I would like to leave 0 stars! I typically only leave reviews when something is exceptional. Well, this grooming experience was exceptionally awful. My Australian shepherd has long beautiful hair. He had a few mats under his neck from his collar and I said it was ok to shave off if unable to brush. But I specifically said, do not shave his fur! It's his air conditioning and we are heading into summer, I picked him up and the guy had shaved his entire body to 1/2 inches!!! Here is before and after. I am crying. I still paid but I'm so upset! I know it will grow back but damn! It's like he decided to shave him because it was easier than brushing. Which is what I needed help with. Never never NEVER again!!! DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE FOR GROOMING! Avoid the grooming salon at all costs! We brought our German Shepherd here for grooming, including a brushing. We should have expected a horrible experience when our dog could not wait to get out there upon pickup! Over the next couple of days, we found several red marks on her body under her fur, clearly a sign of overly rough brushing and grooming. It took weeks for the marks to heal completely. We called the store and spoke to the manager about the store taking responsibility and paying for her vet bills. We were asked for her medical records following her vet visit. At first, the manager told us that her medical records show a history of allergies, which could cause the red marks. This was a ridiculous assumption, as she's never had red marks due to her allergies! She had been groomed several times before without issue! After some back and forth, we were told that they would need to talk to their corporate office to determine liability. I kept calling for an answer after not hearing back, but never heard back. More than anything else, we were stunned by the gross incompetence shown by the groomers that they would brush her hard enough to give her red marks! Do not give Petsmart (especially its grooming salon) your business when there are so many amazing groomers throughout the city. read more

Took my lab for a quick wash, has super thick hair and Meg who bathed her took 20 minutes to wash her and completely dried her VERY thick hair. I honestly believe she only used the perfume spray they use to make them smell good. Petsmart is famous for these things. I will never take my dogs there again. read more

We still go here every month or two for the Pawdicure Plus (nail trim & grind, ear and teeth cleaning. Joel is great - calm, kind, and friendly. It's nice that you can just walk in and get it all done within 10-15 min. read more

After taking my dog to the vet today they recommended me to grab a specific type of flea and tick preventative for my dog. After a quick google search this Pet Smart location advertise they can have it ready in 2 hours, I live close so I figured I'd just walk over instead of placing the order online. When I got in the store I asked the cashier which aisle I could find the product in he told me and after walking the aisle and almost every other aisle I wasn't able to find the product. I walked to another employee and asked for help and he checked one place and apologized to me and said they must not have it in stock. After driving and checking 3 other petsmarts I had the bright idea to place the order for in-store pick up and they filled it... I brought my dog Snowy for a grooming appointment. I have never used PetSmart and my Groomer of four years is out of town. It was easy to book online and I was pleasantly surprised. They had a huge parking lot easy to park. The check-in process was pretty efficient. Noah was the groomer. He was very sweet someone I can tell really really loves dogs. You can tell when someone genuinely does this because they love dogs, the whole thing took about three hours and for $41. I'm completely happy. I will be using this place again. read more

The absolute worst grooming experience EVER. I took my maltipoo Teddy in for a bath and cut at 3:00 p.m. At 7:00 Doris called to tell me Teddy was too wiggly and she only had a chance to take off a little hair, and that I needed to come pick him up. I told Doris he was accustomed to going to the groomer and we'd never had a problem before. She said she would try to give him a bath. What??? I dropped him off at 3 pm and at 7 pm he wasnt bathed!! I told her to bathe him at just cut the hair around his butt, and I'd pick him up. She called at 8 and said she had a hard time, and since she couldn't finish I wouldn't have to pay. When I picked him up I almost cried! I couldn't believe it was the same dog!!! It's like she closed her eye's and groomed him with a machete! Like, this is the worst haircut I've ever seen! The pictures that are attached don't capture how hideous he looks! On top of that he was even more mated under his neck, which made him uncomfortable. This should be a damn crime! Petsmart is a national organization that prides themselves on offering the best service for our animals. Yet, they hired someone who is not a professional groomer and takes NO care for the members of our family. My understanding is that Doris, frequently treates pets in this manner. When i called the manager Nayha, she apologized profusely. Although she knew nothing could make this right, she showed genuine concern, even alarm! She offered a free groom with one of their best groomers. I just can't get over how incredibly awful this experience has been. read more

