(This is FAR worse than the "gemologist" who tells you the diamond is H-color if you want to SELL it but G-color if you want to BUY it.) Furthermore, my wife attended a PCGS coin fair in Baltimore and submitted three coins for grading. Never mind having received nothing back yet, but they ENDLESSLY pester her with emails and texts and what-not and expect her to PHONE THEM to get her ratings--like they're unable (or can't afford) to mail a professional business letter. Pcgs screwed up my coins after I discontinued my platinum membership. They did not crossover my ms 70 with the correct info devaluing my coin and customer service had 100 excuses as to why. And they didnt slab 1 coin because they said I listed a minimum grade which I didnt and showed them the submission form but they did nothing but take my $... And they ran my dead fathers credit card over and over for my new membership that I had taken WAY TO MUCH TIME WITH THE PCGS REP TO MAKE SURE THE CARD WAS DELETED FROM MY ACCOUNT. I have email confirmation from Luis stating it was removed and I even checked that card was no longer listed on my account but PCGS ran my dead dad's card over 8 times trying to get the charge to go through. PCGS must stand for Pretty Cruddy Grading Service. Really wish I had read these reviews prior to joining their club and making a submission. The time to completion is arbitrary and is solely based on how much you pay them. I'm fairly certain they just sit on your coins if you dont pay the rush premium. They have a status tracker (ala PizzaHut delivery) and the statuses are made up. They will keep your coin in "imaging" for 2 weeks and then not provide any images (even after telling you your images are ready). They will keep your coin in "encapsulation" for a week, even if it's not being encapsulated. I get that they may be trusted based on the quality they've provided in the past, but that quality is long gone. The website description of services does not match what they provide. When you ask customer service about it they play dumb and refuse to answer your questions. I recommend you take your coins to any other coin grader, you'll get a better deal and better service. read more

I have been emailing for help with finding my coin they changed or lost to no avail. .. I have been a PCGS Customer over 5 years. . I sent a 2000D penny, die crack through into the coat which was the main difference to PCGS. At first once they received my coins it was labeled wrong. They had it as a 2019 or 2019 D. I called customer service and explain that the date of my coin was a 2000D not a 2019 anything. The representative said she would have them to look into. I never saw it on my pcgs account that it was corrected until they got ready to ship my coin out. So. I'm thinking everything is OK. I received my coins in the PCGS coin case. I Always take pictures of my coins, especially ones that I have things to explain about that's on my coin. I see this isn't the coin that I sent in. I get on the phone and call customer service. I had to submit pictures of my coin and the coin PCGS sent back. In order to make this story short, customer care representative. Debbie. keeps wanting this image and that image. I send her everything she asks for. Then yesterday, I receive an email stating they can't see any difference in my Pic of the coin and the one PCGS sent me. I'm attaching a picture of my coin that I took and of the coin I received back. I enlarged my coin and took pictures of the die crack part. You can clearly see that these are 2 different coins. I have been a valued PCGS customer and never thought something like this would happen to me. I didn't even use the 4 free vouchers that I received with those coins. Please. Company misled the customer on pricing and only offered a partial credit but has not resolved the bait and switch experience, even after dozens of attempts to get the company to follow through over the past 4 months. Their poor Yelp reviews and their D- minus rating with BBB reflect poor customer service. The tactics the company employed are exposed here for customers to beware: 1. Bait the customer by have multiple representatives indicate the coins are eligible for economy service on their restoration form but then later switch the pricing by overcharging the customer and pointing to a website for terms NOT disclosed on their restoration form. 2. After many months of delay as far as possible , company rep calls the customer and admits to mistakes verbally and promises to call back with remaining information on full amount to be credited to remedy overcharge, but never follows through for over a month , in an apparent attempt to surpass the four month credit card deadline to file a dispute. 3. Stall tactics include having different phone reps provide misinformation on pricing that contradict each other and clearly demonstrate how PCGS keeps pricing a secret even from their own employees who can't seem to get pricing details straight and provide answers to the customer within a reasonable timeframe not exceeding 4 months. 4 . Their practice includes avoiding writing what their rep admitted verbally. So customer must employ PCGS' tactic of recording every conversation with the company since the company won't provide response confirming their verbal admissions in writing. Since this company doesn't seem to care about the negative yelp reviews enough to respond to the reviews, as reflected also in their D- rating with BBB, perhaps enough complaints with the credit card companies and authorities will demonstrate a pattern where they have had questionable practices. read more

