My wife has been cutting her hair with Vince for some time now and would not trust her hair to anyone else. She even followed him from his previous salon to Style Loft Hair Studio. A couple of her friends cut their hair with Vince, too. And recently, our twin daughters - now that they are preteens and are more picky about their hairstyles - are happily clients of Vince as well. Seems like all the stylists at Style Loft are independent - booking their own appointments, etc. But I'm sure if you called, they'd get you in contact with Vince (or anyone else) to schedule an appointment. Salon location is convenient - across Ala Moana Shopping Center - so lots of parking and things to do (while you're waiting for your wife and daughters to get their hair cut, washed and styled). COVID safety protocols in place - temperature check and hand sanitizing on entry, stylists' stations and hair washing stations divided by partitions, mask wearing mandatory, only clients allowed inside - no additional guests - to minimize the number of people in the salon. I went in for balayage and thought it was odd that the stylist used foil. I was expecting a hand painted look but ended up getting a ton of mini highlights. This salon is located across the street from Shokudo and next to Tea Boss and Pho One on Kapiolani. Sorry, I don't know the name of the building itself. It's near Ala Moana and a few minute walk to Don Quijote. The salon's location is in an odd place (IMO) because it's on the side of the building and can be easily missed unless you're specifically looking for the salon. The Salon opened in January or February so it's fairly new. Many of the stylist have been in the field for many years!! The stylist community is smaller than I thought. My stylist asked me about my previous stylist and she knew her!! I parked at Target and walked to the Salon. You can also park on the bottom level of Ala Moana. As far as I know, street parking is limited and not sure if you're able to park in the building's lot. As I walked in, I thought the salon had a lot of space. Great for both stylist and client to walk around and enough space between stations. The receptionist checked me in and guided me to the dressing room to put a robe on. She also asked me if I wanted a beverage as well :) On this day, I came in to color my hair. I sent my stylist a few pictures of what I wanted. The stylist did warn me that the process was long. Thanks for the heads up!! We highlighted, washed, toned, washed, then styled. The cost of my hair coloring was about $200. IMO is a great price! Five star for Haugen, he is very gifted in his craft. My second time and not my last. I was recommended to him by my three daughters. My blonde highlights have never looked so good, and he always gives a great cut and blow dry as well, not to mention the relaxing neck massage during the shampoo. I'm giving a star deduction to the salon's lighting, they need to put some soft light strips down the side of mirrors. You want your guests sitting in the chair to see their face in good lighting. The recessed ceiling lighting may work to make hair look great, but it makes an already old person look even older. I'm giving the star back for friendly staff. Kevin was my stylist. He charged me $240 for the worst cut and color. My hair was down to my waist. He never asked me if I wanted to donate my hair. He literally took 3 sections and cut it straight across. And don't get me started with the color. I could've color it myself and it would've came out better. If you haven't found someone you like or trust with your hair, give her a shot. The salon is located by ala Moana. Easy to park your car on the bottom floor by Macy's and walk over so free parking! Now that we're in the middle of a pandemic, the salon is taking extra precautions - sanitizing clients hands and doing a thermal check when you check in. So ever since my hair lady moved away years ago, I was never able to find someone that I wanted to stick with. No more salon hopping for me! Shaina was such an amazing stylist and really listened to what I wanted without trying to change my mind. (Most stylists love my long, layered hair. Away with it!) She's also a great conversationalist. You won't ever get bored! The salon itself is brand new, built from the ground up and only opened last month in January. Everything is so beautiful inside! I love the vibe that you get in there and it wasn't very busy at all so that was nice. And even if it was, there is tons of space between stations so you have some room! After checking in, there is an adorable waiting area. When your stylist is ready for you, they will escort you to a changing area where you can get comfortable in one of their black robes. This is just my personal experience, but Shaina washed my hair and gave me a head massage (amazing), cut my hair, and then styled it into soft curls when I was finished. My total came out to $81 (including tip)! For everything I experienced, it was definitely worth the price. I was also happy to see that each stylist had their own individual credit card machine, so no more wondering if my credit tips actually went to them. This review is for Jackie Kouture. Avoid her at all costs. Think twice before you book with her because you will be punished and robbed of your time and money if she cancels on you and you will not get your deposit back. She does business with absolutely no morals. She cancelled last minute due to unforeseen personal reasons which is understandable and am truly sorry for. But what I don't understand is that she would keep her clients' deposit for her own cancelling. Yes, she did apologize and said she would honor your deposit and give you a discount even years later but thats ONLY if you rebook (assuming you have availability to rebook and she has availability in her schedule - in which I did not given my limited time frame on the island). Her reasoning is because she can't accommodate for one specific client. This means that if all her clients (7 total) she cancelled on could not reschedule, she would be keeping all 7 of our