Paxton's charm is it's local feel and atmosphere. I had been here a few years ago coming back from a business trip with my workmate. So when my wife ad I found ourselves in the neighborhood (on the way back from a boutique yarn store Saturday afternoon - her passion), I suggested Paxton's which ended up being a great choice. It had not changed since I was last there, and I'm guessing it hasn't changed much in years it's been open. Located in "old" Loveland, parking and traffic can be a bit much (the Little Miami bike trail passes right by), but it's worth any trouble getting there. Prices are good and there is a lot on the menu. Both of us had wraps, and had to push off dinner that evening because they were so filling. The "better than pub grub" offerings should satisfy just about everyone on your list. The beer selection is also good and features a number of local brews. They also offer patio seating in front of the establishment, along W. Loveland Ave. Have a beer, have a meal, have a great time in a relaxing hometown atmosphere! read more

Not that I've been here dozens of times (maybe not even 1 dozen) but serveral at least. This place is popular. Very popular. But not wrap around the block popular. More like "a staple" popular. The food is consistant along with the service. I'm pretty sure I've never been disapointed in anything I've ordered. If you are a Garden Burger fan I totally recommend. Great vibe and decor. They were doing trivia the night we were there so it was extremely loud and crowded. You already are sitting on top of the table next to you so to have customers constantly getting up and squeezing by you to turn in trivia answers was kind of annoying. The food was okay, I think we could cook better food at home. The potato skins tasted like they were frozen with fresh toppings added on, the fries also tasted frozen and had no seasoning, and my hamburger was a little undercooked for medium and the bun was something store bought and not toasted. All the food just seemed uninspired. The service was excellent though, our waitress was busy but was very attentive. Not sure if we'll be back, but if we are, we'll be sitting outside where it's quieter. read more

After years of riding my bike past this place, I decided to stop in for a bite. Now I know why I never stopped. As expected for a warm day, it was packed. Grabbed a table inside (hoping for a patio table but apparently if you have a small dog, they get preferential seating over a paying customer, as there were at least 2 tables with small dogs in the chairs) & our server promptly greeted us. We went with the wings and the mushroom and swiss burger to share. For as busy as it was, the food came out pretty quick. The burger was surprisingly...small. Almost like a slider on a regular bun. The wings were a little skimpy on size but the flavor and crisp texture made up for it. All in all, I wasn't impressed but the fantastic service made up for it. Good location. Right around the Loveland area, just off the trail. So, it's a nice place to come to get a cold beer after a long bike or run. They seem to have a good beer selection. Plenty of beer on draft, although some standard beers like Stella aren't. The interior is a bit dark and dull for me. The service was friendly. The food is typical bar food. This is not a place to go if you're interested in fine dining or even finding the best hamburger, but it seems to do what it does pretty well. read more

So nice! We came in on the afternoon of Christmas Eve and were seated with no issues but the place was quickly packed. Tables turns were very efficient and everyone left happy. Love this place! It is a bit small inside but I like that it felt cozy. Our server was very fast and friendly, even though the place was so busy for lunch time! I had the taco salad and it was very good. There was nothing super special about it but I still thought it was tasty. An excellent place to relax and have some pub grub. Drinks are reasonably priced and well made. A good selection of beers. The staff is wonderful, they make you feel welcome and important. They have been there for years. The food is always good, pub style burgers and sandwiches, with a few upgraded dishes as well. My friend and I went kayaking in Loveland and then walked over to the town for lunch. The Kayak rental recommended Paxton's Grill. It's a small place with indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant next door has a fancier veneer but the menu at Paxton's has a wider selection. We're both picky so it it makes it easier. We both had panini sandwiches. They were excellent even though we both asked for things to be withheld. Bread was crisp yet chewy. Meat, cheese were hearty. The portion size on the fries was a little small but the sandwich was big enough that it didn't matter. It was an excellent meal and worth the $14 bucks for the drink/sandwich/fries. read more

