You can tell that everyone who works here loves dogs almost as much as I love my dog. My pup and I regularly come here on our way back from a visit to the Mary Bartleme dog park right across the street. They have a great selection of dog apparel (bandanas, outfits, weather-appropriate jackets, and booties), toys, bath/spa items, health supplements, food, and really anything and everything your dog could ever need. My dog loves coming here to go shopping and he always likes to make a trip to the grass patch in the back of the store. We also usually do a little "sniff-ari" across all the different bone selections available. It's like a candy store for dogs - you can pick as many or as few different varieties of bones and put them in your shopping bag. Even better than all this: the bakery section. They always have a bakery case loaded with seasonally appropriate baked goods for your dogs. If you want to bake a birthday cake for your dog instead, they also have box cake mixes for dogs. Bottom line: They have a great selection for all your pup's need at very reasonable prices for the high quality. If you have a dog in your life, bring them here for a special treat. read more

Paw Naturals is a great little neighborhood shop. Located across from a huge dog park, it makes it very easy to pop in after a fun day with your furry friend. The guy who assisted me was super nice. I wasn't sure what I needed and he could not have been more helpful. I felt very cared for. The store is small but is packed full of everything. I am always able to find what I need. They have a great variety of food, treats, toys, bedding, accessories. Ahh the list goes on and on. As I finished checking out the guy who was helping me offered a little parting treat for my baby. This is a lovely shop that sells things of high quality and that are of good value. Shopping here was a pleasure because the products are displayed in a manner that is both neat and easy to see. I recommend it. I saw how they had such a large range of dog clothes, including booties, bandanas, outfits, and many other items of clothing. Additionally, they carry health supplements, such as vitamins, that I super need for my babies. I also enjoy purchasing toys and food for them, despite the fact that it will drain my bank account. I spent a lot of money and my bank account was depleted, but I think it's okay because my babies would be pleased with the goods I purchased. In addition, I have absolutely no complaints about any of the employees here; they were all extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. This is a highly recommended shop! read more

I understand there is an inclement storm coming but the place was shut down in our face 2hrs and 25 min before closing time. Dogs have no food tonight and we've literally never had a tornado in Chicago. Not even a "hey, can you be in and out in 1min because we are shutting down early." I personally had an awesome experience here I purchased some fur detangler spray for my 2 teacup Yorkies and it worked like a charm and smelled amazing - the treats are all natural & organic(which I love). They went crazy for the treats & love when mama comes home with the little brown bag. I'm all about supporting local businesses but this pet store is absolutely overpriced. Nobody greeted me, offered help, or asked me if I was looking for something in specific. I'm not a picky customer, so not a big deal here. I was not motivated by their prices, but still wanted to buy something small, because why not? I spent some time trying to find something affordable, then I found this bag of treats. Price was already high for 4 mini treats - then as I was about to pay, the total was 2x higher than the price tag placed in the product bag. I asked for clarification and their response was "oh, the price was printed incorrectly". Like what? That was very misleading and they didn't respect the price that was placed in the product. From puppy ice cream to fancy dog donuts to cat treats, I've found some unique treats that my dogs have fallen in love with. Along with a wide variety of dog and cat chow , treats & toys one an also find regular, everyday pet-care necessities from the likes of detangling spray to paw protectors and water and food bowls. I can't speak highly enough of Paw Naturals. My pup had been on a prescription dog food for 6-7 years due to food allergies. We've tried many non-prescription dog foods that were hypo-allergenic or grain free or some weird protein like Kangaroo; he had allergies to every prepared food and homemade food we tried. We've been to many vets, specialists, etc without success. One day, shortly after moving to Chicago, we stumbled upon this amazing place! Forgive me as I forgot her name, but the woman working that day suggested Zignature dog food. As you can imagine, I was skeptical (to the degree where I was hesitant on trying it). Her advice changed everything for my dog (and for me too!). My pup has been on this food for the last ~8 months and is healthier than ever and has absolutely no issues. Wanting only the best for my feline babies I have been known to search Chicago-land for the best natural food boutiques that cater to the needs of cats as well as dogs. Paws Naturals carries the brands my cats prefer (Acana, BFF, Weruva, Instinct) and they have a loyalty program (spend $250 in store, get $10 off your next purchase) that is applicable to food (yay for that). The service is really hit or miss depending on who is there and the type of mood they are in, but everyone is allowed an off day every now and again, and these people know about pet nutrition. The store is clean and well organized, to enhance your shopping trip they provide actual CARTS- no more trying to juggle a 30lbs bag of food and a tiny basket full of cans. Truly, the thing I like least about Paws Naturals are the prices, for example their BFF is 35cents higher than other similar establishments. I much prefer to get my cans of wet food at Krisers, especially since Krisers now has mix/match 10% case discounts. However the rewards program and large stock of Acana and Instinct (dry) warrants a trip to Paws Naturals every couple of weeks. Let me start by saying that when it comes to pet needs, I would much rather support local small businesses than the big box stores. In general they're a bit more expensive, but they're usually a heck of a lot more knowledgeable about the products that they carry. Unfortunately, I didn't find this to be the case at Paw Naturals. The first time I came here was about 3 months ago. I own my own pet sitting company, and was having a really hard time with a new cat. My client just moved here from New York and never really needed a cat sitter before. A new environment and all new experiences being thrown at this cat all at once. She was having a difficult time adjusting and trusting me. I asked the clerk (I believe she was the owner too) if she knew of any toys that work best for shy cats. I told her that I needed something that would make this cat love me! To my surprise, she looked straight at me and said, "why would you want a cat to like you?" Needless to say, I was very put off! I chalked it up as possibly a joke and figured that was just her personality, so I continued to shop and figure it out for myself. This morning I had a visit with the same cat - who now LOVES me! But today we had another problem-static! She was so staticky that she was legitimately scared of me because every time I touched her I shocked her. Since I was in the area for something else, I decided to give Paw Naturals another shot. The clerk asked me if I needed anything so I told him my problem. I understand that a staticky cat is not an everyday issue, but I also know that I am not the only one with that problem. I found a conditioning spray and asked if he thought it would do the trick. He wasn't sure so he went and asked the woman who I had talked to 3 months prior. She didn't seem to think it would help, but certainly didn't point me in another direction. She proceeded to tell me to rub a dryer sheet on the cat, as that's what she does with her dog. I wouldn't even rub a dryer sheet on MY OWN skin, let alone a pet! Cats lick themselves clean, and would be ingesting all of those chemicals. One allergic reaction, accidental ingestion, bout of kidney failure or any other number of possibilities, and I can see the vet bills and the lawsuit now! I know in my heart that this woman didn't mean harm by her suggestion but as a pet store owner that supposedly carries natural, pet-safe products, I feel like she should absolutely know better! read more

