Still fantastic. Easily the best place to eat in Westminster. Plus the people there are super friendly.

I'm not trying to say there aren't any decent sandwich shops on the west coast because there are and a few that I will really miss when I leave California. What I am saying is if you are from California or anywhere west of buffalo NY you have a completely different understanding of the word "Italian deli" then people on the east coast, especially people like myself, that are from the NORTHeast where Italian food is king and just in a completely different category then anywhere else in the country, If you know you know! And any east coast "deli" from Philadelphia all the way up to Boston is going to be Italian owned therefore "Italian made". Everything you get from them from the Italian bread to the boars head cold cuts or hot pastrami or hand breaded chicken cutlets to the pasta and homemade sauces is made with the best quality and ingredients and make them almost impossible to beat! So when I went in to Paul's deli today for the first time I wasn't expecting much. I did like the "hole in the wall" appearance of the place and usually look for those type of places to eat at since they usually have the best food and make you feel at home. Right away the guy behind the counter who I assumed was one of the family members that own the place welcomed me in with a loud voice and easy sense of humor that I'm used to. The menu on the board on the wall was probably made 20 yrs ago and half the letters marquee letters were missing so I just asked him "what's good here?" He told me to try the Italian cold cut which I normally love and I'm sure would have been a good choice but I was in the mood for a hot sandwich and went with the hot pastrami which is probably my go to favorite sandwich when it's made right. I chatted with him while I waited and found out they were Italian and that he had been here 45 yrs which was very impressive for a place out here like this. I got my hot pastrami sandwich within 8-10 min and when I got in my truck I opened it right away and I saw the bread was warm and fresh plus I like it nice and crispy which it also was and as soon as I took a bite I was immediately impressed! The cheese melted nice and creamy just enough yellow mustard and the pastrami was tender and cooked right on the grill nice and hot not rubbery microwaved pastrami which I hate and have found is how a lot of places make a hot pastrami sandwich out here instead of grilling the pastrami and it's such a disappointment. You will be able to tell right away after you try the food here why they've been here for so long I am anxious to go back and try more as they had pasta and other Italian foods on the menu. Hands down this is the best Italian style deli sandwich I have had in California and I will definitely be back and highly recommend!!! read more

I have been in Orange County for many years. In regards to service and friendliness, I have never felt more welcomed anywhere by any staff at any establishment as much as I have at Paul's Deli. Matt is one of the most humble and kind of people to talk to so I'm always happy to come by and talk to him when I'm getting something to eat. Many places change overtime and sometimes they change in a negative way, but for as long as I have known Paul's Deli, it has always remained the same and I know that I can depend on Paul's Deli to deliver the same level of quality and hospitality I received since day one. I have been coming in since 2016 and will keep coming back on a semi-weekly basis for that delicious red pasta and italian sausage. My Uncles and Aunties put my on this place in 1997, I was just 6yrs old. I order the same thing which is the Pauls Special with Avocado & large Red pasta. They have a wide majority of cold and hot sandwiches but I recommend the Pauls Special and red pasta. My girlfriends craves the red pasta every month. The red pasta Is spectacular side for a sandwich if you ask me. Paul the manager and his son are super friendly and love supporting local sports teams and nonprofit organizations. The bread they use for the subs is amazing. I could eat the bread by itself. So good! My family ordered the meatball sub, the Italian sub, and the chicken Alfredo. Everything tasted amazing. We ordered the whole sandwiches which made 4 slices of each sandwich so everyone was able to try a little bit of everything. I have never seen this place even though it's been around for awhile, I've been missing out. This is a great place to go for some Italian food. I recently found this deli because I was staying in Westminster for about 6 weeks. Called to order a sandwich and got the best greeting. They answered my questions and were just so friendly. Walked in and they all were just happy and joking and felt like old friends right off the bat. I got my sandwich and talked later that day to my mom and she told me they had been ordering from here for the past YEARS.... My family owns a towing company and they like to support the local fire and police departments and I guess they have always had food sent from here. Over the weeks I stayed