We went to the fair during the last weekend and met up with a couple friends. I did some research beforehand, to see what the best foods were just because I didn't want to waste money and be disappointed on food items. I'm glad I did that because most of the food items I got from the recommendations I saw online, I enjoyed. We got hot dog on a stick (classic), pickle lemonade, chicken kebab, cinnamon roll, lobster fries... now I'm going to say hot dog on a stick was the best. Maybe I'm biased, lol. But, I do have to say, I didn't eat anything that made me say I would love to get it again next year. I knocked down one star because it is expensive. Be prepared to spend lots of money! Admission price is I believe $15 per person? I can't remember. Parking was $15. Each food/drink item ranges from maybe $10-$30. If you want to ride any rides and play any games, that is additional money as well. There are also vendors inside selling stuff. So, just make sure you come prepared to spend a lot but I feel like that is expected when you go to the fair. However, my friends and I made the most of it! So, we had a great time. There are lots of indoor exhibits as well that has AC, so you can take a break from the extreme heat. If you haven't checked out the state fair, I would recommend to check it out at least once. I was so excited to go on my day off and a HUGE THANK YOU to Aileen & her hubby for inviting me and my plus 1! We arrived separately from Aileen & her hubby. Parking was $15 for this event and we found a spot quickly and not too far away. When we arrived close to 4, there was not a long line to get through getting checked in. Thanks again to Aileen for giving me a heads up about what kind of bag I was allowed to carry, I showed up with a clear backpack and the strip search was a breeze... just kidding, lol, but the bag search only took seconds. As we walked in, our picture was taken and we were handed a ticket to check out our picture on the way out. We headed straight for food. The prices were a little scary... finding the least price corn dog being $7. My friend went with that while I searched for something exciting... long story short, I ended up with a corn dog as well, lol. We ventured into the beer garden and the wine garden. The blackberry slushi really hit the spot. It was a little sweet, you would almost never know there was wine in it. While the sun was beating down on us, heating up that black pavement, we appreciate the shades above, as well as some of the cool zones where giant fans were available to provide some relief. Those small tent areas were always packed when we walked by. Finally, we decided to go inside the buildings and found the air conditioning was the place to be. It was nice checking out the vendors. I bought some tasty beef jerky... a small pack for $10. I tried some pretty good salsa, too. This is where we found the cinnamon rolls. There were cool combinations like the cinnamon bacon bomb, the biscotti cinnamon roll... we decided to try the tres leeches roll. Service was fast and we happen to get a cinnamon roll fresh out of the oven where the cinnamon and sugar were still bubbling. What a tasty treat ($16). Feeling how overwhelming the heat was, we were very hesitant to go outside, but I was really looking forward to checking out the lowriders exhibit... I'm not sure if there are words to describe the beauty of the hard work they've put into perfection. Where can I see more of these? The Lowrider exhibit took my breath away. Next, I was excited to see there was an Egyptian exhibit for King Tutankhamun... King Tut Experience. We got to see replicas of the most iconic treasures, golden shrines, thrones, jewelry, ceremonial beds, his state chariot, and more. It was interesting me was laid to rest with 93 pairs of sandals to take with him into his next life. There was reading material available with each artifact. There was reading for Nefertiti, Anubis, and even Howard Carter; who carefully excavated King Tuts tomb in 1922... I am fascinated by ancient Egypt and the secrets they still hold... this history lesson was beautiful... Tina Marie was the hypnotist on stage a few times throughout the day. She was very entertaining... as well as her special guests who volunteered to be hypnotized. Bravo to all of them!!! Aileen and I met up again halfway during Tina Marie's show and high tailed it over to the Sky River Stage where we would be enjoying some of the best songs of the 70's and 80's by Yaht Rock Revenue. They were soooo goooood!!! They were singing songs I listened to as a kid with my parents.. we were surrounded by some of the best people singing and rocking out.. I had an amazing time with Aileen!!! In the end, I had to chevk out the rides. I didn't get on, but I loved watching other people ride and I laughed as they screamed with joy and fear, lol.. I wish they would've made it easier to find the water stations, but other than that, we had a fantastic time!!

