Not the most authentic Mexican food place around, but it gets the job done for cheap. Came here for dinner and got it to go. Ordered the pork taco dinner. Pork tacos had no cilantro or onion on them. On the positive side, they were tasty enough to demolish in under 5 mins and I didn't have to spend much either. Also got a free drink on the house which was nice. I think next time though, I'd rather spend a few extra bucks on something I think is a little more authentic. read more

Great little joint tucked away on Route 14 in Barrington. They had just run out of take out menus. Wish they had them. My son order 2 steak burritos. They were good. Lots of refried beans tho. Super-cheesy quesadillas and petite tacos full of flavor! Bronco Burrito is a great, unassuming Mexican restaurant if you're seeking a great meal near Barrington. With my first outing, I tried a few things: chicken quesadilla, chorizo taco on corn shell, rice and beans. The rice was passable. Not really my flavor, but a good portion. The beans were better than average. Good consistency, not watery at all. As I noted, the chorizo taco was a bit small, so be sure to get at least two. Size aside, the flavor was spot on. Great chorizo and the corn shell was a bit toasty which was a perfect! Now, the chicken quesadilla is worthy of my order every time I walk thru the door. I had the larger of the two sizes available. The chicken had a great flavor, but the cheese! Oh the cheese! Plenty of it! SO great! I will definitely be back to try many, many other menu items. read more

This place is somewhere between Taco Bell and authentic. The meats they use are ok, but flavor is lacking in the beef and pork. Meals are made by teenagers that didn't appear to have the best hygiene (using cell phone while prepping a meal). If you get the 3 taco meal, it comes with 3 tacos and beans and rice. The beans are from a can and the rice is very dry and has canned vegetables mixed in it. Beans and rice need to be on point for any respectable Mexican restaurant. Their salsas are homemade and have decent flavor. The restaurant itself is outdated inside, but not terrible. I was expecting better food based on the reviews, but I was disappointed twice. Maybe the strong reviews are a result of the lack of quality Mexican food around the area. Probably won't be back. read more

They are not set up to handle the carry out orders. 9 people were waiting for their food. I waited 30 minutes longer than my pick up time. I inquired why and the young man said "we're waiting on chips ". Our food sat on the country for 30 minutes for chips. Chips came out, he put them in someone' else's bag. I had to ask him to get our chips, and that our food has been in a bag on the counter for 30 minutes. Got home and $75 worth of food was cold. They guy before me experienced the same thing. He waited 30 extra minutes for 3 chicken burrito dinners that were also ready in their bags. His food sat for 30 mins as well. He had to ask for his food as well. Same thing for another customer. Food sitting in bag. Can't figure out how to get it to customers. There were only 9 carry out orders. Also, it was very hot in there. Very uncomfortable waiting 30 minutes in the heat, with masks and gloves. Please get your act together. read more

Not going back here. Food is fine but service on last visit was anything but. People standing on street waiting for orders because of total disorganization, rudeness when placing order on phone and signs all over interior advising of extra charges for seemingly everything. Worst of those is a charge for use of credit card; quite odd at present time. I try to support local small businesses but expect them to support the community too. I swapped the lettuce for cilantro which was just what my taste buds needed to sing a requiem for Elysium. M got the tacos too and she's a taco connoisseur. We agreed that what made these tacos incredible was the meat. The ground beef was good quality and the portion of meat was generous. I'm used to tacos where the lettuce (or cilantro), tomatoes, and cheese overwhelms the meat so Paul's Burrito Express was a welcome exception. Our buddy Dan got the burrito and he seemed to like it. We enjoyed watching sour cream ooze out onto his face and hands while he conquered the beast! ***** FRIENDLINESS. The employees were friendly to us. Bronco burrito just threw a wrench into the Barrington lunch game. My co-workers and I usually have a go-to spot for every type of cuisine for our lunch break, whether it's burgers, pizza, Asian, breakfast, etc. For cheap tacos, old reliable has been Paul's burrito express for the past few years. We always thought what could be better than Pauls? The tacos were good and cheap, and it was within minutes of the office. Well, the answer is an equally good taco joint even closer to the office: Bronco burrito. We tried going to Paul's on Cinco de Mayo and we were shocked to hear that they were so busy there was a 30 minute wait to get your food. Ain't nobody got time for that. Refusing to give up on our taco crave, we took a gamble and gave Bronco burrito a shot since we were always curious how good it was. It recently took over the old Kooker's location and we were pretty skeptical it could top Paul's. First off, I gotta say the parking lot was bigger and the inside was much nicer than Paul's. But the true test had to be the food. Just looking at the menu, everything looked really similar price-wise. Tacos were slightly more expensive, around the $2.50 mark, and burritos were hovering around the $5-6 range. I got the some of the same stuff I usually get at Paul's and it was pretty damn close in terms of quality. I'm convinced that Bronco either buys from the same distributor or they are somehow secretly affiliated with Paul's. The similarities are just so close. The chicken was just as moist and flavorful, the beef was almost as good, maybe just a tad less spiced. The tortillas had a similar freshness to it, and I swear even the salsa and their containers were identical. I was pleasantly surprised with the food here. Service was a little slow, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it was just the extra Cinco de Mayo traffic. Overall, a solid new addition to the Barrington lunch scene. I hate to say it, since I'm a loyal Paul's fan, but Bronco just might steal some of my business if I don't feel like dealing with the backed up traffic on Hough St. read more

