but maybe, you could, like, plan your hikes/camping trips six months in advance, buy your clothes during one of their ginormous sales, and you're all set. I exchanged a rain jacket and the clerk forgot to remove the magnet for the alarm that obviously did not go off. I am a Metro driver and drive by the store, but obviously I can't just park 60 feet of bus in middle of the road, therefore I called in and made arrangements to hop out and have that thing very quickly removed and jump back into the seat. But when I arrived I was treated like a thief and the young dude working from safety refused to take it off. He told me to come by on the weekend and bring the receipt, which they have in an email already. He basically forces me to be out in public unnecessarily, as I wasn't exposed enough through my work. Also, we driver are reputable people and earn enough money to not have to steal rain jackets!! This is outrageous and downright horrible customer service. read more

Some of the employees here obviously hate their jobs and the contempt they feel for you for being in their store couldn't be more clear. The guy at the front counter on Sunday night 8/3 was rude and couldn't be bothered to extend even the smallest words of courtesy to me as i purchased one of their overpriced $450 jackets (a gift, otherwise i wouldn't have gone through with the purchase). He passive aggressively dropped my receipt on the counter because actually handing it too me would have been too much effort, and didn't even hand me my jacket or offer to put it in a bag. I actually said thank you to him just out of habit of being nice, and afterward realized how weird that he didn't say thanks or anything. Another employee went around telling all the customers in the store that it would be closing in 10 minutes. What ever happened to "can i help you with anything?" Just close the doors at closing time and let your customers finish their shopping, and stop acting like we're an inconvenience for you. I'm sure there's some t-shirts for you to go fold in the meantime. I would have walked out without purchasing anything if I didn't have to buy it for a gift. read more

I purchased a set of flyfishing boots 3 years ago,I use them 1-2 days per week, 4-5 months per year. the seams are coming apart and when contacted, they said this was normal wear. I paid $275 for these boots and with the realistic time that I've used them comes to 120 days of use, 4 months of use and its coming apart at the seams. These are not street shoes that are wore day in and day out It was not the soles, it was the stitching on the boot. For that kind of money, I feel that these boots should have lasted much longer. When I contacted them they gave me the number of a shoe repair place in Colorado and they were essentially done. It was my problem.If I had bought these shoes at Nordstrom, they would not have had a problem working with me, or at least, looking at the product to see if it was a manufacturing defect. There is no welcome when you enter. No one asks if you need help while they watch you look around. And when I Went to the register to pay for my Snap-T synchilla and the lady at the counter said "Can I Help You?" My response "Yeah, I'd like to buy this." I've never been to a store where I've had to ask if I could purchase something. And then when I asked her about the warranty, she wasn't able to answer my specific questions. I really, really do not like their location as it's totally impossible to park, and I only shop there when I absolutely have to. I'd much rather shop online or by it at Nordstrom. I go to the store in downtown Seattle infrequently. Traffic is always busy. Parking is at best difficult, and the store staff is, well - it depends. Some of the staff are friendly and helpful. I never thought I would shop directly at Patagonia - but after a few times here I found that they have the best of anything I need for outdoor clothing and equipment. The staff knows their stuff and they have a good return policy. My wife picked up a down coat here for a trip to Canada in the winter and it has been perfect for around town as well as super cold weather. My love affair with Patagonia ended today. I went to make a return of a defective item as an errand for my wife and after the friendly staff at the store helped me pick out items for the exchange, things became unpleasant. I went to the counter and the manager treated me as if I was a criminal. I was even further rebuffed by a corporate email later that day. I've never been treated in such a way by a retailer. I typically do all my shopping at Nordstrom, Eddie Bauer, REI, and Patagonia because of great customer service. That list has now dropped by one. Great quality clothing and recreational equipment, but these prices are astronomical. They take recreation very seriously here and even offer courses on climbing and rope tying among others. Fantastic customer service! Lots of help on the floor, even though it was Labor Day weekend and packed with shoppers. In the end, I only needed a refill leader for my Tenkara fly rod, a 25$ item. I got to the till, and the salesperson asked " Do you have the rod that goes with this ( there are 3 sizes of rods to see if I was buying the right size)? I replied " I have the 11'6" and the 10'6"! I have read about claims of Patagonia about refund and replacement, but my visit to this store refuted it. I purchased it online from a different vendor . The jacket was with tags and I showed these guys the receipt for replacement. The guy on counter said you have purchased from different vendor and it is not latest model.Firstly they were not agreeing for replaement. After my much persuasion , manager intervened and then finally agreed to replace and told that I have to pay the difference in amount the price at which they are selling the jacket(from the vendor I purchased at a lesser price). We bought an almost 400 dollar down jacket for me for the winter in December last year at this store. I needed to clean the jacket this month and called to ask them specifics on cleaning it. After doing everything they told me to do, the jacket unfortunately wasn't fluffy anymore as it was prior to washing it. So I went to the store to show them the results and ask why it would become so thin and just not be what it was beforehand. I asked them if I got another one would it do the same thing and they said probably. So I exchanged the jacket for a new one of the same style and the guy at the register had to order it. After two days, my order came, unfortunately it was the wrong jacket!! So I was upset and called customer service. They found out the exact style and said I'd receive it within two days. I printed out the shipping label they sent me to return the first one they sent. Now today is Sunday and I just realised that I haven't received my jacket! So I called this morning and turns out that the guy in customer service never put in my order because they were waiting for me to give them a credit card for confirmation! How does that happen when you're never asked for one and told your order will be shipped out?? On top of that, I sent out the first coat days ago! So I'm the one who has almost 400 dollars mingling out there somewhere instead of it hanging some place in my closet! So for the second time, they said it was a mistake on their part and that they see the first coat is on its way back to them so they will overnight my coat! I have to agree with TC the staff at this store is unbelievable bad. They were too busy having conversations with each other (or their friends - it was impossible to tell who worked there) to wait on me. Someone eventually offered me a dressing room when they saw me walking around with an arm full of clothes. When I stepped out with something on that I wanted to show my husband they stopped chatting and asked if I needed help. When I said I was looking for my husband they said ok and continued their conversation. I know this isn't the corporate culture of Patagonia but it seems to be the norm at the seattle store. I've consistently had this kind of service over the last year. When you go to a place with upscale prices you should get upscale service. I'm over 50 and the staff were all 20 something's. I love Patagonia, i think their clothes are super nice, comfortable and warm. I went for their sale, and it was worth it. Their clothes are more on the expensive side, even more than The North Face but it's worth it in my opinion. I called for someone to look for a jacket for me i saw online, they didn't have the color i originally wanted, so i picked another color out and put it on hold, and i told the worker i wanted that color but didn't want to pay for shipping, he kind of just said.. "oh okay i'll just put the other color on hold for you" not sure if he was just busy or something but when i came to pick my jacket, i asked the other worker if they offered free shipping if they didn't have the color i wanted in store, and it's free! The guy i spoke to first couldn't even tell me that, if i knew that i would have just done that instead of buying my 2nd choice. Anyway, the workers there don't wear uniforms or name tags so I don't even know who to ask for help if i wanted. Would be a 5 stars if their customer service was a little better. But they do give you a bunch of stickers if you ask them, which is nice. I like to add stickers to my snowboard so It was perfect. read more