This was my first time visiting the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center, and it made for such…read morea memorable experience. I finally got to see The Lion King for the very first time, something I've wanted to experience for many years, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I went solo and honestly loved the experience. I purposely chose an aisle seat so I could watch the performers move up and down the aisles, and I'm so glad I did. It made the show feel even more immersive and special, especially during those moments when the cast comes through the audience. The venue itself is beautiful and easy to navigate. From entering the building to finding my seat, everything felt organized and smooth. The seating was comfortable, the sightlines were great, and the sound quality was excellent, which really matters for a production like this. As for The Lion King, it was amazing. The costumes, music, and staging were stunning, and seeing it live after wanting to for so long made it even more meaningful. Overall, such a great first experience at this venue. I would absolutely come back to see another performance here, and I'm so glad this is where I finally got to see a show that had been on my list for years

A tiny breeze flowed through providing the merest relief from the sweltering weather. Picked up today's freebies: a buildable Tower Bridge, an ice cream bar and a Spiderman comic book. Next, got ice and water to survive the heat. Tigers were ahead 4-0 at the top of the 6th inning. That's as long as we could bear the heat It was a fun time. This is…read moredefinitely an event worth checking out and just another reason why living in Sacramento is so enjoyable. I had a good time at Oak Park Gather, but there's room for improvement. Entrance is free, IDs are checked, and wristbands supplied. Cash and cards are used to buy drink tokens (beers $6, cocktails $7). I liked how there were multiple tables doing this to make entering a smooth process. Surprisingly, "The Bar" line moved quickly, especially considering how many beer and cocktail selections they offered. The Bar staff should be commended for an effective system that kept that line moving. They really should consider moving the placement of the setup though. This huge line was formed right in front of the speakers of the stage, making it difficult to have a conversation, and causing a traffic jam for those moving to and from the food truck area. The crowd was really big by 6pm. And massive by 7. I love dog friendly events, but this was much too big of a crowd for the pups, who mostly looked stressed from being constantly run into by strangers who have their eyes on food and aren't looking down. The fleet of baby strollers that swarmed the area was ridiculous. This is an alley after all, not Land Park. It would have been much easier to navigate around the crowd if those were removed. I wasn't sure what to make of the lounge setup, other than it seemed like an ineffective use of space given the massive amount of people at this event by 7pm. It would be a huge improvement if there were more seating available for people. In Artisan Alley, for example, there was a huge space that could have been used for that purpose. I was really happy to see The Roaming Spoon and Conscious Creamery offering awesome vegan eats. If they continue to show up then so will I :)

The food bites and the drinks were all as yummy as ever. But at the center of it all, we spent the evening with Kat Robichaud's Misfit Cabaret ("Kat's Misfits") - it was like walking into the stand-alone garage of your grandparents home, and finding your really cool, edgy niece there, using it as a hangout with all her equally cool ecclectic & eccentric dancing & band buddies... .....EXCEPT instead of listening to the sugary-fructrose infested music of today's pop airwaves, these glorious dark talented souls SOMEHOW got their hands on your grandparents' (her GREAT-grandparents') CLASSIC VINYLS from yesteryear: a sad, yet special place & time when people were bullied into escaping a very dark period of Continental Europe, and wistfully saying goodbye to the center of what was a new, sexy, dynamic musical movement that started in Berlin, but thankfully not ending there during the 20th Century's Dark Ages: CABARET. THE SETUP Kat's Misfits are an incredibly creative ensemble of vocalists, musicians, dancers, aerial artists and exqusiite burlesque performers. Check-in was quick and easy -- we showed our online tickets and received wristbands for all three tours. The tours themselves were pretty short, each lasting about 10-15 minutes, so we finished all three in roughly 35 minutes. Overall, it seems more geared toward teenagers. There isn't much for younger children to do. One suggestion would be to have food vendors or a food truck available. Porta potties were onsite, which was convenient. A fun experience, but a little more to explore would make it even better!
