I got my cat the Hunt and Snack Mat which is an interactive eating game/toy which he LOVES-it is the shape of a fish with different obstacles for him to slide his food or snacks-since he likes using his paws a lot-it has been a huge bundle of FUN for him! I'm really bummed out. I love Bentleys but today I went to go take my dog in to pick out a birthday treat. We went 45 minutes before the store closed and the employees had already locked the doors and were just sitting inside. They looked at us and still refused to let us in even though the sign on the door clearly says open until 7. Dear Lisa, Hello! This email serves to present my recommendation for your employee J.R. to be the new store manager of Southport. I am a longtime customer of your grand operations, first beginning with the LaSalle location, now shopping between Desplaines and Wells. THE REASON for my allegiance to Bentley's is J.R. I know not his last name, but I know a beautiful human and employee when I see one. And J.R. is la crème de la crème! He represents Bentley's as though he is the owner. I watch the manner in which he interacts with customers, with dogs, and with fellow employees. He is phenomenal. It all began almost four years ago when my dear dog Gwendolyn needed four 32-ounce goat milks weekly to comply with her holistic health plan to manage cancer. J.R. worked above and beyond to ensure fulfillment of my orders. And my little Gwendolyn loved to scream at him for treats, interrupting other customers to do so; and J.R. handled this very demanding little dog with sophistication and love, all whilst properly tending to the customers who were first in queue! I had not seen J.R. in quite some time (so happy that Chetara came into our lives during J.R.'s work at your other stores). And then one day recently, it was like magic! He had returned and remembered everything about my Gwendolyn. Sadly she had gone to heaven in April, and he replied, "I am so sorry. She was the bossiest dog in River North." Oh! How he made me so happy to reminisce of my girl. And of course, I am now the mother to Gwendolyn's clone. Her name is Claudette, and when J.R. met her last week, he exclaimed, "Woa! Did you hire Dr. Frankenstein to make this happen?" It was hysterical. Attached is a picture from last night, of J.R. treating my Claudette. I understand that he applied for the managerial position at Southport, and the decision has yet to be made. In my opinion, there is no decision but yes. He is the best fit for the job. They did not have the particular brand I was looking for but they were patient helping my pup try out the harness they thought might work. Super friendly and nice associates! They have a wonderful selection of food- and carry hard to find brands like Weruva! (It's like human grade consumption-hormone free-chicken/grass fed kobe beef-types of dog food.) Weruva is pricier than online but not that ridiculous. These girls are everything you need for you dog! We adopted a dog 6 months ago and it's been a challenging transition, but at Bentley's pet stuff they have been incredibly helpful with food and training recommendations. Most recently, my dog ate something from the street and I was super scared that he was going to get sick or even worse... I went to the store and told Danae what happened and literally the best! She calmed me down, explained that dogs are normally resilient and gave me great tips for how to handle the situation. Truly amazing service!! read more

This cute little pet shop is my FAVORITE of all the Bentley's pet stuff not only because of the convenient location but because the staff members here are extremely friendly and eager to help. Marty always remembers my name and she is a very good conversationalist who makes my visits here a real treat. Last month this location had customer appreciation week so there were goody grab bags for cats and dogs and FREE 2lb bags of ORIJEN brand dog food for all the customers to help themselves to. My cat's favorite wet foods were also half off and both my pets are large giant breeds so all these savings and free samples truly helped me keep my two pets happy and well fed. Every time I come to this location there are either treats on sale and or plenty of high grade samples available to take home to my pets. Marty has a very helpful, upbeat attitude and all the staff here seems to genuinely enjoy greeting everyone's pets as they come through the door. There are many items here that my Schaumburg location doesn't carry so I'm so happy that this particular location is so well stocked with my cat's most favorite brands. This store is cleanly, cheerful and threw the best customer appreciation party of all the locations I've visited. Old town just has that super friendly neighborhood vibe I crave and I try and find excuses to visit this particular Bentley's often. If you love top quality organic pet food and creative treats and toys for your beloved fur babies you will definitely value Bentley's pet stuff! This particular location in Old town will always be my favorite and the neighborhood vibe here is cozy and inviting. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with this place. Probably the best place to get toys for your dog, but I had a bad experience one time that makes me very wary of buying anything here. Look I know that smaller stores probably need to price things a bit higher, but I would expect friendly customer service to go along with it. I bought a harness for our dog, and it didn't fit right when I took it home. Within 20 minutes of buying it, I took it back and the owner said he normally doesn't take returns because I had initially tried it on in the store as well. Well thats true. I did put it on the store and I thought it fit. But look I took it home, tried to walk the dog about 4 steps and it wasn't working right. You can't tell how its going to work in the "real world" in your store. the bigger stores, Petco and Petsmart, would return it in a heartbeat. I know its tougher for smaller stores, but being rude about returns on a $10 harness is a good way to lose a customer. To his "credit," the owner did return the harness but he made me feel about it. not a good way to convince me to shop with you. read more

