Tried this for lunch today which was recommended by a friend. Man, am I glad I did! It's a family owned establishment and very unassuming. There are wooden booths throughout the restaurant and patrons seat themselves. The servers are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The food is delightful, not too salty or spicy and perfection at it's finest. Warm tortilla chips and a nice, smooth and spicy green salsa greets you while looking over the menu. I ordered the Asada Tacos Plate which has 4 fully stuffed corn tortillas filled with steak. The retried beans on the side melted in my mouth and were so smooth and creamy. The rice was simple but delightful. It was all served with a fresh medley of tomatoes, onions and jalapeños on the plate, which I topped the tacos with. My husband ordered the chicken burrito which was a tortilla stuffed with retried beans, rice and shredded chicken. It was smothered in a delicious green chili and cheese and topped with sour cream and fresh guacamole. My partner and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. The place was not too busy but had a decent amount of customers for a Sunday afternoon. We started with chips and salsa. The chips were very fresh but lacked salt. The salsa was way too hot for me though. I had the combination plate. I was concerned the Mexican salsa on the food would be too hot for me because the waiter said they used the same salsa as was served with the chips to smother the food with but it was not at all too hot. In fact, it was delicious but did lack salt. All the food was fresh, hot and very tasty but needed salt. I had the crispy relleno but did not think it was crispy but it was not soggy either. It was delicious and had the perfect amount of cheese and spice to it. The serving sizes are good and the cost is very reasonable. However, the margaritas are a bit overpriced. Patzcuaro's was a bit of a let down. I ordered the Chile Rellones, which is one of my new go to orders at Mexican restaurants. It was overall pretty good, especially the sauce on them. However everything came out room temperature. Perhaps if they would have come out warm I would have liked them significantly better. The chips really needed some salt but the salsa was a great spice! First impression: trendy, cozy spot in the highlands, and I had no issues finding parking. As I walked in, I let them know we'd have a party of 5, so they seated us in a nice corner bench and brought over chips and their phenomenally flavorful green salsa. We came here after the Broncos game. They lost, which was disappointing, but we thought some margaritas and Mexican food could cheer us up. We chose Patzcuaro's because of its 4-star review. Our experience did not in any way cheer us up. Problem 1: Slow service -We waited for 15 minutes before they greeted us, and when our server finally greeted us and asked what we wanted to drink, he immediately left to attend to another table before we had a chance to respond -We waited another 15 minutes for our margaritas to arrive -Additional margaritas were slow to arrive -Food didn't come out at the same time Problem 2: Latest possible notice of lack of supply -I ordered the Carne Adovada. After everyone at our table received their food, they informed me that they were out of what i had ordered. After everyone had their food!! They did at least ask me if I would like something else, I said no. Problem 3: Full price -In the food service industry, when you screw up and forget to tell your customers that you don't have the food they ordered after everyone else received their dish, you comp at least a portion of their meal. Simple. They offered us nothing. Problem 4: Weak margaritas -We each had 3 and felt nothing. The food that did arrive tasted good. We called ahead to reserve for a table of 15 they had us sit separately therefore, my sister sat with her kid and my other sister which was a party of 6 they asked if they can have a separate check being that they were at a separate table and they refused after we realized they didn't want to because over a party of 6 they charge a 20% gratuity which I was told is against the law. They also charge a 3% kitchen fee which is unheard of. My mom arrived 5mins later, the server was bringing our drinks at that point we advised they were ready to order as we were all getting menudo however, he forgot and didn't take her order until we were already eating. Now really, do you think he deserves a 20% tip. We continuously had to ask for napkins, knife, lemons and chili before he brought it. We won't be returning and I don't suggest this place. read more