Husband and I stopped in on Saturday while putzing around Seattle. I needed to drop off a jacket (insert of the 3-in-1 jacket) to get some campfire burns patched up. Woman behind the counter was super warm and friendly as soon as she saw me come in. I had my repair paperwork completed within minutes. I also needed to pick up a hoodie and asked a smiley sales associate (Kenneth? Keagan?) if he could show me a few options after a big chorus of "welcome" from five associates at the bottom of the ramp. Didn't find what I was looking for (found it online; item is more cold weather appropriate and the store had already turned over for warm weather merch), but he was patient with me and had a lot of recommendations. My husband had wandered off to check out jackets. Same associate came over to help us and ended up giving us hiking and camping info for the area for a good ten minutes. After having three zippers break on a $450 dollar pair of pants less than 6 months old, I decided enough was enough. I took them into the Seattle Patagonia store. After the woman behind the counter listened and inspected the pants, she informed me that since I did not have my receipt the best she could do is offer me the last sale price listed for these pants. $150!!!! Normally, I would just have the pants fixed but after three zippers broken, my faith in these brand new pants and their design has waned. Confronted with a blank, unapologetic face the woman asked if I had a email receipt. I had no idea. She looked me up and I was able to get the entire refund. I felt like I had gotten lucky. When did patagonia begin trying to screw it's customers on its "Iron Clad Guarantee"? Make a pair of $450 pants that last over six months OR quit making your customers feel like criminals for expecting a company to stand behind its policy! And ALWAYS get an email receipt. read more

I love shopping at this store. It has the right lighting and natural light, layout and great staff that makes me want to spend the afternoon sitting in the chair just inside the entry. If only they served tea! Between my husband and myself we have gear still going from the 70's. Our kids have claimed some of the pieces from the 80's and 90's. It's like that battery bunny, they go and go and go! I wore my nanopuff pullover last year daily. It finally got a pulled thread in the front and puckered slightly. It was tough to separate myself from it long enough for them to fix it, but when the sun came out last spring they did just that. Whaboom, just like new! As for the staff, they are friendly, attentive but not hovering. I appreciate their help in getting things in that they have either on line or in catalogs and don't have in store yet. I also adore people who can be honest, especially when asked for opinions. I love a color that the nanopuff came in last fall. It hasn't looked good on me ever, but I've loved it since I was a kid. I had to get a second opinion on it. The store clerk was very delicate about telling me I was right, perhaps I should look at the gray one :) Even during the very busy sales days they are great to work with! read more
