This got 3 stars for one reason only. One very important reason. It's College Football Playoff day. They had the game on every screen which was great. However they had it turned to ESPN2 instead of ESPN. The difference here is ESPN2 had the 4 different angles of the game therefore 4 different boxes in one smaller (for a bar) TV. Not great for watching. Asked bartender to turn the channel to EPSN so we could see game on full screen. She said her manager would not allow her. So we left after a drink and some food and went down the street to a bar that had the game on full screen. Bartenders were great other than the crappy manager and food was also good. read more

Who knew that Louisville was a hotbed for Irish bars. I visited 3 in 2 days, all within a 6-8 block area, and they all seem to be out "irishing" each other. Having spent time in many pubs both in SF and while in London & Edinburough, they seem to have it down. I only stopped in for a drink at O'Shea's, and thought it only only OK for atmosphere for an Irish place. Dark wood bar & back bar, check. Not brighly lit, check. Wood floor, table & chairs, check. Faint smell of beer & cigs, check. But open ceiling (more than 10 feet high) in old wherehouse building lost a bit in the cozyness necessary to make it a real joint. Freindly service (thanks Missy for introducing yourself) makes it a retunr spot if I'm ever back in this neck of the woods. read more

went here w/group of friends for late dinner. What's good : the pommes frites are amazing - best thing on their menu. A must order! What's not so good : they seem to run out of things. A LOT of things. My sandwich order was on completely different bread as described in menu. Waitress didn't explain change, just plopped it in front of me. We were with a large group and I didn't want to complain but not good. And more than one time our group tried to order things and they were out of something - probably happened a total of 5-6 times for both food and drink requests. Both the "sorry we're out of ___" and the random changes to food orders moves it down my recommendation list and off my meal list entirely. Me and my boyfriend came here after seeing Jeff Dunham. I completely fell in love with this place! The service wasnt great at first, the kitchen was "backed up" but the restaurant wasn't too crowded. But by the time our food was finally done, the manager came out and was really apologetic and gave us our appetizer free! I think I'm a pretty easy to please diner, especially when it comes to late night bar food. However, I have pretty much nothing good to say about my experience with this O'Shea's. I've been to the Highlands O'Shea's several times, and I'm always pleased with my experience. The servers there are always friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the food is very good. The downtown location of the same name shares none of these traits. After Forecastle, my friend and I struggled to find anywhere with an open kitchen at 10:30pm on a Sunday. We finally found on in O'Shea's and were seated. Our waitress soon came over, a disinterested girl in her midtwenties with her blonde hair in a high ponytail. "What do you ladies want to drink?" she practically snarled out. I asked for a gimlet, which is one of the most basic gin drinks out there. She just looked at me. "Yknow, a gimlet? Like with gin," I repeated. "What?" she replied. At this point I was getting frustrated. "Gin and sweetened lime juice. Just ask the bartender for that." She still didn't get it. "Just bring me something with gin and lime in it," I finally said, exasperated. "Okayyyyy...," she replied, seeming incredulous. When she finally brought us drinks, they tasted like plain water with a tiny squirt of lime juice in them. I didn't feel like arguing with a waitress who worked in a bar but looked at me like I was crazy when I ordered a basic drink. Their late night menu was understandably limited. My friend got a sandwich and paid an upcharge for fries. Having had wonderful experiences with the Highlands O'Shea's pomme frites and their dipping sauces, I ordered some from this O'Shea's. The waitress asked what dipping sauce I wanted. Expecting the huge selection available at the Highlands locations with such exciting options as Malt Vinegar Mayo and other housemade concoctions, I asked what was available. She said ranch, thousand island, and honeymustard. Since when does squirting a bottle of Kraft salad dressing into a cup count as "dipping sauces?' Why advertise pomme frites with your choice of dipping sauce if you don't actually have any real sauces? I passed in favor of the bottle of ketchup on our table. Our food came out, and my friend looked between my basket of pomme frites and her plate with disbelief. While my pomme frites were overcooked and soggy, they were visibly cut from potatos and made, I could only assume, in house. On her plate rested a pile of pale yellow, once frozen, crinkle cut fries that she had to pay an upcharge for. In my opinion there is no excuse for serving both frozen and housemade fries in the same restaurant, let alone to the same table. Putting a french name on one of them doesn't make it okay. The waitress made no effort to check on us throughout our short visit, instead using her time to give and receive back massages to another member of the waitstaff by the register across from our table. We managed to flag her down to pay our checks and left. Moral of the story, skip this O'Shea's. Visit the Highlands one. Try the pomme frites and the legitimate dipping sauces, as well as all the other great food items that your friendly, knowledgeable waiter will bring you. read more

