I'm from the Deep South so I know good catfish. Let me tell you, this is the absolute best catfish I've ever had. Not at all muddy as catfish can tend to be. The catfish Orleans was delicious although a little rich. Everything was seasoned just right and they even had a shaker of the Cajun seasoning on the table if you want more. We had the pleasure of going to Paw Paw's about the third day into our five day visit. It was the only place we came back to in those five days. The food is incredible, the sweet tea is perfect and the staff is super friendly. We felt like we'd know them for years. During our two trips, my wife had the gumbo, jambalaya and shrimp and corn chowder. She loved all three with a preference for the chowder. I had the shrimp PO boy both times. It was SO good! They load it with shrimp! Our boys had the kids shrimp and cheese burger and were satisfied and full each time. They offer a lunch special of half a po boy with soup or gumbo, which I almost ordered... however, my friend and I decided to share the shrimp corn soup and the catfish basket. Oh my gosh! The soup was so delicious!!!! Flavorful, creamy, addictive... with a *very* slight kick. Pawpaws is on a crooked road outside of Pigeon Forge sitting off by itself. Definitely mom and pop operation. OMG the food is wonderful. The owners are from Louisiana and it is some good cabin food. Gumbo is great. Cajun gator tail and the Cajun fish. Takes a little while to get but when it comes to you it is hot and well cooked. Parking can be tight. We ate inside. Some people were eating outside under an umbrella. We way overbought. The quantity of food they served fed 2 adults and we brought back a plate to our teenage son. read more

This is great authentic southern Louisiana cooking. Lived in New Orleans for a few years and trying new restaurants became a hobby. This place is great especially being this far inland. The gulf shrimp were tasty and prepared well. The coleslaw was fresh. Red beans and rice and the bread pudding are authentic and as good as any in and around NOLA. Both gumbos were flavorful but I prefer a darker, thicker rue and more ingredients. Overheard a couple next to me rave about the catfish. I'm not a catfish man so I won't ever know. We wanted try everything and I'm pretty sure we did. We started off with the sample plate that had the alligator bites and boudin balls and the best crab cake I've ever had. Boudin balls are little fried balls with rice and sausage inside, delicious! Try them! I ordered the Catfish Acadiana which was two pieces of catfish next to a bed of penne, and both the catfish and penne was smothered in a cajun creole sauce with pieces of crawfish and a little spinach. It was seriously one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. My boyfriend ordered a po' boy, I didn't try it but I could tell it was delicious by the way he cleaned his plate lol. We ended with their white chocolate bread pudding and oh my goodness!! If you don't go here for anything else, go for the bread pudding! I don't even know if their are words to describe how delicious everything was here. All of the staff was super nice and the owner was even waiting tables and bringing out food. Instead of going to one of the chain restaurants in Pigeon Forge, my wife and I decided to check out this local establishment instead. The look of the restaurant doesn't necessarily scream, "stop inside", but when you get inside, you will experience a friendly diner-style restaurant with good southern food. I'm from up north, so I'm not necessarily an expert here, but one of my old memories was a trip I took with my college buddy to visit his aunt Shelly in Mississippi. We had red beans and rice for dinner. I loved it! I even got the recipe to take home. Well, sorry aunt Shelly, but Pawpaw's red beans and rice was better. So rich and tasty. It was the highlight of the meal. I got the shrimp po boy for my main meal. It was very good and I would order it again. My only complaint was that it had a little too much bread. This sandwich would benefit from Bobby Flay's trick of hollowing out the bun. Wife got the combo catfish and shrimp platter. I'm not a huge catfish fan, but this catfish had a nice clean taste to it. We go several times each year. It is amazing. 2 catfish fillets and you are stuffed. I am very pickey about my catfish and their's is great. Always has a clean fresh taste, not the Lysol taste of franchised chains. The crab cakes are wonderful! Very little binding agent and LOTS of crab. The Po' boy is enough for lunch and dinner. I've also had the étouffée and it was excellent. They have a seafood basket that is a great samplers. The staff is kind and welcoming even in super busy summer afternoons. The owner is a Louisiana native and knows her stuff. It is a must stop. We crave it and will talk about it all week before driving about an hour on the weekend for the most amazing meal of the week and it is well worth it. Do yourself a favor and GO! read more

She was great! Our drinks stayed full and the food was brought out right on time. Speaking of food, I would have snapped a photo BUT I was too hungry and ate it before I even gave it any thought. 3 whole pieces of beautifully breaded and cooked catfish. French fries cooked to crunchy perfection. I did get the coleslaw and I'm a picky one when it comes to it. While I did not like it (needed more seasoning) the other members of our party did. The potato salad was alright (I'm picky with it too). Others in our party were raving about what they received. Shrimp Po-boy, grilled shrimp, red beans and rice, and gumbo. All of it looked great and was gone before I knew it. Bread pudding. This is something I'm not too thrilled about because I'm not a sweets person. Not worth the money, being from the South I got really excited to hear about some local crawfish being in the area. No flavor and overpriced for the amount you get and what you pay for you would be able to book a flight to Louisiana and spend the day. Two stars. Its a nawnaw for me when it comes to pawpaws.
