    Sentient Portrait of Paula 3
    Brandon O.

I entered Paula Deen's Family Kitchen in Branson with a modest goal: to consume my weight in butter-leavened carbohydrates. I left with a profound sense of spiritual displacement and an empty stomach. The service was prompt, but the atmosphere took a turn for the supernatural shortly after we were seated. While the staff was professional, they failed to warn us about the sentient portrait photo of Paula Deen hanging in the dining area. Midway through our first course, the portrait's eyes began to track our movements with a predatory glint. Without warning, the 2D Paula detached herself from the canvas, stepped into the three-dimensional realm, and began a localized reign of terror. The Incident Log: The Biscuits: My "Ooo-ee" Butter-Drenched Biscuits were the first casualties. She vacuumed them up with a sound like a shop-vac in a flour factory. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Decor: In a display of indiscriminate hunger, the portrait then turned her attention to the centerpiece. She didn't just smell the decorative flowers; she ate the silk hydrangeas and the ceramic vase they were housed in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Collateral Damage: My companion's fried chicken was snatched mid-air. Even the sugar packets weren't safe. It is difficult to critique the seasoning of the meatloaf when the restaurant's namesake--or at least a high-pigment manifestation of her--is busy unhinging her jaw to consume the table's napkins. I reached out to our server to ask if this was a scheduled performance or a breach of the space-time continuum. They simply offered us more sweet tea, which the portrait promptly intercepted and drank through the glass. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Verdict: If you are looking for a quiet family meal, look elsewhere. However, if you want to watch a piece of wall art achieve apex predator status by eating everything in a 10-foot radius, this is the premier destination in Branson.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am still hungry, but I am mostly just impressed by the portrait's digestive fortitude.

Mac n cheese, creamed corn, beef pot roast with rice, biscuit, candied yams, fried chicken, and tossed salad.

Paula Deen's never disappoints! The food is always fresh and delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is soothing and relaxing[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and service is always attentive. We got the fried chicken and beef pot roast. Then the sides were the tossed salad, candied yams, mac and cheese, and creamed corn followed by vanilla ooey gooey. Everything was amazing! The prices have increased and the dessert is no longer included in your meal which is a bummer.

YUM! The meatloaf and corn in the cob were delicious. The mashed potatoes with the country fried steak were a great combo. The green beans, baked beans were good too. The garlic butter biscuits were tasty too! Pam was wonderful and attentive to us. It's very clean in here, didn't even see dust on the light fixtures. Very bright and light inside of here! Wonderful experience!

The restaurant is somewhat tucked away behind Bass Pro Shops along the shopping strip, but it's definitely worth seeking out. We decided to sit at the bar, and Jazz immediately took great care of us. She quickly got us a couple of cold beers, handed us menus, and made us feel welcome from the start. Friendly, attentive service always makes a difference, and Jazz did an excellent job throughout our visit. I wasn't overly hungry, so I ordered the Cheesy Burger, while my colleague went with the Bacon Mac & Cheese Burger. When our food arrived, we both realized we may have underestimated the portion sizes. These burgers were huge! They were packed with flavor, cooked well, and loaded with toppings. Even with healthy appetites, we could only finish about half of our meals and ended up taking the rest with us for later. As we were enjoying our food, we noticed an eerie fog bank slowly rolling across the lake. It created a unique and almost surreal backdrop that made the evening even more memorable. Between the beautiful scenery, perfect weather, excellent service, and delicious food, it turned into one of those unexpected dining experiences that sticks with you. Great meal, great atmosphere, and a fantastic way to spend an evening in Branson. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town.

The poutine was fabulous. The fry coating was crisp and tasty and the gravy was full of flavor. The Reuben sandwich is outstanding! The way they cut that corned beef was nothing short of magic. An egg on there? What? I've never heard of such a thing, but yes please. And I had the brûlée corn; which I may need to learn how to replicate because I've never seen this on any menu in Chicago, but it's too far to travel as often as I'll be thinking about that dish! The old fashions were smooth! Went with vanilla and loved the subtle flavors. Everyone was so nice and the atmosphere was a delightful mix of old school pub/English castle. All of it was just what I was hoping to find. Food off the beaten path that deserves a huge shout out. In a town of bland flavors, this place shines like a real gem!