in Westminster, I ordered from here a handful of times. Every single time the food was awesome and the service was even better. Me and my friends stopped in to Paul's deli on a whim as we were on our way to Huntington Beach. Luckily for us, Paul's deli is exactly the sub shop we were looking for. The employee who helped us (Paul?) was very nice and friendly. He provided funny conversation and even offered us some pasta for our beach trip! The ambiance was great and is exactly what I expect from a mom and pop sub shop. It was cozy and comfortable. The menu was fair and simple. My boyfriend has been raving about how good this Italian Deli is, so we decided to have lunch here. We came in at 3:10PM and there was one other couple eating there. We quickly ordered a small spaghetti & meatballs and an Antipasto Salad. Simple, right? Wrong. 10 minutes into waiting we hear the older gentleman in the back arguing with someone... ok... We continue to sit patiently in the hot and humid shop. Another 10 minutes go by... I don't see any workers cooking. Strange. The other couple at the restaurant goes up to pay and takes grabs a Togo bag of food. Another guy walks in and orders and they start making his food right away.... cool, but where's our food? It's 3:45PM at this time and my boyfriend is going to be late to his errand. He goes up and asks them to to-go our food since we can no longer eat there. They say sure, no problem. Another 5 minutes go by and I don't see anything being prepped? My boyfriend goes up to the register once again and says he needs to leave and if it's ok to pick up the order later. The owner proceeds to apologize and blame the couple before us for mistakenly taking our order.....?!?!?!!?!! I. Am. Shook. And also really really hungry. We leave the restaurant at 3:50PM with no food, angry, and super hungry. Heard about Yelpers getting together before Ryan's movie events, sounded like a good idea! Discussed organizing a pre-movie meet up with Roy B. - some criteria need to be met though: Reliably rated at least 4 stars overall, located near the event, good for a group of 10-12, and indoor seating due to rain in the forecast! Paul's Deli met those needs - and more!! Dave G. and I went to check the place out - Roy will show up pretty much anywhere that lets him in - but if I'm taking my wife and inviting others - I want to be sure it's good! I was able to try several items over two visits by splitting orders. I've tried the hot and cold Italian sandwiches and a dinner entree. The sandwiches are they way to go here - the full size sandwich is really large - you've been warned! I'd recommend the hot sandwiches over the cold ones - I enjoyed the Chicken parm. and the Eggplant parm: 4.25 stars. Tried the Roast pork and the Italian sub: 4 stars The manicotti entree I tried, and some others opinions of the hot entrees were pretty much a universal "just ok" - 3 stars. My wife enjoyed her half turkey/bacon and half roast beef/avocado sandwiches - on squaw bread, which made her happy - she felt extra mayo on both was necessary. Service on both visits was great! I spoke with Paul's son, Matthew to give him a "heads up" that our group would be coming in - he was glad to have us, appreciated me letting him know, and offered a couple trays of bruschetta on the house. I got a message from fellow Yelper Laina A to meet up here for dinner before the CMYE movie night. Sounded like a plan to me, so I headed over to Paul's. I had no idea this was a favorite Yelpers spot for grub before the movie nights! this is small shop in a strip mall behind an Arco station right on Westminster Blvd. You would miss it if you were not looking for it. I was seeing a client near by and offered to buy him lunch fire up the ole yelp app and this came up he liked the reviews so we headed over. you order at the counter, then find a seat. The seating is very limited in here but we were lucky to be just in time to get one. We both ordered the large Italian classic sandwich it was huge cut into 4 normal sized sandwiches. I took two halves home, then I ate one of those halves of that while sitting in traffic. the sandwich was very tasty, the bread was little hard and my associate took the top off of his and ate the bottom with the innards, he was able to polish off three out of four sections with this angle. He still took one home. The staff was great and seems like there is a large repeat group that come in and all the people behind the counter interact with the customers not just the counter person. The decor has a lot of boxing memorabilia on their wall. There's quite a lot signed pictures of boxers too. I'm definitely on a sandwich kick right now and what better way to feed my cravings than a stop to Paul's Deli in Westminster. A bunch of other Yelpers have told me that this place was amazing, and I'm sort of kicking myself for waiting until now to try it. Dining in with Jaime P means we are both going to order something that I... I mean we want to try. So we chose two of the things that popped up immediately. He chose the the chicken parmesan, which he questioned whether or not he should