Let me start out my saying the food and service was just so-so, but the location and general atmosphere was pretty good. I found this on Yelp and my wife and I took a ride there for breakfast. I had the German omelet (goetta), and she had the Meat-Lover's omelet. Neither were spectacular...not bad by any means, but nothing special. I was a bit surprised by the service, however. There were only 7 other tables with customers; so it wasn't all that busy. But it took what I think was an unreasonable amount of time to take and fulfill our order, and they committed a major offense -- my coffee cup was empty a lot! Purchased in 2000, Paxton's Grill is a great restaurant named after the area's first settler, Colonel Thomas Paxton (1795). The restaurant, right near the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail, is in one of Loveland's oldest buildings in the Historic Loveland District. My most recent trip on Saturday was maybe my third time eating at Paxton's, and I continue to enjoy going there, especially during the summer when all the bike riders are out on the bike trail. My friend ordered the Vegetable Pita Pocket for $7.50 (stuffed with Spring Mix with fajita ranch dressing, diced cucumbers, alfalfa sprouts, sliced mushrooms, hummus, melted Colby Jack Cheese, and salsa.), which he said was very good. Meanwhile, I kept it simple with a Cheeseburger (1/4 pound on Kaiser bun, comes plain, $.25 for cheese). Both items came with potato chips, but I substituted waffle fries for an additional $2.25. (Onion rings are also $2.25, while French Fries are $1.50). Five of the six people seated below us--we were at one of those high tables--subbed waffle fries too, so I'm not the only who'd recommend them. Other items on the menu are a couple soups and chili, salads (eight entrée salads mostly $9.50, two sides for $3.75 and $4), wraps (a lady next to us had one and it looked very good), sandwiches (including The Perfect Club, supposedly "Cincinnati's Best"), other burgers, some paninis, and appetizers called "Spare Tires." Paxton's, which has a bar, also of course has beers on the menu, while there is also a good selection for kids. We were seated right away, but despite the restaurant not being too packed, the wait service was slow. We weren't in any hurry so it wasn't bad, and they were friendly too. I was especially pleased that my order of "water, no lemon" actually came that way because most waitresses seem to tune out anything they hear after the word "water." The restaurant is now serving breakfast too from 8-11 on Saturdays and Sundays, and they also have live music on Friday and Saturday nights (see website for schedule). Terrible. 5 ordered dinner...4 got their dinners, mine never came. I told the waitress and no apology or remorse at all. No manager visit after I'd asked for one either. Wait in line for any of the other restaurants and skip this one. A must miss. The other 4 people were very disappointed with their limp salads and greasy sides. Like most of the restaurants along the Loveland Bike Trail, you come for the location, not the food. It's average and adequate pub food. My favorites on the menu are the veggie burger and sweet potato fries. The mahi mahi is a nice piece of fish although it can be undercooked so be sure to ask them to cook it medium but not dry if that matters to you. The nachos are meh and so are the pretzels bites. Salads are a bit soggy and ordinary. Wine list is your typical list at the local pub which is fine as it's not really what they do. My husband likes the beer offerings with a nice mix of IPAs and the regulars. Staff is friendly and capable. They create a homey and welcoming feel. The patio is most always full although I like it less now that they've put TVs out there although my guess is most of the suburban sports crowd is happy to watch a game outside. (They did have FOX News on inside the bar one time and seeing Bill O'Reilly's irritated and angry face while eating my dinner did not help with digestion, but that's fortunately not been the norm). I recommend it if your looking for a Cheers in the neighborhood where you get a nice cold beer, a hot sandwich, fries and a friendly server. read more

My husband and I went here a few days ago when visiting Plaid Room Records across the street. We had our dog with us and were so happy to be able to take my dog onto the patio with us. We sat on the patio and our waitress brought a bowl of ice water for the dog with our drinks - without us asking - so nice! I ordered a cheeseburger and waffle fries and my husband ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with waffle fries. Both were SOO Good. The waffle fries were a must-try from a friend's rec and they were dead on. So so good. Our bill was cheap for the amount of food we got and the service was great. First of all, I've lived in Cincinnati for half my life and am embarrassed to admit that my visit to Paxton's was during my first trip to downtown Loveland. Gosh, that part of town is so stinkin' cute! Between the bike path and the adorable shops and bars, it makes me wish I still lived in the 'burbs -- and that's saying something! Now, onto Paxton's. It's pretty much what you'd expect of a neighborhood sports bar -- dim lighting, high and low top tables, flatscreens everywhere, etc. Although, I thought the food was a step up from the average bar food. We all pretty much had something from every part of the menu (I had the buffalo chicken tenders app) and I'm pretty sure we licked each plate clean. If you're into bloody marys (I'm not), I hear their's are some of the best in the city! I definitely wouldn't mind venturing back to Paxton's -- this time it won't be another 15 years before I make it back to Loveland! read more

