Went here to grab a quick bite to eat for lunch. After perusing the menu for a short bit, I decided to go with the ginger tofu sandwich. I'm not opposed to tofu, but it's definitely not something I order typically. However, the ingredients--pickled veggies, ginger cole slaw, sriracha mayo, and whole grain bread--sounded too good to pass up. It took about 5 minutes to put together and at $8.50 it was a good-sized portion of food. As I had imagined in my head, the flavors all worked really well together and there was plenty of each ingredient to give the sandwich a tasty bite. Slow wifi that is only free for the first hour? Not so great. Thanks for letting me know that AFTER I paid $5 for an iced coffee. I would rather go to the Starbucks across the street and get much faster Google run wifi ALL DAY so I can work in peace. I used to go to their other locations occasionally for coffee or tea which were decent. This time I ordered 2 hummus bagels. Whoever made the food must have been in a rush to clock out or never worked in a kitchen before because they got hummus all over the outside of the bagel, on the inside of the bag, and somehow on the outside of the bag too. The bagel was slimy by the time I got back to my place 5 minutes later. read more

*There is a reason for the low rating associated with this Pavement and it is unfair. I am an Allston resident and before pavement came to be there was a bagel shop named bagel rising that people loved and claimed as "their spot". People were upset to see it go and for that reason they have been harsh with these ratings. I actually prefer the pavement bagels and ice coffee. I highly suggest the multigrain everything bagel and the seasonal fall spice flavoring if you're a coffee drinker. read more

I love this Pavement and go here way too often! The Sunrise and Awakening are the best breakfast sandwiches. They always taste a little better on weekdays--I think they just get too slammed on weekends. Their coffee (especially iced) is super and strong, much better than a local competitor I used to really like COUGHCOUGHREFUGE. The staff is fun and friendly. They also have a great customer loyalty program so you can feel slightly better about how much you spend on coffee in a given month... I do wish they'd get better baked goods. They're very mediocre and don't taste homemade. They always have very few too, so on weekends they usually sell out well before noon. They used to have a couple of vegan options that were tasty, but those have disappeared in the past couple months. read more

This is the best everything Bagel in a 2 mile radius. Used to be Bagel Rising and they must have kept the equipment. Kupels still dominates sandwich and hospitality wise but the everything bagel here is a triumph. read more

The Comm Ave location was teeming with students and young professionals on a Sunday morning; very lively. I had ordered The Fix (sausage, egg, cheese, pepper jam) and it was yum!! The coffee was great. The service was fast and friendly. The seating space is not adequate for the crowds that it attracts. The high tops are not comfortable. I've been there 10+ times and I WANT to like this place but it is horrible. I've never seen a coffee/bagel shop that knows less about coffee and seems to be always "out" of bagels. The staff adds to the indie vibe they're trying to cultivate to offset the fact that this is a chain coffeehouse, but there needs to be more emphasis on food prep conditions. When I saw a sweaty, hairy guy prepping my food without any hat/hairnet/etc, I got nervous. Sure enough when I bit into my breakfast sandwich I found a dark beard hair... and then another one. The food and drinks have been decent here, though I'm not a fan of the spongey, microwaved egg on the breakfast sandwiches and I've definitely gotten some questionable (soggy) sprouts. The wait can be a bit long, but can be avoided by going earlier. I won't be going back, though. read more

Was absolutely stoked to find out that they finally have another location in Allston! I grew up (and by grew up I mean my collegiate years) with Pavement Coffeehouse near campus. Now that I live in Allston, it's basically right across the street from my apartment! I only come here when I want to treat myself/when the train is running a little late. Love the bagels here, but they tend to be on the saltier side so beware of that. My all time favorite drink to get here is their spanish latte, usually iced. Love Pavement! read more

This is a review of the ice coffee. Available in small or large only, but the large is pretty big. It's a pretty solid iced coffee- do your own milk and sugar, and they have almond milk available. I appreciate anywhere that has ice coffee ready in the winter, and doesn't just give me hot coffee with ice cubes in it. read more