I used to enjoy stopping in occasionally to buy our doggies treats and browse through collars. However I am boycotting. Unfortunately, some girl with bad hair behind the counter spoke poorly of me directly to my husband! Apparently she was put off by West Loopers constantly stopping in wearing Lulu pants and with their 'designer' dogs? Whatever. Pretty poor behavior if you ask me. Feel bad that I waited this long to switch my pups to better quality food. I used to be a Petco/Petsmart shopper, till I moved into the area and walked into this place. I was able to find the perfect food/snacks for my little dogs and I know exactly what they are eating. The shop offers doggie training classes as well. I am not going to be going back, I am sad to say it. I am a charge account holder, have been going for years...Its on the park, its right where I live, its perfect, but not. The often times overly premium prices frustrate me, but proximity is king. When you need something for the pup last thing, or at the park, this place has location-gold. But, if you go a few blocks away and get the SAME EXACT brand for bags, treats, and food, you can pay less. But really, I just had a terrible experience with one of the girls who works there. I found her behavior and commentary about clientele offensive. I purchased goods, walked out frustrated. Based on principle, I went back and returned my beef-bone 2-pack and went to Wiggleyville. Where the price was better, and the staff was incredibly helpful and kind to all of the west loop-ers in there. This is a response to the comment from Jami at Paw Naturals. This particular cat was already on a K/D canned diet for quite some time and had adjusted well to the lowered protein diet. She needed a similar diet which my uncle asked your sales person for. Yes, obviously while dealing with a kidney issue canned/wet food is ideal. The more moisture the better. This actually applies to all cats. More wet food is better. Yes cats are obligate carnivores, but in the case of kidney disease the ability for the kidneys to properly filter proteins has been compromised. Therefore you REDUCE the percentage of PROTEIN. The comment about acidosis is pretty much irrelevant because the study was done on rats and humans. Rats and humans are not obligate carnivores and are omnivorous. Even your study says "It is not yet certain whether acidosis also affects cats in this way." Bottom line: your comment is nonsensical. read more

This place is amazing. It is the reason the my dog, who i LOVE so very much is healthy and every day gets millions of compliments on his coat. I never realized how important the type of food you feed your dog is crucial until I came to Paw Naturals and met Jami. I just was walking through and asked why is this food so great and how will it change my dogs life. She explained it to me and now I wish everyone would educate themselves on how important the dog's food is. My moms dogs have had allergies and I bought him the chinese powder she carries and mix it with his food. I dont see this little guy itching anymore. He is much happier. The type of dog food you feed your dog can prevent your dog from getting all these crazy allergies. I have changed my entire family over to natural dog food because of what Jami taught me. I LOVE how at Paw Naturals they make sure to read the ingredients of each label. It truly shows how she cares about what she is putting on her shelves. My dog knows when I walk in the house with a brown paper bag it is for him. His tail starts wagging and he makes me so happy. This place is always clean. This is a great little neighborhood dog shop. They have tons of great food, treats, and toys for pups. They also have samples out and in the summer they prop the door open with fresh water for Fido and host Yappy Hours on Wednesdays. They stock tons of birthday treats, small treat sizes, and bully sticks/chews galore. It's also a great place to stop if you're in the market for a new kibble as they have manufacturer samples for free. Thy have the best location too! I am absolutely disgusted and horrified of this place. My poodle turned one year old and we decided to buy some nice treats for her. The cashier had no idea how to run the card scanner and made us sign up an account in order to proceed or else we weren't able to check out. Extremely bizarre. Paw Naturals has friendly staff and a good selection of quality pet food. It isn't easy to find Innova cat food, so we used to drive from the West Loop to Kriser's at the corner of State and 11th. We're glad to discover Paw Naturals, which is much closer and has better prices. A 6.6 pound bag of Innova cat food is about $2 cheaper at Paw Naturals, and each pouch of Wellness wet food is about $0.30 cheaper. It may not sound like much, but that adds up. My only complaint is that they have a narrow litter selection. read more

