If you happen to be in Pacific Beach and an Eagles are playing - stop on in for a taste of South Philly love! We had a fantastic time watching Monday night game while visiting the area. The owner is a south Philly native. Even though it got pretty busy he was fantastic serving up our drinks of pitchers of beer. The bar itself doesn't serve food but they did have someone selling some tacos (that were really good) in the same space. Pretty small bar/club but it can get fun on a weekend night. Some of my friends DJ here so they're really generous about having local DJs who are starting out and giving them a chance to play. The cover charge is usually cheaper compared to other bars and clubs in the area. Some nights when it's still early in the night (before 10pm) I haven't had to pay anything, and the most I've had to pay was $10 on a super packed weekend night. You definitely have to be into house music though to enjoy it here, they only play strictly house. It's pretty dark inside and gets a little foggy sometimes because of all the effects so it's a fun atmosphere. read more

Went to avenue last night (Friday) with friends for the first time. The venue was dope and the music was lit all night. But the one tattooed girl bartender working was so incredibly rude. Not just to me but after waiting for a minute and observing her serve everyone at the bar. She looked miserable and was blatantly mean. Not just once or twice but it seemed like every interaction with my friends and everyone around us. Overall I would go again, we all still had a fucking blast and really recommend. I am not fan at all. I was in the area for Spring Break and was looking for some fun places to see. Upon being told about PB Avenue, we thought we would try it out. Immediately we were pushed by a security guard and were told to stay in line. I would not have mentioned this if we were out of line, but we were well within the ropes they had put up. For some reason that had the desire to make an already packed line more cramped. Terrible service from the security and staff. Also charged a $20 cover fee although upon entry there were maybe 15-20 people inside. They need to learn how to not use fog machines because I just remember barely being able to breathe because of how hot, musty, and foggy it was in there. Atrocious atmosphere and incredibly rude staff. Would never return here. Best to take your money elsewhere. read more

We came at around 5pm on a Saturday and there were only a couple of people there. We sat right at the bar and the bartender told us about their happy hour deals which include $3 liquor and drafts (they call them U-CALL-IT). This basically includes all the basic hard liquor and some draft beers. You can either take it as a shot, on the rocks (but still served in a shot glass) or with a mixer. They also have specialty mules and drinks for $5 from open to 10pm everyday. I wanted to try something different so I started with the bird dog peach, which I REALLY liked! It is what it sounds like: peach whiskey. The sweetness balanced out the strength of the whiskey which made for a really good tasting drink. I also really liked the southern comfort and the grand marnier raspberry peach. I really liked the atmosphere when I went. It was quiet and the bartender was just doing her thing and not very hands-on in terms of talking to us unless we needed something (can be a good or bad thing depending). With the drinks only being $3, I wanted to take advantage and I encourage everyone to do so as well. We liked it so much that we came back at night but it was a packed house so it was harder to get the bartender's attention. If I were to come back, I'd come back during the day while it's not as busy and more peaceful. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. Truly the worst bar I've ever been to. I went there with some friends and someone shoved one of my friends and threw a drink on me. We ran out of the back emergency exit & 2 girls came out yelling at us that we can't go out that way.. then I asked the tall, African American with an Afro to please lead us out of the bar since we felt so uncomfortable. He was very condensing and said "you guys can go out the same way you came in." His whole job is to make sure people feel safe in this bar and he did the opposite. I will NEVER be back. read more

