Words Don't do it. This place's pie is off the charts. They are so friendly. They all say hi when I walk in. Whenever my Girl friend visits from Denver she begs to go there. They welcome her back and thank her for coming. Just a great place with great staff. Good service. Had garlic knots and my nephew had a slice. There was a deal of 2 slices and a drink for $5. So we took advantage of that. The pizza was a tad greasy, but still he enjoyed it. Solid, no frills pizza by the slice. We ordered two slices of mushroom and a diet Coke for 6 bucks. This pizza is nothing special by any means. Just solid by the slice pizza. I would definitely come back. The dudes working the counter were pros, they treated every customer like they were their best friends. The charm of the this place lies in its simplicity. Sure, you can get some hipster-y style pizza with organic this, and grass fed that and the cheese will have a special story about the unicorns it was milked from but by god sometimes you just want sauce, crust, cheese and a single topping with a soda. My girlfriend and I were at Pavone's downtown last night. She had a calzone and I ordered a large pepperoni pizza. It was excellent and we had tons left over. As one of the few downtown eating options within walking distance of work, I'd give this place a thumbs up. The pizza is pretty standard. I sure hope this isn't the best pizza in central NY and I'm 99.9% certain this is not the best pizza in the world. I'd agree that the pizza is foldable, delicious, and the service is friendly, if a bit inefficient. The line is often long and they often don't have the slice I want, but hey, that's life. My wife and I stopped here for lunch as we passed through on a vacation last week. I'm giving it 5 stars because the pizza was great, the price was cheap, and the owner was very friendly. I'm also giving it 5 stars because they have Diet Sprite. We love Diet Sprite but you just can't find it many places these days. Great eats before the game. After spending the morning, touring downtown Syracuse, we were hungry. We came upon Pavone's Pizza and Eatery and ordered a medium neopalitan pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, eggplant and tomato. We also ordered a loaded tossed salad. This place knows pizza. The two chaps running the store were so accommodating and gracious. The pizza was great, good crust, good toppings especially the breaded eggplant. Pizza sauce was fresh and zesty. The salad was fresh and really good. If you're downtown, you gotta eat here. read more

Went back here to give it another shot. I figured with all the great reviews I must have just been there on an off day. I have to say the pizza was much better this time than last. The crust is super thin and crispy. The sauce is a little sweet for me, but not too bad at all. It's definitely some of the best pizza downtown. read more

The Platonic ideal of pizza. Totally agree with the other reviewer that it is the best pizza in the world, including some famous joints in the city. Has the correct fusion between the layers of sauce, cheese and crust. This was my favorite at Shopping Town mall when I was a kid and it was just as good as i remembered when I when back 15 years later. Skip OIP or any other chain and order your pizza from Pavones. Pavones is really the only place to get a decent pizza in syracuse. They will deliver by foot if you live close enough to the downtown location, or by car if you are farther. They have a thick and a thin pizza. If you just order a pizza you will get the thin one, what they call the napolitano, a thin, NY style pizza. After living in syracuse for a few years I was initially disappointed by the otherwise lack of decent pizza selection in town. Now that I discovered pavones it is the only place I will go for a takeout or delivery pizza in Syracuse. read more

Growing up in Syracuse, I used to have this pizza fairly often, usually one cheese slice and one pepperoni slice -- the best clue for a good pizza is the plain cheese slice. Now having moved out west, I miss having some good pizza around, this is one of my favorites and I try to have some every time I go back.
