I got lost one time and stopped to gather myself and sense of direction at this place. Grabbed their shake and Pesto chicken sandwich with salad. The shake was perfect especially since it was so hot. Hit the spot. The chicken sandwich was really good especially since the chicken didn't taste dry at all. It feels home made and you can't beat that taste and feeling! The people were very nice and friendly. They even gave me directions back to civilization. Now my only curiosity is how on earth did an Asian family decide to have a little diner in the middle of nowhere? read more

First, the help is very friendly. Place is small and cutsie Now for the bad. I ordered a hamburger and the meat was very small. You could not see be meat, only the bun. The fries were over cooked. The shrimp was good but definantly store bought (every one was identical). read more

Very satisfied with the food and service. Don't expect ambiance here...it is just a budget burger joint, don't forget that. We were greeted by a couple of very young people who were running the store. I bought the Angus burger that had: -A good bread -Juicy, well done burger -Fries were tasty and fresh Others with me bought shakes and breakfast dishes and they were very happy too. I'd have to say this place was a let down. I've tired it twice. First time was average for a fast burger place. The second time omg ,let me tell you . I ordered a breakfast sandwich from an older Asian woman,who ended up as the cook as well, well the microwaver . The place was empty besides three elderly men drinking coffee . I waited 20 minutes before I told her I had to leave . Still no breakfast sandwich.? She seemed confused. I explained I could no longer wait , an asked if she would return the money to my card . Had a really long wait at the DMV so we dropped in for a quick bite. Well "quick" is not on the menu, even when the place was empty. The French fries are very crispy and fresh. Mushroom burgers don't have much mushroom. I think they were fresh mushrooms but so few were on the 1/4 pound burger I seriously couldn't tell. My companion ordered the chili cheese fries. Their chili is from a can for sure, nothing to write home about. Not worth a second visit. read more

I love that I can order breakfast all day! The owners are very nice people and the french fries are Excellent. Pick the Angus Burger (not the regular burger) and you will not be disappointed. Easy walk up counter to order and they they bring your food to your booth. Fast and easy to squeeze in on your lunch hour. This place is reminiscence of "Diner, Drive-ins, and Dives" on the Food Network. The staffs are friendly and helpful, the building have that small town inviting feel to it. I like their burgers and shake, and one of my recommendation is the garlic fries. Ask for Nathan, he will personally crush fresh garlic for every order. Ok... this place totally sucks. Either these good reviews are fake or the owners hate me for no reason . I am a careful critic and usually give places more than one chance. But this place has disappointed me in a big way. I grew up in San Andreas & The Patio drive in was a staple for my family. I use to love it ! But 7 dollars for biscuits and Gravy. And the gravy was white package stuff, with absolutely no meat in it ! In fact it may have been the only vegetarian biscuits and gravy I have ever eaten. But that wasn't all ...they were also considerably disgusting with traces of lemon pledge and a hideous microwaved biscuit underneath . If you are running a food establishment this is unacceptable. The state of the restaurant is unacceptable (filthy and old looking.) On another occasion we ordered dipped ice cream cones. She ran out of Ice cream on the second one... broke the cone from dipping wrong. Instead of refilling the ice cream and fixing it. She threw the broken cone and missing ice cream into a bowl and insisted that was all she could do for us. ??? WHAT ? Fix the damn cone and finish filling it with Ice cream. BTW this is an Ice cream oriented business !! It has a cone on the sign. Big thumbs down ...NO STARS !!!!! read more

Went to have breakfast at another place last weekend which was closed and found this place which I thought was strictly a hamburger and fries type of place. Nope! They serve breakfast too! Yay! It appears to be a mom and pop type of restaurant. The lady behind the counter was really nice. The place wasn't super crowded so we got out order within about 10 minutes. Two eggs, two strips of bacon, two pieces of toast and hash browns will run you about $8.00. All in all, food and service were both good. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying their burger and shakes! read more

My friends and I always stop by this place on our way back home from Bear Valley. Awesome burgers. Chili cheese fries are good. Tried their banana shake, pretty tasty because they use fresh bananas. My girlfriend ordered their teriyaki rice item. She couldn't finish the whole thing so I ate the rest and it was surprisingly good, not bad for 6 bucks. A family run business - the people are friendly and always smiling. Prices are reasonable for a burger joint, the place is clean, and right off the highway can't miss their ice-cream cone neon sign. Yearly, we head out to the Calaveras County for camping at the Calaveras Big Trees State Park, check out the Frog Jump of Calaveras County, or the cave tours. This is one of our stops along the way. The food is good and the service is great, but..the seating is limited and it's freezing in the winter and way too hot during the summer.

Had an ortega burger here with side salad. Burger was super tiny. I know, every review I've been writing lately complains about portion size but this was ridic. I ate my burger super fast because there wasn't much to it. I then turned to the salad. Shredded lettuce with some onion slices on it. Huh? Why would you shred the lettuce on a SALAD? So weird and not tasty. It was cheap to eat here but I definitely would never give it 5 stars. Always bad service. The orders always take 10 to 15 minutes more than they say they that they have it completed. They will make a Milkshake and leave the counter for 15 minutes on a hot day. Called my order in an hour in head of time, they didn't make it until I got there, which was a little inconvenient do to limited lunch time at work, but once I got the food I was impressed. I got a grilled chicken salad, mozz. sticks and onion rings. Everything was hot and fresh. Well, I have eaten here quite often over the years and in the past the burgers etc. were quite good, but not so much anymore. I ordered a hamburger with onions and tomato and a chocolate shake to go. for which I paid $9 +. It took three times for them to get the order right . The shake was good, nice and thick, but the burger when I unwrapped it had no tomato and the onion was limp and sparse, which ticked me off, the burger itself was overcooked and tasted like old fish and or chicken. I have lived in San Andreas for over twenty years, and the local residents will verify the decline in the food, the service and the style of this once happy place to go. The Asians? or Japanese people who run it, don't have the first clue how to cook American food. One review mentioned the staff as being friendly. They nod yes, repeat your order with an ever persistant grin that seems to go into the cash register. The cost for everything is outrageous, and the local teens no longer have a place to get together, because they can't afford anything. So they group at the local gas stations for their teen age talk, when it use to be at least they had a place to meet before this management took over after the owner retired. Too much money, for to little food, if you are hungry enough and rich enough, and alone, well heck even a horse would taste good if you were hungry enough. read more
