After 40 years starting at Casa Jose's Norma and I came up with the perfect combination for my Tacos Desayunos:: Jalepenos, Huevos, Cheese, Sausage, Guacamole. Just recently we added Habanero Peppers when available. They're Picante but not too Picante!!(. I appreciate that Norma and the others help me choose other combinations. Have breakfast here once a week on average. Great breakfast tacos and huevos Ala mexicana. This time I tried the tortilla soup! It was filled to the brim with chicken, veggies, tortilla strips and cheese. Hardly any room for the broth. With big slices of avocado on top made it a very hardy meal. Only thing missing are good table chips. The ones they serve, I'm not a fan of. But their hot sauce compliments the meal and is spicy so watch out! Decent food. Tasted fresh and such. Only gripe was ordered nachos and burrito and neather came with side of sour cream or guacamole. Not even a scoop of it. Server was nice. this place is a hidden gem of a hole in the wall. anyone who has lived in Arlington for a while will be familiar with Casa Jose. this is the same family and they have the same san Antonio style Mexican food recipes that are forever ingrained in my DNA , since i' ve been eating their food for most of my life...let's just say over 30 years. their salsa is one of a kind, not tomato bases, and I could die happy with an IV drip full blasting directly into me. I love going here awesome food the only thing I hate is that some of their breakfast tacos they serve you is saturated with grease making your tortillas soggy and the tacos not enjoyable!!! At least drained the grease before you place it on the tortillas!!! I can't eat them and our waitress just argued and said that's how their made and served greasy told her no they don't cause of eaten at several Mexican restaurants and their tacos are not greasy like that she just kept talking shit and finally took my tacos to get replaced with something else. I need to say that I have been to Paula's before Covid hit and the service was absolutely terrible then. In fact, after 3 tries (again pre Covid) I decided to not go back mostly because the service was so bad. Recently went back twice, to see if either the food or service had improved. Visit #1, July 1 - only 1 other table occupied when I got there. Was waited on quickly & ordered Huevos a la Mexicana & iced tea. Neglected to take a photo, but the food looked great. Eggs were fluffy, though oddly, they had no flavor. The potatoes were sliced and were weird looking. They looked old & previously dehydrated. Texture was ok, but no flavor. The refried beans were absolutely outstanding! Waitress checked on me frequently at first, 2 more tables occupied (total of 4 tables). After waiting on those tables, she NEVER came back. Never looked at me, inspite of me obviously trying to get her attention - I wanted more tea. She then sat down in a booth by the check out counter and started eating. I waited about 10 more minutes and finally gave up. Went to the counter and waited for her to stop eating a second to check me out. I was not happy. Visit #2, July 7 - got there around 9, so more customers. Ordered a carnitas breakfast taco, refried beans & iced tea. I have had carnitas before at other restaurants, same with breakfast tacos. I have never had a taco that just had the meat and nothing else - no lettuce, no pickles onions, something. Tortilla was tough (grew up on the border, so I can judge) and close to half of the meat was pure fat (left , on plate) and the meat was absolutely tasteless. NO seasoning of any type. ZERO. A bit dry & chewy. Again, the beans were great! Waiter checked on me frequently at first, then he disappeared. Not happy. Also, let me say, that in any visit here, you get a half filled basket of chips and between 5 visits, I have never had anyone offer more chips or salsa. I have heard great things about their green chile stew, however, their consistently poor service (a common PRE Covid complaint if you read through the reviews) will guarantee that I don't go back a 6th time. I am all about supporting local & I understand how hard it is to wait on people. I absolutely understand being short staffed, but this is clearly not the issue for this restaurant. When they improve their service, I may go back. Also of note, their prices have gone up substantially. In my first review, I had the Noah's Plate for $6.95. That plate is now $9.95. Other dishes on the menu took an even bigger price hike. The quality doesn't match the price at this point. read more