I have hyper-mobility syndrome and the bouncer made assumptions and denied my group before we even approached because he saw me trying to stretch. Extremely ableist staff. PB Avenue is a solid 3 stars on my part, which I will get into on as why I'm giving it a 3. An Eagles nest here in Pacific Beach! The chants of "Fly Eagles Fly" can be heard from the streets. Philly has taken over with the bleeding green on goers sporting Eagles jerseys from the past to the present. Myself included. The best part is if an idiot comes in wearing an opponents jersey, they will get harassed. I do my best to chip in and show the proper hospitality he or she deserves. Tonya along with the rest of these guys are great bartenders who try to accommodate everyone when this place is blowing up. PB has flat screens hanging around so the game will never be missed. They do make cheesesteaks on Sunday only during the Eagles game. Its not the greatest, it is over cooked and nothing but a salted up cheesy mess on a roll. Of course you wouldn't know this because you've got a good buzz on at 11 am where you might think this is the greatest thing ever. The food is where you need to improve in, hence the 3 stars. Add a kitchen, put a little something on the menu that will have people come back. I mean if you like watching people leave to go grab food , then pray they come back . If that is the case , please don't pay attention to this. You realize Pacific Beach has plenty of establishments that have a kitchen , with a pretty damn good product. You have all this working for you, great bar, and atmosphere and then you don't serve anything. The potential is there to make this an even better spot to come to if you had a kitchen. And as soon as we asked what the problem was they became extremely defensive, started mocking us, and making gestures and faces at us. Happy hour: 5-8pm Happy hour specials: different nightly specials but there's a $3 "U call it special" 7 days a week which is a select list of liquors and beers for $3 a pop. We came here twice in one night because why the hell not? The first time we stopped by was 5PM and there were only a few people. It was nice because we got some one on one time with each other as well as the bartender. She gave us good suggestions and was very friendly. The second time we came by it was around 10/11 and it was pretty poppin' but we weren't ignored by the bartender unlike some places. Apparently me not knowing my zodiac sign is grounds for my ID is fake since CA drivers license is now produced slightly different than the older ones. Security guard was going to keep my ID cause he thought it was fake. I understand not taking chances but I don't understand how me not knowing my zodiac sign makes me guilty of not being 21 even though I am 21. I had to go to a different security guard and get help from others to prove that my drivers is in fact a real one. I already was checked by a different security guard as well who said my ID was ok. So the fact that I had to prove my ID was real after already being inside is ridiculous. I've been wanting to come here for awhile, because it always seems poppin, but by the time I get here, they're usually about to close. Anywho, randomly came here one saturday evening maybe around 7pm or so. It actually was very dead inside. I'd assume it probably does not get crowded until later in the night probably around 9pm or later unfortunately. I can say that it seems pretty spacious for what is is. A few big round booths along the walls adjacent from the long bar, with bar seating. Open spaced pathway in between, and a dance floor in the back. I want to say it's a club, but think a scaled-down version of an usual club and that's probably what this place is exactly. WORST experience EVER!!!! bouncers are on the BIGGEST power trip! they let me in no problem without even checking my ID clearly showing their favoritism towards women because once my boyfriend tried to get in, they told him his REAL ID was fake. my other female friends got in with no problems as well...apparently they are fine with letting anyone in so long as you are female. I would assume they let underage girls in all the time since they don't check at all. my bf even tried to show them proof that his ID was real with other identification, but they also said that was fake too and took pictures of his ID, threatening to ban him from all bars in PB. again, his REAL ID, just because they've clearly never seen an out-of-state ID. my bf has never had a problem getting into any bars before this one- I just can't believe it. the bouncers then began mocking us, making faces and cruel gestures claiming that we were on drugs and making fun of our personal belongings for absolutely NO reason. these men clearly couldn't find any other job where they could exert power, so they chose to work at a bar?? around people 24/7??...management should rethink their choices in who they hire because these men had absolutely no personable skills at all. these men should ALL be fired. I would have given this place more than one star rating if the following didn't happen. I bought bottle service a year ago (before I left to travel) so that my friends could have some drinks on my tab even though I wasn't drinking that night. Only to have someone unknown to me move into my section. Asked the staff to have him removed, because he was "known" by the staff they refused to help. So I took my business elsewhere as they didn't seem to care. So I took a second to leave a negative review on Yelp. A year later after returning from traveling I decided to give them another chance. The "lovely" (partial owner "his bar") bartender calls me out on my first review in front of my friends and tried to make me feel bad for the review as if something owed to him. Needless to say the service was horrible the first time and now upon my return and second chance ... again horrible with a dash of condescending A-Hole sprinkled on top of it all. Don't waste your time or energy here. Simply read the rest of the reviews and see for yourself how others are treated. read more