do the meal or the sammie. The man at the counter without hesitation insisted that he go the handheld route and he did us right. Though I'm sure the meal itself is pretty tasty, the piece of chicken lathered up in delicious marinara on a perfectly toasted bun literally danced on my tongue. It was piping hot and the mozzarella cheese was nice and gooey. I sort of wish we ordered the large because I totally wanted more than a half. The chicken was moist and there were ingredients up until the last bite. I ordered the cranberry turkey and was just as good. They aren't stingy with their proteins and give you a good amount of cranberry sauce that will make you wish Thanksgiving was around the corner. It's simple, but delish and it works out nicely. Out of the two, my favorite was definitely the parmesan. I would order a large one of those suckers next time and opt for a meatball to accompany it. Jaime had some desserts, but didn't even offer to save me a piece... but he said they were yummy. Apparently the cookies will change people where they wont even consider sharing. Boo. While you're waiting for your meal, you can look at all the boxing memorabilia they have on their wall. There's quite a lot to take in. I was impressed. Met up with some pretty awesome yelp*ers before a movie event here... I've had this cool little sammich shop in a shopping center across the street from Regency Theaters bookmarked for a while now. Just the decor alone of this place gives you a hint of the coolness and awesomeness that Paul's Deli is. They are definitely boxing aficionados, as this place is adorned with many autographed photos of boxing legends. As for seating, maybe 15 people can dine in comfortably. There were six of us seated at the middle table. I'm assuming that there are specials every night, as there were Monday specials posted when I walked in. The Monday special that I chose was the chicken salad with a very yum, garlicky marinara pasta, and a small drink. I enjoyed the generous slices of Provalone cheese that topped my chicken salad sandwich. And how did Paul's know I love me some chopped celery and easy mayo/easy red onions on my chicken salad?!?! It was a near perfect meal! Near perfect because I was only able to finish one half of the sandwich, and I picked at the other half. The other specials were chicken parmesan and either beef or cheese ravioli. You get to choose your side dish: potato salad, macaroni salad, or a pasta. The sandwich is a full sandwich! I thought for a "special" you'd get maybe half a sandwich. Nope. Paul's hooks you up!!! You will definitely leave with a full tummy! Junior is the dude who you want to make your sandwich! Before Yelp Monday Movie nights, a few Yelpers usually meet here for dinner since it's right across the street from the theatre. I was invited by the lovely Laina and finally had a chance to sit down, eat with the Yelp crew, and check this place out. The deli is tiny. We grabbed a table front and center for our small group and most of us just ordered the daily special - chicken parm or the raviolis. I went with the raviolis. Food is made to order so it takes a bit which gave us time to catch up on life and mingle with new Yelpers which is something I always love to do and help bring them into the fold. Food finally arrived and it was hot and fresh and quite filling. Sauce was generous, garlic bread was toasty and garlickly, and to top it off, we got some complimentary cannolis and great service! I've been coming here a lot more frequently and I have never been disappointed. The meatball sub is my favorite. Don't ever order a whole sandwich unless you plan on splitting it with someone. They are HUGE. Their half sandwiches are HUGE too!!! One important note: this center is SUPER GHETTO. If you can't park directly in front of the entrance, be prepared to be approached by bums and see cart-pushers everywhere. This center is probably one of the worst in westminster. I met a couple friends here before a movie across the street. I decided on Monday's Ravioli Special. It came with beef ravioli covered in marinara sauce and cheese, a side salad, garlic bread, and a small drink for $6.99. It's a good amount of food for the price. Everything was okay, nothing special though. I tried some of my friend's pastrami sandwich that came in a French baguette. It was also alright, but a bit too much bread. Lastly, we shared an order of cannoli. They were kind of small, but not bad. Paul's Deli isn't much for service. You just order and pick up your food at the counter. The gentleman taking our orders wasn't overly friendly, nor was he rude. We just placed our orders and he was pretty much done with us. The place is kitschy with boxing memorabilia on the walls. Paul's Deli is definitely one of those joints where they make you feel at home whether you have been going there for years or just popped in for your first visit. I had a business lunch here and tried their Paul's sandwich - it was a pretty darn good sandwich--in retrospect, I couldn't discern what was in this (you can check out my photo) but rest assured it was packed with flavor. You can also add a side of mac salad or potato salad but I went for something out of the ordinary and got their marinara rigatoni- ate that all up. These sandwiches are not for dainty appetites- I finished half of mine and had to wrap the other to-go. Great customer service- the guy taking our order was entertaining. When I stood around, another person asked if he could wrap my sandwich and also asked if I wanted a refill on my soda. Service with a smile here. read more