We went there for an early dinner on Mother's Day. There were several tables awaiting cleaning and the bartender walked up our party of five after we were waiting for 15 minutes (and another 4 separate groups had lined up behind us) and seated us at one of the available tables. Then we waited another 15 minutes without any service, no menus, no water, bone of the three waiters walking by even stopping to say "we acknowledge your existence and will stop by presently." Even though they have a passive aggressive sign outside that says "if you sit down without being helped to a table by a staff then y you can't complain about being not helped." Ok. Then we saw the 4 groups that were lined up after us getting served (we know this establishment takes no reservations). So, my wife walked up to the bar tender, I.e. the staff that helped us to the table, and asked for service. Only then did we get someone to show up. The food was good, no complaints there. We ordered two tacos--carnitas and steak; Michoacán torta; Chile Relleno burrito deluxe; enchilada Rojas; and carnitas a La Carte. The two moms at our table each received a complimentary slice of chocolate cake. Overall, we felt the food made it up for the sub par service. read more

I'm not really fond of Mexican food but my husband loves Mexican food, I have tried a couple of restaurants and they fail every time according to me and my taste buds until my daughter told us to try Patzcuaro's and OMG!! This food taste so good I was really amazed. We really appreciate the service it was timely and they were very friendly, this place is excellent this is the first restaurant I've ever been to and all the waiters are nice friendly men. Came here based on yelp reviews and really enjoyed it. A bit outside of the walking zone from home but plenty of street parking nearby. We were seated quickly. A couple TVs but mostly soccer playing which is common for a Mexican Restaurant. Very neat decor. The chips and salsa came out fast as did the food. Homemade tortillas were very tasty as was my shrimp dish. The service faded a bit after what appeared to be a VIP showed up with his family. Most of the wait staff focused on that table. A different waiter than the one serving us cashed us out. Overall one of the top Mexican Restaurants I've experienced since living in Denver. This is my new favorite mexican restaurant. I have tried so many mexican restaurants and none seem to hit the spot like "Patzcuaro's". The salsa is fantastic. My favorite thing to get are the tacos albanial which is like tacos alcarbon but with jalapenos and potatoes mixed in. To die for!! Well I have 3 big complaints: The first bring a lack of a kids menu, I had 3 kids with me ages 11,10 and 4 and while they were able to make a quesadilla for my toddler, who two older kids had to order the full price adult meals. Second is that the food lacked any life or flavor. It was good tasting but it didn't have that added wow favor you get gone good ol' authentic Mexican food. It was missing something, like the restaurant was out of a key ingredient or seasoning. Finally, my margarita tasted like water. It too lacked that extra special taste. This place is named after a city in Michoacan Mexico that is famous for their Day of the Dead celebration. It is also near my hometown of Morelia. I've dined here many times, and I have to say that tacos are the way to go. My favorite are the Tacos al Carbon, served with a cold Negra Modelo. In a neighborhood with no shortage of fantastic mexican restaurants Patzcuaro's is always our go-to choice in a pinch. I really appreciate the down-home feel that this place oozes. It's a no-frills spot so if you are looking for a hip & trendy spot keep searching. But if you are looking for authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price paired with customer service that would make Southwest Airlines blush then look no further. Found this place on Yelp after looking for a good taqueria near our apartment. I was glad we walked, because we really needed it after all th food we ate! Before we sat down, someone was on the way to our table with chips and salsa. The house salsa (a green salsa) is great, with just the right amount of heat. We ordered horchata to drink, and we were served HUGE glasses (actually, metal containers that looked like they came from a milkshake machine). The horchata was thick and tasty, but we definitely needed water as well. I had a carnitas plate, served with guacamole and beans. I was completely satisfied, though I usually prefer my carnitas a bit crispier. But it was tasty nonetheless and not very fatty at all. My companion had porkchops, which came with a spicy potato stew. Good, solid Mexican with a few offerings that are not run-of-the-mill. Good stuff. read more