Caution: a valuable coin is missing. Important: Be aware of any 1893-S Morgan dollar coin, AU-50 or better, that you come across. It may be stolen property. Note: All of the below acquisitions are only alleged and from my personal observations and point of view. Some of them are quite serious. On April 24, 2024, I sent PCGS a 1893-S Morgan dollar by Registered Mail. I believed that this coin was AU-50 or better. This is a very valuable coin. When my package arrived to PCGS they informed me that they only received a 1887-S Morgan dollar. I believe that my valuable coin was lost or stolen at the PCGS facility and that a lesser coin was substituted in its place. There are several possibilities that could have happened: Number one possibility: The supervision and quality control of their incoming mail was faulty. My coin got mixed up with other incoming coins. The Receiving Specialist was obviously a confused and disorganized person. She sent me email that was meant for a different person describing a problem with their $5 Gold coin. She sent me email referring to submission numbers which were not mine. She made typo errors that she later apologized for. If this is true then maybe my valuable coin is still in their facility, or maybe it got shipped out to a different person? Another possibility: My coin was stolen by an individual in the receiving room and then another coin was substituted for it. This facility may process dozens of coins a day. There was a person in the receiving room, that came to work with an average Morgan dollar in their pocket, that was just waiting for the correct situation to use it. Through slight of hand, at an obscure angle from the cameras, they replaced my valuable coin with their average coin. I have been talking with their investigative people and they disagree with both of the above possibilities. But I do not believe them. I have not seen the movies of the unpacking procedure. I really would like to see them Someone in their facility stole my coin. With normal eyesight it is easy to see the difference between the numbers 1893 and 1887. Three people (including myself) saw me put the correct coin in my package and ship it to PCGS. This coin has been stuck away in my boyhood collection since the 1950's. I really did not know what I had, or even have now, until I have started examining it. My Parents found this coin in Las Vegas when it was still common to use coins in the slot machines. I am now 77 years old and it is a tragedy for this to happen after all these years. Someone with that coin is now a rich person. I sent them a no period Massachusetts copper once cent 1788 and they sent it back without labeling it NO period. Don't know why. It's obviously a no period. UPDATE: Our receipt shows we paid $2,760.00 plus required membership fees to PCGS to have some of our rare U.S. coins graded. We paid in person at a coin show so that we could receive our coins back within 24 hrs. PCGS emailed us that our coins are ready for pickup at the booth. When we returned to the booth, PCGS states our coins were "lost" and to call their customer service line to investigate. We called that customer service line and emailed them several times over the past several days with no one answering or replying to our messages. These coins were our only inheritance and held a great sentimental value. Since PCGS is not responding to our "lost" (likely stolen) coins, we have filed reports with the FTC, BBB, our state attorney general, and will be seeking legal advice. We have detailed photographic evidence of these coins in our possesion prior to them being handed over to PCGS. We should have read the reviews prior to submitting our precious coins as our coins held a more sentimental value to us. How is there no class action lawsuit against this company?? read more

This company has the most needlessly complicated form submission process I have ever seen. Even the IRS makes it easier than PCGS. We had to submit twice, paid both times, and still didn't get what we were asking for. It took months for the first submission to come back, but they did not verify the coin errors we asked for (they only graded it) so I called and spent an hour on the phone with one of their people who walked me through every step of the form to get what we were asking for. I sent it in again, and paid again, only to receive the coin back a couple of months later without the errors verified. The forms were out-of-date as well. Prices had changed, but their current forms still had the old pricing on them. I am at a loss as to how we could have possibly received what we asked for, and paid for. I even wrote a nice note to go along with the second submission, explaining exactly the two errors on the coin, and that we wished to have those verified. This was a pointless and frustrating six-moth process. Someone really needs to help them simplify their forms and modernize their processes. read more

Sent two gold coins to be graded. They received them on 5/3/2022. Mailed back to me on 8/29/2022. Had them in possession for about 118 days. Had 84 working (business days) minus one or two holidays in that span. Was quoted 50 days. Membership grading seems to get thrown a ticket and kicked to the back of the line. And their email excuses that are sent days later say: "you can't rush professional quality". They lost a customer that used them as their one and only grading source. NOT NO MO' !!!! It's been 97 business days, submitted in hand on Feb 6th 2023, and PCGS can't give me any details about my order. My confidence is completely lost with this group. I'm not even sure if I will get my coins returned to me at this point. When I submitted at the coin show, I was told it was a 52 business day wait. The only positive, is that I handed them the coins during the coin show for grading, so I know they have my coins. I would never mail them due to the chance of losing them. I was excited about a year and a half ago when I signed up for the Gold membership. After this though, I still have a grading voucher to use that I will not be using. As soon as I get my coins back, I will be cancelling my membership. When I call, I can't get through, or have to wait to be called back. Then when I do speak with someone they can't give me any dates or time frames until completion. I am very disappointed and my excitement for numismatics has been greatly diminished by my experiences with PCGS. If I was a coin flipper, I'd be steaming. I'm just a collector though without part of my collection. I guess I'm just not important to them since I'm not a coin shop, or because I did not pay for expedited grading services. I sent 2 coins at the Long beach convention show in September 2021, and payd $160.00 up front for service fees....it took PCGS 3 months to return my coins (December 27th) one was an obvious off centered nickel and the other one a 1961 D with an obvious RPM but PCGS returned it as regular after 3 months in their possession. However I took pictures of the coin and it was looked at by experts from Coin-community and they all agree, it was and RPM, rendered as RPM SF50. Today, January 1st, I've noticed a charge on my credit card for $165.00 dollars, how many times must I pay these fees ???....Cant wait for Monday Morning to give them a call and i will be disputing these charges with my credit card company.
