My friends and I stopped by Sunshine Company because we heard they had a rooftop, and since we were already in the Ocean Beach area, we were excited to check it out. We arrived around 10 PM for some fun drinks and a chill night out. Getting in was super easy, just a couple of people ahead of us, and the line moved quickly. The downstairs area has seating, and there's also a patio on the left side, but the main attraction is definitely the rooftop. I loved the vibe up there. There's a full bar, tons of seating, and plenty of space to hang out. You can drink, smoke, and just relax, overall, the rooftop had such a great energy. We didn't end up getting drinks here, but they had a lot of options, and the prices weren't too expensive. What I really loved was how spacious everything felt. Even on a Saturday night, it wasn't overly packed, which made it even better. The rooftop and the large patio gave it a really open, fun atmosphere. Overall, it's a great spot, especially if you're looking for a laid-back rooftop experience in OB. read more

There's no parking directly outside of this bar but it's walking distance from the street parking available. Cool drink menu with $10 drinks and indoor/outdoor bar seating with an open ceiling which is pretty cool. There's also a rooftop area! I ordered the Watermelon margarita and enjoyed it while my sister order the Captain Smash and enjoyed it. I just wish the drinks were a little bigger than the tiny glasses filled with mostly ice. We decided to drop in a get some $1 jello shot. I guess we're old but these things were so small, 1oz to be exact with maybe a drop of alcohol? Like a Jell-O shot you squeeze the cup and only half comes out. I remember jell-O use to be more like a 4oz cup. We came on a Sunday with different games going on including nfl. The cranky blonde bartender had a massive attitude. Friend orders a Tito soda but said vodka Tito soda and that somehow threw her off her game. I asked what beers they had on tap, " we have like a ton on tap" and just laughs . I literally couldn't see all the taps so I was wanting a beer list, didn't seem like they had one or that their bartender wasn't smart enough to offer one. I literally told her I couldn't see and she just laughs. The ambiance reminds me of some really dirty version of some college bars back south where I'm from but the people were super judgey including white people with dredd locks. On 1/31/26, while upstairs, my friends and I were minding our own business and having a good time, not bothering anyone. Out of nowhere, an employee named Natalie (brunette hair, glasses) from the upstairs bar aggressively pushed through us with a large water jug, yelling "MOVE" in a very rude and obnoxious tone. I calmly said that she could have just said "excuse me" nicely. Her response was simply, "I WORK HERE," again in a rude manner while she was yelling. She never apologized or even acknowledged that she spilled my friend's drink while pushing past us. I completely understand if she was struggling to carry the water jug, but that's no excuse to be disrespectful especially to customers who did nothing wrong. A simple "excuse me" would have gone a long way. Because of this interaction, several people around us didn't want to order from her afterward. Customer service matters, and I hope management considers hiring and training staff to be more respectful, because experiences like this really take away from the bar itself. read more

The drinks here were pretty well priced and very delicious! We read reviews before coming here saying that the bouncers sometimes checked the id's to "scare" people. We felt nothing like that and the two people who I was with had verticals and no questions asked. It dodged take a while to order only because it was busy and seemed they had only one bartender. She was super sweet and made sure we were accommodated for and let us know what specials were happening or recommendations. We ended up doing simple college drinks, AMF, sex on the beach, things of that nature. Definitely a place where adults come and hang in the weekends to play, drink and relax. Love this bar, been coming here since I turned 21 and I just brought my brother here for his 21st. This place is what you get. Perfect grungy bar in OB. 4 pool tables, games, and a juke box. Yeah there might be homeless out front and maybe a few sketch people but this place is nothing but good vibes. They have good beer and a taco shop attached if you're hungry. A guy I was seeing during the end of Summer wanted me to meet him here since he was working in the area. Parking was a pain in the ass but I eventually got in without a problem and only stood long enough to watch him play a round of pool while I threw back two vodka sodas. In the 45 minutes I was there, here's how my experience went: - My bartender was a female and the interaction was respectfully transactional, check. - My drinks were poured to standard and were decently cheap, another check. - I stood on the bottom floor beneath the open air portion of the building where I could feel the sun. Everything appeared clean in this area. No trash strewn around or anything out of place, check. From what the bar had to offer, I have no complaints. My consensus on this area is that you need to look and act like you sleep at the beach in order to comfortably blend in. If you shampoo your hair, smell fresh, or enter wearing branded clothes afforded by the middle class and higher... you're probably going to attract negative attention unless you look like Guile from Street Fighter or someone who can annihilate an army of Shaggys from Scooby Doo. Thankfully I looked innocuous with my faded black hoodie and avoidant gaze otherwise most debutantes get harassed, insulted, or mocked here from what I've witnessed. I did attract a few creepy stares but once it was obvious that I wasn't here unmanned, I was in a protective halo. This phenomenon isn't necessarily a reflection of the staff at this bar but more so of the demographic of its locals. Even though nothing happened, it's the perception and the vibe that really started to make me uncomfortable. In my experience with dive bars, there are those that have that warm glow of a boozy hobbit hole where random walk-ins are welcome to fist bump with newly made comrades. On the other hand, some accidentally tread upon the "locals only" dens not knowing that it's patrolled by a clandestine bunch of hooligans willing to tweak their definition of vigilance. Been at the Sunshine Saloon many times, last time was a couple of weeks ago for a wedding post-celebration and we were staying in the top floor and that felt so cold. The service has alwasy been great and I really like the way the establishment is decorated, the painted walls make me always feel like I am on vacation. However, there is something that I don't know how to explain but somehow is not my favorite place. Maybe is that disconnect between separate ambiances, between people playing pool, others attached to the bar, other really there to grab some food...difficult to blend and meet other people unless you go with your own. read more