I spoke to the owner about how tough it is to stay open In this crazy time, and yet he was so positive and professional. As was his staff. I dined here tonight and was very disappointed in the service and quality of food! We had kids with us and we clearly were annoying to them. The waiter was rude by me asking for extra salsa to go with my meal or the fact that he forgot to place my son's order and blamed it on me! They brought out the wrong order for the kids too. I use to love coming to this place. The chips and salsa were my favorite. Not sure if the cook has changed, but some food no longer taste the same. The staff were exceptional, the atmosphere was always on point. However, the last two times I have gone. We have been mistreated by one of the waiters. He is the tall light skinned blad man. He basically seems bothered when attending to us. I was able to notice the difference on the service he would give us compared to another table. On another note, he almost ripped our head off for sitting at a table. He didn'realize that another waiter sat us down. I understand someone is having a bad day, so I give them a chance. But to do this to us twice after being a customer for over 40 years. It is completely disrespectful. That waiter needs to be out in check. All other waiters are awesome. Denver is a town with literally dozens of great options for all permutations of Mexican cuisine. Tex-mex, Cal-mex, authentic Mexican, New Mexican... you name it. Unfortunately, Patzcuaro's doesn't do any of them well. One dimensional and uninspired, Patzcuaro's has raised their prices to match the gentrification of the neighborhood which makes it even harder to justify their food. The tacos were served on a single soggy corn tortilla with nothing but a blob of meat on top. No authentic toppings and no offer of such. No crisp white onions, fresh cilantro or jalapeños. Not even a selection of salsas to add any depth to the meat. The $10! House Margarita was sickly sweet and what you would expect from a marg straight from a bottle of mixer. Overall the plates were grey and bland with nothing standing out or noteworthy. I've now given them two visits and there's nothing to make me think I need to go back for a third. Apparently they have a following and a bright fancy sign but I can't see how they can compete with any of the true Mexican gems that still dot the neighborhood. There are too many other great taquerias and restaurants out here to explore and enjoy for me to recommend Patzcuaro's. read more

I was a bit taken back by this restaurant at first glance. Mainly because I'm really used to the Denver Mexican restaurants. This restaurant is more authentic, thus, I wasn't used to this pallet. The food is actually really good. Flavors are different but popping. The location is excellent, in the highlands area. Seating is a bit tough when you have large groups. There is an a lot of large group seating. It's a really cute restaurant, with pictures of Mexico. Definitely a rare find, and want to check out! read more

The food was better than average, I'll give them that. My chili rellano crispy was too spicy and not crispy enough, but oh well. The tortillas were perfect, rice and refried beans delicious and made in house. They get two stars for service. Getting help was like pulling teeth, we had to ask for several items more than once. Don't go anytime near closing. I got a coffee which when I tried to get my ONE free refill on, was told by one person that the machine was broken and was told by another one that they had already turned it off for the night --so one of them lied to me. Still charged me the same amount, though. One guest at our table didn't get served her meal for at least 8 minutes after we had all been served ours. Four adults at the table, all ordered dishes with tortillas, they gave two warmers with two tortilla each in them. Plus they have a poster on the wall advertising their " LUCH SPECIALS". Ugh. It appears I'm on a Mexican food kick lately. Finding Patzcuaro's via Yelp search was a great find. I was only in town for one night on business so I wanted a great meal close by my hotel. Patz certainly fit the bill. I had the pork smothered in green chili sauce dish with their corn tortillas. It exceeded my expectations regarding flavor, the tenderness of the pork, and of course the spiciness of the sauce. This appears to be a neighborhood restaurant with a lot of regulars stopping by and ordering without looking at the menu. My kind of place for sure. The chips and salsa were OK, and I liked the heat from the salsa. Lastly service was prompt and I liked the fact that I could watch sports on their big screen while dining solo... This place is one of my favorites. I love the food. What I love about it is that it is not dripping in cheese. I normal have the tacos with beef, potato's, onion and jalapeño my normal go to, but this night I had the shrimp in garlic sauce so yummy. They have a nice little patio in the summer and I don't think we have ever had to wait very long. Service seems to be a group effort and that makes it easy to get anything you may need. My only complaint is the salsa - it's not consistent. I can handle extremely hot food and have found at times it's way to hot. Other times it is a flavorful perfectly spiced salsa.