My dog will stop on the corner wanting to go in to Paw Naturals whenever we pass the store. They have a great selection of dog treats etc. They are a little pricey although they do price match other stores which is great. Why 3 stars? I went in one night and the store clerk obviously did not know what the heck she was talking about. She was telling a customer in front of me who had a golden retriever pup how he should supplement additional calcium in his dog's diet. "Because like large dogs need like extra calcium so they can grow." NO not true!! Larger breed dogs actually need less calcium so they don't grow too fast and develop bone disease like Panoesteitis! My turn in line, I ask about an alternative to the premium kibble I currently feed my dog. I mention that my dog doesn't like it so much. The clerk asks if my dog likes fish. I say maybe not because the kibble I feed him has fish as an ingredient. She disagrees and says that the food I'm feeding him only has meat, no seafood. Um, wrong again! I can smell the fish in his food; salmon in addition to another fish is clearly listed in the ingredients. 3 stars, this place is A-OK. A bit pricey but it's a great place to treat your dog to something special. They have a great selection of doggy chews as well as dry and refrigerated / raw foods, but don't expect great advice. read more

I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Paw Naturals sooner, as I have been a longtime customer since Jaime had been running it out of her home and I had to order online :) I was so happy to find that it opened in my neighborhood...a few blocks away from where I live and kitty-corner to the new West Loop dog park. Perfect! I have two dogs. Grover has severe food allergies and the only food that seems to work is Natures Variety Raw Bison mixed with Honest Kitchen Preference. I have tried everything....from chicken to fish (white fish and salmon) to beef to turkey....all at least 3 months of a trial...and nothing has helped Grover w/ his extreme allergies (licking his paws raw, chronic ear infections, and stinky skin). Jaime and the staff at Paw Naturals are not just friendly, but most importantly they are educated about holistic and natural pet care. It has been 5 months since having Grover (and Telly) on a bison only diet and his allergies have diminished significantly. I recommend Paw Naturals to all of my friends...whether it be in rescue (which I am avidly involved in) or condo neighbors....I tell them all to check out the store. Still settling into the Chicago area, we need a new place that carries our doggie's allergy-sensitive food: California Naturals. Agway on the East Coast is a bulk food carrier, so apparently their prices are automatically lower. When we walked into Paw Naturals, the cost for a 15lb bag matched what we were paying for the 30lb in CT. We were honest with the staff member, who turned out to be the store manager, and she explained current pricing thresholds of California Naturals, their pricing system, and ways for us to save. We chatted for a while about dog allergies, available options, and the store itself. The store is incredibly clean and organized, with many unique options, including baked doggie goods and Cubs accessories, and frozen fresh meat dog food. It's all in the details: - Frequent buyer program (for a small store this is pretty sweet). - They were out of our 30lb bag: we pre-ordered it for pick-up within the week - We were given lots of doggie treat samples, to see what our pup would go for. - We received a discount on our first order and another discount coupon for our next order. - Word on the street is, there are many sales on our food and other foods. I love this place! Since moving to the city, this has been mine (and my pups) favorite store for his food and treats! I am very picky with what I feed my dog, and they have been excellent! They are so friendly and have so much product knowledge! They also have deer antlers, which my dog loves! I got him a huge one for Christmas, and there's still a bit left (he goes through toys like crazy!). They are truly a great store and I can be a little harsh with my ratings, but they are incredible. I love going to Paw Naturals and so do my pups. I recently adopted a long haired Chihuahua who was rescued from a Puppy Mill. Her coat looked awful and she had really flaky skin. I can not say enough good things about Paw Naturals. I have a Bichon mix that has had plenty of health problems. When she was a little over a year old she had developed sever allergies, I spent hundred of dollars on vet bills giving her allergy shot and other treatments but it still didn't work. Once I went to Paw Naturals I was able to discuss her issues with their staff and pointed me to the right food for her. That helped over 90% with her allergies! Since then she has had 3 other medical problems where I have been able to turn to Paw Naturals and ask if there was a natural and effective alternative, If they don't know the answer, they research it for you and get back to you via email or by phone. Amanda did a great job explaining the various types of foods & made great recommendations on all natural dog treats which my dog can't get enough of! Excellent selection of top choice kibble, treats, and accessories. Easily my favorite pet shop in the area. I agree that the prices aren't the cheapest, but considering the location and the nearby dog park, cant beat the selection and late daily hours till eight.