It's proper etiquette to offer something for the House Guest. In Spring 2016, an Adult Bird dropped by 2x that gave me The Look! Are Chicago Birds excellent hustlers by making you feel guilty? Fast Forward to Spring 2019. I first noticed skinny, young, teen Orange by peaking his head while standing then hopping from left to right towards the tucked Seed Feeder (to avoid strong & high wind damage). I'm glad that Orange kept the Food Stash to itself as too many distant relatives may put me in trouble with Building Association. PetSmart's $8 GREAT CHOICE 10 LB SEED MIX is a better value than Amazon's HARTZ BONANZA HEALTH & VITALITY BLEND. For Orange's impeccable manners (greets every time he/she drops by), I got a $5 YO DIPS (papaya & mango yogurt bits) that doesn't look like it's a hit. I don't mind a low-maintenance humble guest. Next time, I shall give Orange it's own mini sweeper & trash bin so they can clean their own seed mess. I hope Orange finds an excellent companion. Orange has put the ledge to it's maximum use by sunbathing, and checking out the view. I barely go out just like Richard Gere in Pretty Woman. It's even a miracle that I now see the sunset. NOTE TO PETSMART: DO NOT cancel a pickup order that is already paid for. Bad Business. A reminder email or text would be nice instead of absolutes. The manager, Hope, displayed extreme rudeness. When I requested to use the January $5 coupons for grooming/nail services for my two dogs, she responded with a threat. She said, "I can apply it for you this time, but I'll ensure you won't be able to apply any discounts in the future because you've asked for discounts every single time, 5 times in a row." It's concerning that a store manager would threaten a customer like this. I visit for grooming every other month, and naturally, when there's a store promo, I'd like to take advantage of it. It's not like I'm asking for something special, and often, the store staff proactively apply the available coupons without me asking. Hope's behavior was exceptionally rude. When I addressed her bad attitude, she even threatened to put me on a block list, preventing me from returning. Have been taking our cocker spaniel Norton to the Kingsbury location for years and almost always the staff has demonstrated, in just about every single visit, the highest standards of professionalism. Our dog comes out of the sessions looking exactly how we like him to, his temperament is great and the staff closes the transaction smoothly and elegantly. Let me start by saying, I should have noticed the red flags when the woman ahead of me was rushing in to pick up her dog from the grooming salon... they called her to come get her dog because "he wasn't wanting to deal with them"... then, I watched the woman walk a sweet dog out of the salon totally calm and docile. I also watched another customer hesitant to leave her puppy with the groomer as she spent an enormous amount of time trying to explain the services she wanted and how to tend to her dog. After her, I dropped off my cat to be groomed. I explained that he was old and it was his first time being groomed. I had not even left the store (5 minutes maybe) and the groomer was calling me to pick him up because he was not "being nice". I returned to the salon to have the groomer tell me that she took the cat out of the crate and he hissed at her. She then proceeded to turn the crate upside down, trying to dump the cat out and show me how he hissed at her... well I would have hissed at her too! There is no way she took the time to get to know my cat, rub him and help him feel at ease, not in the 5 minutes she was with him! She had no pet groomer "bedside manner" and really did not care about even trying to soothe my cat. After less than 8 minutes in the store, She just handed the crate back to me and told me she was going to cancel my appointment! There are not a lot of cat groomers at petsmart and they are trained as specialists, which means she should have known how to handle my 16 year old cat!! What cat likes to be washed and given a haircut? Not many, which is why there are special groomers trained to do so. Precede with caution. From what I witnessed and experienced today, this grooming salon lacked the patience, kindness and gentle hand that should be expected when you are dropping off your beloved pets! read more

I love this Petsmart! Granted, my wallet doesn't for spending all my money here, but my puppy is happy and that's all that matters. We started puppy training class here with Natalie. She's great and makes an effort to work with each puppy and give tips that are specific to my puppy's behavior and personality. I love when I run into her when I'm at Petsmart outside of puppy class because she will greet Millie and review tricks! I just came here for grooming yesterday. Millie is pretty low maintenance right now besides her barking throughout her bath. Samantha still put on a smiling face despite how loud Millie was. Millie is super soft and smells awesome. I love this store! They came by New City August 25th and threw a pet party for us. Everyone loved it! That's when I met Natalie and a few other staff members- they were so friendly, I started to bring my new puppy to them. Everyone in the store is always helpful. They helped me find the right stuff for my puppy and spent a lot of time to help make sure I had everything I needed. My dog goes to training classes with Natalie, she's super friendly and knows her stuff. She gets back to me quickly whenever I have questions or need help rescheduling a class. He's doing so good! I have also met a few of the managers, Jesus and Jane. Both guys have been so friendly and nice, I had a question on some dog food I saw the night before but then couldn't find. Jesus helped me figure out where it was and Jane helped me later that same day. I also had the salon do his first puppy cut, I think it was kassandra. I've never had a problem getting help when I need it here. The only thing I don't love is sometimes they're having puppy training classes at like, peak shopping hours and it's intrusive to have so many dogs running around when you just need too cat food. DO NOT GO HERE FOR GROOMING!! Brought my yorkie here to get groomed yesterday she came home with her nails bleeding, cut WAY shorter then they should have been. All this after I specifically addressed with the grooming manager that they were long and needed barely any taken off in attempts to not hurt her or have her bleed. On top of this I asked Christian the groomer responsible for her groom and nails if she had any problems or bleeding, for him to lie to my face and reassure me my dog did not when he clearly cut them to short and she began to bleed when we arrived home. There was also a cut on her leg, no where near her nails. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional, these groomers have minimal training after I researched their credentials. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE ! Pay the extra money and go to a private grooming salon, it will be well worth it to not have to deal with the trauma they put these pets through. read more

