Paya Thai Curry is a hidden treasure in Venice. We eat Thai food everywhere we go and we've never had better than Paya Thai's. It is a small, family run restaurant, so reservations are recommended during busy season. They have an extensive menu and the family is very friendly and accommodating. My wife and I have very different tastes and this is one place that we both love. Their soft shell crab dinner is my favorite, as well as the shrimp tempura appetizer. Solid four stars and only iffy on giving five because we didn't dine in, but instead ordered online for pick up. However now that I have one order under my belt I would love to go dine in sometime - the food was EXCELLENT! I ordered the green curry with pork, medium spice. I was really impressed by the amount of vegetables and meat included in the dish. The green beans, green peppers, bamboo shoots, and snow peas were all really fresh tasting and the pork was tender and plentiful! The medium spice level was perfect for me. It had a good kick but I could manage the whole dish without feeling like I needed a beverage to cool the mouth down. I do have to say though a little more rice would have been nice. I super appreciated the online ordering system because it was easy to use, easy to understand your options, and there was a spot to select Gluten Free. I do hope that what I received was truly gluten free. I'm eager to come back and try this place again, as I do think it may be better than other local Thai places....I'll come back and update the review once I do! read more

We had dinner at the new location of Papaya Thai last night! Barbara had the pineapple curry with chicken. She noted that the portion size was huge and the curry was so flavorful. Melissa had the pumpkin curry with chicken. The pumpkin was cooked just right ( not mushy) and vegetables were cooked to perfection. We shared a chefs sepcial- crab fried rice . It was full of white lump crab and the flavor profile was sow demential. Casual dining but all tables completely full at 5:00pm. The location has changed since the original location was damaged by the Hurricane. Now located next to the Kia Dealership in the Venice Isles Plaza. Dad snd son were both in the kitchen last night! I was in Bradenton for a lacrosse tournament and stayed in Nokomis. We googled local venues and Paya Thai showed up. Let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! I like seafood and my daughter doesn't and there were many choices for us both. We started with the spring rolls with chicken. The basil inside gave great flavor! She had chicken pad Thai and I had green curry with shrimp. Her pad Thai was a large portion and had great flavor. My curry came and had a few shrimp in it. I was a little sad, but kept eating. The joke was on me, because under the abundant veggies were a whole mess of shrimp! The broth was piping hot and the Thai heat (medium) was on point. I ate the whole dang bowl since we had no fridge for leftovers. The service was great and we were attended to nicely. I'd go back if I was in the area again! read more

The food was excellent. I had Chicken Massaman and my wife had Panang Chicken. One of the things we both noticed was the lack of overwhelming garlic. Lots of places use garlic to mask cheap ingredients. Not these guys. Service is fine BUT and this is a big but, it's a mom and pop restaurant so that's the service you get. Food takes a while to come out and the two staff on the floor are running around like crazy. So go. You'll enjoy the food. read more

Absolutely everything I've tried there is delicious! The service is very attentive and unpretentious. Love it! It feels like being home. A great place to have conversation and enjoy a quiet atmosphere. Sometimes we end talking with other patrons. The Golden Sacks are a gift to the sight and the palate. Outstanding Thai food. Very flavorful. Spiced as you like it. My wife loved the curry. I loved the Pad Thai. They had great Pino Noir wine at half price per bottle. And the coconut ice cream was a delicious finish. Prices were reasonable too. This was the first time we've eaten here but will be back for sure. Come early. We enjoyed it. We made reservations via Yelp. When we arrived, they were very busy (between 5 and 7 pm). We waiting about 15 minutes which we felt wasn't bad as we were also early. It didn't appear that they actively use the Yelp system as they asked if we had reservations, we said yes, they looked up nothing and seated us. Odd, but worked for us. They had one person taking order for all the tables - maybe 12 in total. But she really hustled and was very pleasant. We ordered an appetizer and entrees. It took quite a while for the food to arrive but it was worth it. That said, the appetizer never arrived. We were okay with that and they promptly removed it from our bill. For dinner, I had the Drunken Noodles with Beef. I really enjoyed it She had the Pad Thai with Tofu. While not the best she's ever had, it was good. If I was in the area and looking for Thai food, I might look around but would not be disappointed to try Paya Thai Curry again. read more

We came here for dinner on Sunday night with our doggy. They have a couple of tables for outside seating. We are vegan and found plenty of options. We ordered the veggie spring rolls, which were fresh and crisp! Papaya salad that was seasoned perfectly and oh so refreshing. We also ordered a red curry with tofu and broccoli/tofu with peanut sauce. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh! Our server was a sweet lady named Ana and she was very attentive and helpful. The sketchy looking exterior does NOT match the amazing friendliness of the staff inside and the delish food too! Despite us walking in 25min before closing, they greeted us exuberantly and assured us that it was totally fine to come in and have a seat. Their Thai tea was spot on. It was soo good (not overly sugary as some Thai teas can be) I gulped 3/4 of it down before I slowed my roll to continue enjoying it during the meal. They brought us adorable samples of the Thai coffee since neither of us had tried one before. It was similar to a Starbucks in sugar content, like you were enjoying dessert before the meal. The spring rolls were just as you'd want them to be--standard fillings, crunchy, not overly greasy. The steamed dumplings were open on top which, seeing the interior of the dumpling, made them slightly unappetizing...but they were pretty, topped with miniature shrimps. The fresh rolls were chopped into bite size pieces which I'd never experienced in that manner before but made it so much easier to eat! I do rec the dipping sauce that came with the spring rolls vs the soy based sauce they served the fresh rolls with. And the red curry with tofu was perfectly flavored and portion sized. Will return here just to support such a delightful 5 family, 5 service, and their fledgling business. read more

We put in our to go order over an hour before we got there to be ready on time when we were on our way home from the beach. We don't live in nokomis but it is on our way home. We waited at least a half hour for our food. So about 1.5 hours to prepare the food to go? Whatever, we are not that impatient. There was someone behind my husband going off on the staff about his order (that wasn't prepared in 15 minutes. He was told 15 minutes for his food and it wasn't ready.) We didn't complain at all. My husband patiently waited inside. I waited in the car. We got soups, salad and rice for our family of 4. We found worms in our Tom yum soup. I didn't eat mine after my husband found the worms at the bottom of his. I threw mine out. One son didn't eat his rice. One son did. My husband ate his entire meal before finding worms. Needless to say, my husband and the one son were extremely Ill after eating the food. My husband vomited all night long and it came out the other end violently the next day too. We didn't call or complain because we will never eat there again and don't want a credit for future dining. I've never seen worms in my food before. So freaking Gross. I can't help but wonder if this was intentional and meant to go to the man freaking out on the staff behind my husband. Awful experience. read more

Okay, we ate here and the food was decent, but mentally I couldn't enjoy it, because I kept thinking how dirty the place was. I didn't want to imagine the condition of the kitchen. There was a terrible odor at the entry , the bathrooms had mechanical issues, but the doors, walls, cushions, etc. needed a scrubbing. I saw the waitress spray a table to clean it, so that made me feel a little better. The glasses, flatware, and plates looked clean. We didn't get sick, so that's a bonus.
