We come here first the moment we reach Cape. It's our go to destination. I appreciate that all of the food is gluten free. They take celiacs seriously, which is great. We typically order oysters and clams to start, and then I order the fishermen's platter and she the scallions. I've never been disappointed with the food. The staff is great as well. read more

Ordered dozen oysters, fish and chips, leafy salad and two lobster rolls hit and cold. Oysters were soooo fresh and went well with IPA beer and sauces. I would say as bit expensive at $33/dozen. Fish and chips was ok the fish was too thin to give a nice moist flavor. Batter to fish ratio did not work out well. Lobster rolls were good with good pieces of meat. So good. The options here are plentiful. I love that you can get your fried clams and lobster roll if that's what you're craving, as well as fish tacos or a smash burger if you're feeling something different. If you want something relatively healthy, you can get all kinds of protein toppings for your salad, from scallops to lobster salad. Lots of vegetarian options as well, including a tofu banh mi and a braised beet poke bowl. They also have a fish market on the side for cooking some fish at home. We got a ton of things: 1. Dozen oysters ($34). Super fresh and briny, with not a lot of shell, but on the small side. If you walk around the corner of the counter to the restrooms, you can see all the shucked oysters on ice. 2. Caesar salad ($15). Normally, I'd balk at that price tag but I absolutely loved this salad. Perfect amount of not-too-garlicky dressing, anchovies, not a brown or wilted leaf in sight. 3. Shrimp cocktail ($18). I could eat this all day with the cocktail sauce. The only thing we got that kinda missed the mark for me was the lobster bisque, It was little too heavy on the cream, with not a lot of actual lobster flavor. Plenty of outdoor seating. read more

We always enjoy Mac's so our first night on the Cape that's where we headed. Happily they weren't packed on a Saturday evening and we ordered quickly and found a table. We weren't starving so sandwiches were a good idea. My husband had the smash burger with fries and I had the cod sandwich with onion rings. The burger and fries were terrific but the fish and onion rings were notably different. They were dry and almost had a baked rather than fried flavor, and a powdery breading for lack of a better word. I inquired and was told they now use a gluten-free breading and I forget the details given. It's a bad idea folks. Don't go messing up fried fish and onion rings at a seafood joint. Maybe choose to offer that as a separate menu item instead? Anyhoo--I did not enjoy my meal in the least and that was very disappointing. Highest of recommendations! Right in Route 28 as you head into Chatman Shopping District. Plenty of parking and open year round. Like the old Caswell's in Marshfield, you buy at a counter, they give you a number, and you sit on down as food is brought to you. The inside of Mac's is very clean and spacious, and has about twenty tables. There is seating outside - seasonal and today is January, with snow... so we stayed inside. Started off with the Mac's Clam Chowder which was a lovely milk broth - just as good as the chowder at the Clark Cooke House in Newport, Rhode Island! Homemade, flavorful and not jammed with excessive potatoes or onion; the clams were cooked well. I had the fish soup, looked almost like Portuguese Kale, but was very delicious, had a bit of heat to it, the fish was downright incredible; the carrots, celery, and onions were cooked to perfection. We usually get some raw bar, and they have a nice selection of little necks, cherry stones, and oysters, but today for us it was a pound and half of steamed clams. Plump, clean, and sand free. Just as good as those at Mattakeese Wharf Restaurant. Lobster... I asked for a two pounder, and got a 2.5 pounder. Fresh, delicious, succulent, and sweet. Wonderful and hard working staff. Not your typical New England seafood restaurant. The first thing I noticed on the menu board was the "Pho Special"; very unusual. I had to peruse the menu carefully before ordering. Rather than the fried clam plate I was planning to order I got the Miso Roasted Cod, in a mushroom broth with bok choi, udon noodles, and shittake mushrooms. Vegans can substitute fried tofu for the cod. Really good: the single piece of cod was sweet from the miso and cooked just to the point of doneness. The portion was generous. The udon was perfectly al-dente. The broth was rich, flavorful, and hot - perfect for a cold windy day in Chatham. Other items that make Mac's stand out above the average include lobster gnocchi, intriguing salads (pear & argulua, beet poke), poke bowls, several kinds of fish including tuna and swordfish, raw oysters. Of course all the usual fried seafood items, lobster whole or rolls, and the rest. Service is order at the counter, they bring it to your table. The room is small enough that you can always find staff if you need them. My server was personable, patient with my ordering (I took a long time studying the menu) and had useful insights without being pushy. The place is clean, including the rest rooms (gender-free). The table next to me was cleaned to perfection not more than 3 minutes after the diners left. The room was uncluttered, bright and airy, decorated with old place signs, porthole mirrors, and brightly painted oars. Gentle folky rock playing quietly. As for liquor, only beer and wine (and hard cider - 2 kinds). An unusually large selection of wines by the glass. As for beer: I'm not qualified to judge but I saw several taps and they weren't generic Bud and the like. I need to come back here and try more things. Wholeheartedly recommended. read more

I walked in and ordered our food right away and we sat in the back near one of the heaters. I tried the crispy ribs and they were amazing. They were tender, fell right off the bone, and had a satisfying crunch with a delicious barbecue sauce that made me wish I could have had them a second time. Option to have it served hot or cold. We tried it hot with butter which turned out decadent but not creamy. The cold option it's served mixed in with mayo and celery. We spent two weeks on the Cape this summer and Mac's was our favorite meal by far!!!! You truly can't find fresher seafood than this. The portions are very generous and the vibe is laidback, coastal New England. We brought our pups along and sat at a picnic bench to enjoy our meal. We eat at Mac's at least 3-4 times a week when we vacation in Cape Cod. This place has the freshest seafood and the most laid back atmosphere. You can pick a table outside or in. You bring the number they give you to your table and the friendly staff will bring your food. Lines can be long. You can bypass this by ordering ahead of time for pickup. You order at a counter and get a number to grab any table. We got the poke, a lobster, and some steamers. The poke was surprisingly good and fresh (no Hawaiian poke but didn't expect that), the steamers were juicy and plump and generous portion! What are people thinking? The food here is average at best. We got a little bit of everything but the thing I must mention as a PSA...skip the lobster roll. The meat was tough and felt like someone reheated it the bread stale like two days ago it may have been better. You can see in my pics that it was diced meat and not the large chunks you'd expect for $35 bucks just the roll itself. FRIED CALAMARI Quite a good calamari. It was not overly greasy or to soggy or anything. Good portion of calamari versus just batter and overall a nice dish. FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH Quite a big sandwich! My sister got this one and I think she really liked it. It looked very pleasing to the eye as well. LOBSTER ROLL I was expecting this to be quite big because of the price but it was quite a small roll. Very large amount of lobster but the bun itself was quite small. I asked the server for an extra plane bun so that my husband and I could split the lobster and make two rolls out of it. Honestly, it would have probably been better with just the one bond because now the portion size of the lobster seem too less for two buns. They also charged us for the extra bun. How did this place get so many high reviews I will never know... The staff is nice but the food quality is just not there. The lobster roll (4/10) was made up of tiny bits of lobster, not the chunks I love so much. It didn't taste fresh at all. The Caesar salad (5/10) was overdressed and didn't have enough lettuce. I got lobster salad on it but the dressing was so overpowering you had to eat the lobster separately if you wanted any chance of tasting it. The lobster salad was also premixed so it didn't taste as fresh. The fried clam bellies (5/10) were small and mostly batter.