Came to Sunshine for some after work pool. While waiting to get in, the person in front of me had a fake ID and the tall white bearded security guard promptly took it and told that person to leave. He then turned to me and denied me entry for "trying to bring a minor in my bar". I tried explaining that I did not know the individual and I was clearly 21 years old but he persisted. But the energy cannot be denied, especially on a Friday night, and it was nice to feel like the world was back to normal again. Wonderful place, extremely welcoming and caring staff. People here are very friendly and happy to take care of you. I love the music they play, its never boring. Good variety of games and pool tables at your disposal, and the set up very handy. It has the inside, outside and an upper level deck, so you dont have to step out to smoke or take a call. Quick service and very reasonably priced. The bar is huge and extends outside, so drink orders are a breeze. Warning: if you start acting stupid and cause an issue with another patron, this place has cameras. I am a regular guest at this bar and always loved it. However I recently visited with a new friend whom is from Turkey and we've been to a few bars before so I had no idea that his id was fake, like how would I know he's lying I'm not a cop and I didn't scan his id lol. Basically the GM came out and told him he wasn't allowed to come back ever (of course). I stood there and was respectful. However when I later returned alone to meet a friend he said I wasn't allowed anymore to any location either. For being affiliated with this person. Which (without speaking in a discriminatory way) felt discriminatory. There was no reason to deny me as well. So there was some judgment there which was so uncalled for. I loved this place and go often but my friends and I stopped by for our first drink for my friend's bachelorette party and had a great time then left to another bar and came back and they refused to serve us. The bartender informed us that the manger said not to serve the ladies in the pink hats (us) if we came back. We were nothing but polite and were so excited to come back. It ruined our night. We have been coming here as a group since we turned 21. This is a frequent beloved hangout spot where we have celebrated a lot of monumental life milestones. This bar is becoming one of my favorite spots. They have a large open indoor area that you can smoke in since the roof is opened and it's a patio style. This means not having to leave your drink while walking away and yet it's not a smokey area. They have multiple tv's on the other side of the bar, and any bar that plays hockey is good in my book. There's a pac man machine that can play up to 4 players and that is a TREAT!!! My boyfriend and I loved playing that and the shooting video game. They actually have a few and a pinball machine. When tired of playing video there's 4 pool tables to keep the competitive spirit going. Drinks are very reasonably priced and made well & they have a good pitcher deal for happy hour. Go anywhere but here! I have never in my life felt as uncomfortable, unwelcome, judged, and overall just harassed. The service and the men working there were very unprofessional and honestly just rude/creepy. It's a very strange atmosphere. To start, we went straight to the bar and started chatting with one of the bartenders, it then turns to him proceeding to flirt with my friend which was light hearted at first but at a point she politely tried to turn him down and he was not having it. He told her "he liked smaller girls anyways" and another comment i don't care to repeat. Her drink also obviously had no alcohol when he eventually served us the drinks we ordered. We eventually decide to ask for the owner to tell about our experience, we went up to an employee we assumed was a bouncer/another bartender. He rudely told us he was the owner and once we told him the situation he did not believe what we told him, he asked us to bring him to the bartender in question and we said we were uncomfortable going back/confronting him. The owner then told us we could just "leave and not come back". I was literally dumbfounded and still am. Not a welcome place at all. And besides the service the place just has a bad vibe/crowd. There's so many other fun welcoming bar/restaurants in the area to visit. read more