Pet Stuff. Not the most creative name for a pet store I've ever seen, but it's probably just right for this tiny little place because the store felt completely BS-free on my visit tonight. Straight forward, no frills, no fluff pet stuff for Chicago pooches, and that's it! They carry the coats, hoodies, and sweaters, poo bags, beds, toys, treats and food that people actually buy. It's very efficient and basic-needs focused. No overly expensive brand-name sweaters, no bejeweling, no unhealthy foods, just quality at reasonable prices. The staff was nice and they say they deliver. Perfectly useful pet store in the Chicago near north area. Only three stars because I do enjoy a slightly larger selection in a bit more stylized place. Great little pet store that always has everything I could need. They sell the healthier pet food options and you won't find the generic name brands here. I personally buy Fromm for my dog and love it! They have a rewards program and you get $20 for every $200 you spend. They also have free delivery for purchases over $20, which is nice for big bags of food. They majority of the store is geared for dogs/ dog owners, followed by cat supplies. read more

Although she's small, Greta the dachshund can tear a toy apart in a day. I actually have this theory that toys just disintegrate in her presence. Anyway, I went into Pet Stuff for some more utilitarian items and decided to check out their toys as long as I was there. They didn't have a great selection of heavy duty toys, although they do have the usual ropes and kongs. The staff member was really helpful and friendly. Everyone that works here is very knowledgeable and makes great recommendations on food, treats, toys, etc. Their frozen bones are my dog's absolutely favorite. It's pretty pricey, but it's conveniently located for me, which is why I go as much as I do. You're definitely paying for service and individual attention, but if you have the money to spend, this place is great. Pet stuff is great for the convenience factor. I live 1 block from this place so its great when I am walking my dog to stop in there. I never buy anything but small toys, treats and bones for my dog though. The place is just too pricey and since I am not into that organic dog food thing I just go for the small stuff to keep my dog happy. They have a great selection of meaty dog bones that he goes crazy for. Plus I love places that let me walk in with my gigantic 150lb dog and let him pick out some treats to bring home. read more

Great prices, Great location! I work right across the street, and love the fact that I can stop here and grab whatever I need. I saw these collars I absolutely adored (red w/ houndstooth ribbon) and I never looked at the price thinking they were too expensive. When I finally figured I would splurge on my kitties, they were $8.00! But they looked so expensive - I bought a bunch of different colors! I strongly recommend their cat-nip toys and their prices on Nature's Miracle. The only thing that startled me is that not a single dog toy there was squeak-less. We have an office dog who shredded her monkey. I ran across the street to get her another stuffed animal, and they all had some sort of obnoxious noise - not suitable for an office. I bought another monkey and had to punction the squeaker so it didn't make noise. BUT - This one has held up for almost a year now! read more

Just located to Lakeview with my golden retriever and Bentley's is near-by so thought I would go in. There was one in my prior area which closed. Disappointed that the person behind the counter wasn't very friendly and my dog didn't even get a treat from her from behind the counter. Selection is good for treats but customer service could use some improvement. She didn't even emerge from behind the counter to suggest any good treats. Will probably be back since it is close-by but, again, customer service was lousy. My experience in dog boutiques is an outgoing and enthusiastic employee who loves interacting with the dogs. read more

For being so small, this place somehow always has what we need! The staff is very well informed and it is such a nice change from the huge chain stores that we used to shop at. The hours are great and so is the location. We have a very large and clumsy dog, but the staff is kind when we come in with him. He loves going into places and we always pick up the things that he knocks down with his tail, so I hate leaving him home when we stop by the store. They never make us feel bad for bringing our clutz in and always have a treat for him. read more

So we have been going here for a few months now to purchase our "hard to find" dog food for our persnickety Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. We have been afraid to even change "Bowie"s food for fear it may upset her or her stomach! and with Pet Stuff being right down the street from us you can imagine we were jumping for joy that we didn't need to drive to the ends of the earth to locate her special food. So they are very accommodating, we give them a call when we are running low, they place a special order for it and call us in about a week when it's in to pick it up. Very simple. They also have a key fob punch card, so you are rewarded when you spend so much $$$ - pay backs in the end--gotta love that! And if you ask for something and they happen to not have it in stock or are out of it, they offer to order it for you. Everyone in the store is very helpful and friendly. I knocked one star off for some of the prices. Some are reasonable and some are a bit high. Common brands like IAMS are cheaper at local grocery stores. Stop by this place for the specialty brands. They also have a selection of holistic and organic products. YAY! all in all - a happy pet owner shops here! read more

I love this place! I picked up some basic supplies here for a new pup, including food bowls and a matching collar/leash from their huge selection (so many cute designs, it was hard to choose). Everything is very affordable. The only thing they couldn't do for me was engrave a name tag, but the cashier said that they'll do it at their other store at 509 N LaSalle. I walked in here on an impulse yesterday. They carry a really good selection of high quality food for pets, and the prices are not outrageous. So, a boutique quality pet store with mass merchandiser-like pricing, plus a really friendly staff. They had a lot of really cute collars on their sale rack that were too big for my dog, but I still found a leather collar in their regular racks for only $6.99. They also carry a product called Comfort Zone which is calming spray for dogs. It seem to work pretty well, not after the first application, but after about a day of use. If Pet Stuff opened a location close to me (near UIC), I would be a frequent customer. read more