A friend & I came in late one night after work & were pleasantly greeted by a bearded bartender. He went by a nickname (that I of course can't remember now) but he was one of those people who just makes you smile! He was soft spoken, polite, kind, & totally old school. He made me a delicious chocolate/raspberry truffle type martini that was exactly what I was looking for, and my friend had one of the ginger cocktails from their drink list. We also ordered 2 appetizers to share, which came out very quickly & hot. The fried cheese balls were incredible! There weren't many people in the bar that night & we were not smothered or ignored which is rare when a restaurant/ bar is slow. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening & I will definitely be back if not just to have that same bartender again, because he made our night! read more

We went here for a Wednesday night pint night. Since it was our first time, we were worried that the place might be really crowded, or they would have run out of the feature brew before we got there (we arrived at 7:30, there are conflicting times for the advertised start, some places say 6pm, some 7pm). To our surprise, the place was pretty empty. We were seated after a short wait (the hostess was nowhere to be found, so the bartender took her duties when she saw us and 2 other parties standing around). We ordered the pint night beer (which that night was a Dogfish Head Festina Peche), which arrived as a nice glass (which is yours to keep) and... a bottle of beer. I just laughed - a bottle is not a pint, and the advertising talks of "tapping" a new beer, which I guess to them means opening a bottle? No harm, really. We're not ones to get upset about something that silly, we just found it funny. The beer was really tasty, and we both ordered 2, so now we have 4 fun-shaped Dogfish Head glasses at home to remember the night by. They were $7.50/bottle, so it's not like you're getting a great deal, but it was fun to go, try a new beer, and come home with some glassware. For food, I got a reuben, hubs got a GIANT chicken cordon bleu. Both were good, but next time we'll probably just stick with the "pints" and eat at home. read more

Went by here for drinks one night and then came by with a large group for dinner Saturday night. The food is definitely better than your average bar food. The staff was really friendly. I got the "bourbon ball" cocktail, but I didn't really like it. I couldn't taste any bourbon at all. I was unsure about ordering the shrimp and grits in an Irish place, but I was really in the mood for it. It was excellent! I wish I'd had more of the grits. All my other friends seemed to enjoy their meals. I wish I'd gotten the pretzels and beer cheese like my friend got. I had total food envy. Incredibly busy on a Friday night. There were 2 Garth Brooks shows going on that night so the groups were overlapping, as well as the normal Friday cried. After visiting nearly every venue in the city, we chose Patrick's as the location for our wedding reception and we could not have been happier with our choice. I was nervous at first because after our event was booked the YUM Center scheduled a big concert on the same night as our reception. Despite how busy they were, the staff at Patrick's handled our reception like pros. We had the second floor to ourselves and you would never have known how busy the rest of the restaurant was. The food and service were great and our guests all raved about how cool the atmosphere was. The cozy, candle-lit booths created quite a romanic setting, which was exactly what we were looking for. Went here for while in town for a convention. DELICIOUS. The bourbon margarita was great. We ordered many appetizers. Nothing disappointed. I liked the pork empanadas and the fried pepper jack cheese balls the best. Wings also great. We also had fried green tomatoes, and pretzels with beer cheese. I am not a fan of beer cheese but here, it was great. A few in our group also had burgers and said they were great. Had an amazing server. They were pretty busy but our waters were always full and drinks replaced as needed. Plates removed timely and just overall, great experience.