I wound up here, like many Yelpers have in the past, before a Yelp Goes To The Movies screening. Boxing fans should check this place out for the decor alone. I got a table next to pictures of Primo Carnera and Jack Sharkey. They have different specials every night including one entree and one or two sandwiches. I went with the Cheese Ravioli special. This was one of the best pasta dishes I've had out in a while. The marinara was spiced just right with the tomatoes being not too sweet and not too tart. The salad came in a plastic container but I think that it may have been made fresh, and I liked Paul's Italian dressing. Even the garlic bread was good (by the way, my family never serves bread with pasta. How many carbohydrates do you need at one meal?) This special came with a small drink. All for $7. I have had the pleasure of enjoying Paul's Deli's amazing subs since I was a child. One of my joys has been to expose my kids to Paul's and it immediately became their favorite place that we frequent whenever we can. I live in a different part of the county now and will intentionally go out of my way to get by Paul's and surprise my kids with their amazing sandwiches whenever I can. There are not many places around anymore that truly do it right and this is definitely a treat you don't want to miss out on. Boxing memorabilia is all over the walls, and it's the kind of place where a lot of people, including me, get greeted by name when they walk in and often the staff asks if they want "the usual". I'm a "usual" kind of guy when I go to Paul's. Turkey and roast beef with no tomato... (Don't judge. I'm not disrespecting tomato. I even like tomato, just not on my sandwich or on a burger. I think tomato kind of takes over and doesn't add that much value. Aren't you sorry you wondered why I don't get tomato? You didn't wonder that? Well....tough, this is my review.) When you order it is important to know that a "half" sandwich is about 12 inches long, while a "whole" sandwich is two of those. (Yes, I really do know what 12 inches looks like, and what 6 inches looks like, despite my wife's comments...) Anyway, I used to go in and get a whole sandwich with the four pieces all wrapped separately, so that would be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner during my work shift. Although I generally get the same sandwich, I have tried much of what they have on the menu. Everything I have had has been really good, including the pasta salad. Give Paul's Deli a go, but realize that if you go in right at noon you may not get a seat. The deli is small and has no outside seating, but sandwiches are made quick and they get orders right. Best Deli around! The staff is friendly, the food is great, and Paul himself is a legend! I have visited a lot of places since I first tried Paul's almost 40 years ago, but Paul's Deli is still my favorite. Give them a try and I bet they will become your favorite Deli too! read more

I haven't even tried the food yet, but I'm giving this place a 5 star rating solely based on the customer service and overall atmosphere. This place is old school and definitely has that family run classic feel to it. The guy who rang us up and the owner (I assume) joked with us at the counter and as we were walking away said "oh wait, come back! We've got something else for you" and handed me a box of cannoli on the house.. Which is my absolute favorite! I live right around the corner and don't know why I've never been here before. I walked in here and there were nothing but fat chicks sitting at different tables. Yeah, I think I'm in the righttttt place. The service is a tad slow but I think the Ruben I had was pretty good. The corned beef wasn't salty like the other Ruben sandwiches I've had and it was accented nicely with the mustard. The sauerkraut wasn't overpowering the other flavors from the sandwich which many Rubens fall victim too. If you eat here you can enjoy looking at all the boxing memorabilia hanging from the walls. Many of the items are signed out to Paul himself, which I thought was pretty neat. read more

Let me just say, that Paul's Deli is the mofuckin BOMB. The service is awesome, the atmosphere is great, but forget all that. The service could be awful and the deli could be in a dirty alley for all I care, because their sandwiches are just that good. My friends and I make a weekly drive down from Burbank/Venice respectively to get their sandwiches. Personally, I find the eggplant parm sub to be the lord of all sandwiches, but my friends all rave about the meatball. And don't forget to try the canoli and gelato! They're both great ways to top off your epic sandwich. read more