deposits for something we had less than 24 hours notice on. If the client (me) were to cancel less than 24 hours from appointment, my $100 deposit would've been forfeited which I understand. But what I don't understand why it's okay for the business to cancel less than 24 hours and still keep the $100 deposit because that deposit goes to holding a service I will not be receiving (this is double standards). Her reasoning is that it's a nonrefundable deposit even though her policy states that deposit will go to a service (in which I will not be receiving due to her inflexible policy). But yes punish your clients for this and make them pay because that makes sense. She said she would also take into consideration me calling her out that she had no morals for doing business like this and "insulting" her for having no morals. I really hope she does take this into consideration so she can rethink her policy which she refuses to make exceptions for so she doesn't waste any more clients time and money. You've been warned - good luck with her. read more

Style Loft just opened this month. This hair studio is super clean and spacious. The design and decor is something like what you would see in a high end salon in New York. Hands-down, this is going to be the next trendy hair studio in Honolulu! I really like that the chairs are not close together so you have your own space to relax and not have to listen to other peoples conversations. My stylist for the past 10 years is Howard and I've been following him around every time he moved. He's the best stylist I've ever had and he's so down to earth. There are other stylists there that are also bilingual - Japanese, Korean, Chinese, they've got you covered. I saw a celebrity walk in for her appointment today (someone from Magnum PI). Got a cut/color from Trish and couldn't be happier. Took about 10 inches of hair off and ended up with a cute lob (?) a little shorter than I was anticipating, but I rarely get my hair cut and it literally grows like a weed. Plus, no complaints because it ended up being so cute. Trish really took into consideration my (self admitted) inability to get a scheduled cut/color. I try to get my hair trimmed every time I come back home to Oahu to visit but as I get older, those visits seem to be few and far between. She hand painted some balayage and let me know how easy it was to upkeep and showed how regrowth wouldn't make it look like I was drastically overdue for a color. My hair stylist is Haugen, and he is pretty awesome at finding that diamond in the rough and hair-whispering his masterpiece out of whatever you give him to work with. After almost 4 weeks of resting my hair I found another salon but this time has actually great stylist fix the monstrosity Jackie aka Jackie couture gave me 3 stylist pointed out every error she made for one she foiled to thick of sections witch is why my hair did not lift evenly for 2 she used the wrong formulation of toner for the level she lifted me to for 3 she rushed a balayage done professionally no matter how thick or thin your hair is it's done in 4 hours minimal Jackie done a hair cut style and lightening all within 2 and a half hours she rushed on me she also didn't cut my hair evenly one side of my hair was shorter the new stylist had to fix that as well not only can she not do a proper ombré/balayage she can't cut hair eather and has a very bad attitude she subs her clients on Instagram? I want to give a big MAHALO to Trisha O and Dayna for the fabulous job they did to my hair! For 20 years I dyed my hair black at a very reputable establishment that was cheap and fast. I would have to go in every 4 weeks to keep ahead of the dreaded gray hairs that seem to come out more and more as the days go by. I wanted to change up my look so Trisha offered to put highlights in my hair, assuring me that it would hide my grays better and it would soften up my look. Trisha, the apprentice, Dayna the experienced mentor, formulated my hair potion specifically for me and strategized the method Trisha would use to apply. Since I had very dark non-virgin hair they informed me that it may take a couple appointments to achieve the color I want. I felt like they were being so honest with me and that they had an invested interest in my hair journey. So then we started, Trisha took her time, applying and then reapplying, checking and double checking, rinsing, washing, massaging, conditioning, and having some great conversations with me. Dayna came around to check on us, advising Trisha, and assisting when need to. Even her assistant came over and helped. What I also noticed at this salon is the team work everyone has there. They shared things, they helped one another, they gave compliments to other clients, the working environment is friendly and healthy. When the staff gets along with each other the clients feel much more relaxed and comfortable. In the end, I am so happy with the results and so grateful for the time and effort Trisha and Dayna put in to make me feel renewed and fresh! Today I went into the salon last minute. I moved to the island just a few months ago. I previously worked front desk at a high end salon in SoCal. I needed a trim badly today so I got on yelp and found a high end salon with 5 stars. First off I did not receive a 5 star service for myself. I went in asking for just my undercut to be reshaved and for the LENGTH of my hair to be trimmed 1-1.5 inch. The stylist proceeded to trim 3 inches off of my length and gave me layers. I asked for my length ONLY to be trimmed, NOT layers. Because of the limpness of my hair and my undercut I now have a shag with these layers. I would have rather had the stylist cut me a complete shoulder length bob instead of what he did on his own term. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If one thing I have learned from previously working front desk of a high end salon is you listen to a client. If you feel like you need to recommend something about their hair please consult with them first. I had zero desire to have layers cut Into my hair again. read more