Nice patio, right across a driveway from the Little Miami River Trail, aka "the Loveland bike trail." On a warm summer evening, on train bound for nowhere (the tracks are gone; that's the bike trail), I met up with some family and found I was hungry and confused. They both said, for a bite of your quesadilla, I'll give you some advice... They did and we all rather enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, the service and the evening as a whole. This was my second time visiting Paxton's (the first was in February) and I actually got the exact same thing: a Buffalo chicken wrap. It was very good, asked for some extra hot sauce and soaked in the heat of my sandwich and the evening itself. Across the way, at Julian's, a man sang a variety of songs - John Denver and James Taylor, I heard mostly - on their open-air patio. Afterward, we walked over and said hello to the signer, who was taking a break. Nice side entertainment for our dinner. An issue with a smoldering fire in a cigarette butt container tainted the evening a bit, with a horrible stench of burning plastic permeating the air around our table. The manager quickly had it addressed, but the smell lingered for 75 percent of our dinner, giving two of the three of us headaches. Not exactly managements' fault, but an annoyance and could have been better handled by simply removing the container to another part of the property. That's pretty much the only reason Paxton's isn't receiving a straight five-star rating in this review. read more

Tasty food in a very casual setting along side the Loveland Bike Trail in old Loveland. This is one of those little diner-dives-and-drive-in types of places where you can tell that there is somebody in the kitchen who knows what they are doing. The Apps are first rate... try the pretzel bites and Cueso... or the stuffed potato skins (done perfectly, by the way). The burgers are tops. Do you love Goetta? (if your not a Cincinnatian - ask around and somebody will explain it to you!) They do a nice Goetta sandwich served open face on this delicious, chewy rye bread with swiss and just the few grilled onions. We've been there 3 times this year - and the service is speedy, polite, cheerful and responsive. I know a lot of people who love this place. I've been there a few times, and I'm just not a huge fan. The food has never been great. The service was nothing to write home about, and...as for the atmosphere...I get if you're sitting out on the patio in downtown Loveland and are taking in the people and sights while you eat, but if you're sitting inside...meh. (And yes, I realize that was one LONG run-on sentence) I'm not going to blast the place, because it's not bad. It's just doesn't stand out to me like other places in the area. Great local Loveland place to eat! Nice atmosphere but too small for the amount of business they have. They have great beer on tap and they are always changing it up too! My family and I usually order they same things every time we go there. I order the tuna salad wrap with waffle fries, my mom orders the grouper sandwich with waffle fries, my dad orders the club sandwich with waffle fries and my sister orders the mac and cheese with waffle fries. The items on the menu are a little pricey though. Our favorite waitress is Kristen she is so great! They definitely need to expand the restaurant though. read more

5 Stars ! At this point I have to flip a coin to determine my favorite restaurant in the amazing lil city of Loveland. As much as I love The Works I equally love Paxton's. I have now been twice and both experience was way above par. Fridays they have half price apps during happy hour so you can pig out on amazing apps and drink amazing microbrews from their extensive beer selection. This is becoming my favorite Loveland restaurant. It is a a little cramped but the addition of outside, covered seating has really helped getting a table or seat without a crazy wait. I have eaten here now almost a dozen times in the last 3-4 months. Service has been good to great all but one time. Food is good to great depending on what you like. From the appetizer menu I highly recommend the quesadilla (large, meaty,cheesey) the loaded fries (a full meal by itself), the pretzels, and if you like mushrooms the Hungarian mushroom soup. The wings, pickles, and nachos are good as well. Chili was the only mediocre appetizer I had but that might have to do with the one time the service was off as it was cold, and the waitress (who I have not seen again) was put off I wanted it hot, and 10 minutes later it came back lukewarm. Of the sandwiches their featured burger is huge and very good. I was surprised how good the Mahi and cod sandwiches were. The waffle fries are the best side in my opinion. The chicken sandwiches are also very good. The only disappointment has been the goetta sandwich - I really like goetta but it is overwhelmed by too much cheese and onion toppings and served on huge slices of rye (poor meat to bread ratio). The happy hour deals are really good - now planning our "Bike to a Beverage" rides around this. Staff is friendly and more than a few times the owner (Ralph) has stopped by the table to check on us.
