Amazing original food. They have lunch specials during the week. We had and oyster po'boy, a shrimp po' boy, chicken tenders as main entrees. All were fresh and hand breaded. We also tried shrimp and corn chowder as a side. It was amazing. This is a tasty Cajun place don't sell yourself short that they only serve catfish. Great service , and food. The batter is light...hard to described but not the corn meal I grew up with and neither is it beer batter. It has some corn meal in it but it doesn't weigh the fish down. Nor is it greasy. I don't think you can get any better catfish! We have been several times and the consistency is spot on. Not a bad meal here. The jambalaya has a hint of smoky flavor that put it over the top. It's a must to try if you've never had it. I know, you can get a shrimp platter at any "fish" restaurant. However, these just seem to hit the spot. Ask for more horseradish for your cocktail sauce. Slaw is great and the fries aren't bad. The service has been excellent. It's a small place, so expect a short wait when busy. We will continue to go back. read more

I LOVE deep fried catfish fillets. I can, and have, eaten myself sick on them. Not at this place. We ate there about a year ago. They're quite popular. Usually have a full parking lot. It's difficult to make bad deep fried catfish fillets, but they figured out how to do it at this place. The BBQ wasn't much better. I attribute its popularity to Yankee tourists. It seems so out of place to find a great Cajun restaurant in east Tennessee, but this is one, and it is definitely worth a visit -- or two, or more. The restaurant, complete with a nautical-themed decor, serves delicious Cajun dishes. I'm not Cajun, so I can't really attest to its authenticity, only that I love the jambalaya, beans and rice, and of course, the fried catfish basket. I think they all are comparable to what you would find in New Orleans. As for the catfish, this is not the "muddy" tasting kind. The fillets are thick white planks -- almost like a haddock or cod -- and they are cooked perfectly. The breading is delicious, and the portions are big enough that you could make two meals out of it, for sure. Other pluses: the hushpuppies, coleslaw, fries, and -- oh! I almost forgot! The gumbo is amazing! And if you go -- no, *when* you go, ask for Norma. She's great, funny and very friendly. read more

We went to dinner a bit early, just after 5pm and we were seated immediately by a very sweet waitress. She brought us our drinks almost immediately and took our order. We split the fried catfish basket and boy howdy! It was plenty for two! Three huge filets and a huge number of excellent fries. We only got two hush puppies but they were great. I didn't need any more. We actually got a to go box. I recommend this place if you like fried catfish. read more

But above average if you're in a cabin for the weekend & really hungry, Came to Paw Paw's on a Friday evening after reading reviews & got a to-go dinner order. The restaurant was pretty crowded but the food was prepared quickly. The owners are also very nice!!! * We ordered a catfish & shrimp basket and gumbo. It comes with a side of coleslaw or salad (and we got both). The gumbo was average. It wasn't very flavorful, didn't have any spice, or a kick of anything making me think NOLA. There was also a lot of rice at the bottom of the gumbo. The fried catfish was good! It tasted fresh and was flaky and nicely prepared. The shrimp were meh. They are probably better served hot. The french fries were pretty good and I didn't even touch the hush puppies, coleslaw, or salad. * Pretty good food if you're in the cabins.