Used to love this place. For DECADES. When it was Case José on Cooper. It has priced me out, and the green chili stew is no longer spicy. I've given it three more tries, and it just doesn't have the flavor it had for years. Saturday it cost $79 for 4 people to have breakfast...and water! No coffee... I'm done. Like everything else that was once good in this area it's terrible now. There is no lunch menu, or any option for just a couple street tacos/rice/beans. Got 3 carne asada tacos, rice and beans.. $24. I was the only person in the entire restaurant, the cook couldn't be bothered to put his personal phone down the entire time he was cooking, deep fried the carne and then slapped it on the grill for 30 seconds before slapping it into the tortilla. The corn torillas were the strangest white corn tortillas I've ever seen, didn't even bother warming them up, and they were separated because they were probably in a steam bin. The meat after being deep fried was like eating tasteless beef jerky tacos dripped in grease. The rice was bland, dry, and definitely old. The beans, honestly can't knock the flavor but were cold and separated. I called and the woman working the front counter was super rude and hung up on me. Our office is right around the corner and we use to go an do $150-200 orders for breakfast tacos every week but you can see why we haven't been back there in over a year. After reading the reviews, I was a bit apprehensive. Each poor review centered upon service, and I imagined going in on a Sunday morning and sitting for 3 hours. Funny thing - the photo of the chips in the photos section that was supposed to be illutrative of stale chips. That photo is what made me go. I really enjoyed the open nature of the restaurant. The photos don't do it justice. It is larger than it seems. There was a kiddo of all of 14 delivering chips and salsa. I appreciated that, as it reminded me of my first job. My companion thought the chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce were exceptional. I really enjoyed the chips and salsa. Sometime you see a place like this, that closes at 2:30 and you think "How in the hell can they afford to stay open, working such limited hours?" That is not a question I have with Paula's. My husband ordered the menudo and 2 carne guisada tacos..... even the waitress said that she didn't like their menudo, should of listened to her..My food, carne guisada with a side of guacamole was cold and the guacamole was "watery"....the coffee was tasteless and the only creamer they had was a big huge bottle of fat-free creamer...which is gross by the way. Extremely over-priced and better food can be cooked at home. I went to this place, which used to be less expensive, and for 2 bean tacos, 1 quesadilla, an egg w/potato plate, migas, and the Rey plate, and drinks, came out to $81 (not including tip)!!!! Let me also add there was NO type of meat on any of the plates. I went to dinner the next night at a very nice Mexican establishment and we ordered steak, tacos, 2 kids meals and dessert and it was $89 which makes sense considering better quality food, nicer establishment, better location. I decided to call Paula's to see why it was so expensive in comparison considering they have sticky floors and dirty tables and they just said it was price increase. Turns out, after going over my order and having them ring it up again to make sure I was charged properly, they snuck in an extra charge of $8! Next one had beans. Wow it was great. Simple plate of two tacos, no garnish, just goodness. Drink refills offered twice. Now this place is a bit rustic in the GM plant area of Arlington so don't come in looking for decor like Abuelos. This place is ruuuustic. For me, as good as the food was, cleanliness matters. Tables with no patrons should not just be left dirty in half the restaurant. If you seat folks, greet folks. Service is all you sell. We can get food anywhere. I go out for service first, food second or I would just cook at home. Food was a 4, service for not greeting or seating for near 5 minutes a 2. 3 is best I can do. Won't put this place on a revisit. Service is not the best....if the owner is your waitress you'll be fine...anyone else is questionable mostly. No one ever acts like they're in a hurry, so if you want to be late back to work because of the service here, this little hole in the wall won't disappoint. But I don't let that stop me from coming back, I enjoy the homemade Mexican food here! Small place with homemade recipes and food that tastes like everything is made from scratch to order. The beans are THE BEST! You can tell they're made to order and the texture is perfect. I usually get the fajitas and they have a good smokey flavor. I've also had the tamales (quite delicious...again homemade and you can tell has got to be a recipe that's generations old). So good. I ordered the breakfast tacos and chips and salsa. Breakfast Tacos: I ordered sausage egg and cheese, potato egg and cheese, and bacon egg and cheese. Not gonna lie they are delicious, and if you're a cheese lover like me they pile cheese on there so when you unwrap the taco you have cheesy melted goodness just waiting for you. When I ordered SAUSAGE, I was thinking of something along the lines of Jimmy Dean, NO! Their "sausage" is HAM! I was disappointed because I heart breakfast sausage, but the ham was good too. Chips & Salsa: Chips weren't warm and I think chips are MUCH better warm and it makes me think they're fresh even though they probably aren't, but I like to dream. The salsa could be more spicy. I was actually shocked since Mexican people ran this establishment, idk I guess they're catering to the gringos who drop by on a regular and can't handle the spiciness. The "Woman" people complain about: She's not rude, just very straight forward and she likes people to know what they want before they step in (if ordering to-go). My small amount of time there I observed her since I did read the comments before I came.