This place has delicious tacos-my favorite is chile relleno which many taco joints don't have. The fish taco has a tangy sauce and slaw combo that works well with the fried fish. I went with the non-fish taco dinner with steak, chicken and pork (they do also have fish tacos). All were tasty, it's clear that the chicken and steak are grilled here and fresh. The pork is also tasty, it's sliced pieces like the steak rather than shredded/carnitas, and it's fairly spicy (but not too hot even for a non-hothead like me). It also appears to be grilled here. The tacos are on soft corn tortillas. Rice and beans are pretty standard. The restaurant is clean and well lit with mostly booths and a few tables; you order at the counter and someone brings it out to you. Total for the dinner plus a small horchata was just over $9. I'm hoping these folks do ok, I certainly expect to be back - possibly even to try their (small) breakfast menu. I don't believe they have public wifi of their own, but I picked up both Comcast/Xfinity and attwifi (from the McDonalds' across the street). read more

This place does ALOT of Business & has multiple locations even, they don't need to charge a .79c upcharge for Debit/Credit cards. Also, it's not a "Cash Discount" as they try to claim, it's a "Debit/Credit upcharge", ridiculous in this day and age. After reading all the reviews, I decided to give this place a try since it was right next to my dentist and I had no dinner ready at home. I got the fish tacos since everyone raved about them. They were good. The fish was thin, crispy strips of fish but really there wasn't much fish flavor at all. I won't say that it wasn't delicious because it still was (probably the texture and other flavors more than anything). I'd love to try their other tacos next time. I also got their steak burrito dinner. BIG burrito filled with steak, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream. I'm probably used to Chipotle rather than authentic Mexican food but I really kind of wanted some rice inside my burrito. There was TONS of steak and the tortilla was cooked perfectly. Downside to the steak was that it was a bit salty. The rice tasted authentic but lacked a bit of flavor. Not the best rice I've had but it was still good. I'm really not a fan of beans but I decided to give them a try... well I'm still not a fan of beans so that gives you an idea of how I felt about them. I would definitely give this place another try to try some other dishes. I don't think there's any Mexican restaurants around that area so it really is a great spot. Yeah, I know there's dozens of places that do them and I'm sure there are places that do them better then Paul's Burrito Express, but this is Barrington; not known for it's in-depth Latin connection... Oh, and another thing. When was the last time you went to a restaurant and found the prices on the menu marked down: will wonders never cease! Paul's is the genuine article with the full range of all the recognizable Mexican dishes from appetizers (Botanas) to deserts. And if your kids won't eat Mexican there are hot dogs, french fries, grilled cheese, and chicken fingers. The ambiance is fast food, but one could bring a libation or two to the party even though the staff wasn't sure what their BYOB policy is. You can apologize later... So if you're in the hood, you owe it to yourself to check this little gem out. They are the real item, and you can tell because of the fast, genuine, and simply prepared food. read more

Wow. Just wow. Just got three meals delivered via door dash and a good portion of it was thrown away. Paid extra for steak that couldn't be chewed. Quesadilla only had a dusting of cheese. Rice was crunchy - definitely not fresh. Chimichanga contained shredded, funky seasoned, highly questionable chicken. To top it off - they forgot my sour cream. This is a great little place. La Mesa on NW Hwy has been my local staple for Mexican food for many years now; it seems I'll have to split my time now. I believe this restaurant is tied to several other, including ones in Wauconda and Mundelein, but the names are a bit different and this one isn't listed on the site yet. But the menu listed on the site is the same. I've only been here twice so far but have been pleasantly surprised. I ordered tacos on my first trip; tried one each of chicken, beef and chorizo. I have to admit that the chicken was a bit dry and bland (that's the hurdle with chicken) but both the beef and chorizo were excellent. Rice and beans are classically delicious. And while I prefer my salsas, or at least one of the options, to be REALLY spicy, both are at least flavorful (a green and red). My second trip I tried the queen burrito. It's very nice to have that option on size. This time I tried the steak, which was very good, albeit somewhat runny. As someone who usually has to talk themselves out of getting Mexican food whenever I crave it, it will be much harder now that I can convince myself to be impartial between the two local spots. Taco Tuesday, and burrito Wednesdays it is! Definitely give this place a try if you're in for a quick bite. They live up to the speediness of their name. read more

I went for lunch, and was surprised there were no lunch specials. I went and ordered the taco dinner special (3 tacos, beans and rice), a side or chips and salsa, and a fountain drink. All together around $11. I should have skipped the salsa and chips because There was so much food. It also took about 20 minutes for my food to be finished, but I also suspect I came at the height of lunch rush. I'm also glad I didn't order the burrito because its as big as my head! I got the chicken tacos, and they were good. The chicken was moist, topped with cheese and tomatoes (I opted for no lettuce). I wish the tacos came with more on top, but then again I didn't ask. read more

The tacos were smaller than the palm of my hand and that is with all three tacos put together. They are miniature and lack taste. The steak they use taste gritty as if it's the cheapest they could find. I honestly don't get the good reviews at all. Now that the word is out, they do seem a bit short handed with all the business they are getting. Still, I think the longest I've waited is about 10 minutes. Always very friendly as well.