I can't stay away from the bagels and chia-der! The eggs are cooked in a microwave which is kinda gross (won't order the sandwich again) but I am still a fan of this place. Interent is restricted to a time limit, you have to pay for it after that which is pretty lame because I'd rather spend my money on more coffee and pastries than on internet but with such a small seating area i can understand they are aiming for a quick turn around. I rarely leave reviews, and when I do they're usually positive ones. That being said, I'd hate for anyone to go the experience I went to today. Walked in to a mildly busy Pavement Coffeehouse around 11:30 am. I'd say there were about 10-15 customers at the time, nothing extraordinary for a Sunday morning. By the looks of it the staff seemed freaked out as though they couldn't handle what little demand the place was generating. Side note and piece of friendly advice, maybe if you focused more on prepping the food and less on adjusting you skinny jeans and maintaining an overall detached Hipster bravado you'd be less overwhelmed. Anyway, was in a bit of a rush to catch a bus out of South Station so I ordered an $8 lox bagel and two $4 ice coffees which were handed to me promptly. This is when stuff started getting a bit blurry. Five minutes go by, no bagel. Ten minutes go by, no bagel. Mind you I wasn't the only one waiting for food, people who ordered before me were still waiting. This isn't a five course Michelin meal we're talking about. I mean, I know it's super complicated to smear some cream cheese and a few pieces of smoked fish on a bagel, but by all means 10 minutes should suffice. 15 minutes in my name gets called and I receive the bagel and rush to my Zip car. As I get settled in for my 4 hours bus ride, I'm all anticipation for what must be a glorious bagel. $8 and all. I open up the brown paper bag to discover cream cheese and piece of lettuce on a burnt bagel. Awesome! A lox bagel at $8 should be glorious. I'm talking massive amounts of delicious premium salmon. Not at pavement. Cream cheese and lettuce... Save yourself the frustration, the hipster arrogance and the subpar food and go to the many superior alternatives available in the area. read more

Bagels rising was my favorite place for breakfast in all of Boston. Came back this weekend for the first time in awhile and am so sad and disappointed. No chia bagel! This place is close to where I work and was highly recommended by a customer, so I stopped in one day for a coffee. I was really disappointed in it, especially for the price. No dark roast was offered, so I got whatever the regular coffee is and it cost over $3. Maybe I'm cheap but even starbucks doesn't cost me that much, and I even prefer the $1 coffee over at b-fresh to the lukewarm cup from this place. Don't go here if you like your coffee strong and piping hot. Obviously I can't speak to the rest of their selection, so I'm sorry for the negative review, but between the huge crowd and noise (at ~9 on a Friday) and disappointing cup of coffee I don't think I'll go back. I had previously gone here two other times and had a good coffee and vegan bagel, but this last time I came here I ordered a quad shot latte with almond and the guy gave me a half shot espresso latte, but that wasn't the issue, when I had told him the order was wrong, he gave me a very dirty look and gave me the worst attitude. The barista who is short, has tattoos and a nose piercing is who I am referring to. I have no idea why he works in a place like a coffee shop where you have to interact with customers if you are such a rude person. I told him politely as well and still got his shitty attitude. I also heard him and the other workers talking shit about a customer. I definitely won't be back to this spot. I am not always saying the customer is right either because sometimes there are very rude customers as well, but considering how polite I was, I don't think I deserved that. I used to frequent this Pavement when I lived in the area 5 or so years ago, and supported their sister shops around Boston throughout grad school prior to that. I planned a visit as I knew I'd be in the area and wanted to sit with a pastry and coffee. I approached the counter with no one else was in line and asked the employee behind it if there was almond in a scone I spotted. He said "I don't think so", and when I queried his gray answer said they had no ingredient list since they weren't made on site. I've been to a lot of coffee shops, many of whom source their baked goods, and still can manage to inform customers of what they are selling. I looked at the menu and ordered an iced coffee, and instead of letting me finish ordering or suggesting something without almond from their list of sandwiches he hastily quoted me the coffee price and handed me a coffee with about 4 inches for milk that I was not going to add since their non-dairy option was almond. I added a bagel sandwich to my order -- it was mediocre and lukewarm. My experience of their service today was cold and left a bad taste in my mouth. I gave a 3 because the coffee is still delicious but I won't be coming back. read more