I took my Black Lab mix to the groomers $25 plus tip. When I tipped the groomer, she said,"You don't have to do that." Unh..... I don't know if it was because she didn't want a $10 tip, because it was too high or too low, or because she wasn't suppose to take a tip either way take it and be quiet. There are far too many people in the service industry being stiffed out of tips and she's turning one down? Anyway, my doggie looked great she loved her little head scarf that they wrapped around her collar. She was walking with such confidence it was so funny. This Petsmart seems so much friendlier than ANY other location I have ever been to. I know that training 101 is to greet customers when they enter a store, but this staff really does give you service with a smile. :) I even got offered help carrying my dog's food to the car. Sure, I can take you to the gun show and kindly declined the offer, but it is the thought that counts! As far as the chain as a whole, this is a very clean location, has well stocked shelves, and has more of a selection than Petco. read more

This store is huge and I've found that this store has items that the other more centrally located stores don't. I assume it's because it's kind of off of the beaten path. I've had nothing but great service here; the staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgable. A bit of a mixed bag here, i've had a few good experiences here and some rather lackluster. I'm inclined to believe most of the staff are well intended but when I brought our (in an instant turned) incredibly sick baby turtle in to have the on-site vet take a look, we were eventually turned away. Few caveats. The turtle in question was bought about Seven months prior in Chinatown, it was probably only a few months old at time of purchase. Chicago law.lol stipulates reptiles under 4 inches in diameter cannot be bought or sold. Ummm, okay, Exhibit A of 1st World problems all the while 5 ppl were shot in the City that day but I digress. So, all the staff hovered around our nearly lifeless looking Shelby when one of them pulls out a biz card and tells us "this vet!" would see her....but at a cost. If you want to train your dog (and yourself) the right way, go to Kim. We got a little mutt from a shelter when he was about four months, so he was just old enough to have developed some really poor habits. Kim was so patient with him and so loving. The tips she gave us were wonderful. Especially when it came to getting him to stop puppy biting everyone! We went through the class, and our pup's behavior has improved DRASTICALLY. Not only that, but we took him in about four months later, and Kim remembered his name! And he sure remembered her. He got so excited he piddled everywhere. read more

I must say, this review is far overdue. My little pooch Nola and I have been coming here religiously for a year and have never had a negative experience. From the grooming salon, to the treat/toy selection to the phenomenal staff, it really doesn't get much better than this location! I do have to give a special little shout out to Arelys- who is the dog whisperer of the the Midwest. Nola is a spunky little firecracker and Arelys trained her like she was no sweat. I did the puppy course and intermediate with Arelys and she just makes such a connection with the dogs, it's amazing. It cracks me up how Nola will try and sniff for Arelys if we go to the store on a non-training day, because she has such a great time with her during the training sessions. We brought Addison to Petsmart for a puppy beginner class starting in January. Tom is a great trainer! In 6 weeks Addison learned loose leash walking, sit, stay, lay down, here, and how to socialize with other dogs. He also helped us with questions on the side, like how to control barking or avoiding jumping to the counters. He also told us to feel free to reach out if anything comes up and we need some guidance. He's a great asset to have!! Also, if you get the puppy book there's a coupon to make the class even cheaper. My review is mainly based on their dog training classes. This store is newer, so everything is very organized, clean, and there's always parking, which is great! We are in our second training class with our puppy, and plan on continuing. Our trainer, Arelys, is amazing! It's almost unbelievable how accomodating she has been with our schedules. She's offered to do classes earlier or later or made up classes on her own time when we were out of town. The classes are VERY reasonably priced, and more than worth it. They even throw fun tricks along with obedience- fun for you and your dog! I have two dogs, the first I self-trained with really no set plan. The difference between the two is remarkable. My puppy is constantly getting compliments and I'm proud of her!
